Asked the server what I should get, he recommended the Fish N Chips. Being a fan of Fish N Chips I was happy he recommended it because that must mean it's good. When the food came out I deadass wanted to catch this mans fade. If the fish is frozen and boxed, don't recommend the "fish & chips" and don't even put it on the menu in a damn coastal town. The food here has always been been decent. After a recent visit however I was pretty disgusted. The restaurant had an odor. Couldn't really place it but it was not pleasant. Decided to power thought it. After I was eating I felt something fall onto my head. I looked up and was horrified. There was an open ceiling with tons of black mold. This place really went downhill unfortunately, which is a shane because we used to almost be regulars. They've raised prices to ludicrous amounts that make it not even close to worth it anymore. And we used to go a lot but the last few times has been truly terrible service. Nothing got refilled, the orders were half wrong, food all came out at diff times so some of us were done when others were just starting, the coffee was burned and gross, the food was either overcooked or undercooked but none of it was right, etc. So we stopped going entirely when the bill was the same as fancier places but the food was worse and the service was just plain bad. Everything about the experience is consistently excellent. I've tried three quarters of everything on the menu and it's all excellent. The place is clean Services fast and very good. Wanted to love it but food was "meh" at best. I had eggs Benedict. Hollandaise was an unappetizing color and the hash browns, which I asked to be extra crispy were flabby. My husband had an omelette which was also "meh." It's a pity because it's in a great location and has a great vibe; the service was good (our waitress tried very hard) but the food was barely adequate. I think that management needs to take a hard cold look at the food and just resolve to do better. read more

We DoorDashed from the diner to our hotel. Everything was packaged well. The portion size was pretty big. We ordered the corned beef hash & eggs and the House Skillet. Everything tasted good and was filling. The corned beef had some good flavor. The skillet was covered in a comforting amount of cheese. We also had orange juice and coffee, which came in the soda cups. I'm glad they double cupped the coffee and included some different flavor of creamers. Lots of TVs you can see from wherever you are sitting. Walking in you feel familiar with everyone- nice service with a homey feel. Friendly service and they checked in on us frequently. We've had Naomi a few times and she is wonderful! So nice and personable. She makes sure you have what you need and I never needed to get her attention, she anticipated our needs and was helpful! If you're a local business owner you can advertise on their tables. Big menu with lots of options and it's very cheap! The food was typical diner food, good for what it was. This is one of the best places in all of Santa Cruz County to get breakfast/brunch. It's a breakfast lovers dream! For less than $15, you get a plate with pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, and potatoes! Most places in the South Bay/Santa Cruz area charge $20 and make you choose between sausage, bacon, OR ham for a breakfast platter. The Sausage here was savory and delicious, the ham was perfectly salty and smoky, the pancakes were fluffy, and the potatoes were crispy. Just as it should be. The service is very friendly, similar to a classic "American diner" vibe. Friendly staff, but it's not like they're going to bend over backward for you (usually there's only 1-2 waiters working) and they don't need to. That being said, the regulars and older customers were treated extremely well and seemed to have forged strong relationships with the staff. The place runs efficiently and is small enough that the waiters can easily see who needs a refill, a check, or their order taken. Don't be turned away by the slightly tacky, "Midwestern diner" decor. Yes, there's ads all over the tables and it's a bit dated in some places, but really, it's not much different from the decor inside a Bill's Cafe. Give this place a shot! read more

I've been here 5-6 times now over a year. It seems pretty solid for burgers and breakfast. The Monterey Burger is basically a Bacon Avocado Cheeseburger. We were greeted promptly and taken out back to eat on their patio. Service was great, menu and daily specials were of plenty of variety and the outdoor space was comfortable. We really enjoyed our time here and our breakfast. The 2nd time was on a Sunday afternoon after running around Santa Cruz.
