Food is always great but some of the staff are just rude. Especially the one chick who is always taking orders. I don't know what her problem is but you can be super nice and she acts like your being there is an annoyance. I've definitely limited my visits because of it. Randomly came upon this place after having cravings for some good BBQ. This little gem is definitely worth trying! It's parking lot accessible for a few parking spots available in front of the restaurant. It's little seating outside and in the foyer after placing your order. The ambiance is simple but nice, & most importantly clean! Prices are also very reasonable and get a good portion for the price you pay. Unto the food! Everything is served fresh, & hot. Food is prepped per order which is definitely a plus. I tried the medium rib tips which came with a side & coleslaw, at the time they didn't have coleslaw so you can replace it with another item. I'm not a big fan of everyone's macaroni but this here was bomb!! &, the baked beans were bomb as well. Now these rib tips are definitely the staple! Juicy, flavorful, tender & fye! The bbq sauce is not too overpowering but gives that extra kick. Customer service was friendly, & straight to the point which I personally like. I waited no more than 5 minutes & was out the door. A very dear friend of mine recently tried this establishment, and although I've known for years that he doesn't eat pork, I decided to try this "BBQ Shack" because he gave the chicken a 9, and the food overall an 8.5, on a scale of 10. My friend THANK YOU and I concur with your assessment, though I'd rate Nine One One BBQ Shack a 9 out of 10 due to the EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE. The chicken was off the charts good; tender and moist, even the white meat! I really like the Mac and cheese also. Sauce yes, but the fries not so much -- seemed like fake potatoes. The corn is sweet and tender, but still has a crunch. The beans Beans were well seasoned. The Coleslaw seemed prepared in-house--very well seasoned, and they were quite delicious. The rib tips are a bit salty, tender and not overly fatty. The ribs were surprisingly delectable. Like most take out establishments, the food needs to be warmed to be at its best. I was in Chicago from Texas Jan 2024 visiting family members and yes it was cold, got hungry. I happened to be browsing social media saw this placed so I grabbed my sister we went to check it out passed it by the first time turned around parked walked in we were greeted by the owner he explained what he had and how he cook his food for the day. So we tried the chicken and chopped brisket along with the sides and let me tell you it was delicious. I wanted ribs but he was out we showed up a hour before closing (early bird gets the worm). Everything on their menu is excellent. I have eaten all the entrees and never had a bad meal at this restaurant. My only issue is that they run out of everything by 5:30 -6pm. That just tells me you how good this BBQ place is! Great service with nice people. First thing is I respect that their name honors first responders, I thought the name had something to do with the sauce being spicy lol I just want to say this food is quality. I've never had tips so tender before, this isn't just good quality food but the way is cooked is a huge factor! The food itself is 10/10, one thing that cushy me off guard was how good the spaghetti was. Amazing!! My only critique is to have option in sauces, their sauce was good but I've had better. Some other places have mild, mix, hot, etc. they only add a little bit of sauce and that sometimes can make the tips dry but I asked for extra sauce and they gave me a cup. The price for the large is $17 and one super hungry person can finish that or it can feed 2 people. Their sides are really good and the food overall is amazing! We were in the community and stop at Nine One One BBQ Shack. The place is right on the corner. The space is very clean and the staff is friendly. The food will keep you coming back. We have heard about the coming back for more. Yes more of the Mac and cheese that is like what your mother made. The collard green has favor. They use smoke turkey in the recipe. Food is consistently delish, service is always excellent, and the space is super cute. I believe the true test of good bar bq is being able to eat it naked (sans sauce) and it still make your eyes roll! I also love their mac n cheese (never dry) and greens. My only gripe is that I think corn bread should be included with the meal and especially greens. Be mindful that they are open until they sell out. Last week I called at 3 p.m. on Friday and when I arrived at 4:30 p.m. they had sold out for the evening. Nevertheless, my food was fresh and delicious as always! I loooove the BBQ from here. This "Black Owned" business knows how to do barbeque. I've had take out from here several times and the flavors and quality of the food is consistently delicious as the first time I've tried the food. When I moved to the Chicago area, I could not find great brisket and I certainly couldn't find Kansas City barbecue sauce. I watched a PBS show and found a place in Midlothian. Now, I have found my spot closer to home. I got the smoked meat combo: brisket, pulled pork, chicken and greens. For about $26.00 including tax, I have three servings of deliciousness. Rib tips & ribs: SUPER tender, juicy, tasty, perfectly seasoned and not drenched in sauce, because you don't need it. Perfection! They sell the ribs in full and half slab and 3 ribs. The tips come in small medium large orders. If you can't finish your order in one sitting and want to save the rest for another time, freeze it! Yes, it will still be good later! Sides: I've tried their yams, cole slaw, Mac n cheese, and jalapeño cornbread. They're all fantastic! Price point is just right. They don't offer combo meals but all orders come with one side of your choice and a small coleslaw. Wherever you are, if you love St. Louis style ribs, travel for this one. I decided to go to Nine One One today and called in my order at 2:09pm. I was told that there was a wait on the chicken, as I ordered the two can eat meal,which was fine. When I arrived at 3:10, I had to wait an HOUR as I watched them service at least 12-15 people then yell an announcement that there were no greens, I figured that this didn't apply to me as I had ordered over an hour ago. When they finally called my order, they'd put bbq sauce all over the food which I requested to be put on the side. Then I had to wait as they remade my order and substituted spaghetti for the greens. After reading about this restaurant on my neighborhood app I decided to drive the almost 35 minutes to go there and witness for myself. Well, four words later ... I Am A Believer! I purchased the hot link and rib tip combo with mac and cheese and the rib and half chicken combo with greens and the half slab of baby back ribs. They made our Christmas Eve. The food was outstanding we had ribs, chicken, pulled pork, brisket and hot links. For the sides sweet potatoes, baked beans, baked Mac and cheese and cornbrea. No one went away hungry we got enough to feed 12 and had a lot left for left overs. If you are having a par or just want to have lunch all of their food is out of this world. Visited this restaurant today around 12:30pm placed my regular order and wanted a side of spaghetti. The young lady said that they didn't have the side ready at the time but, it would take 45 min. So, I passed on getting the side. But, the young lady overheard another customer talking with a cashier and said it was only 20 min and told me so I ordered a large spaghetti. Prior, to me getting my order minus the spaghetti it didn't take long. But, in the process of me getting and paying she told me the spaghetti would take an additional 10 min. So, I stepped outside waiting... It was 1:50pm when I noticed another customer in front of me who was also waiting for spaghetti went in and got her side and was leaving. That's when I walked in to see if my side was ready. Upon walking in, it was one customer at the register so I stood to the side waiting to be serviced. After about a minute later a caucasian male customer came in stood on the side of me. The owner walked up to the second register and waved for the man to be serviced over looking me who was also, in line to be serviced. Both customers in front received and paid for there food and left. I was left by myself in the restaurant with still no acknowledgement after 10 seconds. They owner finally spoke saying to the cashier, "what she waiting on. Cause, she has her arms folded like she ready to fight." The cashier said, "oh the spaghetti." So the owner went to prepare my spaghetti and the owner handed me my bag and said, "have a nice day." My response to him was have a nice day also. ( note: I did have a mask on covering face. So, he might not have heard me) The owner became aggressive after not hearing my response and yelled, " I said have a nice day!! Be nice!!" I said, "sir have a nice day and walked out." This review is not about the quality of food but, the quality of service. I've patronized this facility a few times a month and to be honest you always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Turn the other cheek. Give people a second chance but, in this case I'm finished with this place. You miss treat your staff and your customers. We are not going to add the verbal abuse and harshness to staff of telling them to shut up or be quite we got this when clearly she was just trying to inform you of a patron not being serviced. This is by far one of the nicest Barbbeque joints on the south side! I live in Beverly and get tired of the long waits at places like I57 Ribhouse or Chicago Pit Stop. 911 is a place that is ran efficiently, nice POLITE staff, abd the food is great! I love the tender brisket and Mac and cheese. The sauce is pretty good but could be a bit smokeier. I did go late a few times and they sold out for the day but other than that this is a great spot with small yet feasible outdoor dining. read more
