City Java & News is a cute little local coffee spot in the heart of Beaufort. For a small spot, it has an extensive menu with a decent selection of seasonal drinks. There are a few tables and stools inside to sit and enjoy your drink. The one staff member was super friendly in making a drink recommendation. The Whiteout (white mocha) drink hit the spot, being smooth without hints of bitterness. When I asked for some ice cubes, the barista was kind enough to provide some coffee ice cubes which were unique and enhanced the overall flavor profile of the drink. This is a cute little coffee shop located in the downtown Beaufort area and attached to a motel. I popped in to get a hot latte on a very cold day. I was greeted by a friendly girl who made some suggestions about flavors. I ended up with an almond milk Dubai chocolate latte, which was delicious. She made it quickly and I really enjoyed it. They also had a selection of coffees mixed with liquor that were enticing, but I could not partake because I was driving. They had some pastries available for purchase as well as a few tables where you could sit inside or outside. I would definitely go back if I was in the area again. read more

Coffee time! I was here at 6:30am and the gal behind the counter was dishing up coffee and pastries for locals and hotel guests. There are a couple small tables inside so it's possible to spend some laptop time here but it's not idea for more than an hour or two as it's not really laid out as a "coworking" space. This cute little coffee shop is to die for! It sits right on Carteret and is nestled into the building of a hotel. It faces the road though so you can't miss it! There is seating both inside and outside. In addition to some lovely pastries and drink options, there is a full-fledged store for other necessities, as well as gifts and items that will enhance ones life as they travel. Examples: eucalyptus sprigs, watches, bath salts, jewelry, art, etc. Don't forget the array of magazines and the paper! Most of the pastries are made in house, with a few being ordered. I loved the açai smoothie and cherry danish (my husband is addicted to them!) Each employee we have interacted with is friendly and informative. Will definitely return! read more

Not too long ago my husband and I made a day trip to Beaufort SC (during out Savannah vacation) and while out and about exploring my husband noticed this coffee shop. If you don't know my hubby, he is a sucker for iced coffee so he insisted in stopping in (I didn't want anything). Right away we began a nice conversation with the owner and after 20 minutes we finally ordered (nice conversation with a lovely stranger is the best). I didn't want anything at first but I got so comfy that I ended up craving coffee and a snack. I don't recall which coffee and snack I got; but I do recall my hubby getting a Iced Cafe Mocha. This delightful coffee shop was right next door to the City Loft hotel where we stayed on our recent visit to South Carolina. And lucky us, the hotel provides coupons good for free 16 ounce cups of coffee for each morning of your stay. My husband was a dear and trooped over every morning to get our coffee while I lolled in bed for a few extra moments. The coffee was always steaming hot, (just as I like it) and always delicious. There were a number of coffee flavors and styles from which to choose but for the most part I am a straight up non-flavored coffee gal, cream, no sugar. One day I popped into the shop myself to get a late afternoon iced coffee which gave me a chance to take a look around. Although small, this place has a lot to offer. And they open at 6:00AM which is good for early risers like us. There is a full coffee bar menu and an array of tea choices with both hot and cold options. There are fresh muffins, smoothies, a case with chilled white wines and a shelf of some reds, beer, newspapers, breakfast items like fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, egg and cheese sandwiches and lunch items like soups, salads, wraps and sandwiches. There is a lot packed into this small but very pleasant space. There is free Wi-Fi and a few tables and chairs in which to hang out although probably more than 6 people in here would feel tight. It's best suited to get your items to go. It appears this shop is owned by the same people who run the City Loft hotel so there is an emphasis on sustainable practices just like the hotel, and when possible they utilize organic products. This coffee was the best I had in Beaufort. read more

It was very cool looking, and we decided to head on over after lunch. The interior is just as fun as the outside. They have their menu beautifully laid out on chalkboards as well as their specials. We really liked all the cute drawings and doodles. The store also sells lots of cute things like hair clips, jewelry, stationary, and fun prepackaged snacks. Now to the important part: The Drinks There were so many unique flavors to choose from it was hard to make a choice. Best coffee shop in Beaufort. The owner of what had been the best coffee shop in Beaufort - Firehouse- consulted on opening this business. Firehouse unfortunately has closed, but City Java does continue its legacy of great coffee and great flavors. It also offers a pretty substantial breakfast and lunch menu. On your way into downtown Beaufort you pass a Starbucks on your left- just keep on driving because City Java & News is ten times better for about the same price. I like how they put coffee ice cubes in the iced drink so it doesn't get watered down. The atmosphere is cute, quiet, and modern. It's attached to a small chic hotel and there isn't a lot foot traffic in and out of the shop. They have seating in the front of the shop and in the back with a TV and it has good WiFi. I'd say it's a nice little study area! When you're done studying over some coffee finish up the evening and decompress with some wine because they have that too! read more

Wonderful little coffee shop. If you're staying there they will serve your hot drinks in nice ceramic cups, which I always enjoy. Nice music that adds to the coffee shop vibe. A nice view of downtown. A fairly nice design on the inside. It runs a little on the small side in terms of spacing. That's a negative or a positive depending on if you're into more comfy spaces or open floor plans. Free wifi is always a plus. And I rarely have issues with the wifi going down (which happens kind of often at Common Ground, the coffee shop down the street).
