RE: The restaurant Owner does not deserve you as his customer! The food was superb, Mr. R., the owner, is the reason we won't return! My wife & I went for a special dinner to what we thought, from our first visit several months ago & the hype, was a special place. The food did not disappoint. The sauces on the sweetbreads appetizer & the rabbit entrée were especially great. My wife was unhappy about the table next to us being broken down & remade for no apparent reason. On a trip to the ladies room, she expressed her dissatisfaction to the man in charge, expecting him to be apologetic & offer a glass of wine or something for Goodwill. He replied NO, we don't do that. Later after my wife left the restaurant, I asked the waiter who my wife spoke to, it turned out to be Mr. R, the owner. I told him that the food was great, but suggested to him that when a patron goes out of their way to express their dissatisfaction, a good businessman does not leave the customer with a NO. You say, sorry you weren't satisfied, let me give you a dessert, cappuccino, something ... you don't leave them with a NO. He told me we don't give anything away, you don't need to come back! I would have come back, I'd like to go back for the food. A restaurant Owner so blind to their customer's satisfaction or so short sighted or desperate to retain every dollar ... does not deserve the next customer. I noted on the receipt a $20 deduct from the $60 tip, so unfortunately it was the waiter who paid for my wife's wine & the Owner's poor judgement. read more

The way the staff at Rebeccas treats you is simply unacceptable and certainly not what the expensive prices call for. Typical dining experiences at Rebeccas last at least 4 hours--about 10 minutes of which you actually have food in front of you. The prices are absolutely outrageous: I recall a single ounce of beef costing 25 dollars, meaning a typical steak would cost upwards of 200 dollars. As expensive as it is, the quality of the Filet and Desserts are great, but still not worth the value. This brings me to my next point, recently I wanted to take my mother to Rebeccas for a late dining experience to enjoy simply dessert for her birthday. She had always told me how much she loved the Baked Alaska; we thought only going for dessert could help us skip out on the unaffordable entree prices. Upon calling Rebeccas to place a reservation for a modest party of 5 to enjoy dessert, Rebecca herself answered the phone in a disgusting tone, "This is not an ice cream parlor, you would cause too much of a commotion, perhaps a smaller group of 2 or 3 could work." The fact that she would turn down service after we complimented her restaurant for having such great dessert shows makes it one of the least welcoming places I know. We never said that we thought of them as an ice cream parlor, and nothing we said would imply that we would disrupt anyone or anything in the restaurant. Needless to say, Rebecca regards herself as the owner of the greatest restaurant in the world and sees no reason to appeal to people who she views not worthy to dine at her restaurant. read more

The consensus is correct, the food at Rebecca's is worth a special trip, yeah even from NYC. The naysayers cannot deny Rebecca's attention to detail in terms of thoughtfully curated ingredients (wild caught fish, organic local greens, heritage/pasteur raised meats.) Their meat dishes do impress well more memorably than fish (ie the short-rib with fettuchini was so delish and became catnip to the young chambolle musigny, but the dover sole, while flavorful was much more pedestrian.) I loved my veal loin with sweet potato gnocchi -- my potato junkie gf approved the success of sweet spuds in place of the idaho variety and proclaimed the best she's ever had and I won't dispute that.) Certainly the 2 orders of half dozen Kumamoto oysters were the plumpest most uniformly sized offerings I've ever encountered anywhere and indeed the best I've ever had, including in Seattle's excellent Walrus and Carpenter etc (yes kids, best West Coast Oysters are found in Seattle, a West Coast seaport, for those educated in America k-12.) I have to fault the restaurant for it's eye brow raising prices, particularly for those dishes with black truffles -- it's baffling cuz unlike white, the black variety doesn't seem as rare or dear to cause such up charges ($125 risotto???) You can dine cheaper at Per Se, which is saying something!! Tbh, this is the mecca of those who arrive by Porsches (dime a dozen) and Bentleys (i counted 4 in the parking lot by the rear of the resto.) So, if you are a foodie but can't (or won't) afford to drive cars that cost 6 digits (and depreciate faster than oil & gas stocks the last two years) then this place is not for you. Which makes 99.9% of us writing and reading yelp reviews! One wouldnt be faulted for assuming a restaurant catering to Bentley sets would be stuffy, haughty and busiest at 5:30PM. Actually, the place was packed at 8:00PM and more amazingly the service (as noted by most) was spot on! It felt as though EVERY server was on the lookout for our every needs and the owner/hosts Rebecca and Reza seem to appear out of thin air to chat you up about what to order next on the wine list or to check on how you are doing. The ambiance is very casual, maybe less cool than just fun and energetic. Net/net, this is the longest yelp review i've ever written. I feel torn about what to rate this place given the $$$$ bills, but i do know that I am already scheming to come back here when the weather thaws (which might be in two weeks according to Siri's weather report.) read more

Impeccable service, cleanliness, excellent food and drinks. A very upscale restaurant in an upscale town. Make reservations, even though the menu prices are high, this place is very busy. We went and enjoyed a Christmas dinner on the 26th. They had classy decor up and the cutest cushions. I really enjoyed the butternut squash soup for appetizers and their warm bread was also impeccable. For dinner I ordered chicken and my husband had filet mignon. The filet was incredible, we would go back just for that dish! The chicken was unique but not a flavor I was used to. The best part of the dinner was the dessert. The creme brulee melted in your mouth and they gave a 9 piece sampler complimentary. It was truly a great Christmas dinner; very memorable and tasty. Why 4 and not 5 stars ... It has an ambiance that is a bit bright in a odd large rectangular room and if you sit along the wall, the table is too short and you are too high up. I've never written a review before, but this place is so beyond outrageous that I have found my motivation. I saw a review in Connecticut Mag naming them one of the top restaurants in CT so I decided to take my husband for his birthday. He had just returned from a 2 week business trip & with 2 kids under 2, we were both really looking forward to some adult time. We decided to venture out of our regular handful of favorite restaurants. First & foremost, the food is mediocre at best. My salad arrived & I thought "Oh, how interesting, sun dried tomatoes are making a come back." Then I took another bite & realized, no the palate was from 1992. Not very exciting or well executed. Incredibly overpriced for mediocre food (although there were no prices on my menu--only my husband's). I won't even go into the inherent sexism because, whatever it doesn't really blow my mind. But the real issue is that I have never felt so disrespected in my life (this blew my mind). I was raised with country clubs & cotillion & currently live in Westport, CT. I have no problem with the super privileged and the accompanying attitudes. I'm generally unfazed by it. But the staff at Rebecca's was far more disrespectful than anyone I have ever met. In all fairness, my husband & I were dressed far too hip for the ambiance of cardigans & sports coats. I would have been fine if they told us at the door that we didn't meet the dress code & turned us away. But the maitre d instead walked us across the dining room, turning around every 3 steps & stopping to stare us up & down with disdain. Once seated, the maitre d stood across the dining room for a good 15 minutes glaring at us. After holding his gaze for a few seconds, he finally scurried away & didn't return. The waiter, however, was not any better. My husband asked him a question about the slaw I believe. He did not answer the question, got flustered & stormed off. Clearly we were not a welcomed addition to the establishment...which all would have been fine if they did not allow us in. But to seat us & passive aggressively make us feel incredibly unwelcome & uncomfortable is just bizarre, insecure & incredibly immature. Just crazy, really. Our dinner did not arrive until the dining room was almost cleared of diners. During the whole experience, I was contemplating "do we leave?" "do we stay & ignore this insanity?" "do I say something?" In the end we left after eating our very mediocre, overpriced entree feeling worse for the wear. Both my husband and I are still baffled by the experience as we have navigated NYC, LA, CT, London with ease & aplomb. We enjoy top restaurants & nice things & have never encountered anything like the treatment we received that night in March. I will give a shout out to the pastry chef as the cookies that came with our check were by far the best part of the meal. read more

rebecca's is a great greenwich restuarant that's been around for years. a lot of times places like this slip over time, but i went here recently for my brother's birthday and the food & service are still impeccable. food is especially delicious - i live in the city so have been to a number of good restaurants but rebecca's remains one of my favorites - desserts never disappoint either! read more

Rebecca's is almost certainly the best restaurant in Greenwich, and perhaps the best in Fairfield County. The prices aren't cheap, to be sure, but the food quality and the service are both exceptional. They accommodated my celiac problem (gluten free) and I didn't get sick which happened before after many assurances:-( We skipped appetizer and the result was close to an hour wait.... Unacceptable! Although they try their best, can't helped the cramped feeling which takes away from the experience and superb food.... Give me the whole package or nothing is my philosophy. read more

We've been to Rebecca's before, but must say its taken a serious turn for the worst. To start, $40 for chicken is seriously overpriced, but for the waiter to not know whether we are least getting free-range chicken/meat or run-of-the-mill meat is pretty poor. The host was rude and pushy to my wife. The food was fine, but not worth the high prices when so many other good places have opened up with a better atmosphere and better food. We tried the tuna tartar, which had green peppers chopped in (not good) combined with some weird tomato coulis-type thing. I usually l love tomato type things, but this wasn't good and we each tried a little of it and passed. The steak and lobster was overcooked. The risotto was bland. All in, there is no reason to go here unless you remember when this place was better and don't feel like finding a new place. read more

My husband and I went to Rebecca's last night for dinner and were left wondering what all the hype was about. On entering the large white room with little atmosphere, one can't help notice the only view is of the very ordinary firehouse across the street. Although we went knowing that it was expensive, we couldn't help choking over the numerous $104 entrees! My husband had the froie gras with pear and pomegranate appetizer which was superb and I had the beet salad which was also excellent. As an entree, the halibut was excellent but the lamb for $45 was minuscule for the price and placed on completely flavorless vegetables. The waiter apologized for not being more attentive saying that they were very busy! Ha, should we get a discount??! At that stratospheric price level one expects excellent food, atmosphere, ambiance and service...this restaurant lacks most of those. honestly...i cant think of a better restaurant in greenwich, or the entire state. the food is just fantastic, no comparisons anywhere. seafood, game, salads really whatever is just incredible. only draw back is the price, but even then, its well worth it for a great meal. especially recommend for special occasions or a meal to impress! read more
