Razza is great food, good service, nice people and ambiance thanks so much this was great!

This review is for a weekend dinner. I will preface this by saying this might have been an off night because I know many people rave about this place. Unfortunately, my experience was a bit disappointing. I came from Brooklyn and likely won't go out of my way to come back. Ambiance / Service: there are two entrances - the more open, bright modern area is the check in for take out and the other side that is much more dimly lit is check in for reservations. Ambiance is very casual. There's a very small bar with seating. Overall service was fine - waitress wasn't rude, but did not engage in any conversation with us at all aside from taking our order. Food: the reason for my 3 star review is solely the food. I'm a bit confused by my experience based on all the rave reviews. -Kale Caesar: this was not good. We didn't finish it. It had zero flavor and tasted like wet mayo on lettuce. Not quite sure what happened with this. -Meatballs: this has a lot of potential. Meatballs melt in your mouth and the sauce was good. It just needed more salt (we had to ask the waitress for salt for the table). -Pepperoni Pizza: best thing we ordered. I enjoyed this. -Corn Pie: I think this might be a seasonal item. This has potential, but was underwhelming. The pie was pretty dry: needed more shaved onions and more chili paste. Overall, I wouldn't go out of way to come here, especially with how many good pizza places are in Manhattan and Brooklyn (but again, could've been an off night for me). I would come here if I was already in the area and there wasn't a long wait. read more

We sat at the bar at Razza and really loved the cool ambiance. The service was top-notch, too, our server was super attentive and never let our water glasses get empty, which I really appreciated. As for the food, the bread tasting was a great way to start. We ordered the Calabrese pizza, which had a perfect balance of spicy heat and cheese, but the Hazelnut pizza was the real surprise. It was so good and sweet, it honestly tasted just like kettle corn! Definitely grab a seat at the bar if you can. read more

We arrived at 3:04pm and they open at 3-there was already a line. We were able to get seating, but only at the bar. Worst seating ever. My partner is 6'1, and if sitting comfortably, his heels aren't able to touch the ground. My legs dangled awkwardly and the woman sitting next to me gave up and just stood. There is no ledge on the bar or on the chairs to rest your feet on. Besides the constant discomfort, the service was good, the food was good. The special corn pizza was very good, the yellow tomato margherita pizza lacked a little flavor. A little bigger than a personal pie, the prices are a bit high for what they are. About $26 for each pizza to feed one person. read more

RAZZA won my heart. All things are great here: salads, pizza, and even dessert!! Kale Caesar was the perfect starter and the portion was big. I liked the dressing and all the cheese on top. My friend also wanted to get the bread with butter - also great but next time I'll pass..too much bread including the pizza. Then we ordered the cheesy mushroom pizza Funghi and spicy fermented chili pizza Calabrese. Mushrooms are fragrant and reminded me of when my family used to forage them. Very delicious! Calabrese pizza has the perfect amount of heat. It's made with fermented chili paste and three types of cheeses. Loved it. And dessert.. very unexpectedly delicious. I generally would never get dessert from a pizza joint but I'm so glad I did. It was an olive oil cake with some kind of caramel and homemade whipped cream. The BEST, the VERY BEST I've ever had. I generally go an olive oil cake whenever it's on the menu and what I've had before doesn't even come close. I can't wait to come back and try more food here. Bummer it's all the way in Jersey. Over hyped pizza. Pepperoni pizza (12") was not anything special. The mushroom pizza was tasty and I would recommend to anyone.

Few things in life truly live up to the expectations and hype surrounding them...this absolutely did. The service was outstanding, and the food was everything I had read and heard about. Of course, the pizza was the main reason for going, and it was every bit as good as advertised. But honestly, the real surprise for me was the meatballs with ricotta -- completely off the charts. I very rarely order meatballs out because I usually prefer homemade, but these were on another level. Absolutely worth the trip. read more

One of Jersey's best pizza. The pizza is very consistent. The corn pie is back which is enough reason to visit. It's made with NJ's fresh sweet corn, onions, and cheese. It's the perfect bite and ask for some chili powder which lacks in spiciness honestly but a good topping regardless. I typically had pepperoni to add the perfect saltiness to my slices. The tiramisu was delicious and everything you expect in a traditional dessert. I could do without the watermelon drink. I tried my sister's non alcoholic pomegranate drink and this was bomb. I would order that drink a dozen times over if I could.! Before opening hours, there's already a line. If you don't have a reservation I would suggest coming before 3 or 3:45 for a seat. The hostess was kind enough to seat us without a resy. Lots of walking around and coming up to the table every 5 minutes. Long gap between visits until now. Don't live in the area but remembered dining at Razza in 2017 amid the buzz of the NYT Best Pizza in New York article. Finally returned and was glad I did. I have not been in the restaurant since the expansion so my comparison is between pre expansion and post. I was impressed by their ability to adjust for vegan diets. The space is nice though some signage of where to enter for in restaurant dining and pick up could be improved. The service is what was off and will probably make it so we don't eat there again. 90 minute reservations are not unusual but after a delay of getting our pizzas... we were asked 6 times whether we were wanted to box our pizza. We still had pizza on our plates and drinks that were half-full. I understand it's a busy place that is trying to get the timing right but it left a bad taste in our mouth. Unique fresh pizza combinations, great appitizers, terrific service, and a vibrant and enjoyable upscale atmosphere. The Di Natale pie is a standout. Crust was perfect and the combination of ingrediants was a marvelous blend of flavors. It's not where you would go for a quick $3 slice or a monster pie that serves 6, but if you enjoy a quality pie, a knowledgeable service staff and something special, Razza rules. read more

This place really is no joke. From the moment we walked into the establishment, to when we left it has been an amazing experience. NYT rated this place best pizza in NY. We were determined to try. My bf and I walked in around 6pm on a Saturday and they were able to put my number down and text me when a table was ready which was less than 30 minutes. At the front, the host was so incredibly kind and hospitable. We were lead into the establishment which has a rustic sort of vibe to it. Dark lighting, beautiful smell of the za, and not too crowded given this place is busy! FOOD ORDERED Bread and Butter: this was delicious for sure but spending $9 for something you usually get free was def a new thing for me. Bread was soft and perfectly salty and the butter tasted so fresh, buttttt was it worth $9 when I can spend on more unique appetizer? Ceci: Now this is an appetizer! We actually added this to the bread and butter and it was delicious all together. My bf said he couldn't stop eating it. Burrata: WOW! Something about the crunchy warmth of the pizza topped with a cool Burrata made it just an amazing experience. So fresh. Guancia: WOW (again)! This one was my favorite. Don't give someone a reason not to buy something. Enter: the kale caesar salad. Romaine is easy to enjoy, while kale tends to divide opinions. Unless you're an incredible chef who can work magic with kale, stick to romaine for a Caesar--that's good merchandising. A Caesar is essentially greens and dressing, yet on NYC menus, they're often priced the same as the other salads that have a bit more oomph. From a value perspective, I believe a Caesar should come with anchovies (you can always ask for them without)--this one was without. As for the croutons, I appreciate that they were homemade with leftover bread, but they weren't seasoned or olive-oiled, just baked. That's not a crouton; that's baked bread. And now for the pizza. Drumroll, please. The best pizza in NY is not in Jersey City. Granted, I only tried the burrata, but it wasn't better than L'Industrie's burrata slice. The crust was too crunchy for my liking--I prefer a little pillowiness, a crust you want to finish. Maybe some of the other pies "wow,"but the "best pizza," as a whole category, is not in Jersey City. One last thing re: the caesar: in my opinion, bad architecture is when a house looks like it was just placed on top of the land, rather than being integrated into it. This place is very hyped so it nearly impossible to get resy unless you do it in advance or someone cancel. I have been lucky doing walk in so far. However the last time we did have to sit at the bar and wait full hour. I have been here a few times and recently tried the corn here which is good but when I compare to esquite I like that a bit better. But it was still yummy! Shockingly, I was hesitant when we ordered the squash pie but it was delicious! I am also big on bread and butter so I did enjoy that as a starter here! The calabrese which is a standard on the menu is one of my favs! I would say skip the classic margherita and try something else on the menu. The ambiance here is rustic and cozy with dim lighting. While the appetizers and desserts were delicious, the pies fell way below my expectations for pizza. Missed the mark for Neapolitan, nyc, or even basic takeout pizza. I'm always looking for an artisan pizza spot but most do not live to the hype. I arrived here five minutes after it opened and there was a line to get in. When I got in the only available seats were bar seating. With out hesitation that is what I went with. Upon seating we were offered water and not long after we placed our orders. They do have beer and other alcoholic drinks there. While waiting I noticed that the place is dark but that gives the vibe for the place. One thing to note. At the bar seating area there is a lack of rails for you to put your feet on and the chairs also do not have a foot rest. This makes it really uncomfortable for anyone shorter than 6ft tall. I really hope they fix that. My SO had to sit on the edge to put her on the floor and another patron eventually stood while waiting for her food because she was in pain trying to tippy toe. I would give this amazing pizza spot 5 stars if they didn't keep your credit card hijacked to hold one's reservation! Fortunately we got seats at the bar on a Saturday evening and had some really awesome pies. We tried the margarita and pepperoni pies and the meatballs - all were perfect!! We love the service and wait staff, very friendly! Coming from New York it's hard to find decent brick oven pizza but this spot serves up a pie with a smokey crust and savory flavor that hits home! There could be a little more cheese on the pies but the sauce is just sweet enough that compliments the whole pizza. Someone please tell the owner to stop forcing patrons to give their credit card for reservations. Went to Razza for an early dinner on the day before 4th of July. We had a 5:15 pm reservation and the restaurant wasn't totally full. Based on the facts that it was early and a holiday weekend, you would think we wouldn't have had to wait nearly an hour for our food to come out... but we did. We started with the meatballs which aren't huge but you get six per order. The meatballs came out in less than 5 minutes from when we ordered. Given how quickly they came out, we had high expectations our pizzas wouldn't take longer than 30 minutes. The meatballs were tasty. For pizzas, we wanted to order the zucchine pie - but however, at 5:15 pm - they had already run out... ? Instead, we got the Santo, the project hazelnut, and burrata. When the pizza did finally come out, it was tasty. I liked the Santo the most. The staff was super apologetic and threw in an extra free dessert. The panna cotta was too sweet for my liking and the olive oil cake was just OK. The Italian Lemonade cocktails were awesome though. I wanted so badly to love this place when we finally dined in person but unfortunately it didn't blow me away. Don't get me wrong, it's still delicious pizza. But I still stand by my previous review that I'm not sure it's THE BEST pizza ever. Knocking one star down for the price - 4 pizzas and meatballs cost $147 including tax and tip which is pretty steep in my opinion. The meatballs are honestly the real star here. My favorite pizza was the Santo then the burrata which tasted very fresh and like it had high quality ingredients. The Funghi was good but could have used more salt and I was underwhelmed by the Calabrese. The service was fantastic though. They have a nice waiting area in the front with counter space and hooks. My fiancé liked it though so that's why I'm giving it a 3. I was thinking a 4 but yelp said "Amazing! Tell us more." and it wasn't amazing. The meatballs were just okay, the pizza was just okay and the panna cotta had too much caramel. That being said it was easily the best thing we had here. When I travel there are certain local type places I want to try just to see the differences from home. These usually include pizza, burgers and fried chicken. This spot is right smack in the middle between two of my locations in Jersey so stopping here was a no brainer. I can't believe this spot isn't talked about even more than the local/easy coast reputation. Walking up to it, the building itself is striking. I can't quite explain it but it's stands out in its architecture. Walking in it's just gorgeous. Distressed walls with greens and flaura decorate throughout. But let's get to the fun stuff. I ordered the margarita and the meatballs. I probably have never been happier. The dough is just a little cheesy and a little carbon and a lot perfect on the pizza. I haven't eaten a whole pizza by myself since back in the day when I was bulking up. MTV still played music videos back then if that gives you any idea. But this pie was so flavorful that I couldn't stop. Then of course there was the meatballs. Probably the size of a baby's head and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was a little easy coast for me, but I'm getting used to it with each visit. I absolutely loved it here and can't wait to come back worth the hour drive either way. read more

Bread service was a bit overrated, it's bread and butter folks, don't get crazy. There was no draft beer when I went, don't know why, but they didn't have any which loses a star automatically. The service was excellent, no complaints there at all. I likes my pizza but for the price, I have to say one and done. We stopped by this Jersey City spot I'd been wanting to try and got a seat at the bar right at opening. Our waiter was a really nice guy! The vibe inside is stylish but fast-paced, not for long dinners. We ordered kale salad, meatballs, and a guanciale pizza--the salad was fresh and simple, so yummy! the meatballs was good, and the pizza absolutely amazing: light, thin, and full of flavor. Wow. I understand why folks rave about this place. I was visiting from out of town and my friends, who are locals, took me there. It did not disappoint. The high ceilings made for an airy feel and you didn't have to strain to speak, even on a crowded night. The pizza was truly delicious, with a light crust that holds up well. Their bread is spectacular. It is wonderfully crust on the outside and so moist and chewy on the inside with a just a hint of sourdough tart. My only slight is that the apps are definitely on the small side, but I guess the leaves more room for pizza. read more

I gotta try the classic cheese pie and the Calabrese next time!! -- salted caramel panna cotta- soooo good. the top caramel layer is perfect for those who love extra sweet things and the rest is just right. not too sweet either but just perfect when combined. A major highlight has to be our server. He was so friendly- always had a smile on, so knowledgeable- gave us great descriptions even without us having to dig for them, so attentive- he came by numerous times to see how we were doing. TIP: Don't sit in the booth next to the window! There are little ants that hang around the plants and come onto the table/booth too. Not crazy fire ants but still. One of the servers noticed them while we were dining but didnt make any initiative to help us. I know this because I went up to her to inform her of the ants but she said already knew. We made our reservation 30 days in advance because this place is very hard to get into. When we arrived, we were impressed that our reservation was immediately honored with none of the "you're lucky to be here" attitude other places with this type of buzz often have. After being seated, our waiter Chris came over with our menus and water for the table. We asked questions, and he gave very knowledgeable answers and recommendations. For our party of four, we split two appetizers, including an order of six meatballs which were outstanding, and came with a generous dollop of whipped ricotta on the top. The 12" artisans pizzas include classics, such as margarita and pepperoni, along with a rotating assortment based on seasonality and available ingredients. On our waiter's recommendation we ordered the Calabrese which is a white pizza with fresh mozzarella, ricotta, onions, and fermented chili paste which was AMAZING -- so tasty, with just the right touch of heat, and the crust was crispy and delicious. For our second pizza, we went old school with a classic pepperoni, featuring a generous amount of sliced pepperoni which turned into "little cups of love" in the cooking process, holding in the tasty oil within their curved wells. Great beer, wine, and cocktail selection, including a cappelletti spritz which was as good as being in Italy. To top it off, we ordered a shared dessert and even that exceeded expectations. The owner Dan, came out and we spoke with him and he shared that he has visited Italy over 30 times, including one specific time he classified as "the best day of his life." This spot was absolutely worth the trek to NJ from Manhattan for amazingly fresh and truly unique pies. Came here on a Tuesday night for a quick dinner with a visiting friend who was staying by the airport. The place was slammed with a pie or multiple pies on every table so of course we wanted to try everything. We started with the bread (house baguette & sourdough) with a trio of tasting butters. You know a place is good when just the bread and butter is unlike anywhere else. We each got our own pies so we could try more flavors. We got the santo, corn pie, and funghi. All were absolutely delicious in their own way but my absolute favorite was the corn pie. The sweet and savory combination elevated by the spice of chili oil was an explosion with every bite.
