Scallops
Pastor J.

I bought several items that were split between three people. I should have taken pics of everything. My share of scallops was left in the bag and I had not seen them until I poured them out. For starters, why would you serve mix match scallops?? This was very sketchy. I also had buffalo wing zings, lightly breaded shrimp, perch (I didn't care for it being in little strips) and hush puppies. Everything was slightly over-cooked, except three scallops (one is not pictured). I "might" give them another chance since we all deserve an opportunity to make things right and it wasn't a horribly bad encounter. I was excited to hear this location in Olympia Fields had opened so I wouldn't have to keep going to 22nd & Canal. I pray it's a better experience next time.

The Wing Zings and Catfish was pretty good and filling to me; definitely a step up in the seafood department in the area.

Love they always have a variety to choose from and fresh. I had the Mixto with shrimp, scallop and salmon blackened. Came with garlic mashed and broccolini which I subbed for green beans. They need to keep this on the menu! It worked for my appetite size as everything was a small portion and the flavor was so good! My other friends also had a special which was Halibut. They raved over that as well. Would like that as a regular menu item! If you go and these are on the menu, you will not be disappointed!

We tried the Peachtree, Rappahannock, and 1871 raw oysters. The entree I tried the whitefish picada. We both agreed the 1871 oysters were the better ones, as they were clean and slightly briny. My colleague ordered the Ceasars salad and the salmon dish. He said the salmon was really good, but the Ceasars salad was bland. I liked my white fish dish, even though it was a bit mushy. Interesting features at Vinny's obviously includes the revolving front entry door, the picture frames on the walls, the hand wash sink in the dining room, the disco ball, and the lively atmosphere. Don't forget to look for the Hulkster's yellow boots in the men's restroom.

The fried chicken wings were also delicious: crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Our servers, Jordan and Ashton, were spot on the entire time -- timely, professional, polite, and accommodating given the circumstances. Now for the rest. The brunch menu and pricing were a bit ridiculous. When our group first arrived, we were told there were no fried options available, yet later during the meal we noticed other tables receiving fried food -- which is ultimately how we ended up getting the chicken wings ourselves. The food came out sporadically, and some people in our party never even received what they ordered. The restaurant was not particularly busy, so it honestly felt more like poor execution than being overwhelmed. The music was nice in the background, and the drinks were great, but overall the experience was disappointing -- especially for a table celebrating three generations of mothers on Mother's Day. When we addressed the issues, the restaurant manager, Rashaun, seemed more inconvenienced than concerned. Meanwhile, we watched him moving around the restaurant the entire time while our table continued having a poor experience. Definitely expected much better.

The Good... THE…read moreEXTERIOR & INTERIOR is thoughtfully designed for a brewery-style restaurant. THE WINGS were hot, flavorful, and well-seasoned. * While $18 for eight wings is definitely on the expensive side, I was celebrating a birthday and genuinely enjoyed them. STREET TACOS are truly street-size--very small--but the flavor was excellent. SHRIMP PO' BOY deserves special mention: it's huge, generously packed with shrimp, and fried perfectly. The Bad... THE MEATLOAF entrée, served with mashed potatoes and collard greens, was a major disappointment. * The mashed potatoes were cold, and the greens were only lukewarm. * When we notified the server, she offered to have the entire meal replaced. However, what came back to the table was the same plate my wife tasted and found cold. The plate was simply reheated under a warmer. * Hot food should be refired, not reheated, for both quality and safety reasons and for the price! MANAGER RESOLUTION: Afterward, the manager explained that we "have to pay" for food that was incorrectly served by them! He was pleasant and worked to address the issue without incident, stating that the server was unaware of a recent policy updates. He acknowledged that the server misinformed us of what could be offered for the cold entree items According to the manager, their policy is to either: * Reheat the food under a warmer, or * Allow you to order a new entrée--but still require payment for the original dish that was sent back. The manager referenced a policy printed at the bottom of the menu, which reads: "Refunds are provided for preparation errors, preferences." * If hot food is not served hot, isn't that a preparation error? *If the server does not know the policy but offers me something, whose fault is that on managing my expectations? NOTE: If the kitchen messes up your food, you still have to pay for it at this place! Read the other negative reviews. This was NOT an isolated incident. My wife was understandably disappointed and simply wanted to order a different entrée. The manager initially said the policy did not allow that, though he eventually agreed to refire the entire entrée rather than reheating it a second time. He emphasized that the policy was above his level of authority. Once the issue was escalated to management, our server did not return to the table again until we specifically asked the manager about her absence. Considering this was my daughter's birthday lunch, the experience was frustrating and disappointing, especially given how strong the food started out. Welp...I won't be back here. I really tried to support one of our businesses.

One of the first things I noticed was how clean and well-maintained everything is--from the seating area to the food prep and kitchen spaces. That attention to cleanliness immediately stood out. I decided on the AYCE and sampled a variety of appetizers and sushi selections. The consistent standout across everything I tried was the freshness, quality, and flavor. Each item tasted thoughtfully prepared and well-seasoned. I've included photos listing all of my selections. Service from Jason was friendly and attentive throughout my visit. He maintained a steady presence, ensuring that additional orders were taken promptly and that my drink was always refilled. I will definitely be returning again in the near future.

If you go on a day that she is there, ask to be seated in her section. Good service with good food has a tendency to take your experience to atmospheric levels! The bread baskets were filled with rustic Italian bread that was so delicious I thought I was at a trattoria in the rolling hills of Tuscany. Instead of butter, the upscale olive oil dip was very authentic. The menu offers a wide variety of choices for everyone that appeals to carnivores and vegetarians alike. Pastas, beef, pork, lamb and seafood. I asked to substitute one starch for another and the chef made it happen! The food was incredibly fresh. My dining companions has the Maple glazed salmon. The other had the lamb chops. Both raved about the freshness of their meals as well as the perfection to which their dishes were cooked! I had the scallops and substituted the starch with Truffle Fries. The theatrics associated with the presentation of my scallops was breathtaking. It was au flambé! They were so fresh and slightly crusted, i'd never tasted anything that delicious before. Even popular and legendary EAST COAST seafood restaurants could learn a lot about the preparation and presentation of scallops. My meal appropriately mixed textures, tangy tartness and sweetness in the veggie dish consisting of chopped zucchini sweet potatoes and spinach. The way that our meals were plated and presented was sheer "ART," worthy of a museum display. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny! If I were to recommend an enhancement, I'd recommend some soft background music/jazz or a singer and pianist. It's that type of place. We were celebrating a friend's birthday. The presentation was spectacular! I can't wait to dine al fresco when the weather permits!
