You can tell a lot of care goes into everything that comes out of the kitchen and behind the bar. David made the experience next-level: friendly, attentive, and clearly knows his craft. He gave great recommendations and made us feel welcome without hovering which is exactly what you want in a great bartender. Red O already has the vibe, but David is what makes it memorable. This was my second time at Red O. The first time I went was opening week, and I think the restaurant was still getting situated because the food was mediocre, nothing special. But my friends and I went tonight to celebrate a birthday and the food was pretty good! We got the chips, salsa and guacamole to share, and I got the ceviche. All were delicious. My husband and I were looking for a good restaurant for our weekend date night. One of our usual spots? No, let's try something different! We had passed this restaurant many times and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! Food: I ordered the Blackened Keto Wild Salmon Risotto. If I could bring the chef home to cook this for me every day, I would! I'm not a devout Keto follower, but I do *try* to limit my carbs. This dish was so flavorful and exquisitely presented. The salmon fillet over the bed of cauliflower "rice" had so much flavor and nutrients packed into it. The salmon was cooked to perfection; not dry at all. My husband and I have this unwritten rule to try something different every time we make a return visit to a restaurant, but I would happily (and deliciously) order this again! My husband ordered the Slow Braised Carnitas. He is a huge meat lover and found this to be very satisfying. The pork was tender and moist and seasoned to perfection. This dish was accompanied by beans and house made tortillas. For dessert (yes, this was a major cheat day for both of us) we split the Flan. It was delicious - a combination of dense texture and sweetness and a wee bit of tartness from the berries topping the dessert - a very satisfying end to our meal. They have a great selection of desserts - everything from churros to tres leches cake to flan...and I'm sure that they are all yummy! Service: Kudos to the entire team this past Saturday - everyone was amazing! Special shoutout to our server, Nina. She was very attentive, noting allergies, packing our leftovers...just making us feel welcome and comfortable. Ambiance: The restaurant is absolutely stunning; very elegant and modern. Solid 4.5... but I'm rounding up since they just opened they are working out some staffing kinks. Those short rib enchiladas deserve emotional support. They fell apart faster than my last relationship. Shrimp fajitas came out sizzling like they were trying to steal my girl's attention and honestly, they almost did. Great food, killer vibe, and just enough tequila to make you text "we should come here more often" to someone you probably shouldn't. Red O didn't just feed me, it flirted with me. When I come back and the food doesn't slap like it did tonight and timing doesn't improve, I will personally set up a mariachi protest outside the front door until they hand me an enchilada that apologizes. I ordered the skinny margarita pitcher, duck taquitos, goat cheese tamale, chicken fajitas, and shrimp fettuccine. The taquitos were fried way too long, the tamale was dry, the fajitas were incredibly simple, and while the pasta was good and easily the best item ordered, my wife makes the same thing but better at home. The margarita was pretty good. The prices reflect everything except the food. I spent $275 for those items and I did not leave feeling like I just had a $300 dining experience by any means. If you're looking for great Mexican food and drinks at a reasonable price, I highly recommend heading to Plata instead. read more

The restaurant was so accommodating to our additions on the reservation, the loudness of the evening, and the entire experience. The manager was helpful, and so were the hostesses. I was in the area read some reviews that made me hesitant but judging by the time of day I went I believed it would be fine. Glad I made a good call! I was greeted pleasantly and giving a tour since it was my first visit. I chose the lounge bar area because happy hour menu only served in specific areas and that was one. Only gripe is wish I had some sun light to be near lol such a gorgeous day! Inside was beautiful it wasn't loud which am grateful for as I am happier with calm peaceful surroundings. I am positive after work it would be busy and can get noisy. Next was service which again given my time of arrival was great even though I didn't get checked in on after food arrived but still I could have flagged down someone easily. The only reason for 4 out of 5. But really it's 4.5 stars. The other reason is I ordered Salmon bowl and mentioned to make it charred but it was a bit charred and wasn't made aware of how spicy the green sauce was which left my mouth pretty "on fire" for a bit after eating. I could not finish it and then there was some sour or hot dressing on the cabbage that made it all very painful. I don't eat spicy at all so was difficult to eat at once felt I needed something to calm it down with. So if you're like me get those sauce on the side or ask for mild. The dish would have been perfect otherwise. The salmon was tender under the char! I also ordered chicken quesadilla which honestly phenomenal or maybe since I had it first lol it wasn't spicy and just was delicious! Would definitely come back to try the Keto Salmon no spicy sauce! I've been impatiently waiting for Red O to open in Westlake for what seems like years. The coming soon signs were such a tease and tormented me every time I went to the Promenade. But good things come to those who wait, and Red O finally opened! The interior is beautifully designed and decorated. Red O struck a great balance between sophisticated and classy with a somewhat casual beachy vibe. It was like being at a resort with much better food. The food was very delicious. Elevated Mexican food can be tricky to pull off, but not here. The chips and perfectly crunchy and salty, but you have to get the guacamole. This guac is lighter on the tomato which I love, and it really melts in your mouth. For entrees, the Chilean sea bass was so buttery smooth and flaky tender with a nice crisp. The short rib enchiladas were super flavorful and came with rice and beans. The guajillo sauce on the enchiladas was smoky and wonderful. The short rib was cooked excellently. To top off the meal, the churros were the perfect finishing touch. I love the chocolate and caramel sauces that accompany the sugary, cinnamony churros. The service at Red O was fantastic from start to finish. The front of house staff were super friendly and helpful. The server was quick to explain the menu and provide recommendations. I had the chance to dine at Red O for my mom's birthday dinner and this new establishment is nice! I used to come here when it was the grill on the alley and that restaurant had the most amazing crabcake however, I will say this new establishment will fit in just nicely with. It's delicious Mexican cuisine! When you walk into the restaurant, it's almost like you're transported into a different area. You feel as if you are on vacation and you're not in Westlake Village. The decor is beautiful. They have these high ceilings. They've got this lighting in there. That makes you feel like you're on vacation! The staff is friendly and we had a reservation booked and did not wait long to be seated. We ordered the goat cheese tamales, and they were really delicious. The sauce was good too. I wish I had a little more sauce to complement the dish, but overall the dish was good. We had the Branzino, which was a beautiful fish and it came out deliciously prepared. I definitely give this dish 10 out of 10. I had the Seabass and it was really good too. Highly recommend coming here. read more

Beautiful, big restaurant where The Grill used to be in the Promenade. It's where everyone wants to be "seen" right now in Westlake. It's fun to go to a new place, but for a weeknight dinner of Mexican food, we usually wouldn't pay $40 for a serving of enchiladas and up to $65 for steaks. Guacamole is $18. Our server was Alexa and she was great. Very personable and good at her job. Too bad all the women who work in the bar area have to wear tight black tops with a large hole in the front that gives everyone a clear view of their breasts. That doesn't really jive with the "classy" atmosphere they are trying to portray. I had shrimp fajitas with big perfectly cooked shrimp and loved the spices on everything on the plate. Make a reservation, you can do that on Yelp/Open Table. We were able to slip in at 5:30 and sit at a table near the bar, but that was probably a hostess mistake. Eventually the bar area will be for walk-ins, the manager says. But right now they are overwhelmed. Basic house margarita is $17, and it was delicious, good flavor. Glass filled with crushed ice, so it's not a big drink. Also tried the Cucumber Refresher and I did not love it. I thought it would be more like a cucumber margarita, but it was completely different. It's finally open! After three years of waiting, Red O in Thousand Oaks has arrived--and it was worth it. We stopped by last week for dinner and had such a great experience. We kicked things off with the Sunburn Margarita, which I highly recommend. With its serrano chile kick, it's definitely becoming my signature drink. Next up were the Goat Cheese Tamales--absolutely delicious. Pro tip: make sure every bite includes a little of the tomatillo salsa and onions. (We're already planning to come back soon for the Slow Braised Duck Taquitos.) For our entrée, we went all in with the Tomahawk Steak, ordered medium rare--because really, is there any other way? We chose the #2 style, which comes with roasted tomato salsa huevona, sweet corn tamale, crema, and grilled Mexican knob onions. It was grilled to perfection, and the portion was so generous we had plenty left over for the next day. If I could tweak one thing, I'd have loved more of those grilled onions, and for them to be a bit larger. Otherwise, everything was spot on. The service was perfectly timed--especially impressive for a restaurant that hasn't even been open a month. Our server was extremely knowledgeable, taking the time to explain the geographic cooking aesthetic and food ingredients without ever making us feel upsold. On top of that, at least three floor managers stopped by for quick, friendly conversation that felt genuine rather than intrusive. Wow, what a great experience. Was not expecting anything but was blown away by the whole experience. Went to birthday celebration happy hour for my 2 friends last night and from the moment we entered it was an A++ experience. Greeted by Joey ( manager?) who was so attentive, kind and fun. My husband booked a reservation for Mother's Day and overall I was highly disappointed with this place. They changed the menu and prices because it was Mother's Day, however ; failed to disclose this important information when my husband made reservations. The rain couldn't stop people from visiting this beautiful restaurant. The style and decor are very inviting and it feels like stepping into a Mexican resort. This place is a little pricey, but worth it since the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the Queso Fundido as an appetizer. Very cheesy and rich flavor profile. It comes with homemade tortillas that were exceptional. For the main course I had the Braised Short Rib Enchiladas. The guajillo chile is sauce was spot on and the short ribs were melting in my mouth. Very well cooked. My wife had the Branzino Zarandeado at market price. Fish was a nice portion and was very meaty in a good way. Flavors were refreshing and light as you'd expect from a quality fish dish. We also ordered some cocktails, but were not too impressed with them. They tasted fine, but didn't really wow us like the food did. Last thing was the service was a little spotty. Our server was a little slow and didn't quite check back on us as well as she should have. Thankfully some of the bussers were kind enough to see if we needed anything. I recently visited this restaurant for my brother's birthday dinner, accompanied by my partner and sister-in-law, boyfriend, mother & niece. While the decor was beautiful and the food was decent, I was disappointed with the service we received. My main concern was the attire and behavior of our waitress. As a former waitress of grade A restaurants I would know. Her very revealing outfit seemed inappropriate for the setting, especially compared to the formal attire of the hostesses. I also felt she was overly flirtatious with my brother and boyfriend, pushing them to order expensive drinks without properly explaining the options or prices and getting their explicit consent. The situation escalated when she made a suggestive comment about "the boys leaving us" after they went to the bar to take celebratory shots. My brother at the end of the bill was in shock at the price for the alcohol. It's called bait and switch trickery in this case. Just for her to walk the cart over in itself they were charged. Keep this behavior downtown not in the middle of westlake village promenade. This is not a brothel. To top it off, the music was very loud and overstimulating I couldn't hear the waitress. My mother, who's eaten in 5 star restaurants internationally ordered a meal she was anticipating quality for a $40 meal. When it arrived it was a pile of meat. There was no rice or sides. She immediately returned it saying to me "dog food looks better" "the food was dry and tasteless" LOL.. Overall, the experience fell short of my expectations for a high-end restaurant, and I wouldn't recommend it based on the service we received. This is a great place to go if you plan on being scammed for drinks and like to look at women in fishnet stockings and skirts who bend over to take orders. The chips and salsa -- usually the easy win at a Mexican restaurant -- were so spicy they were almost hard to eat, and the ceviche had the same issue. Not "flavorful spicy," just overly hot. Drinks were another letdown. For what they charge, it was surprising (and kind of disappointing) to find out most of the ingredients were premixed. After one and a half drinks I woke up the following morning and had a massive headache , which isn't a great sign. Food-wise, the shredded chicken tacos were pretty bland. Nothing terrible, but nothing memorable either. Beans and rice portion was also pretty skimpy. Overall, not the worst experience, but definitely not worth the high prices. Won't be rushing back anytime soon. If you want corporate Mexican, which is rarely amazing, Plata is close by. read more

I hosted a larger dinner party here for a post filming party and rented out their private dining room. My experience from start to finish was flawless. The event planner Kendall was so communicative and clear in what to expect with menu options, and any other option you can think of. Quick email responses and smooth process. The day of, I checked in with the manager Emily, who was so sweet and showed us the space and introduced to me our servers Edgar and Simone. They all took SUCH great care of us and checked in with me sporadically (at my request) to let me know where we stood with the bill amount, as I had a budget to stick to. Everything went as planned we were right on target for my budget, thanks to them being so in top of it. Although the service was top tier, the food was absolutely delicious from start to finish. Every plate that came out was better than the last, and you could tell the kitchen takes pride in what they serve. The dessert assortment stole the show though - rich, decadent, and impossible to choose a favorite....so we chose all of them! Odd choice, but it sounded interesting and with a sort of small menu, it seemed like it might be delicious. I couldn't eat it after two bites. It was like steamed spinach in a tortilla with sauce on it, which is fair considering they are spinach enchiladas, but the description on the menu is not what ends up on the plate. The description sounds great, but the taste isn't there. I felt horrible when our waitress asked how the food was and I let her know that I didn't like mine. I would've kept eating it if it was at least kind of good, but it was not good at all. Our server was very kind and was trying to help me find something else to try. I ended up getting a quesadilla with rice and beans and it was also strange and just not good. I truly feel bad saying this, but after spending $200, with no alcohol, it made me sad that the food wasn't good. My son got the kids steak taco and the meat was big clumps of beef in a tortilla. He didn't eat it. The fries it came with were delicious though! My husband and daughter got the fish tacos. They were average at best. My husband gave them a 2/10. My other daughter got the Carnitas tacos and she loved those. The guacamole and plantain chips were good, but you don't get enough plantain chips with the guacamole. The chips and salsa were good but we spent $22 just on chips, salsa, and guacamole. The kids really liked the lemonade. I feel bad leaving a low star review but I wouldn't recommend this place based on the food. Also, the staff with ear pieces everywhere and a lot of pacing and walking around was odd. Such a great experience I forgot to take any photos, oops! We visited Red O on a Sunday evening for a friend's birthday dinner. There was a brief wait once we arrived and then we were directed to our table outside. The outdoor space is gorgeous - light and airy with plenty of heaters. Our waiter was friendly, explained the concept and made recommendations for both drinks and dinner. The table shared the guacamole and the salsa, both were great but we really enjoyed the plantains that come with the guacamole. My husband I are shared the shrimp and steak fajitas - WOW, perfectly cooked, so much flavor and plenty to share between us.
