I waited a while to place this review for a few reasons. For starters, this restaurant is in my neighborhood, and I wanted to give it a good fighting chance. Matteson needed a win with places to eat. Though it is take- out, I was confident that due to it being BBQ (and a popular name was attached), it was destined to be a winner winner, rib tip dinner. I could speak on the slow opening and the place having ribs and then no ribs on the menu at all. NOPE. Because sometimes, new places need a chance to work things out. LET's TALK ABOUT IT ALL! I know what you wanna hear... "WHAT IS THE MEAT LIKE!?!" lol I have ordered here 5 times, just to be certain what I would say when I decided to review this place. First time I placed an order, I almost cried. It was like I wanted some bbq, and I needed it to be good. I needed it to be all I ever wanted and needed and in my back yard. I pinched myself to make sure it was real! lol Issue: I wasn't a HUGE fan of the sauce. But I could live with that, as it wasn't HORRIBLE. Portion size was nice, meat tender. I was able to have leftovers, for like $21 bucks. Solid win! But did I mention the FRIED CHICKEN WINGS!? I promise, someone's auntie is in the kitchen cooking them and she isn't playing around in there! No sauce needed. Plain is yum! Fresh, crispy, and down right YES AND AMEN!!! Second time I placed and order, majority of the meat was sketchy. The pieces were hard to chew, and welp...what more could be done. I tried to eat it as best I could. Majority of it was tossed in the trash. Did I get more chicken wings you ask? OF COURSE I DID!! DELICIOUSNESS! lol Now, one might ask, why did you return a third time? Reasons: Its in Matteson, I live in Matteson, I wanted BBQ, the price is nice, the wait times aren't HORRIBLE AT ALL, and its pretty smooth sailing. Pay online or via electronic payment inside...No hiccups there. And ITS IN MY VILLAGE. lol I knew there was improvement on the horizon. Every time I went after the second time, was deliciousness. I didn't have any hard pieces. I was even able to warm the meat up the following day and it was still as good as the first time. Have I mentioned the CHICKEN WINGSSSSSSSS!??? Look! I was so excited to hear that Wilma's flagship restaurant in downtown Chicago opened an express Wilma's in Matteson. Unfortunately, the Matteson location is NOT living up to the excellent, delicious cooking as offered at the downtown location. Here is an overview of my experience: Customer service : 9 out of 10 Rib Tips: 9 out of 10, meaty, seasoned and tender BBQ sauce: Amazing, 9 out of 10 Chicken Wings: 5 out of 10, over cooked and lacked seasoning Links: 5 out of 10, overcooked/dry and seasoning was too spicy French fries: 5 out of 10, not fresh The location is small. It's not a place where you would sit down and eat. The prices were reasonable. My three star rating is based strictly on the rib tips and the customer service. I will give them a couple of months to get the kinks out of things and hopefully the food will improve. read more

I was waiting for my orders, yes orders and they gave my food to someone else who did not have the receipt. So I'm sitting and waiting now again, and I ask for the manager. It's the same person who tecognoze they made the mistake of giving my food to Someone else I'm asking how when the person did not have the receipt for which they take when your food is ready and they text Your phone to let you know the food order is ready I never recieved that text I said y'all could not even offer me a cookie, pop or something for my time. This is my second time eating at Wilma's in Matteson, the first time, the chicken was seasoned to perfection and crisp. The rib tips were just ok, they need to be wrapped to make them more tender. Today's order, heavy handed on the season salt and not crispy, rather soggy I ordered online. I've never seen a BBQ spot charge for sauce - I'm not speaking about extra sauce either. I would just like to share my unpleasant experience last night at the Matteson express location that needs to be addressed. I was not going to do this on social media, but because i was ignored after reaching out twice via email and not receiving any type of response I will address it here. I came into the Matteson location on August 27, 2025 and placed my order. The lady asked for my phone number which I provided. I had people waiting in the car so I asked " may I ask a estimated time frame for my order" and she replied "you will get a text when it is ready". I was taken aback by her response but didn't say anything I just left out. When I got to the car I noticed I forgot to say sauce on the side because I have to monitor my sodium intake so I ran back in and asked "Is it too late to request no sauce on my food, if so its my fault because i should have said something when i ordered" and the gentleman that was standing there did ask the cook and it was not too late so I was very appreciative of that. i went back to the car and once 9pm came i went back in because I saw people that came after me going back in and coming out with their food and I still had not received a text. I decided to go in and inquire. The young lady working the counter saw me and I said "I never received a text" and she said "oh well I must have wrote your phone number down the wrong number". She didnt apologize nothing but furthermore that response was totally unacceptable. I would have been happy with an apology at least she could have said my apologies I must have written the phone number down incorrectly. But anyways I then left got in the car and I decided to check my order to make sure I got my sauce on the side and sure enough I didn't. So I went back in with my order and she said " What you want now?" I said I didn't get my sauce on the side. I do not know if the young lady at the counter may have me mistaken for someone else she had a prior issue with but this was my first and dont want it to necessarily be my last visit to the Matteson express location as it closer from my home as opposed to driving to Dolton and/or paying extra to have it delivered. Overall the food was good the wings could have been fried a tad bit longer as it was hard to pull apart but I just threw them in the oven so no complaints there but that ladys customer service definitely needs to be addressed. I do not have a problem waiting for food especially if it taste good and of good quality.At the Dolton location my wait time has never been less than 1 hour but the food is excellent fresh and worth the wait. At least Dolton location does give an estimated time and they have not failed me yet. read more
