Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs
Michelle L.

restaurant is located inside a shopping center upstairs. Not very visible from the main street. We came early on a week day and was able to get seated fairly quickly. We were immediately greeted upon walking in, and they have extended outdoor seating as well. We were seating inside and ordered pretty quick after being seated. The portions are generous here, plenty to share especially if you like to portion control like myself. I would say the food is decent but presentation is not the best. The atmosphere is loud with lots of close tables next to each other. The servers were nice and checked on us several times. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

We spent some time in the Aptos and Capitola area and found this gem. It is tucked back in a shopping center and is well worth the visit or two! We ended up going three times because we loved it so much. We had chicken fried steak and egg dish with a biscuit and gravy. Chefs kiss! The carnitas Benedict special was also wonderful. It was filled with of flavor and perfectly seasoned. The stuffed bear claw and the pecan waffles were also so good. Nothing disappointed us. The service was good and we dined outside one day (pictures are under the red umbrellas) and inside two times. They have counter seating or table seating inside. Overall when we are back in the area we will definitely be back. We love a good breakfast spot - especially local and unique spots so this was a win!

Biscuit and gravy

Found in the DeerPark shopping center. Place has been around a while and they have a decent local following. Prices are average, portions are big. Service is nice and they are on it. There's a lot on the menu. Ordered chicken fried steak with over easy eggs and biscuit/gravy. While the steak was good, along with the eggs being great. The "homemade" biscuit was dry and the gravy looked old. Like premade. Home fry potatoes are plentiful and taste good. Overall just average. Carpet is absolutely disgusting and worth at least -1 star. Understandably there is carpet given the high wood ceilings but if carpet is the desired flooring it will need to be changed, not just cleaned, like once a year. Can not only see it but smell it.

Once again, so good!!! My dad is visiting and he wanted to try a different place for breakfast. We decided to come here because the portions that they serve are perfect! Plus we love the food! Thanks to Liam, our attentive server, for the excellent service! Thanks to the the cooks, you guys are rocking it!!

Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

I was really in the mood for a cinnamon roll and was pleased to see they had it on their menu. While their chai latte was great the cinnamon roll was not good unfortunately. Refrigerated and heated up but not even warm, very disappointed.

Eggs over with country potatoes. I subbed the toast for a biscuit and gravy.

I really enjoyed my time at the Red Apple Cafe. These are the type of restaurants that I like to support. They have a great outside dining area, but we chose to eat inside. I loved the rustic ambiance of this cafe. Our service was fantastic. I got eggs over easy with country potatoes. The country potatoes are the best I have ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. They overcooked one of the eggs a bit, but that's ok. Next time I will remember to get Sunny-side up. I got a biscuit and gravy and it was so darn good. The mini pancakes are not mini at all. They were cooked to perfection as well. When I am in Aptos for breakfast or brunch, I will come here again.

Apricot Almond Pancakes (Top) King Salmon Benedict (Right) Steak and Eggs (Bottom)

This was a cute little brunch spot in a shopping plaza. We ordered the King Salmon Benedict, Steak and Eggs, and the Apricot Almond Pancakes for "dessert." The steak and eggs were cooked perfectly. Although the hollandaise on the benedict was a bit bland, the salmon was seasoned so well! I loved the complexity of the flavors given by the exotic spices. The potatoes and sausages were impeccable and I loved that there was a variety of sausages that they paired with different dishes. The pancakes had what I presume was dried apricots in it. We didn't really like it as was very stiff and chewy but the flavor was very nice with the soft crunch of the almonds. We just wish it was softer. For service and ambience, we absolutely loved the cozy cabin feel of the restaurant. Every staff member who served us were very sweet and lovely as well and checked in on us frequently. Definitely a solid brunch spot in this area!

Meaty delicious burger patty with fried eggs and fried potatoes

Good selection with TONS of breakfast and lunch options. Quality food and generous portions. Between the four of us, we enjoyed corned beef hash with poached eggs; sausage and eggs; Spinach Mushroom omelet; and burger patty with fried eggs. Several came with delicious fried potatoes; choice of toast or corn tortillas for GF. Yum! Terrific service by Naomi and team. Coffee and hot water refills were on the spot. Good communication and appropriate attentiveness. Ambiance is a bit County. Although seasonally decorated, it might be time for an update. Nearby the Seascape Resort, next to Highway 1. A bit hidden; upstairs. Plentiful parking; lots of indoor and outside seating

Hearty breakfast

Food is ok, expensive. Service is terrible. Every employee around here woke up in the wrong side of the bed.

When I say I've been coming to Sunrise Cafe for a long time, I'm not over-exaggerating. I used to…read morecome here every Sunday with my grandma growing up--this was my spot! Not to date myself, but that's in the range of ~30 years ago. We had a usual booth, usual orders, and we saw the same waitstaff and cooks every week. This was a tradition I looked forward to all week long, since it was one of the only times I got to eat breakfast out at a restaurant regularly. While I live up in The Peninsula now, my parents are still down in Aptos. It was long overdue, but I had been telling my wife for years when we'd drive by the story of how I used to go there, and she'd always suggest that we go back one day. Well friends, that day finally came! On a recent trip to visit my folks and a childhood friend, we decided to take a family outing to Sunrise Cafe on Sunday morning for a good ol' nostalgic breakfast. PARKING: There is both street parking, and a dedicated lot in the back. Since the main entrance is located right on Soquel, I definitely recommend using the back for a more private and safe parking option. They also have an entrance in the back so you don't have to walk all the way around! SEATING: You check in towards the front end of the counter, where the register is. Since we came on a Sunday, it was full when we got there. There's a counter with eight (8) seats, as well as a half dozen or so booths on the left as you come in the front, and some other seating on the right. It did appear as if they shortened the tables, as they didn't reach out to the end of the booth seats. We ended up having to wait around 10 minutes, which wasn't too bad. DRINKS: They have a lot of the standards you'd expect to find at a cafe. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice (apple, orange, grapefruit, cranberry), soda (Coke products), iced tea, and mimosas ($6.50!). A few of us ordered coffee--good, not epic. The OJ is from concentrate, otherwise I would have ordered a glass. FOOD: A nice 3-page menu of breakfast and lunch options. Many of the standards, with combos of eggs and breakfast meats (bacon, sausage, ham, Linguisa, chicken apple sausage). There's a list of scrambles, omelets, eggs Benedict, and "Solar Delights" which has corned beef & hash, country fried steak, and a tofu veggie dish. For lunch they have a variety of sandwiches (hot & cold), burgers, and salads. We went for breakfast, and between the four of us we ordered: Sunrise Special (2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, home fries & toast or biscuit), French toast, corned beef & hash, and the Western Scramble (Corralitos jalapeño sausage, onion, topped with 2 scrambled eggs, chili beans & cheddar cheese). The food was all solid. The corned beef was chunky and seemed fresher than "from the can". The French toast looked tasty, and my dad said he liked it. My mom enjoyed her Sunrise Special, as a standard cafe breakfast. I ordered the Western Scramble and it was pretty wild; a huge mound of hearty deliciousness. It was enough food that I was able to take some of it, plus half a biscuit home and enjoy it for another breakfast a few days later. The potatoes were one of my favorite things growing up, so I do wish I had ordered a side, or something that allowed me to enjoy them on their own. OVERALL: This was a great nostalgia meal, and I'm super glad I came back. We found out that they changed ownership around four (4) years ago, so while it's not quite the exact same place, it's pretty darn close. I appreciate the friendly and hardworking staff, and will definitely come back on a future visit home! IG: @bbnem.eats

The eggs were dry, the sausage was too (and I love corralitos sausage!). The potatoes didn't have a lot of flavor. The best thing was the carrot muffin. My husband had the pancake special. Unfortunately, nothing special about that dish. We've had some good meals here, but the quality has gone down while the prices have gone up! I understand that everything is going up, but the quality should be the same. We were both disappointed.
