Such a great little spot next to the mall. You wouldn't think much of it passing it but the food speaks for itself. Me and my wife both had the birria plate and it was so good! The meat was flavorful and tender with the consome it was excellent! Ty Briana for the attentive service! We also got a horchata and it was so creamy and was smooth ! Most definitely going to stop by again!

Came with the fam, we ordered huevos rancheros 4/10 the salsa used seemed more like an enchilada sauce or Taco Bell mild sauce and there was so much of it, my plate ended up looking like a bowl of soup. Unfortunately, it didn't hit the mark. Corned beef hash and eggs 6.5/10. Chilaquiles verdes 9/10, chilaquiles rojos 10/10, Build your own omelet 7/10, iced horchata latte 12/10 it tasted earthy and cinnamony in the best way, not overly sweet like many other horchata lattes tend to be. Cafe de olla 10/10 also not extremely sweet which my parents appreciated. Staff was friendly and attentive. They asked multiple times if we needed coffee refills and if we needed anything else. Bathrooms were clean, and front of house was too.

I came here today for a breakfast takeout order. The young gentleman that helped me was very nice and helped me make my choices. All of which were delicious!! I sat at the bar seating to wait and he offered me ice water, and I could see the chefs cooking. I ordered the huevos rancheros. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly even after I brought it home to eat. I ordered my son the chile verde pork omelette which came with handmade corn tortillas (or toast) he said the meat was flavorful and tender and he would get that again. We shared the concha French toast... omg soooo good! Everything was great. It was our first time eating food from here and we will be back!

Evarista's Comal is incredible! From the moment we walked in, we felt super welcomed. We ended up having the nicest conversation with the staff! It seriously felt like we were just catching up with a family member. The conversation flowed so easily, and the overall vibe completely felt like having food at an aunt or uncle's house (the ultimate Hispanic household hospitality!). On top of the amazing energy, the food came out super fast and was absolutely delicious. Our server kept checking in on us and made sure we had everything we needed. We felt so taken care of and can't wait to come back!

Great breakfast place, family operated on top of that. Came here due to the reviews, was def worth it. We got corned beef hash, Chile Verde omelette, pancakes and avocado toast. The Chile Verde was great, salty and flavorful with a slight spiciness. Combined with the omelette, it was a great treat in the corn tortillas. Beef hash was solid, albeit not too special but the hash brown was crunchy. Pancake was fluffy and decorated with banana and strawberries. Don't expect rush service and enjoy.

This place is not fancy, trendy or hip. However if you want to go to a friendly cozy place with good food this is it! This is a welcoming family-owned and run place where they treat you like you are visiting their home. I enjoyed the hamburger with handmade patties that were juicy and flavorful. The only thing I would change is the bun as it got moist and was a little to soft to hold up to the hefty meat patty. The Salmon Eggs Benedict had generous portions the hollandaise sauce was particularly good and the accompanying hash browns were cooked to perfection being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Super friendly and speedy service for breakfast and lunch. Cocktails aren't terrible or special - basic. On Sunday morning for brunch they have a duo performing Mexican music - really cute couple. It's small but we were seated quickly. I'd return.

Sabores de Mexico! Bite after bite, I was transported. So many flavors and perfect presentations brought me back to great sensations, memories, and fantastic flavors of 40 years of traveling through Mexico. Warm greetings by the team resonated at all the right frequencies singing red white and green. Muchas Gracias y hasta Pronto Evarista's!

Me and my wife got red & green chilaquiles with some steak everything was delicious! My sister got huevos rancheros and they were also delicious! Cafe and chocolate Mexicano was tasty!

I know they don't control the weather, but an umbrella may have helped keep the sun out of our eyes a little bit. Otherwise, it was a very enjoyable night out and the food was delicious. There are a lot of stairs but there is an option to ride down to the restaurant and back up in a cable car that runs diagonally from the street level to the restaurant. The menu has good variety. We had the baked Brie and calamari appetizer. Both were delicious. My entree was the Pacific Coast salmon that was served over a coconut rice and wakame salad. The plate was decorated with swirls of two sauces, a wasabi sauce and a ponzu sauce. The rice tasted like it had sushi rice seasonings. So good! I was so stuffed that I only had the. It somehow manages to feel quaint, elegant, and homey all at the same time. The service is consistently excellent, and we honestly haven't ordered anything here that we didn't like. Even the calamari deserves a special mention. Calamari feels like such a staple appetizer at so many restaurants that it's hard for one to really stand out, but somehow Shadowbrook does it. Their calamari is absolutely amazing. The beef Wellington, lobster tail with filet medallions, New York steak, and lamb have all been fantastic as well. One thing we especially appreciate is how family-friendly Shadowbrook is despite being such a fine establishment. They have coloring pages for kids, a varied children's menu, and even a little hat filled with toys that kids can choose from. Those small touches make it much easier to enjoy a special meal as a family. Without a doubt, Shadowbrook has become one of our favorite places for special occasions. And, of course, you can't talk about Shadowbrook without mentioning the iconic hillside cable car. It's the cherry on top and worth the ride every single time.

Don't get me wrong, it is pricy, but the food is good, creative, and memorable. They also brought out the starters one by one in a great order that I really appreciated. (1)Ceviche 2) pork belly 3) squash blossom 4) toast) 10/10 for: -squash blossom stuffed with crab: this was fried. loved that it was. Nice light batter that was crunchy. Crab was so good and fresh. I wish there was more than just 2 blossoms because we definitely could have just kept going. -pork chop entree special: so juicy!! the variety of flavors were so good. The corn mousse was delicious and not too sweet. If you wanted more sweetness, the au jus tasted almost like honey on the plate. Squashes were perfectly cooked and light to balance the flavors of everything else. Great grilled taste too. -peach toast: just great!! Sweet and a little savory from the buttered toast. Nice palette cleanser almost before our entrees 9/10 for the creme brulee: solid. Fun creme brulee top but very thin layer. The sauce was like a tart apple caramel that nicely balanced the sweet and creamy cake. 8/10 for: -pasta entree: fresh pasta was soo perfectly bouncy and soft. Sauce was balanced and light. Nothing crazy but I liked it. Partner thought it was a bit normal -pork belly starter: very flavorful and yummy but can be a bit salty on its own. Partner and I wish we could have had some mashed potatoes, bread, or white rice with it but then it would probably be more of an entree very good though! Eggplant sauce was lovely even for those who don't like eggplant normally. This also had mushrooms. 4-5/10 for the tuna ceviche because it mostly just tasted sour. I liked the cherry tomato and basil addition, but it needed some spice or more tomato and basil to balance out the sourness of the lime. this was the only dish I wish we didn't get I'd recommend this place for a nice date night! There is a small patio outside. I think they MIGHT accommodate pets out there. There is also a small elevator lift for those who need an accessible way up. Otherwise, you'll have to walk up a few steps. Kitchen is in the back but in an opened lay out. You can see them cooking everything if you sit at the bar or facing that way. Probably better for small groups or couples rather than a large party. We made a reservation at 7 and were seated promptly. Seemed like a full house all night. May need to wait a bit for walk in parties.

Now, I say "prawns" because apparently there was a little seafood identity crisis happening -- they were actually shrimp! The exterior doesn't do the restaurant justice. Inside, the dining room and patios are beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. There's plenty of space for both small and mid-sized groups. The food was fabulous! We started with the calamari, which was honestly some of the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We also ordered the seasonal Caprese (tomato stack) salad, which was incredibly fresh with a wonderful combination of flavors. Even the complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar stood out. The balsamic was so good I forgot to ask what brand they use so I could buy some for home! Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. When I ordered the fettuccine with steak, she thoughtfully confirmed whether I wanted the Gorgonzola Alfredo or the traditional Alfredo sauce. I chose the traditional Alfredo, and it was absolutely perfect. I shared it with my daughter, so the photo shows about half of the original portion. Everyone at our table loved their meals. The rotisserie chicken received rave reviews as well, although I forgot to take a photo. If the weather is nice, don't miss the outdoor patios. There's a table for six near the fireplace that looked especially inviting. I wanted to take a picture, but I couldn't get the angle without including other diners in the frame. I also tried the watermelon martini, which was refreshing and delicious, and the wine pours were generous. If you're in Aptos, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. We'll definitely be back.

In hindsight, that's partly on me since seafood fettuccine isn't exactly a dish I usually expect to be exceptional anywhere. The Alfredo sauce was bland and needed a lot of pepper to bring some life to it. Most of the seafood was overcooked and chewy, particularly the fish. The clams were probably the best part of the dish and were cooked reasonably well. Overall, the view was fantastic, but beyond that, the meal didn't do much for me. Between the slow service and underwhelming food, this ended up being one of the worst meals I had on my trip.

Loved the bright windows, open concept, clean aesthetic with seaside color vibe, and the VIEW!…read moreThere is a reason half the walls are glass: so you get a view of the beach and, depending on when you're there, the sunset. Venus is a fine dining establishment but the wait times for service once we were seated and cold service were unexpected at such a nice place. This was our first time here, so hopefully we caught this server on a bad day. She also brought out our appetizers and entree at the same time, which was shocking. Due to this, we felt like we had to eat quickly so the entree didn't get cold. We often order several plates and share all the time, and never has any other restaurant brought every dish out at once before! This was the first. **THE DETAILS** Venue: 5 stars The venue is quite beautiful. You can't beat a place that is on the same street as a beach! Location: 5 stars It is literally AT Rio Del Mar Beach! Parking wasn't terrible, but the lot is tiny, so I can see it becoming difficult to park at certain times. Crab coquettes: 1 star It was so dry, I couldn't even finish one of them. It was hard to eat. Also, you can smell the crab, but you don't taste it. I did appreciate that our server gave us a heads up that these coquettes are not made like crab cakes, but we still didn't know this was a red flag warning to not get them. (Consider this a warning, my friends!) Instruction for eating: each bite must be followed by 3 gulps of beverage. Calamari: 2 stars I looooove calamari, but the ratio of squid-to-batter was off. There was too much batter, and it was thick and over-fried that with each bite, you don't get to enjoy the squid. If you want something crunchy and salty though, this appetizer is it. Miso salmon over coconut rice: 3 stars The salmon was tender and flaky, and cooked well. The skin was crunchy and flavorful. The coconut rice, however, was very mushy, like it was cooked with too much liquid. This was a disappointment because we ordered the miso flavors of the salmon knowing it would pair well with the coconut rice, but the texture of the rice was that of baby food. The bok choy was fresh and added a brightness to the dish. All in all, it was an okay dish, but not for something costing over $30. Cocktails: 5 stars All were delicious. (Venus makes their own gin!) Service: 1 star Slowwwww like molasses. Other than seating us, which was an our fault for not having reservations, we had to wait over 15 mins for a server to acknowledge we existed, then another 15 mins to get water after she said she was going to bring us water. It was a hot day, and there was no breeze or air conditioning in the restaurant, so I mentioned to our server that I was very thirsty, but we sat there for 30 minutes at an empty table with just our menus. It was perplexing. Like I mentioned earlier, the appetizers and entree were all brought out together, which made us feel rushed to eat faster so the food wouldn't get cold. (The server should have asked if that's how we'd prefer to be served and not assume this.) Different people, not only our server, would place items on our table, like drinks, and each person did it without saying anything and without smiling. They also placed items down on the table startlingly hard. (I made a joke to my friend that they don't like us here the first time it happened, but when this happened multiple times, it was no longer funny.) **OVERALL** I think the scene is great (venue/location) and drinks are great. The food items can be hit or miss. The vibe, however, is what YOU make of it because the service is lacking. Table service needs re-training. I think Venus is a good place to go for the bar and maybe some bar food only.
