Visited Hidden Manna with a party of nine and was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly the seating process went. We used the waitlist option and were seated promptly -- a huge plus when dining with a larger group. The staff was friendly and attentive, and you could tell they were working hard to make sure everyone had a good experience. The atmosphere gives off a warm, family-style vibe -- very laid-back and welcoming. It feels like a local spot where folks gather to enjoy a meal and good company. As for the food, it's advertised as Creole, but it leans more toward traditional soul food. The dishes were edible and satisfying, but not necessarily standout or rave-worthy. Everything we ordered was decent, but we've definitely had more memorable meals elsewhere. Still, it's a solid spot for comfort food if you're in the area. There's parking available, which is always a plus in the south suburbs. Can get crowded and looks like a local favorite--if you consider yourself a foodie that cooks and loves good cooks or from a family of good cooks maybe visited New Orleans on a food tour please lower the expectations and just go eat!! All in all, Hidden Manna is a nice place with great service and a chill atmosphere. While the food didn't blow us away, the hospitality and convenience made for a pleasant outing.

I found out about this place on social media and decided to stop by while I was in the area. There was a minimal wait. You can scan the QR code at the door or near the entrance to add yourself to the waitlist. The food we entered was really good. The waitress was fantastic. She was the only waitress on staff this day and she handled the room with such grace.

I was craving Fish & Grits with homestyle pancakes. I remembered Hidden Manna and realized I haven't been in years. So I went one afternoon and was 100% satisfied! The servicers were friendly and got our orders right. Since it was a weekday it wasn't crowded like the weekends lol. The pancakes were different than I remember, but were delicious like my grandma used to make with buttery fried crispy edges. The fish was clean, tender, crispy and well seasoned. The creamy grits with the spicy cajan gravy couldn't have hit the spot more. I got perch because I don't trust everyone's catfish lol. But next time I'll get the catfish because I trust them now. Best Arnold Palmer too. 10/10 definitely recommend.

Visited the restaurant on a Sunday for brunch with a party of 5. We were greeted and sat right away. This restaurant is on the smaller side but it gives you a hometown feel during your visit which is cozy. All the staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered the seafood omelet that comes with shrimp and crab meat along with grits or hashbrowns and pancakes. The eggs were fluffy and the seafood was cooked well. As a personal preference, I would of preferred a bit more seasoning but it was well executed. The grits were cooked properly and complemented the omelet. The pancakes were a good size and golden brown.

This food was bland but was at a good price point. I wouldn't come back here. Our service was pretty good too! Loved the mimosas but the food missed the mark

This place is a great little gem. I was here last weekend for a funeral. My cousin picked this place when I said I was some shrimp and grits. Their shrimp and grits were very good with some spice. We had fried green tomatoes with a remoulade sauce. I loved my lunch. A few other meals were a shrimp omelette with hollandaise sauce, and a traditional breakfast. We had mimosas, we ordered a bottle with cranberry & orange juice. The waitress staff & hostess were so nice and polite. The waitress had 4 different tables by us but you wouldn't known it cuz she catered to everyone. I will be back when I go back to visit my old home town.

    Do they take reservations?

I love me some Hidden Manna Café, I had my birthday brunch there last year in July. It is a front runner for this year for my birthday dinner. I remember seeing a bar there do you serve drinks also?

    Yes they do!

    How is the coffee?

My last visit was when they were still on Old Western Ave in Blue Island--way overdue for a return. Let's start with the food--absolutely delicious. The three of us kicked things off with the Cast Iron Cornbread, and trust me, don't skip it. Perfectly done and a great start to the meal. For mains, we went with the Pitmaster's N'awlins Gumbo, Hickory Buttered BBQ Shrimp, and Burnt Ends. Every dish was spot on--flavorful, well-executed, and clearly made with care. The restaurant itself is pristine--clean, polished, and classy without feeling stuffy. Service was just as strong. Our server, Nick, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Safe to say, it will NOT be another 30 years before my next visit. Highly recommend.

My coworkers and I would go to the old location from time to time. Their new location opened in 2019, but this is the first time that I got to check it out. The restaurant is gorgeous! One thing that I noticed was all staff that I encountered generally looked happy. The host was super friendly and offered vegan or gluten free menus if we needed. The person that seated us also was running food and ensuring tables were kept clean. Since it had been so long since I dined here, the menu appeared smaller. I appreciated that our server Adam explained some of his favorites. The cocktail that I got was excellent. The cornbread appetizer was huge. I went with the gumbo and it was full of meat pieces. It was really flavorful. Adam was super friendly and made us feel welcome. Parking lot is tight, but they also offer valet. I highly recommend this spot if you are looking for some Louisiana style cusine.

Since I was solo, I sat at the bar. I wanted to start with spinach artichoke dip. There was none. So, I ordered carrot and black bean tacos. The tacos were a good backup. Those who lean towards vegetarian would like them. I must say that I was expecting some heat from the jalapeños. For my main dish, I had the shrimp and grits. It took a few swallows before the flavor kicked in. The sauce was tasty, but was maybe a notch above mildly seasoned. I have a feeling that the tomatoes in the recipe added a little acidity. With the addition of spinach, this dish landed in gourmet territory. From what I gather, the restaurant has been under new management for a few years. It feels like they are working out kinks. I will give them a few months before I try them again.

I'm not really gonna talk about the ambience, because for me it wasn't there, but that is not the basis of my scoring. The old-fashioned made by our waiter was good, excellent, perfect. We wanted a margarita, but they let us know that they did not have the materials needed to make it. They also did not have the ingredients to make a few starters and entrées on the menu so their limited menu became even more limited. The food, we ordered crabcakes, and a colossal honey glazed shrimp. The crabcakes came out and they were flat, they looked like what was supposed to be one crabcake broken into three. The shrimp came out and instead of having colossal shrimp we had small shrimp, maybe even baby shrimp. We addressed the concern with the shrimp and they said they're not going to charge us for it. With our pasta came a side salad, the salad and the salad dressing, which was a lemon vinaigrette, was good. When we received the pasta, there was only four pieces of sausage, the chicken was unseasoned and the sauce was cheese sauce with hot sauce added, no other seasoning. Nothing about the pasta was Nola.
