My husband and I came in for breakfast Sunday @ 830a. The restaurant only hade a few people. The waitress was nice but disappeared often for long periods and never came back to refill our coffee during breakfast. The Rooster had so many great reviews however fell flat for us. Considering so little customers seated, breakfast took a very long time to come out. The pancakes were heavy and didn't come with anything so hubby ordered Al la cart eggs and smoked sausage aka is kielbasa which he didn't know prior to ordering. I ordered the southern sunrise, eggs were good so was the bacon nice and crispy, cheesy grits were just ok not great and the biscuits was a little heavy. All the butter was frozen solid so not easy to put on pancakes & biscuit. Mediocre at best and NOT worth the price we paid for breakfast. We wouldn't return. read more

We have been to red rooster a number of times and have enjoyed ourselves. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The parking lot is ample. Although the restaurant space is two different restaurants, We have never seen them operate at the same time. Service has always been good. One of my favorite meals is the fiesta breakfast bowl. Revisited this place since I was home for the holidays, absolutely love supporting and happy they are still up and running and even expanded. Food still seem to be impressive considering the crowd. I tried out the French toast breakfast. The French toast was the actually pretty good and not soggy at all! Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed in the cheese grits, it tasted like regular craft cheese was added and I just feel like there are a lot of other cheese options available so I did not eat the grits, everything else was great, service was great and I look forward to checking them out again when I am back home!! :-) read more

I wanted to order something unique to local cuisine, and selected the Shrimp and Grits ($14.95). Described on the menu as a Low Country Classic, this dish is a stew of shrimp, Cajun smoked sausage, bacon, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, spices. and a touch of cream, served over cheesy grits. The dish was AMAZING! The flavors were complex, with some bite from the spices. I'm going to try to recreate this at home! (Rating: 5/5). Being St. Patrick's Day, my husband ordered "Green Eggs and Ham" ($12.95). That dish featured two English Muffins, topped with smoked ham, creamy spinach, two poached eggs, vine-ripened tomatoes, and a rich Hollandaise sauce. It was served with a side of fresh fruit. My husband said that it was good, but not exceptional. Jokingly, he laughed that he expected the eggs to be dyed green given the dish's name and March 17th date! (Rating: 3/5). Our friend selected the Mediterranean Breakfast Sandwich ($12.95). This sandwich featured baby spinach, sliced tomatoes, over-medium eggs, crispy bacon, Gruyère cheese, and basil pesto mayo on a toasted oatmeal roll. This too was served with a side of fresh fruit. (I didn't get a rating from our friend but he seemed to enjoy his breakfast). Service was good. The restaurant was comfortable. Parking was free and plentiful. So delicious! We sat outdoors, and the amount of people going in for breakfast/brunch was crazy! This is definitely a hot spot for locals to grab food, and I see why. To start, we were given jalapeño cornbread. YUM. And I ordered a guava mimosa, so delish. Now to our main entrees- the cheese grits are probably the best cheese grits I've ever had. I kid you not ! The French toast breakfast, woah. I swapped out cheddar and added Gruyère cheese and onions in my scrambled eggs, highly recommend. Perfect French toast The fiesta breakfast bowl was delicious. This is THE brunch spot. We had our pup with us, and requested outdoor seating. Excellent coffee and pastries. My coffee to go was light-roasted (overroasting is all too common, in my opinion). I got a small! Try finding a small in Starbucks where sizes range from Large, Huge, and Gigantic. 8-10 ounces is plenty! My mushroom-cheddar croissant was in a class by itself. The best savory croissant I've ever tried bar none. The mushrooms were cooked down to a dense flavorful filling, full of umami and seasoned with thyme and other spices. Light on the cheddar with nicely browned cheese coming out the ends. And not skimpy on the filling!. The dough itself may not quite live up to my croissant ideal (not quite flaky and crumbly enough) but came close. It was definitely not brioche-like, my chief complaint about bad croissants. The pecan bar was also excellent. Think pecan pie in square shape. Not overly sweet and sticky, a substantial shortbread crust, and lots of pecans with so much flavor they must have been pre-toasted. I had half which was plenty; the other half later today. Lots of breakfast sandwiches and bistro fare which I didn't get to try. The interior doesn't have that homey feel that is my coffee shop ideal - more like a retail store with seating - but it was comfortable enough. And the employees were welcoming, friendly, and patient as I surveyed the large selection deciding what to buy. Nothing like this exists near me, sadly. Maybe I'll have to move. read more

It was a rainy Saturday morning when we were chilling at the house and were getting hungry, and noticing the lack of breakfast foods in the fridge, we decided to go to Waffle House. So 5 minutes after experiencing the 60° weather, clanging of dishes and people yelling, we were back in the truck looking for somewhere else to eat. That somewhere else ended up being Red Rooster and man am I glad we went there. The restaurant is currently being renovated, so they are doing breakfast service in the seafood restaurant they share the building with. This was no big deal, however, and I'm looking forward to coming back one night for the seafood. I don't remember what Kat ordered, but she did enjoy it. I had a dish called old McDonald, which was basically ciabatta bread eggs in a basket with bacon, ham and cheese. This was so amazing. All told, we got in & out for about 35 bucks, which is only a little bit more than what Waffle House would have charged us, and we did well with the better experience. I think if we went back we would just get shrimp and grits though, because the catfish is so greasy. The Cuban was average. I probably wouldn't order it again. The service was great. Every time we have tried to come here there is always a 30-60 minute wait on the weekends. Finally I got a chance to try it and I cannot sing the praises of this place enough. Easily one of the best places for brunch in all of Beaufort. This is a southern home cooking style place with a lot of soul food, and you can taste the soul in every bite. I couldn't stop eating and even when I was full I didn't want to stop! We started with the Rooster Nachos. Hand made chips covered in bacon, cheese, and ranch. Every bite was perfect. The chips really were hand made and not out of a bag. I got the Hey Y'all burger and fries. Shoestring fries and a burger with pepper jack and a fried green tomato and hand made house 1000 island sauce. It was great. Every bite was wonderful and the fried green tomato was the icing on the cake so to speak. Wife got the Grandmas Biscuits and Gravy. A recipe passed down through three generations, and it was the highlight of the meal. Smooth fluffy biscuits that were soft and warm and not too thick or dry. The gravy was a symphony of flavor, seasoned perfectly with lots of sausage and not too much pepper. We both agreed to come back and try more soon! Absolutely 5 stars. The crab cake beni was Aces. We paid $14 for a crab cake at another place which was disgusting. These cakes were amazing and the whole dish was like $12.95 or something. Topped with tomato, avocado, crab cake pouched egg and hollandaise. They have a good say e, well balanced creamy and tart - many places make an all creamy sauce and I'm like "what's the point of flavorless egg-butter?" Well done guys! Really disappointed this morning. Traveling with my wife for mini vacation and was really looking forward to a great breakfast. Seeing the reviews on Yelp we thought it was a home run. It wasn't. It took over 40 minutes to get our food AFTER ordering. When it arrived, it was cold. The waitress was very nice and apologetic and did a good job of serving. It could have been a great meal if it were hot and a reasonable wait. I would give them one more chance because the flavors were good, but would really hope for a different outcome. They offered to deduct our bill five dollars. I thought that was not nearly appropriate enough.. Building is old and rundown ceiling tiles are dirty. read more

It was a Sunday late morning so there was a wait. Which was excepted. We chose first available and we were seated outside. It was a breezy day so we didn't mind. I immediately ordered a coconut latte. It was so good I ordered two! They had so many flavors to choose from! Coconut is my love language, so I couldn't choose anything else. I went basic with my breakfast but it was good! It was plenty of food and delicious! The biscuit was superb. The value you get at Red Rooster is unmatched. The service was slow though. For two people and for what we ordered we waited close to an hour for our food. Then when we asked for our checks it took a good fifteen minutes to get those. I am not sure if they were short staffed. I wouldn't let that deter me going back though. There is so many options on the menu that look appetizing! read more

Anytime I'm in Savannah, I make sure to drive 1 hour away to Red Rooster Cafe for their AMAZING biscuits and gravy. We've come 3 times now, and it is always consistently delicious! The French toast is great, crunchy and drenched in syrup. For my go to breakfast, I get the Southern Sunrise - two eggs, pecan wood smoked bacon, cheesy grits, and a biscuit. My husband got the crab cake eggs benedict and he said it was great as well. We also tried the nachos with pulled pork, and they were great. My wife order the salad and I had the sandwich. My wife's salad was chock full of craisins, pears, pecans, bacon bits and feta cheese! She devoured it and enjoyed every morsel! I on the other hand do not enjoy the "Gobbler". Reading the components of the sandwich was what drew me to order it. However, the end product was underwhelming compared to the description of its parts. Although it was great marketing, none of the components of the sandwich was anything special. In fact, the sandwich was rather bland and dull. An afterthought more so than an interpretation of the sandwich The chips were nothing special. I e actually tasted better chips from a bag. The coffee was just alright. So why 3 stars? Because this was our first and only meal there. And we were both split on our impression of the food we ate. Wow! I took my mom here who was visiting from california. We went to the holiday boat parade on the water and drove out of downtown to find this gem of a place! The food was superb! The daily fish salmon special and oyster soup was A+! Mom loved it! For me I ordered the all sea boil platter and it was the best boil platter I have had from Hilton head to Charleston SC and back! Yum yum! The restaurant was clean - bathrooms were clean and the service was amazing. Sophia was fun and friendly. Stopped here for breakfast on our way to Charleston. The food was above average and good. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. Our service was fantastic as everyone was very polite and in good spirits. Sophia was our server and she was so good to us. She definitely shows her talent waiting on us and the tables around. One of the best experiences we have had in a long time. Part of the restaurant was being remodeled which wasn't an issue. The bathrooms were terrible otherwise I'd have left 5 stars.
