Best breakfast spot in Aptos! This is definitely a local hideout. Hidden above Deluxe foods shopping center is this brunch spot gem. Every time I'm in town, I've gotta make a pit stop here. It's been here forever and the quality is always good. Some of our favorites are the BLTA(add avo), the omelettes, fresh muffins, and the salmon scramble. And they have lots of room to sit outside when the fog finally burns off. But be aware- brunch on the weekends means a long wait here to get a table. Contrary to its name, the Red Apple Cafe does not serve food made out of apples. What it does serve is delicious, home style cooking with great customer service. The decor is so sweet and it feels like you are in somebody's home. The space is a little crowded, but it's cozy and adorably decorated. The customer service is stellar. Our waitress was super helpful, funny and kind. I didn't catch her name but she was awesome and helped us navigate the huge menu. The food here is also delicious. As mentioned before, the menu is gigantic and a little overwhelming at first, but the dishes on it are really good. I ordered a Ruben sandwich with sweet potato fries. It was the best Ruben sandwich I have had in a long time. The corned beef wasn't too salty, there was a lot of meat on the sandwich, there wasn't an overpowering flavor of thousand island dressing, and the sauerkraut complemented all the other components perfectly. The sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious. The portions were also the perfect size and the prices weren't too high for the amount and good quality of the food. I will be back when I'm craving a good Ruben or to try something else on their big menu. read more

The short: they kicked me and my pregnant wife out because we had coffee with us that we didn't purchase there. The Long: My wife is 8 months pregnant and so her energy levels are all over the place. We'll this morning she needed a cup of coffee to get going before we went to get breakfast. We stopped and got a cup at the local coffee shop. Upon arriving at red apple cafe they sat us and then told us that they can hold the coffee my wife was drinking in the back for us until after we eat or we could leave. I'd understand if we brought our own food in but a cup a coffee? This place used to be better. The last few times we have been here the food tasted like they just put it in the microwave. This last visit with the rude customer service is the last straw. There's so many options, I recommend trying something else read more

My husband and I were heading to Monterey on Hwy 1 and made two futile stops in other towns looking for a place to have lunch before we got off in Aptos and discovered Red Apple in a convenient shopping center. Even though we prefer eating outside, the wait was too long but we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the indoor setting was. Not loud and the tables were a nice distance apart. Plus it had some very interesting decorations. The menu was huge and we split a delicious omelette. Even though it was busy, service was prompt and we were on our way. Unfortunately, I left my camera there and didn't find out until we got to Pacific Grove. It was too far to drive back, so I called and was transferred to a very helpful woman who took all my information even though the restaurant was very busy at that time. We worked out a way for me to pay for shipping it, and within 2 days it was back at my house. This isn't just good service, it's great service. Really disappointed about my breakfast here. I wanted to do a cute breakfast date with my potty training toddler and before finishing half our food my toddler had to go to the bathroom. We were there maybe 5 minutes and when we came out our table was cleared. I was disappointed but assumed it was because I didn't say anything (looking back, no I shouldn't have had to tell the waitress I was going to the bathroom). They gave me the check at the bar and I paid taken aback and not really knowing what to say but by the time I walked out the door my toddler asked for more food. My wife and I found this cafe in October of 2020. We were there for our 42nd wedding anniversary and really liked it. Since that time we have been back several times. Saturday my wife, daughter and I went there for a late lunch. My daughter is 6-1 and over 325 lbs. The hostess seated us outside....it was my daughter's first time sitting outside. They have plastic chairs with arms. My daughter could squeeze into the chair but had concerns that it would not support her weight. As it turns out she was right...I looked up the chairs afterwards (commercial grade outdoor restaurant chairs) and their weight limit was 300 lbs. We asked if we could use one of their indoor wooden chairs (which she has used before) and the hostess said the manager would not allow it....that the wooden chair would damage the concrete exposed aggregate? Never heard of such a thing. I went to my SUV and carted a Yeti camping chair up the stairs and replaced the plastic chair so she would not be harmed. Sunday my wife and daughter returned. My wife had purchased a Starbucks small coffee and was sipping on it on their drive over the the restaurant. This time that sat inside. The server approached her and said they do not allow drinks from the outside into the restaurant. My wife literally had two sips left. Rather then tell her she could just finish the coffee...or walk outside and finish it the server just took it. My wife was really surprised as the server did not even ask if she could take it. In fairness....we found the food to be excellent. We always order eggs benedict when we go there and they are always perfect. Also...on our previous occasions there we had no problems. IMO....the decision of the manager to not allow my daughter to sit in a more comfortable and safer chair amounted to body shaming. Shame on them. read more

Today, I took my mom there, and we sat outside for over 30 minutes (no water, no coffee nothing)! This party of 8 shows up (after about 25 minutes sitting there with no attention). Had bacon and eggs and the Deer Park Scramble with the housemade chocolate chocolate chip muffin.Portions were generous, bacon was too salty for our taste but everything else was delicious, potatoes done just right, cheese melted to perfection. No one could fault that plump gooey muffin. Our coffee cups didn't stay full, but in their defense I drink coffee pretty steadily at breakfast, and I did have at least 4 cups. Gosh I want to like this place. We've been 3 times and decided its just not worth the wait, the cold food or the surly waitresses. Its definitely "cliquie" - like clearly regulars are treated much differently than other patrons. I observed this all 3 times I was there. I observed many tables seated well after us receive their orders in no time. The shortest wait I've experienced was 45 minutes. During that time, no drink refills or follow up of any kind from the sour faced waitress. Last time I had to ask for silverware 3 times and finally walked behind the server station and got it myself - at which time I was reprimanded by "sour face"... "YOU CANT COME BACK HERE!" I said I've never had worse service anywhere" To which she replied "then go somewhere else". We walked out - didn't finish the cold breakfast and I did not pay the bill. If you want to overpay for cold mediocre food and be treated like garbage - be sure to check this place out. As for me - I'll go to the Silver Spur from now on. read more

I have visited twice since the first review. The last time we visited early on a Sunday morning and we're apart of a large group. They would let up move the tables together so we had to sit at separate tables however we had to pay on the same bill?? Nonsense! As I was seated I asked for a coffee. 20 minutes went by and other tables were seated all around us and they all had drinks and yet I still didn't have my coffee. Finally after 25 minutes our food came out and still no coffee.. I finally received my coffee a few minutes after receiving my food WTF... don't mess with a lady and her coffee. Nice place. Plenty of outdoor seating with a good distance from other tables and a nice view, and lots of benches in the general area if you find yourself waiting for a table. But, I went on Saturday at noon and while there were plenty of people, there were still a few tables left to seat new arrivals immediately. Food portions are extremely generous, definitely two full meals worth unless you're a 200lb linebacker, so considering that the prices are pretty reasonable. I got the bacon omlette with avocado and found it a little underseasoned (not sure what would have helped, onion powder? Red pepper flakes? Herbs of some kind?), but the potatoes were excellent. My partner also got the apple crumble french toast, which was very sweet and had the interesting addition of a corn flake coating to make it crunchy. All in all a good place, will be back. read more

The location was excellent. It's located on the second story of a market/commercial building, so there's tons of free parking. There's an escalator that goes to the second floor, along with a staircase. I didn't see a ramp, but I wasn't looking for one. The outside seating area is open and covered by one of those unfinished "barn" structures. It was a beautiful day, and it helped shade us from the sun. The customer service was fantastic. They were kind/fast/and helpful (I asked for more water and it was immediate). All of that is worth the three stars. The missing two is because of the food. I got the vegetable potato plate and my husband got an omelet. It's possible that these are not traditional/most gone for plates. But these were: bland. Brat diet bland. I don't smoke and have sensitive taste buds and I tasted no seasoning. None. I ate the eggs and vegetables with a fair amount of salt and Tabasco. My husband ate his omelet but we both left the bulk of the potatoes because they were tasteless except for the crispy/overcooked parts. All in all, I would not pay for this plate again. I did not complain or ask for something else bc: COVID. it's possible that this is due to limited seasonings/help/ or some other covid related supply issue. The coffee and cappuccino was Dennys coffee, so I wasn't able to enjoy it as I was sober. My husband used 5 creamers and all of the sugar packets to add taste, that wasn't bitter water. Again, I'm sure people don't go here for the coffee. I might go for a juice if I went again. The portions were large. Like huge. So, if you go for quantity: this is for you! I wanted to like this. But I did not. If you are from out of town and looking for flavor this might not be your spot. If you are looking to fill up and can do without seasoning-this is your space.
