Comparable to Popeyes fried chicken, but still juicier. Beware of ordering on DoorDash because the prices are about $4-5 more than ordering in person with the same wait time.

I visited the Chicago Chicken Coop a few weeks ago on a Saturday night, and it was about 5 customers so they were pretty busy. The store was clean and tidy. The customer service was average. Normally Fried Chicken restaurants have mean and rude cahiers that roll their eyes at you, but the cashiers here did seem to have some manners. The chicken was cooked fresh, seasoned well, and it was good! On the other hand, the Mild Sauce was watery and lacked flavor. It was a turn off. The fries were ample. The coleslaw side is very small. They offer specials on certain days. Checkout the pictures that I posted to see the flyer.

I hate paying for what for someone 'felt like doing', instead of what I requested :-( Out of the 8 times I've received food from Chicken Coop my order has been correct 15% of the time!!!!! There used to be a wait on food, because it was REALLY COOKED FRESH. However now they're able to get orders out fast because they RE-FRY the protein. Request my fries FRIED HARD every time, ALWAYS GET SOFT, HALF COOKED POTATOES. Two stars because order takers dont give attitude. (Though I had to literally, no exaggeration, repeat my order at least 5x one evening) If you dont like it why so many visits? Because my bf's son requests it, as a result of the recent Harolds Chicken Shacks closing down (83rd Ashland). New Management, Cook, Owner, whatever is necessary to PROVIDE BETTER PRODUCT/ FOOD!

    The expired German Chocolate Cake.

Hey check the dates on the cakes. I just alerted the cashier that the German Chocolate Cake date needed to be check. She said I just put those in there they expire on Feb 14, 22. When I told her it expired on Jan 8, she mumbled something and went back to the phone. She told someone on the phone these people irritate me. This app. will not let my post the picture of the case of cakes. I waited for my food about another 6 minutes and She NEVER once even check the case to remove it. She handed me my slice of Yellow Cake and my food. Pray my Chicken, Shrimps and Cat Fish is fresh! I was not loud or nasty when I notified her about the German Chocolate Cake. The cashier with the Red knit head net on her head should be trained on how to deal with customers better. The one was for customer service Review of food: Shrimps were a just a little to salty, the chicken and fries were a little on the hard side but the fish was good. Upon going back to rate the food it allowed me to add the picture. Food review four stars

This black owned business has above average standing room in the waiting area, two TVs and an ATM with a good amount of seats/benches. Seems like it might've been an old chinese food joint with a few tables, but they opted for a pure takeout experience (which is unfortunately the trend nowadays.) Since it was my first time I thought I'd try both the fish and chicken combo along with the dirty rice. The total came out to be $24 with the wait being about 15 minutes. The staff overall were nice.      After leaving the place and checking the food. I realized that the combo dinner didn't contain a roll and coleslaw like advertised which was kind of disappointing. It did have the fries though. The requested lemon pepper was there, but they also seasoned the chicken/catfish with garlic powder, salt and parsley which is fine. Everything was fried hard, but not dry which creates the perfect pleasurable crunch. The chicken and fish tasted better than a lot of the restaurants in the area with the fish having a lightness to the breading that's sorely missed. Some of the chicken was weirdly tough though as if it was slightly undercooked.      Speaking of misses we have to talk about the dirty rice. Dirty rice is one of those dishes that seems like it either is absolute perfection or an abomination with no in-between. This unfortunately falls into the latter with it not only looking boring with all brown notes, but the initial taste as well as texture being an off putting creamy rancid trip to flavor hell. After a just a few bites my stomach turned which does not bode well for this dish. I have no idea what went wrong here, but it seems like it may have been sitting out too long. Even the smell was a bit rancid. At least it has a good ratio of ground beef to rice which a lot of places skimp on. They also attempted to add in some vegetables like peppers although they are barely noticeable.       Overall Surf's up is a good spot with friendly staff, decent prices, but some issues with quality. My advice is to make sure the cooking temps are correct and consistent. Definitely make sure if food is sitting idle, that it is kept at the mandatory minimum of 140 degrees farenheit to avoid it going rancid so quickly. Also, double check the orders before sending them out or edit the menu if it is outdated.

I had placed many online orders for pick-up on my 30min lunch break, to ensure I had proper time to drive to, pick up my food, and quickly drive back from the restaurant. After a few pick-ups took around 20mins after promised time, I was pretty upset. I was told they only start making food once the person is there to pick it up, so I asked what's the point of placing an order online and receiving a pick-up time, when the food only starts to get made once you're at the restaurant to pick up? That's when the owner stepped in (My family and I have had many pleasant convos with him before at the old location), turned red, bunched up his face, and legit yelled at me "What do you expect? Do you want your fries to be cold or do you want them fresh?" (I was taken aback, and responded "I expect my order to be ready at the time indicated"). He told me I could go elsewhere. I get it. I was receiving consistently poor service and was upset when I asked the cashier about timing, so he stepped in to defend his worker. What I don't get is how you can tell a customer to go somewhere else when they're expecting their food at the time promised (or at least within 5 mins...I'm not THAT picky). Perhaps my expectations are too high?

On multiple visits,…read morethe food has been served cold, which makes it seem like orders are either being cooked all at once and sitting too long or possibly being reheated instead of prepared fresh. What concerns me even more is the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I personally observed rats around the soda machine area, and it appeared that staff were trying to keep customers from noticing. That is a serious health concern and something that should never happen in a place serving food to the public. When customers try to address these issues, it's very difficult to get any response from management. The manager never seems to come to the phone or speak directly with customers about complaints, which is frustrating when people are simply asking for accountability and better service. The community in Evergreen Park spends hard-earned money at this establishment, and we deserve fresh food, clean facilities, and respectful customer service. I hope the owners take these concerns seriously and address the food quality, cleanliness, and management communication immediately. If these issues are not corrected, I believe a proper health inspection should be conducted to ensure the restaurant is meeting basic safety standards.

We came in and waited to be greeted by the hostess. Maybe 10 minutes passed and 2-3 other groups also came in before we saw the hostess and she had the sourest attitude I've seen that wasn't a snotty teenager arguing with their mom. The tables were so close together and booths tight that multiple groups had to adjust chairs or add chairs to a booth to be able to fit their group of 4 comfortably. Tables were left dirty & covered with dishes - two tables we're left uncleared for the entire 2+ hours we were there until the hostess with the horrific attitude cleared one glass at a time with a truly horrible look on her face. At one point when the hostess was walking back to the front from the kitchen, a young child (maybe 3-4) was politely walking to her table and the hostess said something to the effect of "get out of my way" - to a toddler, behaving perfectly reasonably and the hostess wasn't even carrying anything that might topple over. Our waitress was not much better than the hostess. While she was mostly pleasant, after 45 minutes we had to flag her down to ask where our appetizer was and she apologized before bringing it out 10 minutes or so later. It wasn't so busy that the kitchen was behind - I think she just forgot to put the order in or the kitchen forgot to fire it. We had placed our dinner order at the same time, and that came out shortly after the appetizer for 3 of the 4 of us. The 4th member of the party had to wait 10 minutes or so for her chicken wrap to come out. Flagging down our waitress for the check was also a challenge. She would disappear for long stretches of time. Service was truly appalling and we were there for over 2.5 hours for what we had expected would be a quick and delicious dinner. I won't go back.
