What a great place! We had our two pups in tow and they loved the set up! They were able to lounge while we ate! The food was fabulous, the service spot on (even when they closed in 30 min). Maybe we came on a bad day? We came last Sunday (9/11/22) Cute cafe but very understaffed and unorganized. Be prepared for average food, unhappy employees, and long wait times. The cafe itself is adorable, loved the decor and little details inside. The name of the cafe is very fitting as it matches perfectly with the decor and overall theme inside. This is a very popular and busy cafe, so be prepared to wait. The wait time to be seated wasn't bad. For a table of 2 we only had to wait 15 minutes. The wait for the food however was horrible. We could see the tables around us getting impatient and frustrated over the wait times as well. I took a photo of my coffee that I ordered and took another photo of our food once it arrived. Looking at the time stamps on the photos, there was over an hour time period between when we received our drinks vs when we received our meals. If you read other reviews, you'll see that unusually long wait times are a known issue at this location. The hostess working the front door wasn't welcoming or friendly. She seemed very irritated and overwhelmed and she projected that onto customers. She was also the one taking drink orders and each time she approached a table there was never a "Welcome in, how are you" or anything along those lines. She made us feel like she didn't want us to be there. Every employee seemed miserable and overwhelmed. The only one that seemed happy to be there was a younger man with long blonde hair. He was personable and attentive. Our server was friendly, however our table was neglected entirely. She didn't check on us throughout the entirety of our visit, was never offered refills on our drinks, etc. As others have stated, you can see plates of food ready to be served at the kitchen window and they will sit there for 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer) before being acknowledged and taken to tables. The food itself was okay. Definitely not worth the long wait times or crappy service. The salmon in my eggs benedict was overcooked, dry, and flavorless. Which was a bummer considering how they advertise it with "exotic Carribean spices" The baby cakes tasted like the ones you get out of the freezer section of Costco. Nothing special. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of how cute the cafe was inside and because the iced seasalt & caramel mocha was delicious. While on a family vacation we found a few spots we thought would be good. This place was busy(ish) around 10-11am. Waited over 10min to get greeted but eventually got our seats outside as there weren't any available inside. It was a bit chilly as the fog was still over us. The ordering time was horrible. Either more servers need to be hired or perhaps someone needs to pick up the pace. Once someone came to take our drink order, we ordered some hot chocolate but unfortunately it wasn't hot at all. A while later, the waitress came back to take our food order and again took a while for that too. She removed our hot coco mugs but didn't offer any refills whatsoever. Once food arrived, the food was presented beautifully but unfortunately it lacked flavor: French toast tasted tasted blend. The breakfast burrito would've tasted 10x better if the chicken was replaced with sausages!! Definitely not worth what we paid which was over $100. Yikes! Over all the experience was "ok". We were visiting from out of town, staying at a beach house in La Selva. I actually googled a good breakfast place. This one came up so we were willing to give it a try. I have to say the food was absolutely delicious, and the waitresses were very sweet. Both my husband and my daughter got a scramble. More food than they could eat and yummy. My son-in-law ordered the eggs Benedict with salmon. He said it was delicious too. I had the calamari sandwich and it was not only huge but very good! I've been coming here for over 30 years! This is one of my favorite breakfast spots ever and I always make a trip when I'm visiting family in Aptos. I always love the eggs Benedict but this time they had a new one I hadn't tried-crab cakes and avocado and it's my new favorite. We also got the cheese blintzes which isn't something you can find anywhere these days and they were just the right level of sweet for me. Service was good, always enjoy the art on the walls. And their breakfast potatoes have been the standard by which I judge all breakfast potatoes so don't miss out on those. read more

My sister asked me to meet her for brunch today and even though most experiences I've had here were subpar, but I thought "what the hell, let's give it another try". We walk in around 12ish, and NOT ONE waitress acknowledged us. We stood there for about over 5 minutes waiting to ask to be seated. Nothing. They clearly saw us standing at the door. So I had to get their attention to finally be seated. When we were seated it was right next to the kitchen which was loud and annoying. Then a lady, I'm assuming a manager or maybe even owner comes up to us and starts moving our table away from the wall so it doesn't scratch it. Okay whatever, you don't want your walk scratched but maybe warn us you're going to move the table we are using, and realize that the way you setup that specific table, it's right in the way of the kitchen walkway where every server is basically rubbing up against us to get by with their tables' orders. Things have gone downhill at Red Apple! I've been a loyal customer for many years. I always thought of it as a reliable, pleasant restaurant with "good enough" food (it was never spectacular, to be honest). But on the last couple visits, my food was downright bad. The first time this happened, I contacted the restaurant to let them know something was wrong in the kitchen. I got a tepid apology from the manager. Okay, I thought, a restaurant can have a bad day. But the next time I ate here -- a couple days ago -- the chicken in my dish was like shoe leather. The prices have climbed at Red Apple, while the quality has declined precipitously. I won't be eating here again. (I think other longtime customers have noticed the change in quality because there were too many empty tables, at a place that used to be always busy.) read more

The waitress we had was so rude, kept making judgmental faces to my niece (who is 2), and did not check in on us at our table at all. Horrible horrible service. The setting is beautiful plenty of room for the kids to run around as well as dogs while your waiting for your name to be called. And once it's called you will be very happy. This little restaurant does the most basic so well your food is going to arrive at your table hot not warm I mean hot the kind of hot where when you sink your knife into your food steam escapes and when you take your fork and and "dig in" you will notice the steamy billows rolling off your first forkful. The second thing you will notice that is if you pay attention is you won't hear any loud yelling of "orders up" for as crowded as the kitchen is there is a quiet rhythm to it all. We waited for 20 minutes after getting seated. No one shows up. My sons has class so he went inside and asked for the service. Shortly after he came back, server come and get the order. Bad food !! Pancakes were not good. Syrup was bad. Scrambled eggs were terrible. Hard texture. Wife's French toast wasn't very good even covered in whipped cream and strawberries. Lemonade was watered down Crystal Light . Bacon was okay. Staff was friendly. I'm not picky at all about breakfast food either. I could only eat about half. I never toss left overs but these are going in the trash. I don't understand how such a basic breakfast could be so bad. I typically will not leave a bad review because I know how hard the small business owner is working to stay afloat, BUT since this place is technically a chain, and my wife picked it out, I figured that I just need to be bluntly honest. We were seated in the time frame they gave us by a girl that looked like she was 12. She asked us for drinks and we asked for waters, a coffee and an iced tea. She came back with one water and a coffee. My wife asked for cream and kind of got a look for asking. We placed our orders and waited. The server finally brought out the cinnamon roll to pacify us because I think he felt we had been waiting awhile. It was ok. A few minutes later we got our breakfast. I ordered the Traditional Benedict. The Benedict itself was lukewarm. That however was the worst of it. The flavor of the Benedict was good and their country potatoes are excellent. As for my wife, she ordered two eggs over medium, bacon, potatoes and sour dough toast. The potatoes and eggs were very good, but the bacon was burnt beyond crisp. The toast...well it was non-existent so we had to ask for it. All in all, while our server was nice, the service wasn't spectacular and the food was just ok. Moral of the story is that I should go back to picking the restaurants and only stick to ones with 4 or more stars. read more

Here is the Blackened Salmon eggs Benedict. It was VERY yummy. I LOVE blackened anything. Something about the carribean salty spice. It came with a healthy portion of country potatoes. Along with that, is the Stuffed Apple French Toast which tasted like apple pie and was bigger than my friend's head.
