It was not too sweet, which made for easy eating after a big dinner. The cake was moist and the frosting/icing was light and airy. I am not sure how they managed to create so many levels of flavor in one Yule log cake, but they did. To the owner, based on reading others' critical reviews, It seems like you expect the way the world works to not to apply to you. Online reviews are not going to stop because they make you uncomfortable. Two stars on Yelp means "Could've been better". And that was my experience in your bakery. The week of Thanksgiving, I asked the person working at the counter if I could reserve a dozen dinner rolls to pick up the next day. I was told "no, just be here early tomorrow". So I bought my baked good somewhere else and haven't been back since. These reviews take time for your customers to write and you should be thankful for them. Ambiance is very cold; never been greeted with sincere kindness; just fake greeting. Quality is definitely European especially when you add cinnamon to the Tiramisu. I'm happy there is a new and true European Pastry shop a mile away, called La Dolce Vita. I came here to support a local women owned business for women's history month. It's a small bakery in downtown Rochester Hills located in the alley behind Main Street. Staff were friendly and helpful. I picked out a few treats to share with my women's group. I got a few treats for myself and I definitely want to come back and try some other items. I got a pistachio eclair. It was good but the inside cream was a little runny side. I would have liked to taste more of the cream but it all dripped out each time I bit into it. Heard about this bakery through the word of the mouth. We stopped here on the way for some Paint Creek trail walking. Place is welcoming and tidy and well located. Bread aroma is in the air, smiley faces behind the counter. My wife and I sat down for coffee and almond croissant. We liked the ambience and enjoyed our bite and sip. Left with a loaf of bread. At home, did an open face sandwich. Brie, slice of tomato, light salt, pepper, slice of pickle. That sandwich was excellent. I've lived in Rochester for about 5 years now & only just discovered this hidden gem! Like literally, a hidden gem. You can't see it from Main Street, there is no sign. There is one entrance in the back alley that leads into this warm, inviting space (unexpected religious posters & decorations aside). I have been to France, where I have tasted the best croissants of my life. These are nowhere near that, but I earnestly believe that these will be the closest I can get outside of France. I was in from out of town and looking for something delicious and unique to start my day. A local friend pointed me to Give Thanks Bakery saying, "This is the place!" Wow! He was not wrong. I enjoyed a perfectly flaky and buttery delicious almond croissant with a perfect cup if coffee. As I ate my croissant I was reminiscent of the fresh pastries I enjoyed a few years ago while at a little cafe in Karlsplatz in Munich. I brought some other items home and they too did not disappoint. The artisan breads were wonderful, as was the Bavarian pretzel with homemade German Obatzda (beer cheese). NOBODY knew what they were doing, and I had someone ask me "do you want to pay?", as I had been standing at the register for over 5 minutes waiting to pay. The Give Thanks Bakery & Cafe is the best place I never knew about. The entrance is hidden away in an alley to the west behind the stores on Rochester Road. This must be what it's like to be a member of a secret club, or a speakeasy! We just had lunch with friends and they mentioned a bakery their daughter told them about and suggested we go find it. Somehow we figured out where it was and went in. What we found was a very cool little bakery with lots of cool baked goods from breads to fancy pastries to Christmas Stollen and more. They also serve Drip Coffee, Espresso, Cappuccino, etc. The staff were very pleasant, knowledgeable, and helpful. It only has three small tables so relaxing there with a coffee and a treat can be challenging at times. We selected a number of delicious-looking pastries to take home for later; and then a table opened up, so we decided to sit with our friends to have coffee and a treat. And, as it turned out, this was not the bakery they were told about! But we'll be back! read more

This bakery is hard to find, based on the address alone. Per directions from their webpage, I learned the entrance was at the rear, off Walnut Blvd. Once you enter, you will be lured to the counter by your olfactory senses. Then your eyes will spy all the delicacies awaiting you. Sound dramatic? I can't help it! My only regret is that I didn't come earlier in the day to snag more pastries. I did get an almond croissant; probably the best I've ever had. The frangiapane filling is the best. (I only know the word from watching The Great British Bake Off show.) I also bought a pastry (pictured below) with a jam base and nutty texture wrapped in chocolate ganache. (It's name began with Nut-something.) It was big enough to share, so $4.95 is a fair price. I loved it! The bread rolls are fantastic too. I wish I came here when I first arrived during my stay with my mom in her new home. I paid a small fortune for it, and there were numerous cracks in the frosting, contacted them and sent photos, they said they would look into it, and get back with me, I never heard back from them.
