A day after I posted my initial review, Paul, the manger, called me to try to fix the situation. He said that they opened recently and are trying to "do things right." WOW. I am just amazed that they actively seek out yelp reviews to make improvements. Seriously, think how much better the world would be if other businesses did that. We took them up on that offer on Sunday, and I was very pleasantly surprised.
This miso soup was a huge improvement. Probably twice the tofu and 3 times the seaweed as before. The tofu pieces were still tiny, but there were enough of them that it didn't matter as much. The broth was very flavorful and not watered down tasting. The spider roll was also a lot better. I still think the tempura could have been cooked more / crunchier (event taking into consideration that it was delivery), but one thing they did that I LOVED was roll the little roe into the sushi. It looked lovely and also gave every bite the "pop" from he roe. The mango in the mango rolls we got was all ripe and tasty. Some of the salmon meat was a little tough - like it came from the really thin, tapered part of the fillet, but other than that the quality of the fish was excellent. My roommate got the eel sashimi and said it was really excellent. I'm not an eel fan, but the pieces of meat on there were huge.
One thing I did not even complain about in my original review, but they have remedied, was that when we ordered the first two times, we only got ginger, soy and wasabi for like 1 in 3 rolls. This time they covered at least half of them, which seems reasonable (I just can't get enough pickled ginger!). Finally, despite the terrible roads, it took them just 40 minutes to get to us. That's great, but the best part was that they told me it would be 45 mins to an hour, and that it might be more because of the roads. Even if it had taken more than an hour, I wouldn't have been upset because at least they gave me an accurate estimate. If it's gonna be an hour and a half, just tell me, so I can decide whether to keep my order, have a snack, etc.
I can't give them 5 stars because of the original hair issue (that's just really hard for me to get over) and some very minor complaints about the spider roll crunch and chewy salmon in some of the rolls. I have to be head over heels to go 5-stars. That being said, their customer service is truly outstanding, and the sushi is pretty damn tasty. All in all, we are back on board with Red Ginger. read more
