Wonderful little coffee shop. If you're staying there they will serve your hot drinks in nice ceramic cups, which I always enjoy. Nice music that adds to the coffee shop vibe. A nice view of downtown. A fairly nice design on the inside. It runs a little on the small side in terms of spacing. That's a negative or a positive depending on if you're into more comfy spaces or open floor plans. Free wifi is always a plus. And I rarely have issues with the wifi going down (which happens kind of often at Common Ground, the coffee shop down the street). Tried to like it. Wanted to love it. Had been intending on trying it for months now. But was disappointed. The young lady behind the counter seemed flustered even though I was the only person at the counter and only about 3 other people in the cafe. It took her quite a while to even acknowledge my presence. Wasn't a very great first impression. The iced coffee I ordered was a large hazelnut with skim milk. She poured some stale coffee (from the taste of it) into a cup, added ice and a squirt of hazelnut and told me to fill it up the rest of the way with the skim milk from the "serve yourself" counter. City Java is adorable. I was slightly confused because it is located next to the City Loft hotels, but it does have a separate entrance. It certainly warrants a pop in! The coffee is reasonably priced and fresh made. The baristas are very knowledgeable and friendly. I strongly suggest getting the Dublin Divinity with Almond milk blended. It was great! The staff was so patient with my toddler. I got him the Vanilla Smoothie and it was delicious. My favorite part about it was the relaxed vibe from everyone in side. The coffee here is quite good! Sometimes you need a little pick-me-up, especially when you are attending a very cool film festival. I had a soy latte and then a double espresso. The quality of the espresso is very good. It is a quirky little shop in a small hotel, which street parking and a parking lot. It is very convenient to Bay Street. My main quibble with this place is that I ordered, initially, a soy cappuccino, which I have ordered from both chain and independent cafes in the following cities: Boston, Portland, Seattle, about three Seattle suburbs, Chicago, Atlanta, two Atlanta suburbs, Kansas City, Asheville, Louisville, San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Palo Alto, Alameda, Denver... Okay, I can't name all the cities because it would be too many. I was told by the barista at this place not that she couldn't do it, but that "soy milk doesn't foam." I'm pretty sure I got a really inappropriate look on my face even though I tried to hold it in. I do know soy milk is harder to foam, but I also know lots of people do it. Nice clean look. The lattes we had were not bad. We come from Chicago so coffee shops are a big deal and espresso is a big deal. The cups were pretty messy when they came back to us (espresso and milk all down the side). The latte was a little bitter but again not bad. Here's where they excel, they bake all their pastries in house and make all the sandwiches too. We had the raspberry and white chocolate scone and it was awesome. If the coffee sucked (which it didn't) the pastry made the visit delightful. All that in addition to welcoming staff... Four stars. read more

We ended up coming here every morning while on our trip to beaufort for our morning coffee. Though we were having our morning coffee kind of late (around 11ish) there were still a good assortment of pastries available to order and the service was still great. The first day I ordered a dirty chai latte (chai latte with a shot of espresso) and was lucky enough that they had soymilk. The latte was delicious. My bf had just coffee but for a good 5 min they forgot to give him a cup to pour. The second day I ordered just a plain chai latte with soymilk. They add honey to their chai blend to give it a natural sweetener but for me it was just a little too sweet as a morning drink. My bf was boring and just ordered anther coffee. We did get a very yummy chocolate chip espresso muffin which has the perfect balance of a crusty top and a soft pillowy sweet inside. read more

Receiving friendly service is a rarity but if that's not a big deal for you...their coffee is darn good. It's a fairly simple process, they give you a cup and the coffee choices are in airpots. Even with the spotty service, I have always found their coffee to be the tastiest around. read more

This is the coffee shop for those that want to get away from the sugary drinks that are pervading the market. Not that the sugary drinks are all bad, but sometimes you want that cup of java to have a bite to it. They have cute names for their signature drinks, but I really can't remember them right now. All I know is that my husband was very impressed with the amount of body and flavor within his drink. I especially enjoyed mine as well. The aroma hits you as soon as you come in and teases you into getting one of their cakes. mmmmmm, so good. It looks smaller than it actually is and if you need to hold a meeting or something, they have a room that is able to be closed off. I love the ambience too. Great little spot! I'm an early riser, but with a newborn, now I'm a realllyyyyy early riser. At 5:30am I got on Yelp to see if there was any small chance Beaufort had a coffee shop that opened early. Found this place, and walked over from the inn around the corner. Definitely hit the spot! 4 different coffee roasts, and the barista even asked what type of coffee I prefer, and then pointed me in the direction of the light roast, which was so tasty! Stopped by here for the first while walking around downtown. It was hot and I always go for a good iced coffee. The coffee was fantastic and this is one of the few establishments I've been to that serves their iced coffee with coffee ice cubes to prevent watering down. That alone warrants 5 stars. The barista was friendly and quick. We even got a quick tour of the hotel property and a room. Will definitely stay at the hotel and visit this coffee shop again when visiting family! read more

Delicious coffee! This is a cute little cafe that has TONS of options to choose from, but they really shine with their attention to detail. For example, you can get coffee ice cubes in your iced coffee so it doesn't get watered down! They also offer (at least) almond milk for people looking for options other than regular milk. read more

By far the best place to get coffee in town. Their drinks aren't watered down with milk. Their prices are comparable to Common Ground, but you get more espresso in your drinks! A 12 oz gets 2 shots (whereas at Common Ground you get 1 unless you pay extra) and a 16 oz gets 3 shots (whereas at Common Ground you get 2). Even their frozen coffee drinks contain ACTUAL ESPRESSO, and not just powdered coffee. Staff is generally friendly and helpful. read more
