    Tuna croissant
    Sarah L.

I love the Troy location, so I was so glad to hear about their Rochester location! This restaurant is significantly bigger but still has the same homey feel and delicious food. Same amazing menu and attentive staff. This time I got the tuna croissant. Very generous portion and not too heavy. I love their French fries and ranch! Definitely would order again. They have a parking lot in the back and it's off the Main Street so it's not too crowded. This location has a liquor license, so they serve mimosas, Bloody Mary, etc.

The first time we came here, everything was awesome. The second time, i took my family here on Father's Day and boy was it a 180. We got there right when they opened at 8am and our food wasn't brought to us until 8:50. We ordered 2 omelettes and pancakes so it was actually concerning how long it took. When we got our food the pancakes were cold and hash browns were barely cooked. Service was an absolute train wreck. We had to ask for side plates for the blackberry biscuits and then she brought us 2 dinner plates with our actual meal for no reason. She also handed my husband the bill ON FATHERS DAY- how comical! Then, somebody else had to cash us out. Further, a couple that came in nearly 15 minutes after us left before we did which was even more concerning. We won't be back.

I love the location in Troy. Tried the Rochester location today. The menu is great here and prices are reasonable. They have such interesting menu items. We love the blackberry biscuits and Asian options, especially the Pan-Asian Noodle. If you're thinking breakfast, the skillet options are diverse and filling. The wait was pretty long today, 35 minutes to get our food after ordering. It wasn't busy in there on a weekday lunch. I would go back to the Troy location next time, I think the staff is much friendlier and things move faster there.

Had an awesome brunch at Recipes! The spinach and sprouts omelet was huge and delicious, and I swapped the sprouts for crispy French fries--so good! The Vietnamese iced coffee was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, with friendly service that made me feel right at home. Can't wait to come back!

Cute breakfast spot with a Troy and Rochester location. I've been here maybe three times and this is a review of the visits. Five stars for free parking in a lot behind. Three stars for service. It's never been stellar. Five stars for having one vegan item on the menu. It's a tofu scramble with vegan sausage. The gross part is they leave the plastic casing on the sausage. You're supposed to remove it before cooking. So every time I order this I have to pick off the casing. Second gross thing is the guacamole on all of our plates was brown. Not fresh. I told myself it was frozen and tried to eat it. Not appetizing at all. Lastly, if you order the vegan dish you will get butter on the toast that comes with it. No thought from the servers or chefs to ask or remove it. The food is three stars. You can make a better scramble at home. The juice is not fresh and the grapefruit is neon pink. They do have a liquor license for mimosas if you're interested.

I had a great time at Recipes for brunch with friends and will definitely be back! Our group arrived at 12:30 for brunch on a Sunday and had no wait. All the staff were really friendly and happy to answer menu questions. The Santa Fe vegan hash skillet was delicious. It was nice to enjoy brunch somewhere out where you can also hear each other talk and not be interrupted by crowds of people screaming for bottomless mimosas. There is plenty of parking in the back but a few street spots are available in front but fill quickly so plan to park behind. There are a couple of front porch tables for outdoor dining with small groups. Diverse menu from omelettes to sandwiches, good food and great family-friendly place for breakfast and brunch.

To say I was underwhelmed here would be an understatement. This place presents itself as a nicer breakfast joint, which to some degree it is, but I left feeling disappointed after my breakfast here this morning. Walking in, the place is spacious and well decorated. Lots of seating and plenty of staff wandering about. I got seated at a 4 top and reviewed the menu for a bit while waiting for my server. On average, most of the food here runs about $15 give or take a dollar, which I had anticipated since I've been to their Troy location. I went with their Wild Bill omelet which they offer as one of their weekend specials. The problem was mostly service here while I dined in. Service was slow and non existent, which really affected my experience here. There was plenty of staff lingering about, but it seemed that only two of them were really working-and I use the word working since I was mostly ignored most of the time here. Anyway, my server never came over and I ended up having the hostess step in to take my order after waiting quite a while. After my food came out it looked and tasted really good, but not for $15. I would pay closer to $10 for this meal if it were up to me. It's far better than coney island any day, but not as good as other food that I've had at the same price point, easily. The final straw was at the end when I was waiting for my bill and a box for leftovers. At this point, my waitress spent more time hiding than actually helping. All the other servers were still standing around and I wanted to grab one of them to get more water and see if I could leave, but they ignored me as well. After standing up, it looks like they were ignoring most of the others in the restaurant as well. Eventually I found what looked like a manager and told her I needed to cash out and would like to leave. She took my cash with the bill and placed it on the counter, then leaving. Nice. Shortly thereafter my server eventually cashed me out and I got to finally leave. I know it's post pandemic at this point but this place doesn't appear to be short staffed, at least from this visit. Mostly they were standing around doing whatever. Food here's good, but not enough for me to really return in the future. Thanks Recipes, you really let me down. Get it together.

The menu is physically gigantic, that is why there are so many pictures. Beautiful restaurant on university between paint creek and main; there were only a few parties inside and the place felt even bigger than it is. We had very attentive wait staff and the whole setting was really nice. The food is just average though. At least the things that we ordered were. I got the Spanish omelette and my daughter got chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were weirdly flaky and dry, definitely not up to par with some of the places we've tried over the last few weeks. My omelette wasn't bad by any means. There was chorizo inside, it just was not seasoned it felt like. You don't get very much salsa with it. I'm sure I could've asked for more, just making an observation. I would come back for sure, but personally I will keep my expectations a bit lower.

First time brunching in Rochester downtown, this Recipes seems to be a lovely addition to the location. Love that on top of their already extensive menu, they have seasonal specials for you to enjoy. Visiting from Europe, I'm just going around to get my English muffin fix, so definitely went with that. The hash and the omelette were both done perfectly and was plenty of food. The chai tea latte I got also hit the spot, creamy, warm and just the right amount of sweet.

We had brunch here on a random summer Sunday. We didn't have any reservations, but walked right it at 915am. When you get here, you'll find that the parking is in back, but the host station is up front. Our food was excellent, especially the cinnamon French toast and our omlette. I recommend ordering the Recipe special which has eggs and French toast or pancakes along with a protein and potato. I also ordered a Bloody Mary that was excellent. The service was great, I liked the ambiance and there is plenty of seating for a variety of occasions. Overall, great experience and we will be back here again.

I found them a few weeks ago when I did a search of stores who actually sell loose leaf tea. The reason I like loose leaf tea versus the garbage sold in the stores is because it comes out way more flavorful, stronger and seems to taste a lot better than the stuff they sell at the grocery. I am also shocked that nobody else has been here before, as I know a few tea drinker who also happen to be active yelpers. Interesting. Anyway, the place is easy to find and right off fourth street and visible from the road. There is street parking, but a parking garage is literally right there on the other side of the street if you need it. As you know, downtown Rochester can get busy at times, so easy places to park is important. Walking in, not only is this place a tea store, but it also sells spices. They also have a ton of cool accessories to choose from throughout, which was really super cool to look at. I've also been on the hunt for the individual honey sticks that seem to be hard to find. Not only do they have the honey sticks, but they came in a variety of flavors? Like flavored honey? Exciting! I just grabbed a packet of regular honey sticks which are sitting in my kitchen now. The spice area has a much larger selection of items, from different varieties of salt, but other seasonings as well. I didn't really study the selection as the place was busy but let me tell you, there's a lot! I went to the tea section and they have all sorts of teas to choose from. I wanted something more citrus/lemon/herbal since I have a sinus infection, but I also wanted to see what else they have. Great selection, pre bagged but make sure you have the steeper's at home. If not, they sell them here too. Service was great, and the staff was knowledgeable. Nobody asked me if I needed help or followed me around the store, but when I did talk to them at check out, these people really seem to be tea oriented and educated on the product. While they aren't cheap by any stretch of the imagination (more along the lines of Starbucks pricing) they are worth every penny. I will be back in the future and I wish they did a better job of advertising!

The people working here seemed nice, but I do not love paying 3% to use my card for tiny donuts. That really puts the price a bit above what I want to pay. The place is super cute with a couple tables to sit. I like that they have fun coffee drinks and dirty sodas. We had a honey cold brew, it was far, probably a 2. I would consider trying a dirty soda next time. The donuts were a 5. We eat had two. The donuts tasted like cider mill donuts, a bit dense, but freshly made, sweet with a slight crunch. I loved the toppings. I got M&M and lucky charms marshmallows. So good. We also got peanut butter, peanut butter and jelly, and butterfinger. I recommend all of the them. I will probably return and bring my other child next time. When you walk in, you are greeted with bright, lively colors, sweet smells, and a hum of noise coming from Papa Joe's. We were there after the morning rush so it wasn't busy. We were greeted by a young woman behind the counter that displayed a multitude of small donuts decorated in over a dozen ways. We chose to get a box of 6 to share along with S'mores Cold Brew iced coffees. Our 6 "funkadelic" choices were named: Magically Delicious, Raspberry Lemonade, Raspberry Truffle, Robert Brule, Heath, Wind, and Fire, and Salted caramel Macchiato. I was most excited for the Magically Delicious because it was topped with what looked like Lucky Charms marshmallows but they were not the same kind and the mushy consistency fell flat. Both raspberry donuts were flavored as described in their names and tasted really good. The Robert Bruce is a play on a crème brûlée dessert and they complete the donut when ordered so it has a wonderfully crunchy top. The last 2 were good but I couldn't really taste the salted caramel of the Macchiato one. I love the concept here because you can try a couple different flavors without wasting food or having dried up hockey pucks the next day. I'd like to try more flavors so we'll be back. Warning to those cashless crusaders - they do tack on a 3% fee for using credit so tapper beware.
