We went on a friday night, were planning on eating in, we did not know that this place is really carry out, not eat in. We saw tables and went in , no greating, tables were dirty and no people. We decided to go to the grocery and call in an order. We got pork lo mein spicy- was ok , was spicy but not lomein noodles, they were cooked ok. Not char siu pork like typical. We slso got crab rangoon, not hot, we reheated. Plenty of filling , lacked green onion. Did not appear to be deep fried. Lastly, we got the pork dumplings. Filling was ok, hardly any seasoning, outside dough was way thick really unedible. Total bill was $25. We were hoping to find decent chinese food in this area, and this was not it. This is the most authentic Cantonese and Szechouan food I've had in the Northern suburbs. It's also the only Chinese restaurant in the County that has dine-in! We ordered potstickers, crab Rangoon chicken fried rice, sesame chicken, orange chicken, House Chow Fun, and happy family. And that was just for me! (just kidding) The potstickers were very large and delicious and so was the crab Rangoon. The chicken dishes were done exceptionally well with juicy chicken and crispy veg. The Chow Fun (rice noodles) were wonderful and perfectly caramelized in the magic stir-fry sauce. The fried rice was excellent, and didn't come eith peas and carrots which, in my opinion, don't belong in fried rice anyway. This is a small mom-and-pop type, establishment. Everyone is friendly, and I would urge everyone who loves Chinese food, to come here and either eat in or carry out. Next time I'm in Illinois, I'm coming back! read more

This place is AMAZING. Fast service, priced well, and tastes great. We ordered takeout and got combination fried rice, beef chow fun, egg drop soup, and pork garlic sauce. We walked in to order and the food was hot and ready 10 minutes later. The portions are large, we barely ate half of the food before we got full! There were good amounts of meat across all our dishes and everything was good - I don't think we could pick a favorite. I'm not sure why the reviews are so bad? This is a great cheap, Chinese takeout place. The food tastes reminiscent of when we went here even 10 years ago. Definitely coming here more often. read more

I placed an order with Red Sun in Lindenhurst using the Beyond Menu app, which I use all the time, when we went to pick up the order it was not there, they never received the order. I paid for it. I called and they said they had a new website, but when using Google the new website did not show up. We drove for 20 minutes in each direction to pick up the order. The restaurant did not offer any apology. Will will not deal with them again. read more

This place can be a hit or a miss. When the hot and sour soup is good, it's some of the best I've ever had. But sometimes its off. Same with the General Tso's chicken, which, incidentally, tastes just like their Orange chicken. Their fried rice and lo meins are pretty consistent. Best to get them to deliver, as they're usually good at getting your order to you in under an hour. read more

I always make fun of those who leave reviews on Yelp. Why? Because usually only people who had a bad experience leave a review. I always said, how could anything be THAT bad to warrant a yelp review. I vowed I would never. Ladies and gents, here I am writing a yelp review. I ordered General Tso chicken which was okay. Nothing crazy. BUT when ordering, I asked if it came with rice, in which she said yes. So I said, can I switch the white rice for fried rice which she agreed. I got my order and was charged for an extra container of rice, so no subbing in for different rice. We also had crab rangoon, which consisted of a few scraps of crab inside, and nothing else. The pork lo mein was brunt and had no flavor. I also said pork and got beef. Lastly the pot stickers are were straight up dough. Save yourself money and don't come here. Why do I keep giving this place more chances? The food is truly marginal. From the Crab Rangoon that doesn't come with sauce to the overcooked and salty general tso's chicken. It's probably because they deliver and I'm lazy. However, tonight after waiting an hour, I called and was informed it would be another 30 minutes. Okay. Again the inside is okay and in need of a paint job but who cares really. Most people carry out food anyway. What really matters is that this place has good food. Their egg rolls are seriously meaty and tasty. Their fried rice has the perfect texture, is not greasy, and is loaded with what ever meat you choose. I just ate left over lunch special of beef and broccoli. A real delight. Their beef is sliced thick and amazingly tender for as thick as it is cut. I've had nasty beef from places like Long Feng that are chewy/nasty. Prices are fair. Service is okay and it appears to be a family owned place which means they have my support as a local business. They have great Singapore noodles too! My only knock is their hours. I wish they opened at 11 am lunch instead of 1130. read more

We used to order take out from here and stopped. Always a wait even when you order, server person seemed to not care at all. Food was inconsistent, some days a little better than ok, Last order we had, we got chicken fried rice and there were two cleaning brush bristles in the rice. (You use the brush to clean the wok, so sometimes they come off, no big deal really), but I let them know about it, and basically they could have cared less. read more

Terrible, terrible business practices. My wife and I had been ordering from this place on a semi-regular basis, always the same menu items, orange chicken & sesame chicken. We recently ordered our usual take out and both of our orders tasted terrible. I was hesitant calling them to tell them of how bad the food tasted and was grateful that they agreed to refund my money. The woman on the phone told me to bring the food back in. I packed the food back in the bag and got it in my car when my phone rang. This is where things got bizarre. It was the woman calling from the restaurant. She started asking a lot of questions and defending the food. She said nothing was wrong with the food -because, get this, no one else called that night to complain. I explained again that my wife and I ordered these items regularly and we know what they normally taste like and something was seriously wrong with how our orders tasted. She asked if we ate any of the food and I said "of course, thats how we know it tastes bad, we each had a couple of bites". She then said she could only give a partial refund because we ate some of the food. I told her fine, I'll bring the food back and she can give us a partial refund. Then she asked if I paid with cash or credit card (why would that matter???) I told her cash, to which she replied without explanation " I can only give you a credit for your next order". If a person doesn't want to give me a refund when they sell me bad food, fine, I'll take my business elsewhere. When a person wants to jerk me around and act like a head case, then the public needs to be warned. read more

Although it has some seating it is somewhat limited and in someways is it almost self serve since the wait staff is concentrating more on the take out orders. The food is good and it comes up quickly. But if your looking for a dine in type of place, Red Sun is not the place to go and you would be better off going to Chop Sticks just down the road. read more

I ordered from Red Sun for the first time this evening. My brother prefers it over Chopsticks (I'm in the early stages of confirming his insanity) I went in and placed an order for delivery around 6 pm on a Friday, which anyone who has worked in food service knows that Friday night is the busiest night of the week in most places. It didn't seem incredibly busy, but there were cooks cooking and a young lady answering phones in the front. I was told that delivery was 45 minutes which seemed pretty reasonable to me. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken and an order of the Chicken in Garlic Sauce. I then went home to set the table and wait for my girlfriend to come home for dinner. The food came right on time, and the driver was professional and courteous. That's as far as I can go in complimenting Red Sun. My girlfriend found a rock in her Kung Pao Chicken and she found it the hard way (pun intended) The rock chipped her tooth. So we called to speak to a manager to discuss a resolution to the issue. We spoke to a manager and presumably one of the owners. She told us that she has no idea what could have been in the Kung Pao Chicken. She offered a refund for the Kung Pao Chicken. At first I declined and told the owner that we would stop in and discuss it further. We stopped in and brought the rock with us. We made a point to pull the owner away from all of her customers waiting to order "food" as a courtesy to her. She acted as if she had no idea what the rock was and tried to explain it as a peanut, and a piece of food at first. She then said she had no idea where the rock came from and denied that it even came from her kitchen. She then offered me the same deal as before, my money back, but I wanted the dental work covered since it was her "food" that caused the damage. She said that if I wanted anything else, I would need a lawyer. She then tried to take the rock from me as if she were going to throw it out. I insisted that she return it which seemed to freak her out a little. She gave me the money back for the Kung Pao Chicken portion in the order, but that's it. Before I left, I offered to let her see the bill after she gets the dental work done. If she changes her mind at that point, that we could settle the matter then. As we were leaving, I noticed that there were a bunch of decorative plants on the counters. Inside the pots for these plants were decorative rocks not unlike the one found in our food. I'm appalled at the lack of professionalism shown at this establishment and I encourage anyone who reads this to take your business elsewhere. read more

No star if I had the option. Christmas Day and I understand staffing has been harsh in the restaurant businesses... this one is not an exception. We placed an order and waited an hour in the car since we noticed it was packed inside, people waiting for their orders. I then decided to go in since my wife had called and stated order is not yet ready they did not provide the time when it'll be. Waited inside and a total of over 2 1/2 hours. Lady said they never got the order that was placed online. I had called the number online and they confirmed the fax order came through a few minutes when our order was received and confirmed receipt. Lady took out a few papers of orders and had asked me to look for my order. I found it and showed her the time order was sent and received, it was placed 2 hrs ago and when they received it. She then asked me if I still want my order, that I've been waiting for and paid for online. Of course i do, I already paid and I've been waiting for 2 hours.... After 2 hours we called again and were told the food was ready to go out the door. Almost 2.5 hours later our food arrived. Some hot and some ice cold, which I don't understand at all. They told me when I called, at a 1hr wait time, that orders that are called in go out first and that I picked ASAP so it goes out when the rush dies down. This is a great chinese restaurant because the quality is good, the portions are huge and the prices are low. We (4 diners total) ordered General Tso's Chicken, Pork Lo Mein, Chicken Chop Sewey, Egg Foo Young, and Mongolian Beef and the total price was only $40.63! They even gave us 2 huge boxes of white rice for free. All the other Chinese places in the Gurnee/Lake Villa area would have cost at least $10 per entree so I was pleasantly surprised with this experience. I highly recommend this place and will be back there very soon. read more
