They had diagrams of how each style of coffee was made so you knew exactly what you were going to get. I got hung up on the flavor options as there seemed to be over 15 different ones! Pleasantly surprised by how many food & drink options this little cafe had!!! Came here on a Sunday around noon after a spray tan down the way because we were craving boba tea & coffee. Snagged a gluten free PB Cookie, strawberry shortcake latte, and lavender boba tea. DELICIOUS!!!! Prices aren't bad either! I wish there were more locations!! Parking: there is a structure just around the corner that offers FREE parking if under an hour. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the place was very small compared to its boasting number of customers. Being on the corner of a downtown area is an amazing location to drive in customers but the physical space is unfortunate for them. This is obviously not their fault whatsoever but highly encourage shopping around for a bigger location if/when a lease expires. read more

This was a few months back, but I still wanted to give them a shout out for everything about this coffee shop. Located right downtown, we went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. Long line but didn't bother us as we expected it. Service great, lattes were hot and good, store was clean and so was the bathroom. We were able to snag a table which I'm sure doesn't always happen when they're that busy. Did notice some people on computers which I'm ok with, but if it was me I'd offer up the extra seats to people when it's that crowded. Just saying....I don't remember the prices at that time, but we choose here because their prices were better than ANY OTHER COFFEE SHOP in that area. It was budget friendly for sure. This place has a really homey atmosphere and a good spot to grab a coffee or tea along with a pastry (lots of vegan friendly options here that taste good, so that's a plus). I really like that they have a signage/poster of the various different espresso-based drinks and the ratios of coffee/milk/water/whatever it contains. This time around, I just grabbed a hot blueberry tea which was OK. It has a strong blueberry flavor I liked. I also got a vegan blueberry and lemon bread slice which was pretty tasty. However, I did think it was too sweet. Given its incredibly cozy ambiance, I can see why this is a good casual hang out/study location. read more

Searching for Vegan Pastries and Breakfast items, I found the vegan sticker on the window and decided to see what was available. A breakfast sandwich option with a vegan sausage, vegan cream cheese, and vegan everything bagel or vegan plain bagel. Other vegan items available were the vegan banana bread, vegan peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, and vegan muffins. Alternative milk options for lattes and teas as well makes this a solid vegan spot to check out! Only challenge is needing to find some street parking at $1.25/hr, or add a block walk from the parking garage on the street behind. Nice atmosphere for light socializing or relaxing by the small fireplace to catch a short break. If you have more vegan sweet craving, the Sanders Chocolates store across the street has a vegan dark chocolate salted carmel waiting for you, as well as a great variety of Kars Trail mixes. read more

I ate dinner downtown, enjoyed walking around to see the lights, and then stopped into Bean & Leaf for the first time to grab a warm drink with coworkers. It was busy, but not incredibly loud. Like I often do I asked the employee behind the counter how his night was going and he didn't seem incredibly unhappy but he wasn't thrilled to be there either. Whatever. I ordered 4 large drinks, and they were ready quickly. Tasted good. We were there for about 15-20 minutes, not paying attention to the time, and the same employee (older man) came out from behind the counter shouting "WE CLOSE AT 9 O'CLOCK, WHICH IS RIGHT NOW!" and shut off the lights to the "Open" sign. It was definitely an angry shout and not a good mannered "I'm trying to get everyone's attention" voice. It was incredibly awkward. I highly suggest they get a "countdown" clock that customers can see how many minutes until close, or make an announcement 5, 10, or 15 minutes before closing. It could have been easy to have let me know when I ordered that you were closing shortly. Yes, I could have looked at the door when I walked in and looked at my phone to check the time but I was enjoying the company I was with. I have no reason to ever go back. read more

Extremely disappointed I'm hoping I just caught them on an off day. we Got a coffee and latte and neither had any flavor. No coffee no Carmel no cream. Tasted like warm water. Really miss this place in downtown Royal Oak. The blue and yellow tea was always my go to here, although they were not affiliated with each other at all. Went with the seasonal drink - french toast latte. I usually don't get sweet drinks but this one spoke to me. I asked for it to be as skinny as possible LOL. It was delicious. I also got the yogurt/fruit parfait. It had a lot of granola on it. The yogurt was very sweet on its own, heads up. I ate the whole thing. They have a little station with spoons and stuff for your coffee. A couple people were sitting inside, enjoying. We opted to take it to go. They have grab and go items if you're in a hurry. Bean and Leaf Cafe located in downtown Rochester is the perfect little spot for a coffee and pastry! The friendly staff greets you when you enter, is willing to explain the menu and whips it up quick. I love having the options of boba tea, hot or cold coffee beverages, tasty pastries, or even panini sandwiches! They even have vegan and gluten free items. I work from home so I came in to work for the afternoon and enjoyed my time at the cafe. Lunch time certainly gets busy but the rush didn't last too long. I did have wifi issues towards the end of my visit but luckily for me I was wrapping up my projects and didn't lose any data. Parking downtown is always a ~treat~ so keep that in mind and just plan to walk a few minutes. I will definitely be back and look forward to my next visit! read more

Pure nostalgia. My sister and I used to come here all the time, get a Thai tea, and study. The atmosphere is quite conducive for either studying or hanging out. I've never really tried anything besides the Thai tea :P but the location is also great since it's right in the middle of downtown Rochester. Staff are also super nice. Highly recommend! Always a clean, quiet place and a good option for tea or coffee. I love that the signs clearly mark what's inside of each type of coffee so people don't waste time and ask questions when they get up to the register. I have been here a bunch of times now, and I had awesome service each time. This coffee shop has a diverse menu outside of coffee. They also have smoothies, milkshakes, and more! The atmosphere here is much more relaxed than other coffee shops. I like on how it is not so dim with their lighting as other coffee shops tend to be. The seating is comfortable too and a majority of the tables have outlets right next to them which makes it convenient when doing my homework. I have ordered multiple things off of the menu, but my favorite drinks thus far would be the Lemon Freeze and the Arnold Palmer. Recently it has been extremely humid, and both of these drinks were refreshing to cool me off. The Lemon Freeze had the right amount of sweet in it. The Arnold Palmer was made by them; I asked the cashier prior to ordering if it was just the can version or made by them. It also had the right amount of sweet to it, and it looked really cool before I mixed it up. This is a place that I would definitely recommend to others to try. read more

It was pretty busy on a Wednesday afternoon when I went. They had many vegan options, which I really appreciated. I've been to their Royal Oak location before and had some nice tea (and got free hot water refills so I could re-steep) and read a book. This location was more popular and smaller, but had a lot more options. I got Vegan Banana Bread, that was really nice and moist, and a Vegan Chocolate Chip Cupcake, which was really good and it kind of reminds me of those Hostess Cupcakes? Just without a filling, the frosting was really sweet. I can definitely see myself stopping by again to try a vegan crumble bar, yogurt parfait, or chocolate chip bar. Update: stopped in after a counseling appointment down the block to use the rest room and picked a vegan berry crumble bar- delicious! I would've stayed in longer but I had some parking problems. The music was on point too- Aerosmith!!! Really like this little Update: stopped in before a therapy appointment and got a really yummy Vegan Chickpea Salad Sandwich! Also talked to the alternatively-styled barista about how hard it is to get a job when you look unconventional. Staff is always super nice and polite. The vibe of bean & leaf is great-very small town college atmosphere. They have a cute little fireplace with plenty of seating throughout the place. I typically see a lot of people studying or small groups discussing while sharing pots of tea. My go to is the green tea latte. Really good, not too sweet and refreshing. Makes a nice Americano. Back-end, Bean & Leaf support their employees. Baristas are thoroughly trained and those eager and qualified provided experiences outside of the traditional. Lessons learned spent in-person in places like Guatemala and Honduras relating to those who source and farm the beans. Learning not by / for some guy or gal in a dark room, but by the folks who are making your drank & for the customer. Highly recommended. read more
