As take-out Chinese goes, this is at the very top. I usually get delivery and they are fast! Spelling out addresses over the phone to a non-native English speaker can take some time, so I'll be curious to see if they ever put an online order form on their website. So for some reason I have never tried Red Ginger and it's always been super close to my house. I had driven past it for years, time after time and well I finally gave it a try. They have somewhat late hours which for most Chinese Food cravings thus seems to be the trend. General Tso's serving was beyond I could eat and delicious. Shrimp Trifecta I think its called was flavorful. Food was ready promptly. Staff was very friendly. I wanted a small portion of Lo Mein but all they had was a huge portion. Kinda bummed me out but other than that everything was great. Close and Good Chinese, well nothing wrong with that. I've added another Chinese food carryout to my selection. Wahoooo! read more

I come here sometimes with my girlfriend since it is right up the street from me. For a carry out, it is pretty decent. The prices are reasonable and the service is quick and friendly. They have a large menu, typical of most Chinese carry-out. I especially recommend the spicy shredded chicken. I've had the Pad Thai, which is OK. The curry is pretty good. Great spot for take out. The location is a block off Connecticut, the service is super fast & the staff nice. The menu is what you'd expect, but the food is lighter than most & the ingredients fresh. The food was good but I was most impressed by the service. First, they were early. Second, after I looked at the food I realized they forgot the green onions that normally come with Peking Duck. Within moments of me noticing, there was a knock on the door - the manager had brought the onions over as soon as they realized the mistake (without me calling them). We get delivery to the Grosvenor from Red Ginger in Kensington. Delivery arrives fast - typically about 10 minutes faster than the time they say. Everything is fresh tasting and packed well for delivery. Red Ginger's BEST dish is the Salt and Pepper Fish Fillets (aka: "Salted Pepper Fillet Fish"). Another yelper posted an accurate photo of it. Tastes just like its name. LOTS of fried fish fingers with a snap of salt and pepper. (The greens bed underneath is very spicy hot, but I don't eat that, just the fish.) Fried white fish, yet somehow very "light" tasting with no fishy flavor (good). "Tastes like chicken" but lighter. It hits the spot and has enough for two. It's their most expensive dish at $12. I find fish difficult to cook at home (odors, avoiding fishy flavor) so I really appreciate the Salt and Pepper Fish Fillets. Red Ginger's "Pad Thai" with Tofu is fine. (Unfortunately we tend to compare noodle dishes to Amina Thai, oh, if only Amina delivered!). Red Ginger breaks the tofu up and cooks it all mixed in with the noodles, instead of leaving it in blocks, which is a nice change. The Red Ginger "Shrimp Wonton" appetizer is sort of like a flat crispy crab rangoon but with little whole shrimps inside. There's 6 of them for $7, so good to share. I'm always surprised how good and crispy it is for a fried item that's delivered. We tried the "Thai Style Fried Rice", but it wasn't very fried-ricey, to us. It was light and herbal-fresh tasting. More like "white rice mixed with things". We happen to prefer our fried rice a bit more pan fried-y. The next day we took the leftovers, we fried an egg, and pan fried it more ourselves, which was good. Unlike other yelpers, we happen NOT to be fans of the "House Special" Egg Roll - it has ground beef in it. It tastes fatty, like a cheeseburger with onions. But many other yelpers seem to rave about it. Maybe it is our expectations for an asian flavor from an asian restaurant that make this item less enjoyable for us. read more

Also the crab and cheese appetizer was delicious. The spring rolls were unremarkable. The order was correct. I will order from them again but next time after I get my grubhub confirmation I will call teh restaurant to ensure they have the right address. I get it that this is a stressful, high volume time for restaurants. ** This review is based on the ordering process using GrubHub during COVID. One hour outside of the delivery window provided by GrubHub, my food still wasn't here. I called the restaurant and they told me I had given them a different address, said I entered a totally different address than my address. I checked my Grubhub order, and my street address had been entered correctly. They must have copied it wrong at the restaurant. The food at Red Ginger is excellent. We were on our way to a play in Kensington so we ate there. There are about 5 or 6 tables for eating or waiting for your takeout to be ready. The place is scrupulously clean and the people are very friendly. It really is a gem: portions are huge and the food comes hot. Only slight issue I have is that you get served on plastic plates and food containers (with plastic utensils and styrofoam cups with warm water) even for dining in. They could make an effort to make it a better dining experience by having real plates and glasses. Aside from that, definitely try out Red Ginger; we will find a way to go back. read more

Food is quite good, but Red Ginger's HOME DELIVERY SERVICE IS AWFUL. Last time, I was told I'd have my food in 20-30 minutes -- it was not delivered until 2 phone calls and almost 2 hours later. I did not use them for several months but decided to try again last night. It was WORSE. Yes, it was a rainy Friday night and I was told it could take 1 hour or so. But at the 2 hour mark, I phoned and was put on hold for 30 minutes. No apology for the interminable wait, and the only explanation? "It is very busy." I'm sorry but waiting almost 3 HOURS for delivery (food arrived 2 hours and 50 minutes after I placed my order) is absolutely ridiculous and completely UNACCEPTABLE. I will be taking my business elsewhere and recommend that others do likewise. read more

They messed up years ago and didn't fix it. Thought I'd try them again as I just moved back. Egg rolls were tasty, the price went up and the size went down. I've ordered Kung Pao chicken from many places over the years and this is the first one that served it breaded & deep fried, a few peanuts (not cooked) and no peppers. They are pretty big and tasted like a hamburger. Very unique and a must-have in my opinion. Their Salted Pepper Fillet Fish is delicious and is one of my favorite dishes. This place meets both of those requirements. We called in for delivery on Sunday night (around 8:00) and the gentleman that took our order was very helpful and polite. We were told our food would arrive within 30 mins and our food arrived in 20 mins! We had their special egg roll, chicken pad Thai, and steamed chicken w/ vegetables and their brown sauce. The location is tough and there is little or poor parking because of the car repair places that surround it. I am a big fan for Red ginger. This is our "good" chinese takeout option. They have excellent vegetarian options which are not all found in the vegetarian corner section. The Penang Curry is great. The Kung pao Tofu is wicked. Our kids loved the orange chicken and they can make it less spicy. This is really a 5 star review for Kensington/Wheaton/Silver spring area and i struggle to think of better local Chinese. read more
