The owners Tim and Avie have always been kind and helpful and they always listen to feedback from their customers.

It used to feel like a chill hole in the wall full of cool people, now it feels very cold and depressing. The layout feels less intuitive to navigate, too but that's more of a nitpick. I used to play Digimon here between 2021 and 2023. They were generally fun and the players were mostly great, aside from the tourists who were only playing because they're mad at Magic and Pokemon, but that's not a conversation for a Yelp review about this store. My one complaint was how a lot of the employees were super elitist about it because it wasn't a popular "real" card game. Not even just saying that, an employee once straight up said I should "graduate to a real card game". I don't remember which employee it was, but the lack of self awareness of someone talking down to someone over TCGs astounds me. I remember two players having a ruling issue during a Digimon tourney and the same employee proctoring the games was very insulting and irritated the whole time, rolling his eyes, complaining and saying he didn't "understand this crap". It's bad enough that an employee does not know the rules of games they are proctoring at a game shop that's hosting the tournaments, but to have such a crappy demeanor? I know geeks are socially challenged, I'm not an exception to this but ffs try, it's your job man. Absolutely not something that makes you wanna come back. I briefly switched to SoCal Games and Comics (now Sanctum) after that, but my issue with that shop was the playerbase, not the employees. I've had some employees not know what they're doing regarding bonus packs that come with booster boxes before, and at least twice have had ones not given to me despite me visibly seeing them in stock. If you work at a game store you should know what releases come with what. That said, there was one employee who was excellent about it and props to him. That guy played Digimon, though, so that's likely why he knew what he was doing. Anyway, I still shop here from time to time but I don't really have a reason to come back now that they've stopped hosting Digimon tournaments in lieu of One Piece (Bandai treats the properties similarly!), which is fine considering the poor judging/proctoring. One Piece probably comes off more like a 'real' card game so best of luck and all. That event really left a bad taste in my mouth about this place, unfortunately. I will say the prices are good, they don't inflate them like other card shops do.

This store is unfortunately starting to feel more like a GameStop than a dedicated TCG shop. The…read morebiggest issue is the "Cultist" membership, which costs approximately $70 per month and, in my opinion, provides very little value for the average customer. The advertised benefits include access to sealed products at market pricing, 5% off singles, and entries into a lottery for the opportunity to purchase certain products at MSRP. However, these perks fall short when the store often has a very limited selection of singles available. Most of the binder inventory consists of heavily played or damaged cards, and there is rarely enough desirable inventory in-store to justify the membership cost. What makes this especially disappointing is that the store wasn't always this way. There was a time when they carried a strong selection of collectible cards and competitively priced sealed products. Today, the retail location feels more like a means to maintain distributor relationships than a store focused on serving the local community. While they are undoubtedly one of the largest names in the TCG industry, that reputation seems to come primarily from their presence at conventions and card shows. The physical storefront often lacks the inventory and customer experience that many collectors expect from a premier hobby shop. To their credit, they offer respectable trade-in values. Unfortunately, those trade-in percentages lose much of their appeal when there is little desirable inventory available to put that store credit toward. On the rare occasions that higher-end products or graded cards are available, the selection tends to be limited and often consists of less sought-after CGC or TAG slabs rather than cards many collectors are actively looking for. I genuinely used to enjoy visiting this store, which makes this review disappointing to write. However, based on my recent experiences, there are better local options for collectors and players looking for inventory, value, and an authentic hobby shop experience. Stores like Rizo and Tier 1 have done a much better job of maintaining the qualities that make a card shop worth visiting.

You pay a monthly fee that can only be spent in-store, but the selection is pretty limited, so you often end up using your credits on overpriced snacks. On top of that, unused credits don't roll over, meaning if you're not in the mood to overeat, there's not much else to spend your balance on. Pre-orders are an option, but even those can be unreliable. Honestly, you're probably better off painting/playing at home. Save yourself some $$$. Also, tried to resolve an issue and was completely ignored.

The way it was explained made it sound simple: place the preorder, apply your credits, and pick it up when it arrives. That's exactly what I expected -- a straightforward process with clear timing and communication. What actually happened was the opposite. The preorder felt unreliable from the start. There wasn't much clarity on when the item would come in, and updates were either vague or I had to chase them down myself. Weeks went by with no real information unless I asked, and even then the answers were inconsistent -- one person would say "it should be here soon," another would act like they weren't sure what I was even talking about. If you're thinking of using credits on preorders here, I'd be cautious. It might sound like a convenient option, but based on my experience, it was delayed, hard to follow through on, and way more work than it should've been.

Gamer's Haven is a relaxing place to play role playing games and such away from home with like minded people. Most of the gamers connect through the website meetup which shows the date and times gaming groups play. They regularly look for new players. The establishment has an extensive collection of roleplaying books for a variety of games. Think of it as a library of sorts only devoted to roleplaying. The owner/manager(s) (Dave) are thoughtful and considerate men who appear to run their business 1st to provide an atmosphere where grownups can enjoy each others company like a book or chess club only role playing games. Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Warhammer 40k, Rifts and card games like Exploding Unicorns and such. They have three private rooms for private gaming. The place is mature. You can bring your own beer as no one there is under 21 and everyone is polite. They have a membership program ($35 a month) but you can pay by the day ($5 a day). First day of play is free as a trail to see if you like it. They take cash, venmo, etc. They also have some paints and figurines if your into personalizing your character piece. Gaming materials (dice and such) for sale and can order. They even have a 3d print you can use by the hour (they charge by the hour). I like their snack section that comes with a number of candy bars, nuts, ramon, ice cream bars and drinks. They have a microwave, frig, and sink.the place is made up of 3 sections. The back appears to be dedicated to Warhammer 40k. They have free wi-fi at Gamer's Haven too. Overall I think the place is a must see once in your life as an alternative to the library. Your not in an awkward position of having people over late at night if you have kids and such. However, unlike the library their hours are open past 8 pm. I think members can stay after management leaves with membership access. They have security cc cameras inside and the doors lock after you leave. Atmosphere: 6 star. Clean. Fair temperature. Wifi Service: 5 star. Quality: 5 star. They have a gaming table with a monitor. A collection of gaming books. Value: not sure of the going rate in the industry. Still if one lives close enough and has they friend to play with its better than online gaming or watching TV

I contacted more than 30 hobby shops within a 100 mile radius of Los Angeles. After weeks of searching, I finally found one at Mike's Hobbies. They had a brand new, factory sealed blue TRX4 Sport High Trail in stock and ready to ship, which was a huge relief. The pricing was exactly what Traxxas lists, with no markup or added fees. That alone was impressive given how hard this model has been to find. The ordering process was smooth and communication was clear and professional. Shipping was fast and the packaging was excellent. The truck arrived in a very sturdy box with plenty of bubble wrap and extra packing paper to protect everything inside. It was clear that real care was taken to make sure the item arrived safely and in perfect condition. Overall, my experience with Mike's Hobbies was extremely positive from start to finish.
