I am absolutely horrified by how this establishment treated my best friend and her family. They sat for 20 minutes without anyone even taking a drink order. When they politely asked for their "waitress," they were actually kicked out of the restaurant ALONG WITH HER DISABLED TODDLER, simply because they didn't use the term "server." The complete lack of professionalism, basic human decency, and customer service here is appalling. This isn't just a case of bad service; it is a complete failure of basic human respect. Kicking out a family with a disabled child because of a harmless word choice is an abusive power trip, plain and simple. Do not give these people a single dime. There are plenty of other welcoming places to visit in Beaufort. read more

Something has changed at the Blackstone Cafe, and it is not good. My husband and I haven't been to Beaufort Water Festival for a couple years but eating breakfast at the Blackstone Cafe had always been one of the highlights of our visit. Today I ordered the eggs benedict with crabmeat with potatoes as I always have in the past. Absolutely disappointing - the English muffin was hard/toasted to long, the egg was over cooked/yolk should be lightly poached, the crab cake was dry not moist, and the hollandaise sauce was yellow as it should be. Unfortunately, the breakfast lacked flavor and was cold. I was so upset even tearful and only ate the dry crab cake and left the rest. Husband had pancakes and sausage they were just okay. It should not be too much to expect coffee refills when the cup is empty with cup placed at edge of table. To be fair but no excuses ... Maybe it was a bad day for the kitchen staff - does that change the goal to serve great food. Maybe one waitress/server for upstairs is not enough - management are you aware. Taking care of the customer used to be number one. Something has changed at the Blackstone Cafe not just the black doors/windows at the front of the building very cold and unwelcoming. I am appalled to see the reviews in reference how staff have reacted to persons with disability to include the person with a protected service animal with legal official ID. Management, please educate the staff. In days gone by the Blackstone Cafe was a great place to enjoy a great meal. Management please be a leader in positive changes at the Blackstone Cafe. Our family had an experience at Blackstone'd Café that we will never forget -- unfortunately, not for good reasons. My mother is totally blind and has worked with service dogs from The Seeing Eye for over 30 years. She and my father approached the hostess to be seated, with her service dog clearly wearing identification. The hostess immediately told them they were not allowed to enter the restaurant with the dog. My mother calmly explained that the dog is a legally protected service animal and showed her official ID. Despite this, the hostess continued to refuse entry. After my father dialed the police to report the denial of access, the hostess returned and said the manager had now approved their entry (the manager never came out) -- but they would have to wait to be seated even though other patrons were being seated immediately. At that point, another patron who had overheard the entire exchange spoke up. She was visibly offended by what she had witnessed and graciously offered my parents her table as it was called. Her kindness was the bright spot in an otherwise upsetting situation. Once seated, our waitress was wonderful -- kind, attentive, and professional. The food was good as well. However, by then, the damage was done. What should have been a pleasant family meal became a stressful and emotional experience. Losing our appetite was inevitable after watching my mother be treated in a way that was not only hurtful, but unlawful. I hope management uses this experience as an opportunity to properly train staff on service animal laws and disability access. No family should have to endure what ours did just to enjoy a meal out. read more

Came here for lunch on a Friday and was not busy. Some people came after us and were seated, but left because no one came to take their order. Another party waited to be seated for several minutes. Our server was friendly and nice though. We preferred the Cajun shrimp and grits and a club sandwich. The sandwich was good sized. The shrimp and grits were fine, but nothing special. Decor was nice. We ate twice for brunch at this restaurant each time we stayed at The Beaufort Inn. The hotel gave breakfast voucher to use here and they serve a pretty good breakfast food I always ordered the veggies omelette and my husband always get the 2 eggs breakfast and a meat, he opted for bacon. The service was okay since this place always busy and the last time we ate there our server was manning the whole second floor so we know she did the best that she can to accommodate every table and our server often stop by to make sure we are doing good. The ambience of this place is like the regular breakfast joint with all the movie posters, flags from different colleges, police flag, etc. Just like regular little old town breakfast joint. This is a down-homey breakfast-lunch spot in the tiny downtown area of glorious Beaufort. Wasn't crazy about the country music they were piping in; however my omelet was the sort of omelet I would make, if I knew how to make an omelet, not those big fat ones you get in many breakfast places, which must cause French visitors to cry. Also, I am going to admit I wasn't crazy about the display of police-related patches and such on the wall. I'm guessing police eat free, though I don't know that to be the case. I just don't believe restaurants need to display their allegiance to law enforcement, particularly in a likely crime-free small town. This long-time Beaufort favorite changed hands not too long ago, if I recall. Sometimes, when that happens, things go south. This is not the case with Blackstone's! They've maintained EXCELLENT standards and delicious food. A few weekends ago, my husband and I were in town on a whim and decided to visit Blackstone's for breakfast. We were seated promptly, our server was pleasant, had excellent recommendations, and had perfect timing - neither too bothersome nor too neglectful. She was just right! My husband had a version of eggs Benedict with a fried green tomato and I had one of their breakfast bowls. The breakfast bowl was delicious! The portion was so large, I was afraid I wouldn't finish, but it was so delicious that I kept eating after I was full - delicious home fries, fluffy scrambled eggs, breakfast meats - all tasty and impossible to stop noshing on. My husband was extremely happy with the hollandaise for the eggs Benedict, as he's sometimes disappointed by a broken sauce. That's not the case here - the sauce was perfectly done and deliciously creamy and the egg was cooked to perfection as well. What's an eggs Benedict without that runny yolk? The food was perfect. The service was excellent. The coffee was great. The atmosphere was the same, delightful atmosphere I've loved for so many years. Blackstones is tucked down a side road in downtown Beaufort. It has an upstairs and downstairs dining area. When you enter, the restrooms are to your immediate right. Each time we have dined here we have had prompt service upon entering. We love the decor! There are flags from many colleges and universities, as well as the military branches, that adorn the walls. I have absolutely loved my crabcake eggs Benedict, and shrimp and grits that I have gotten before. My husband loves the traditional breakfast. Our most recent server was Colleen. She was polite and very knowledgeable regarding the menu. We love going on Sunday because that is when they offer the Benedict specials. If you are in the area, we definitely recommend stopping in! Had lunch here after Emma's golf cart tour. The guide steerd us somewhere else but this had good reviews and called to me. It was just right. The dining room is nothing special but there are banners and pennants from all different schools. We shared a delicious Hamburger patty and it was huge with some delicious fries and a very generous glass of diet coke that was quickly replenished. The server was nice and very professional. So enjoyed interacting with our server Colleen and the staff very smiley in accommodating. First time experience starting off with a late breakfast call it brunch. My cheese and grits Cajun style hit the spot. Got a little bit of a kick to it maybe with some old bay in there. Good sized portions (not too large not too small ...) and good ingredients. Not long cooked stewed grits so not extremely smooth - blended but yet really good. Sandy got a breakfast bowl; not sure if the menu mentioned it but it had a little bit of a Cajun taste to hers which was a surprise. The homemade biscuits to me are perfection; crisp on the outside without being hard and not extremely fluffy but yet tender-ish, perfectly fits my preferences. Just like most everything in downtown the structure has some decades on it and history. Plenty of pendants and flags, badges from all things: military police collegiates, scholarly. Just a really good down to earth vibe with definitely plenty of seats to accommodate which I assume at times is very busy and very populous clientele. We with our stay at Beaufort inn and get a $10 voucher each, So all together this was the perfect place to start our culinary experience in Beaufort South Carolina. Breakfast, late. read more

I was really hoping for a good southern breakfast here, especially since the reviews seemed decent. But our experience wasn't good. We arrived with our toddler and dog. We were walked around the outside of the building to get to the patio, because our dog wasn't allowed to walk through the building. That was fine and the hostess was friendly. The patio could have been really cute and really pleasant, but unfortunately the tables and chairs were all jumbled and everything was covered in a thick layer of pollen. No one bothered to straighten the chairs or even wipe down the table we were sitting at! The menu said the corned beef hash was homemade...it looked like canned hash...certainly nothing like what my corned beef hash looks like when I make it at home. It did not taste good. The waitress forgot to put in part of our order, she didn't bring syrup out for the pancakes and by the time she did bring it out, they were cold. The biscuits and gravy tasted like raw flour. And my son's biscuit was stone cold in the center. Not inclined to visit again. read more

The server apologized citing they had staffing issues in the kitchen, but she also forgot to bring our drinks or even offer a discount for waiting so long, and the restaurant wasn't at half capacity. For our entrees, we tried the French onion soup, but found the bread so mushy, it was inedible. We also tried the shrimp and grits and the Florentine omelet with hash browns. Still my favorite place to get a vegetable omelet - thin egg casing stuffed with sautéed zucchini, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and cheese. It's consistent in quality and preparation which is an anomaly for Beaufort's eateries. The English muffins and sour dough breads are a refreshing change from the standard white, wheat, and biscuit offerings. Food is always delivered hot and fresh and the servers are friendly and fun. I'm not a big fan of the atmosphere as it doesn't invoke a charming or comfortable experience. It's a good thing breakfast isn't a meal you linger over. If you like some crunch on your hash browns, ask for extra crispy. They will usually accommodate the request and the end result is worth it. read more

When we first came here in September 2023 it was incredible. The food was amazing, the wait wasn't too long, the sweet tea was amazing, best I've ever had. Easily my first 5 star review which I am very picky about giving out and save for only the best places. We have been back several times since we moved to Beaufort in March of 2024 and I am not sure what has been happening but the quality and speed of service has gone down quite a bit. Several times we have noticed people's conversations around us asking about why it's taking almost an hour for food to be brought out after they ordered it. Several times we have heard the wait staff complain about the kitchen being too slow or just messing around with the orders. According to some of the wait staff I overheard the kitchen likes to goof off as soon as the boss leaves. As far as us, my wife and I have also noticed a decline in the quality of the food. What used to be fast prompt service has become 45-60m waits and the last time I got a patty melt it came out dry and had grilled onions on it, for reference the patty melt is supposed to have grilled mushrooms only and i asked for those on the side. More recently I asked for a side of toast and got bread that was so lightly toasted it looked like it was fresh out the pack. Still the food is ok and the wait staff is courteous and looks after you well, but it's not great, which is why I have given it 3 stars. Right now it's just an average brunch place. There is nothing that really makes the food stand out above any other place nearby. The ambiance inside is nice though. Another note worth mentioning is I checked into here on yelp and was offered a free tea, coffee, or drink via the yelp app. It said to show the screen to an employee or the owner. I showed it to our waitress and they said they had never done anything like that before even asking another waitress who said the same, so the offer went unfulfilled. Anyways I'll be back in a few weeks to try again. I will update any changes. Update: we went back today and had brunch downstairs with Miss Carol as our waitress. What a wonderful experience compared to last time. The food was out fast. I think from the time we were sat to the time we left was maybe 30-45 mins. The food was wonderful and the sweet tea was delicious. She was there enough to keep the food and drinks going but not too much that it was annoying. It was the perfect level of service. We stumbled across this little gem looking for breakfast on our way out of town! I have to say initial impression was being greeted by some of the kindest people and we felt very at home just walking through the door. Food was great diner quality and we left full and happy. The eggs were perfectly cheesy and his French toast was excellent. Prices were good. Food came out hot and quick! We loved the feeling of nostalgia that surrounded the restaurant with all the flags. My boyfriend even found a flag of his high school in PA. Such a cool experience! Great pit stop on the way out of town... just for the service alone we will be back again soon! read more
