Hi, I'm a victim of the new red lobster marketing, here's my story. I'm a late 80's baby, I grew up having special occasion meals at red lobster. We all know they've been on the decline for quite some time but recently with a new ceo I decided to give them a go. This was a terribly disappointing meal, the biscuits won't keep them alive for much longer. The shrimp Alfredo had no taste, the barely steamed almost raw broccoli had not 1 drop of seasoning. This was a delivery order, they gave me the wrong salad and no dressing, and no utensils. The biscuits are still good not great and the coconut shrimp was ok just needed a pinch of salt. I hear they have happy hour now so I'd have a drink and a biscuit here but I won't be wasting money on food.

The employees at this location were really nice and made sure everything was fine. The wait for the food was not too bad but definitely worth it. Ended up ordering some crab legs and garlic butter shrimp and it was delicious. It was not too busy considering it was a Tuesday evening but I have no complaints at all and the overall experience was great.

I left my wallet at home. They no longer take Apple Pay or wallet from iPhone. So I came right back and they're closed at 9:45 yet are open until 10pm. On top of that they are letting a homeless man what is this the new ambiance? Let him at stay inside past time their supposed "closing time"?!!!! Make it make sense because the devil is a lie and I'm a paying customer but he gets to lay up I will NEVER eat food at this location again after the total disrespect.

It's in Flossmoor, IL. I'm so happy to do this review on them. We went on a Tuesday and although I had in mind what I wanted to order from the regular menu, we arrived while their Happy Hour was still going on so we decided to take advantage of their tacos for Taco Tuesday and their guacamole. The guac and chips came out first. It looked so fresh and when I tasted it, the angels were singing! Delicious. Then came the tacos - I was surprised how big they were, filled up with good stuff. I had the steak and the chicken. Both were good but I liked the steak best. I had had a challenging workday so I treated myself to the Lemondrop Flight as I love lemondrop martinis. You can pick three from the flavors of original, passion fruit, watermelon, mango and strawberry. The presentation is beautiful in what they bring it in. Toya, one of the owners made it herself and she is definitely a good at making drinks. I enjoyed them immensely. This place is a total VIBE - small, intimate and cozy. They play R&B that takes you back to the 80s and 90s - we were thoroughly enjoying it. Many come in and sit at the bar where there are two large screen TVs. They also have a small outdoor seating when the weather is nice. We were really enjoying our time there. We had the best wait staff - Chris was super cool, engaging and just plain nice. He was informing us of all the events they have there which piqued my interest. Toya also came over and talked with us and I complimented her on the restaurant and promised her that I would definitely be back and would bring others. I have already posted about them on social media and many of my friends are planning on seeing what they offer. For dessert, I ordered the Turtle Cheesecake. I'm kind of a cheesecake snob because my late Mother made the best cheesecake. The presentation of their cheesecake was gorgeous. The caramel drizzle and nuts on it was inviting. One bite and I was SOLD! I was too full to eat the entire big slice they gave me so I worked on it some more when I got home. This place opened in 2023. I wish them the best because they definitely have something there. I can't wait to come back there, it's a place to come, relax, eat good food and enjoy the positive environment that there. Check out their weekly events, brunch and live entertainment on Saturdays. Thank you Poppin' Corks, A+!!

She recommended Poppin Corks Bistro. I passed by several time, and being solo, I was looking to get a seat at the bar rather than in the main dining area. There has never been a time that I passed that there was a seat open at the bar, so I sat in the main dining area this one time. I ordered blackened catfish with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. This was a hit. It was full of flavor without going overboard with seasoning. And I appreciate that it was cooked to order. It made up for the cranberry juice being water with a "hint" of cranberry juice, an indication that it probably came from a tap. Service was top and one of the owners made rounds to check on customers. I may stop by again at some point in the future. It would certainly be a welcomed break when I am taking respite from cooking at home.

Since I was solo, I sat at the bar. I wanted to start with spinach artichoke dip. There was none. So, I ordered carrot and black bean tacos. The tacos were a good backup. Those who lean towards vegetarian would like them. I must say that I was expecting some heat from the jalapeños. For my main dish, I had the shrimp and grits. It took a few swallows before the flavor kicked in. The sauce was tasty, but was maybe a notch above mildly seasoned. I have a feeling that the tomatoes in the recipe added a little acidity. With the addition of spinach, this dish landed in gourmet territory. From what I gather, the restaurant has been under new management for a few years. It feels like they are working out kinks. I will give them a few months before I try them again.

I'm not really gonna talk about the ambience, because for me it wasn't there, but that is not the basis of my scoring. The old-fashioned made by our waiter was good, excellent, perfect. We wanted a margarita, but they let us know that they did not have the materials needed to make it. They also did not have the ingredients to make a few starters and entrées on the menu so their limited menu became even more limited. The food, we ordered crabcakes, and a colossal honey glazed shrimp. The crabcakes came out and they were flat, they looked like what was supposed to be one crabcake broken into three. The shrimp came out and instead of having colossal shrimp we had small shrimp, maybe even baby shrimp. We addressed the concern with the shrimp and they said they're not going to charge us for it. With our pasta came a side salad, the salad and the salad dressing, which was a lemon vinaigrette, was good. When we received the pasta, there was only four pieces of sausage, the chicken was unseasoned and the sauce was cheese sauce with hot sauce added, no other seasoning. Nothing about the pasta was Nola.

I visited during a Saturday afternoon and was surprised with how empty it was. It was one other family that were in the middle of their meal so I was a little nervous. They do have a full service bar with cocktails; I ordered a mixed drink and while it tasted fine, I could hardly taste any alcohol in it. The service was also a bit slower than I'd imagine considering that it was empty when I dined. They enjoyed the poboys and thought the fried green tomato on it was an interesting touch. I ordered the vegetarian jambalaya, fried green tomatoes, and fried buffalo mushroom. Overall, I feel like everything, I ordered, was lacking in seasoning. The fried green tomatoes were good with dipping sauce. The batter on the mushrooms were on the soggy side; they might do better to cut the mushrooms instead of serving them whole. The jambalaya was too soupy. Traditional jambalaya doesn't have a liquid/soup to it. The jambalaya was more like a veggie étouffée. I would visit again to try the vegetarian jambalaya and, maybe, have the fried green tomatoes again.

The person that seated us also was running food and ensuring tables were kept clean. Since it had been so long since I dined here, the menu appeared smaller. I appreciated that our server Adam explained some of his favorites. The cocktail that I got was excellent. The cornbread appetizer was huge. I went with the gumbo and it was full of meat pieces. A couple people I know had been Red Star before and were less than enthusiastic about their experiences. One said the drinks weren't good, and another said it was "ratchet." She also said the service was terrible. They both said they visited once and never returned. Despite what others said, we decided to keep an open mind. We arrived after 5 pm, and the hostess greeted us warmly. We found our party easily in the rear of the establishment and were greeted by a tall, handsome gentleman who was doubling as a waiter and bartender. The space is large and cozy... the vibe is lively yet chill and inviting. There were a lot of regulars there, and the staff was very friendly with them. A little too friendly, whereas many of them were too busy socializing to be concerned about the patrons. Our waiter took our drink order and then came back to take our food order. After that he never checked on us. I watched as he hugged other customers while laughing and talking all night. I ordered the catfish nuggets and wanted some hot sauce but could never flag anyone down to ask for it. So, I just went without it. There also weren't enough napkins in the area where I sat, and I had to flag the waiter down to have the water carafe refilled. There appeared to be a manager there as well, wearing a suit coat and Jordans. He kinda reminded me of Daymond John from Shark Tank. He appeared to be helping out at the bar, but he also socialized with regular customers, so it's obvious the the restaurant culture is fostered from the top down. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but when the clientele is neglected, the business suffers. Poor customer service is what can stop someone from being a repeat customer. It's fine to be social, but the customers should always come first. The catfish nuggets and chicken wings were decent. The skin was crispy and flavorful, but the meat itself was bland. The food was edible, but it's certainly not spectacular. Go for the vibes, not the food. The drinks were also just okay. I had a couple of frozen margaritas that were much too sweet. My sister had the Froze, which was also very sweet. Honestly, the drinks tasted like juice. They weren't very strong either. The bartender clearly isn't giving out generous pours of alcohol. One of my sister's coworkers picked up the entire tab for everyone so I don't even know how much the bill cost. She's a regular customer and loves the restaurant. All of us celebrating there was her idea. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. They have multiple televisions if you want to watch a game & there are also slot machines in the front of the restaurant. The bathroom was well-kept and clean too. I'd return to Red Star because of the vibes... not necessarily for the food or drinks. I didn't think the environment was ratchet at all. There was a DJ spinning all night, and the music was a bit too loud, but other than that it was fine. The music is so loud that you can't hear the person next to you. I had never met my sister's coworkers and couldn't really get to know them because we could barely hear each other. The staff should definitely reconsider the volume level as it relates to the music. It's a restaurant, not a club. Overall, the experience was enjoyable, though. People were simply out enjoying themselves. There was no negativity or uncouth behavior.
