Food came out really quick and like that you can sub 6 baby pancakes over the potatoes and toast. They were cute and fluffy. I got the biscuit and gravy with my steak and the gravy was a bit bland. We spent about $26 for two cups of coffee, a cinnamon roll, and a blueberry muffin, and overall it just didn't feel worth it. The coffee was pretty mediocre, nothing memorable, especially for a place that seems known for its baked goods. The cinnamon roll was honestly disappointing. It lacked flavor and wasn't as soft or fresh as you'd hope, especially for something that should be a standout item. The one redeeming factor was the blueberry muffin, which was actually really good. I love to include this stop on my trips to Aptos! Food is always great and the outside seating is wonderful. It's a great place for a meeting spot! The traditional Benedict was tasty too-both paired well with a Bloody Mary-though they come Smokey so if-like me, you don't prefer 'em that way just ask the server to omit the smoke! restaurant is located inside a shopping center upstairs. Not very visible from the main street. We came early on a week day and was able to get seated fairly quickly. We were immediately greeted upon walking in, and they have extended outdoor seating as well. We were seating inside and ordered pretty quick after being seated. The portions are generous here, plenty to share especially if you like to portion control like myself. I would say the food is decent but presentation is not the best. The atmosphere is loud with lots of close tables next to each other. The servers were nice and checked on us several times. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

We spent some time in the Aptos and Capitola area and found this gem. It is tucked back in a shopping center and is well worth the visit or two! We ended up going three times because we loved it so much. We had chicken fried steak and egg dish with a biscuit and gravy. Chefs kiss! The carnitas Benedict special was also wonderful. It was filled with of flavor and perfectly seasoned. The stuffed bear claw and the pecan waffles were also so good. Nothing disappointed us. The service was good and we dined outside one day (pictures are under the red umbrellas) and inside two times. They have counter seating or table seating inside. Found in the DeerPark shopping center. Place has been around a while and they have a decent local following. Prices are average, portions are big. Service is nice and they are on it. There's a lot on the menu. Ordered chicken fried steak with over easy eggs and biscuit/gravy. While the steak was good, along with the eggs being great. The "homemade" biscuit was dry and the gravy looked old. Like premade. Home fry potatoes are plentiful and taste good. Overall just average. Carpet is absolutely disgusting and worth at least -1 star. Understandably there is carpet given the high wood ceilings but if carpet is the desired flooring it will need to be changed, not just cleaned, like once a year. I really enjoyed my time at the Red Apple Cafe. These are the type of restaurants that I like to support. They have a great outside dining area, but we chose to eat inside. I loved the rustic ambiance of this cafe. Our service was fantastic. I got eggs over easy with country potatoes. The country potatoes are the best I have ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. They overcooked one of the eggs a bit, but that's ok. Next time I will remember to get Sunny-side up. I got a biscuit and gravy and it was so darn good. The mini pancakes are not mini at all. They were cooked to perfection as well. This was a cute little brunch spot in a shopping plaza. We ordered the King Salmon Benedict, Steak and Eggs, and the Apricot Almond Pancakes for "dessert." The steak and eggs were cooked perfectly. Although the hollandaise on the benedict was a bit bland, the salmon was seasoned so well! I loved the complexity of the flavors given by the exotic spices. The potatoes and sausages were impeccable and I loved that there was a variety of sausages that they paired with different dishes. The pancakes had what I presume was dried apricots in it. We didn't really like it as was very stiff and chewy but the flavor was very nice with the soft crunch of the almonds. We just wish it was softer. For service and ambience, we absolutely loved the cozy cabin feel of the restaurant. Every staff member who served us were very sweet and lovely as well and checked in on us frequently. Have eaten at the Red Apple Cafe a few times over the last several years. My wife loves their Benedicts. I really like the Crab Cake Benedict, but found their Huevos Rancheros to be a little ho-hum. Cute place but it had a weird vibe. If you're looking for basic diner food it's ok I guess. The service wasn't the greatest. We asked what the Gluten Free options they had . The waitress said tortillas. I thought it was a joke. She looked at me like we were being difficult. My daughter has an allergy. Then I asked about the eggs and a few items. I was told well of course. It was very uncomfortable experience. My eggs weren't fully cooked ( scrambled eggs ). I just pushed the uncooked eggs to the side. And we were brought the check right away. Not even once was I asked if we would like anything else or a refill on our drinks. We just left didn't put in a complaint or send back food. We didn't want to make an unpleasant experience worse. Plus even if I would have said something I doubt this waitress would have cared. So that's why I'm writing this review. Sad because we are locals and we're excited to possibly make this one of our new breakfast spots. My daughter and I came home and immediately had to take gluten gest. This is an emergency supplement for my daughter that is for a gluten allergic reaction . I'm gluten intolerant just because I took gluten out of my diet not because I have an allergy. Went to breakfast with three other friends. It was 8am and we were the only patrons. We ordered our food and about 10 minutes later the first plate came up, and then two more. The only person working the room did the bring out the three meals and instead waited until the fourth came out, which was close to 10 more minutes. Two of the meals were not warm, including pancakes that weren't warm enough to melt the butter. My friend had to ask the server three times for blueberry syrup. The banana nut muffin was tasty. Service, however, was insanely slow for a greasy spoon diner. We weren't greeted for 30 minutes after sitting down, weren't eating until 56 minutes after sitting down, and had to wait forever for our check to come at the end, by which time we just wanted to leave and get on with our day. Returned to Aptos almost a year later and Red Apple Cafe remains among one of my favorite breakfast places in the area. It gets busy on the weekends, so expect a wait, but don't be discouraged because the wait doesn't tend to be long. You can expect your typical diner style menu with pages and pages of breakfast options from sweet to savory, healthy to unhealthy, small and large. I hate to write a bad review, but the food was so terrible that I want to let people know before they go and spend their hard earned money. I have gone here for years and it has been wonderful. I hadn't been in maybe over a year and we got the eggs Benedict, a salad and pancakes. The eggs Benedict was gross. The hollandaise was runny and was a bright orange color and it looked like it was just slopped on the plate over the English muffins and did not taste good. The salad was fine, but the pancakes also were not good and I don't know how you mess up pancakes! The service was great and the ambience was great, but the food was terrible. I won't be going back. Me and my husband Started coming to this restaurant a few months back and now we can't stay away, we usually go when Christian is working and he is always on top of it. Really sweet kid. While visiting Aptos, I saw this restaurant. It's located in a shopping mall on the 2nd level. You cannot see it from the main parking lot. There are stairs and an escalator to take up to the restaurant. Upon being in front of the restaurant,' and arriving around 10:30am, we saw quite a few people waiting to be seated. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated at the counter. Thinking that would be the best place to get in and out. What a mistake. We went unnoticed for 10 minutes until someone took our drink order. Then I asked if I can put in my food order. The servers were wondering who's section we were in and then someone just stepped up to take our order. The food was good but the service needs improvement. While sitting at the counter, we heard many customer complaints. They ranged from their order was incomplete, they've been waiting long for their food or drinks, they've been waiting long to be seated. We saw the food piling up at the window from the kitchen, they just weren't being sent to the tables. When we left, there were so many people waiting outside to be seated, but there were also many open tables in the dining room. If you are in a hurry or hangry, probably not the best place to come to. We did hear people ordering food to go and they seemed happy with their wait time. read more
