Visited Hidden Manna with a party of nine and was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly the seating process went. We used the waitlist option and were seated promptly -- a huge plus when dining with a larger group. The staff was friendly and attentive, and you could tell they were working hard to make sure everyone had a good experience. The atmosphere gives off a warm, family-style vibe -- very laid-back and welcoming. It feels like a local spot where folks gather to enjoy a meal and good company. As for the food, it's advertised as Creole, but it leans more toward traditional soul food. The dishes were edible and satisfying, but not necessarily standout or rave-worthy. Everything we ordered was decent, but we've definitely had more memorable meals elsewhere. Still, it's a solid spot for comfort food if you're in the area. There's parking available, which is always a plus in the south suburbs. Can get crowded and looks like a local favorite--if you consider yourself a foodie that cooks and loves good cooks or from a family of good cooks maybe visited New Orleans on a food tour please lower the expectations and just go eat!! All in all, Hidden Manna is a nice place with great service and a chill atmosphere. While the food didn't blow us away, the hospitality and convenience made for a pleasant outing.

I found out about this place on social media and decided to stop by while I was in the area. There was a minimal wait. You can scan the QR code at the door or near the entrance to add yourself to the waitlist. The food we entered was really good. The waitress was fantastic. She was the only waitress on staff this day and she handled the room with such grace.

I was craving Fish & Grits with homestyle pancakes. I remembered Hidden Manna and realized I haven't been in years. So I went one afternoon and was 100% satisfied! The servicers were friendly and got our orders right. Since it was a weekday it wasn't crowded like the weekends lol. The pancakes were different than I remember, but were delicious like my grandma used to make with buttery fried crispy edges. The fish was clean, tender, crispy and well seasoned. The creamy grits with the spicy cajan gravy couldn't have hit the spot more. I got perch because I don't trust everyone's catfish lol. But next time I'll get the catfish because I trust them now. Best Arnold Palmer too. 10/10 definitely recommend.

Visited the restaurant on a Sunday for brunch with a party of 5. We were greeted and sat right away. This restaurant is on the smaller side but it gives you a hometown feel during your visit which is cozy. All the staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the seafood omelet that comes with shrimp and crab meat along with grits or hashbrowns and pancakes. The eggs were fluffy and the seafood was cooked well. As a personal preference, I would of preferred a bit more seasoning but it was well executed. The grits were cooked properly and complemented the omelet. The pancakes were a good size and golden brown.

This food was bland but was at a good price point. I wouldn't come back here. Our service was pretty good too! Loved the mimosas but the food missed the mark

This place is a great little gem. I was here last weekend for a funeral. My cousin picked this place when I said I was some shrimp and grits. Their shrimp and grits were very good with some spice. We had fried green tomatoes with a remoulade sauce. I loved my lunch. A few other meals were a shrimp omelette with hollandaise sauce, and a traditional breakfast. We had mimosas, we ordered a bottle with cranberry & orange juice. The waitress staff & hostess were so nice and polite. The waitress had 4 different tables by us but you wouldn't known it cuz she catered to everyone. I will be back when I go back to visit my old home town.

    Do they take reservations?

I love me some Hidden Manna Café, I had my birthday brunch there last year in July. It is a front runner for this year for my birthday dinner. I remember seeing a bar there do you serve drinks also?

We got there 5 mins early & we're told they had no ETA on when a table would be available because the venue was booked for party. I asked several times if she knew how long the wait would be, we were okay waiting for a short period of time, not the end of the world. But she doubled down on having no clue and said "I have no where to fit you in until they leave". I then asked why they would be accepting reservations if they knew accommodating them wouldn't be realistic for this evening and the hostess said she didn't know. Given the reservation process requires an email and phone number I asked why someone couldn't have let us know sooner so we didn't get dressed up and come out. Again, she couldn't answer. In disbelief I had to turn to my family and tell them they had no room for us and endlessly apologize for the change in plans. And had to search for somewhere else to go for his birthday. I was just really disappointed & while we drove to the next restaurant, I emailed the restaurants direct website and gave the same feedback. 25 minutes later, while at Francesca's in downtown Frankfort, the restaurant called me for not showing up to our reservation and canceled on me! I am not sure what reality I was living that day, but not hearing back from the restaurant at all after sending them direct feedback on their miscommunication that day, I figure this should be public knowledge for other patrons planning an evening with family for a gathering. Just an all around disappointing encounter. It left a bad taste in my father's mouth & he said he won't be back.

We were greeted nicely and warned of workers calling off. They even provided mixed chips between our appetizers and entrees. We started with the grilled and fried shrimp. Both were amazing. Realizing there was no dipping sauce but not being able to stop eating them while awaiting sauce was commendable. Both were very tasty. The fried green tomatoes were cooked perfectly and seasoned impeccably... again no sauce needed. The catfish and the salmon bites again, seasoned and fried perfectly. The fried mushrooms were different but so good. The star of the night was the Shaniky pasta and I'm not a pasta fan. I had only one complaint. For the same price, you get either 4 pieces of beautifully fried catfish and fries or one piece of beautifully fried catfish sitting in a huge bowl of very tasty but dry dirty rice. I would eat the dirty rice again, but I would choose 4 pieces of beautiful fried catfish with fries any day over a big bowl of rice and one piece of fish. Will definitely return.... Regularly!!!

The Thursday special was the highlight of the meal. The lamb chops were well-seasoned, and the lemon drops absolutely saved the day. The appetizers were decent too. The crab cakes were a nice size, but at $12 each, they felt overpriced. I think serving three smaller crab cakes for around $15 would make more sense and create a better presentation. I didn't personally try the oysters, but everyone in my group agreed they would've been much better without the cheese, which overpowered the flavor. Now...the main attraction--the item the restaurant is literally named after--the crab bagz. Unfortunately, they were more like trash bagz. The shrimp tasted like a frozen bag of shrimp from Aldi that was simply boiled with a little butter. The smoked sausage looked and tasted more like a boiled hot dog. Frying or grilling the sausage before adding it to the bag would make a huge difference in both flavor and texture. The corn tasted old, almost like it had been sitting in seasoned water for hours and was simply reheated when ordered. By the time I got to the potato, I had completely lost interest. The entire boil needs more seasoning cooked into the seafood and vegetables--not just added afterward. A heavier Cajun dry seasoning and deeper flavor infusion would go a long way. New Orleans is my second home, so yes, my standards for seafood boils are high. But this just missed the mark. If I came back, it would be for the drinks, lamb chops, and appetizers. Those are the real stars here. Unfortunately, the crab bagz--the signature dish--just aren't it.

I also understand that servers sometimes make assumptions about guests. However, every customer deserves the same level of attention and service, regardless of what a server thinks the tip may be. According to the receipt provided by the manager, I believe our server's name was Jaden. Unfortunately, she never introduced herself and only checked on our table once throughout the meal. Most of the service we received actually came from the manager on duty. I found myself repeatedly getting up to ask for things until I finally asked Jaden, if she was our server. I hoped that would prompt a little more attention to our table, but it didn't. Instead, she remained focused on another table that had arrived before us and was still there after we left. I watched her check on them four or five times while our table was largely ignored. Whether intentionally or not, it certainly felt as though she had decided our table wasn't worth her time. If that was her assumption, then in this particular case she was correct about one thing: my husband and I will not tip for bad service. I have no problem rewarding excellent service, but I also believe tips should reflect the quality of the experience provided. Rather than leaving money for poor service, I chose to give the cash I had to the busboys, who were attentive and helpful throughout the evening. The reason I'm sharing this review is because I don't want one bad experience to overshadow what has otherwise been a good restaurant. I've dined here several times before, live nearby, and have always enjoyed my visits. That's why this experience stood out so much. I'm willing to give the restaurant another chance because I know the level of service they're capable of providing. My hope is that when I return, every guest will receive the same level of attention and hospitality, regardless of assumptions about who they are or what they may tip. Great service should be consistent, and that's what keeps customers coming back. One final thought: tipping culture only works when both sides do their part. GUESTS should recognize and reward good service, and SERVERS should provide quality service to every table. When assumptions are made on either side, EVERYONE loses.
