Delicious Food, Disappointing Service…read more
As someone who genuinely wants to support Black-owned businesses, experiences like this are especially disappointing. I believe in supporting our own, celebrating our businesses, and seeing them thrive. However, customer service is a critical part of that success, and unfortunately, this experience fell short.
Upon arrival at Flossmoor Social, there was no one at the hostess station to greet or seat us. After being seated, we waited over 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged our table. Eventually, a gentleman I believe was part of management came over and took our orders. He then sent a waitress to assist us for the remainder of our visit, but the service continued to be lackluster. She checked on us only twice, while other staff members, including the bartender, brought our food and drinks.
Toward the end of our visit, my mother ordered another martini, which was forgotten until we reminded the staff. I also requested a mocktail that they were unable to make because they did not have the necessary ingredients.
We also noticed that staff members appeared to be moving between tables without clearly defined sections or consistent responsibility for guests. From our perspective, the service seemed disorganized, and we often felt as though no one person was truly ensuring that our table was taken care of.
To be clear, the food was delicious. Unfortunately, great food alone cannot make up for a lack of attentive and consistent customer service.
What makes this experience particularly frustrating is that I want to support Black-owned establishments. I want to see our businesses succeed, grow, and become places we can proudly recommend. But I have encountered too many experiences where customer service falls short, and it is discouraging because hospitality should be just as much of a priority as the food, atmosphere, and overall concept.
This is not about expecting perfection. It is about expecting guests to be acknowledged, orders to be remembered, and customers to feel welcomed and valued. Flossmoor Social has the potential to offer a wonderful dining experience, but the service needs significant improvement to match the quality of its food.
I hope management takes this feedback constructively because I would love to see the establishment succeed. Supporting a business should not mean overlooking areas where improvement is needed. We can support our own and still hold our businesses to a standard of excellence.
