Posted from a really old visit Server Ricki was pleasant with a big smile. She initially brought me catfish instead of crab cakes. It looked so good that I almost kept it. I'll be trying that next. My only complaint would be that my crab cakes were served fresh and hot but were plated on the catfish plate. I'm guessing because my eggs and potatoes weren't served hot. She did disappear for long periods of time. No pork chops in stock. :-( Breakfast sandwich Dining guest said that it was "too much butter" but enjoyed every bite. Crab cakes Pretty darn tasty. Eggs scrambled with cheddar and they actually cooked the cheddar into the eggs without a request! The potatoes are good. I don't think Rikki wanted us to leave. Poor customer service! I ordered online and I specifically used their selections on my order which was made incorrectly and contained food items I'm allergic to. I immediately called them when noticed and they told me I would need to drive back there for them to process a refund in person despite using THEIR website to order my food and I HAD to do it tonight before they closed or the manager on duty would not give my refund or remake the order correctly. When asked to speak to the manager that was on duty, since they had to be the one to give me a refund, I was hung up on and then all my calls were ignored after that. RedStar Matteson has the best food in the area hands down. The service is top tier every time I'm there I enjoy the whiskey bar where I can watch my football games while it's whole party going at the second which is a total vibe. The Short Rib Sliders are a must try whenever you visit. And I never liked grits my whole life I tried butter I tried sugar but when I tasted the grits at Redstar I get a order to go every time read more

First I must note that they had $.60 wings and I could not pass up on them! I had 10 and was able to get 2 flavors, garlic parmesan and triple threat. Get the triple threat!!!!! It was delicious. The pomegranate froz-a-rita was tasty! The sliders were okay. I had to ask for a few items to spice it up. The fries were okay too. Tyra waited on us and she was amazing! The establishment has karaoke on Friday and Monday. I'll definitely be back to participate. And the playlist was 90s RnB, my fav. This place is a vibe and black owned. read more

I've visited red star a couple times now and I must say it's very dissatisfying and disappointing each and every time I attend. For it to be a black own restaurant the staff and mangers do not represent this establishment well for the enjoyment of their customers. I've attended this restaurant for the purpose of my friends & I can't anymore. I attended today with my friend, and we was here for the tacos and margarita flight Tuesday's special. Before our waitress greeted us, another waiter dropped a stack of menus on my friend, then walked away. Then, our waitress, Troyonna started by taking our order and then returning to the table 15 minutes later saying, "I was just told that we were out of steak tacos". Remind you, it's Red Star's Tuesday special and it's only 6:00pm when we order. Okay, so my friend ordered a burger and I wasn't going to order food, just the flight. In the process of waiting for the drinks, Troyonna returned with one flight and said, "they messed up your drinks and made it frozen; so I'm waiting for them to make it on the rocks". My friend flight was brought back melted down I must add. In that process, I asked if I could order lamb chops and have fries on the side instead. Troyonna responded, " owe I don't know, the last time I did that I got in trouble". I asked her, "can you ask your mangers if they can accept this because I'm dissatisfied about the messed up drinks and not being able to order what I came for". She went back and talked to her mangers and said, "you still have to chose two different sides and I'm going charge a side of fries". I asked her to repeat her self; and she did with that same response. I cancelled my entire order. When the receipt came due to my friend making her food take out, they attempted to add my untouched flight to my friend receipt when I clearly cancelled the order and did not touch any drink. I highly would not recommend this restaurant. A manger never spoke with me even though I expressed my dissatisfying concerns. On February 8, 2023, around 8:30 am when I made my initial review, red star commented with their email. I emailed them immediately after at 8:54am. Instead of replying to my email, they block me on Instagram for my review. This is why I said the Owner, mangers, and employees disgraceful represent black owned businesses and I will not be returning. read more

Poor management. Misleading business practices. Subpar food. The management over charges the customer and doesn't inform them of automatic gratuity that's added to the bill. Though they'll respond to your review with an ask to email them so that they can "resolve" the issue, it's all performative and a resolution is never reached. I will not be returning to this place nor do I encourage anyone to support this business. The lack of respect and courtesy towards the customer is astounding. Please give your time and money to a business that respects the customer and has transparent pricing. read more

Devastated. Sat for 2 hrs just to be told they are unable to make my food and a friends which we both had a chicken wrap while watching other servers still bring out food. No silver ware for my other friend with her crab cake which wasnt warm. I approached the bar asked for a manager and the bartender failed to do, asking to give a free drink when im hungry is crazy work. They had a gas leak which was confusing why do u still have people in here then. We would give no stars if it was an option. Do not place to go orders on Saturday nights. Our order was placed through Toast with pickup time 8:40. We waited until 9:33!!! Food was cold, they gave us no dressing for our salad. They did not give any concessions or refund for our trouble. Complete waste of time. We will not eat here again. read more

I visited this venue last Sunday with my family. The food did not disappoint. I had the shrimp and grits which was very creamy and full of flavor. My husband and I ordered dinner which consisted of Gumbo. We were anticipating so much more than what we received. We received in that "Gumbo" The tip end of the tinest crab leg imaginable, a sliver of shrimp and other items which tasted like this was a pot of re-reheated fare from days prior. For the amount spent on this dinner, we expected better. Okay so OMG this place is absolutely amazing, from the food to the atmosphere, our amazing server Daquan. So i was introduce to this restuarant by a relative and the first time I patronized was on a Wednesday evening and as we were sitting there eating our delicious food ( braised short ribs and mashed potato and a side order of jerk mac and cheese, it was brought to our attention that they have karaoke on Wednesdays but we didn't place for that so we ate ordered some phenomenal drinks made by the bartender Summer and Daquan. ( pictures attached). This place and Server was so phenomenal we returned three days later for my cousin birthday and Oh Boy, Saturday nights are super fun, from the food to the DJ and guess what Daquan was our server once more. The Service was quick the food came out pronto and he kept the drinks coming. So because we were celebrating a birthday we ordered like three towers of the pineapple mango margarita, super delicious might I add. But it doesn't end there so after my family saw (via social media) how much of a great time we had they wanted to return on Saturday with a party of Twelve. We weren't as lucky this time to get our favorite server Daquan but we was happy to be back. So needless to say my husband and I returned that following a Tuesday for comedy night he said he just had to go see what the hype was all about and oh yes we will be returning he loved it as well. read more

A absolute NO do not get spinach' artichoke .. no taste at all and watered down .. I forgot to get pics of the appetizers. All the burgers were small even got the buns from the kids meal burger to the Hawk and the bigger burger I forgot the name of .. the steak was seasoned very well .. greens tasted like can greens . The macaroni & jerk chicken was decent in flavor but had like a very very small portion of chicken .. which was disappointing and especially the appearance the jerk sauce is sweet not hot at all .. the salmon and grits was dry and they used the short rib gravy for the salmon and grits ‍.. lamb chops to go was only 3 but small asl .. our waitress was nice and informative they charge gratuity automatically on all checks so 1st & last time coming here all the way from the city read more

Delicious! I've patronized this establishment previously when it was a smaller lounge on Sauk Trail. I always enjoyed it; and, I always look forward to stopping by for a cocktail when I'm home in Chicago. However, the restaurant is AMAZING! I went for a late lunch recently with friends. The service wasn't ideal. The food, however, was absolutely delicious OR as we say in the community. Despite the challenges with the service I was willing to give it another try. Two days later I returned with my family. This time, the service was good and the food was DELICIOUS!!! Lo was our server. She was great. Amongst us we had: Collard Greens - Short Rib Mac & Cheese Mini Crab Cakes Buffalo Mac & Cheese Short Rib Melt (think patty melt) Crab Mac & Cheese *I don't eat shellfish, but my dining companions all said the shellfish dishes were excellent. I ordered the same meal both days because if it ain't broke don't fix it and don't mess with perfection (Short Rib Mac & Cheese and Collard Greens). Redstar Restaurant is highly recommended. I'm not sure when I'll be home again, but I can tell you Redstar will get my money. Happily! I wish them loads of success! read more

It is a cool spot to hangout in the south suburbs. Went on Friday to celebrate a birthday. Pricing for food was reasonable. Drinks are okay. The crowd was nice but mostly women hanging with friends. The restrooms were small; only 2 stalls in women and 1 stall in the men restroom. The line for the ladies restroom gets extremely long from patrons getting sick and vomiting on floor and toilet. Cleaning crew is needed to keep restrooms clean. Waitress were okay/cool. DJ was also playing a diverse mix of songs for different decades but more R&B than anything. If you are in the area and want to have a cool place to go to then I would say check it out. read more

I visited Red Star for the 1st time yesterday May 4th. I will not be returning. The manager acted like she had an attitude from the moment we arrived. They tell you, you have 90 mins. To sit and eat and you can be asked to move. that wouldnt be a problem if it didn't take 15 mins for a waitress to take our order and it took some of us over an hour to receive our food. I order the jerk flat bread and it took over an hour for it to come out. The restaurant is nice but the manager and the amount of time it takes to get the food is terrible. read more

We told the waitress we was done eating and full by time the appetizers came she said well I do not have control over the kitchen and slammed the plate on the table. Service was AWFUL, I'm already aware of how slow it can be in most bars but this was insane, we ordered drinks before the game, our drinks finally came at half time.
