Service was good. Food was good. We weren't rushed. I will definitely be back. It's a small so I don't know if a large group would be a good idea but definitely worth going to catch up with a friend or have a date.

Crawfish Etouffee

As usual, I enjoy searching for Black-owned restaurants and bars to frequent and this was a great addition to my list. I visited during a Saturday afternoon and was surprised with how empty it was. It was one other family that were in the middle of their meal so I was a little nervous. Luckily, the emptiness wasn't related to the quality of the food because it was good. The crawfish etouffee was well seasoned and had a bit of a kick to it if you enjoy spice. They do have a full service bar with cocktails; I ordered a mixed drink and while it tasted fine, I could hardly taste any alcohol in it. The service was also a bit slower than I'd imagine considering that it was empty when I dined. Despite those minor shortcomings, I enjoyed my dining and would keep it on my list of places to consider in the future.

We ordered lunch for pickup at Hidden Manna Cafe 3 of 4 in my party had catfish poboys with greens and beans and rice. They enjoyed the poboys and thought the fried green tomato on it was an interesting touch. I ordered the vegetarian jambalaya, fried green tomatoes, and fried buffalo mushroom. Overall, I feel like everything, I ordered, was lacking in seasoning. The fried green tomatoes were good with dipping sauce. The batter on the mushrooms were on the soggy side; they might do better to cut the mushrooms instead of serving them whole. The jambalaya was too soupy. Traditional jambalaya doesn't have a liquid/soup to it. The jambalaya was more like a veggie étouffée. I would visit again to try the vegetarian jambalaya and, maybe, have the fried green tomatoes again.

Visited Hidden Manna with a party of nine and was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly the seating process went. We used the waitlist option and were seated promptly -- a huge plus when dining with a larger group. The staff was friendly and attentive, and you could tell they were working hard to make sure everyone had a good experience. The atmosphere gives off a warm, family-style vibe -- very laid-back and welcoming. It feels like a local spot where folks gather to enjoy a meal and good company. As for the food, it's advertised as Creole, but it leans more toward traditional soul food. The dishes were edible and satisfying, but not necessarily standout or rave-worthy. Everything we ordered was decent, but we've definitely had more memorable meals elsewhere. Still, it's a solid spot for comfort food if you're in the area. There's parking available, which is always a plus in the south suburbs. Can get crowded and looks like a local favorite--if you consider yourself a foodie that cooks and loves good cooks or from a family of good cooks maybe visited New Orleans on a food tour please lower the expectations and just go eat!! All in all, Hidden Manna is a nice place with great service and a chill atmosphere. While the food didn't blow us away, the hospitality and convenience made for a pleasant outing.

I found out about this place on social media and decided to stop by while I was in the area. There was a minimal wait. You can scan the QR code at the door or near the entrance to add yourself to the waitlist. The food we entered was really good. The waitress was fantastic. She was the only waitress on staff this day and she handled the room with such grace.

I was craving Fish & Grits with homestyle pancakes. I remembered Hidden Manna and realized I haven't been in years. So I went one afternoon and was 100% satisfied! The servicers were friendly and got our orders right. Since it was a weekday it wasn't crowded like the weekends lol. The pancakes were different than I remember, but were delicious like my grandma used to make with buttery fried crispy edges. The fish was clean, tender, crispy and well seasoned. The creamy grits with the spicy cajan gravy couldn't have hit the spot more. I got perch because I don't trust everyone's catfish lol. But next time I'll get the catfish because I trust them now. Best Arnold Palmer too. 10/10 definitely recommend.

Do they take reservations?

I love me some Hidden Manna Café, I had my birthday brunch there last year in July. It is a front runner for this year for my birthday dinner. I remember seeing a bar there do you serve drinks also?

Yes they do!

It's no exaggeration when I say that my dining experience at Maple Tree Inn was one of the best…read morerestaurant experiences I've ever had! My niece and I couldn't believe this was our first visit, especially after hearing so many great things. This place is incredibly popular, so I definitely recommend making reservations. After checking in, we waited less than five minutes and struck up a fun conversation with two lovely ladies who were also first-timers. It was the perfect start to the evening. The atmosphere is warm, lively, and inviting, with Mardi Gras beads and colorful carnival masks throughout the restaurant that give it so much character. Our server was fantastic. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but he was friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. His recommendations made choosing from so many tempting options much easier. Now let's talk about the food... EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious! To kick things off, I ordered the Creole Voodoo Zombie, and my niece had the Hurricane. Both cocktails were fantastic and set the tone for an amazing meal. My niece is an excellent cook herself and has dietary restrictions, so dining out can often be disappointing. That's what made this experience even more special--she genuinely loved every bite. We started with the crab cake appetizer and the BBQ shrimp appetizer, and both were packed with incredible flavor. For my entrée, I ordered the blackened ribeye, swapping the broccolini for the collard greens (worth the $3 upcharge!). The steak was perfectly cooked, and those collard greens were phenomenal. My niece chose the blackened red snapper étouffée, and she couldn't stop raving about it. Even though we were completely full, we couldn't leave without dessert. We shared the Mississippi Mud Turtle Brownie topped with marshmallow fluff and the strawberry shortcake. Our server suggested pairing the brownie with a butterscotch liqueur, and I'm so glad I took his recommendation--it was the perfect finishing touch and complemented the dessert beautifully. We've been talking about this meal ever since we left...and that's probably the biggest compliment I can give. In fact, we were so impressed that we made reservations for next weekend before we even left--and we're bringing two friends with us! Perfect for: Date nights, celebrations, or anytime you want a memorable meal that's worth planning ahead for. Maple Tree Inn absolutely lived up to the hype. 10/10--highly recommend!

The restaurant is spacious and cozy. We sat in a booth that didn't feel tight. The cushion was also very comfortable. The menu is extensive, and you can order lunch even during the morning hours. I ordered bone-in ham, eggs, hash browns, and toast. Everything was excellent. The portion size is huge too! My sister had the corned beef hash, eggs, and toast. She loved her food as well. My brother had a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich and our godmother had waffles with a side of bacon. My godmother said the bacon wasn't crispy enough for her liking. Overall, we all enjoyed our food immensely. My brother added the grits for $1 to his sandwich. The grits were the only thing that was awful. They had no flavor whatsoever, which was disappointing. My godmother had coffee, waffles, & bacon. She wanted the bacon to be crisper, but other than that she was happy. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant. The restaurant was cozy and clean. It was packed but it was still reasonably quiet. I'd never been to Big Apple before, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out to be pretty good.

Disappointing Breakfast Experience - Poor Food Quality and Hair in My Food!…read more I was extremely disappointed with my breakfast experience at this restaurant. Honestly, the entire meal was a letdown from beginning to end. I ordered the breakfast scramble, and when it initially arrived, there was no cheese. I wasn't asked whether I wanted cheese, so I had to send it back to have some added. The vegetables weren't cooked down enough to really enjoy, and the eggs had a brownish appearance, almost as if they had been cooked on a grill that had been used for other foods. Nothing about the scramble tasted particularly fresh or well-prepared. The turkey sausage was another disappointment. It was overcooked, dry, and not enjoyable at all. I literally ate one piece and left the rest. But what really did it for me was discovering a hair in my food! Absolutely disgusting! I took pictures of the food and the hair I found. I also photographed my own hair for comparison because the hair found in my meal was noticeably different. To make matters worse, my stomach has been upset ever since eating there. I can't say for certain what caused it, but it certainly adds to my frustration with this experience. I don't go out to eat expecting perfection, but I do expect food that is fresh, properly prepared, and served with basic standards of cleanliness. Between the undercooked vegetables, questionable appearance of the eggs, dry turkey sausage, and hair in my food, this was an extremely disappointing experience. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I would not recommend this restaurant or return for another meal.

It's in Flossmoor, IL. I'm so happy to do this review on them. We went on a Tuesday and although I had in mind what I wanted to order from the regular menu, we arrived while their Happy Hour was still going on so we decided to take advantage of their tacos for Taco Tuesday and their guacamole. The guac and chips came out first. It looked so fresh and when I tasted it, the angels were singing! Delicious. Then came the tacos - I was surprised how big they were, filled up with good stuff. I had the steak and the chicken. Both were good but I liked the steak best. I had had a challenging workday so I treated myself to the Lemondrop Flight as I love lemondrop martinis. You can pick three from the flavors of original, passion fruit, watermelon, mango and strawberry. The presentation is beautiful in what they bring it in. Toya, one of the owners made it herself and she is definitely a good at making drinks. I enjoyed them immensely. This place is a total VIBE - small, intimate and cozy. They play R&B that takes you back to the 80s and 90s - we were thoroughly enjoying it. Many come in and sit at the bar where there are two large screen TVs. They also have a small outdoor seating when the weather is nice. We were really enjoying our time there. We had the best wait staff - Chris was super cool, engaging and just plain nice. He was informing us of all the events they have there which piqued my interest. Toya also came over and talked with us and I complimented her on the restaurant and promised her that I would definitely be back and would bring others. I have already posted about them on social media and many of my friends are planning on seeing what they offer. For dessert, I ordered the Turtle Cheesecake. I'm kind of a cheesecake snob because my late Mother made the best cheesecake. The presentation of their cheesecake was gorgeous. The caramel drizzle and nuts on it was inviting. One bite and I was SOLD! I was too full to eat the entire big slice they gave me so I worked on it some more when I got home. This place opened in 2023. I wish them the best because they definitely have something there. I can't wait to come back there, it's a place to come, relax, eat good food and enjoy the positive environment that there. Check out their weekly events, brunch and live entertainment on Saturdays. Thank you Poppin' Corks, A+!!

There was no wait, so I was seated right away while I waited for the rest of my group. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, and she did a great job explaining the specials. Drinks: We ordered the giant margarita flight, which was on special for around $125, and we actually ended up getting TWO! For a group of seven, I thought it was well worth it. The drinks were fun, definitely made for sharing, and added to the whole experience. Cajun Fried Shrimp: This was my favorite thing I ordered. The shrimp were crispy, flavorful, and that sauce was GOOD. I honestly should have just stuck with the appetizer because I would absolutely order these again. Cajun Seafood Pasta: This one was just okay for me. It had plenty of seafood and a generous portion, but it also had cauliflower, broccoli, and carrots, which I personally don't like. Had I realized how much they would affect the dish for me, I would've asked to have them removed. My other issue was that the shrimp in the pasta still had the tails on. With an appetizer like the fried shrimp, that's no problem, but in pasta it made eating the dish more work than it needed to be. I kept having to stop and remove shrimp tails while trying to eat my pasta. I probably wouldn't order this particular dish again. Atmosphere: This is definitely a place to come when you want music, drinks, food, and a GOOD TIME. The music creates a lively atmosphere, so I wouldn't necessarily choose it for a quiet dinner where you're trying to have deep conversations. But for a celebration, girls' night, coworkers getting together, or just going out to have fun? Absolutely. Service was good throughout our visit, parking was easy, and our group had a great time together. Overall: 4/5 I'd definitely return, but next time I'm getting those Cajun Fried Shrimp again and exploring something different for my entrée!
