But more importantly the pizza...it's if there was marriage between classic New York thin crust pizza with soft fluffy Neopolitan pizza, and birthed its own unique hybrid pizza...nothing else quite like it! Finally gave it a shot coming from the grove street path. I had been expecting a hole in the wall, but it's a much more trendy looking place than I had imagined. And really big. Actually when I saw it I dropped my expectations for the food. Fortunately pizza was really good. Crust was perfect. Generous amount of toppings. Note most items on the menu don't have protein and each meat is $4 to add. So after all this a pizza is going to be in the high $20s which is a little high given you'd likely need one pizza pp. Only complaint is that the Bread and butter app that the waiter was recommending is a complete rip off. It is decent for sure but not worth $9. I'd be happy with some complimentary ordinary bread instead. I learned of this place on Somebody Feed Phil. They do season pizzas so the menu changes based on the season. There are many different combos. We came here with a different couple-friend. The guy is an old friend from A's high school and brought along his fiancé. We got there when it opened and since there was a line to get in, we sent one person in first to get a table. When the guy was able to get a table, he called his fiancé so we were able to walk in. While we were walking in, some girl was like "uh there's a line." The fiancé shut her down saying "we sent someone inside." The look on the girl's face was pure gold: it was that incredulous look that people get when they're put in their place; it was also a little bit of, "Oh damn, I should've done that." We sat at the bar and the bartender was our waitress. She was super friendly and gave her favorite recommendations. We each got a different pizza so we could share and try different ones. I can't remember which ones we got but I'm pretty sure we all ate at least 4 slices of pizza, maybe 5. But all were amazing and the crust on all were so crispy and crunch. I usually don't eat the crust but there's something about wood-fired crust that makes it irresistible. Basically, it's a popular restaurant so get there before it opens to ensure that you get a table. If you have a group, send 1 person in first to make sure you can get a table for the number of people in your party. Don't let people tell you that there's a line. We can see there's a line, we don't need to be told. Soooooooo good! Razza has been on my list of spots to try for so long, but as the poor planner that I am, I never think to make a rez with enough time, anddddd they never have anything free. Luckily I turned a year older which means someone else made the (surprise) rez and I celebrated 31 with great pizza, wine and panacotta. Upscale pizza is the only way to put it. You could come in jeans and sneakers and a sweatshirt or a little on the dressed up side and fit in either way. The space is so cozy and nice and now I know to try to get a couple seats at the bar the next time I want to come in without a rez, I am sure I'll get luckily with a little wait time. Our waiters were so friendly, let us take our time, made suggestions, all around great. For appetizers, we started with the ceci (chickpeas in olive oil and parm) and the kale caesar. Ceci was tiny and tasty! And as a chickpea fan it was a nice little app. The dressing on the kale caesar was pretty perfect as well. I ordered a little side of bread to scrape of every bit of olive oil and caesar dressing that I could. On to the pies. I am a sucker for a red pie and a white pie on the table so we got the funghi and the burrata pies. Funghi was incredible, and if you are a mushroom lover like me, you need it. The burrata pie was also a winner. There were so many tasty pies on the menu and I cannot wait to get two new ones on the next visit. Anddd lastly dessert! They had no reservations left online, but they told us we could wait for thirty minutes for a table or two seats at the bar, and we decided to wait. They quickly sat us at the bar in about 20 minutes. Would have preferred a table but could not complain! Service was great and the food was amazing and so fresh. We ordered the Calabrese and Margherita pizza, the calabrese was so delicious! The margherita was also amazing, such a classic. Came here on a Sunday night and asked to be put on the wait list for bar seating since the restaurant was booked. Waited a little less than an hour to be seated. The dining space is not very big. The last time I ate here was before they moved into the next door space. They still own the original space but it looks mostly unused except for the original kitchen area with the pizza ovens. We ordered the bread and butter and meatballs with ricotta to start. The bread had a crisp exterior and pillowy soft, airy interior. I'd describe it as a rustic sourdough. The butter was like a rich European butter topped with some flaky salt. The combo was very good but thought it could use a touch more salt. The meatballs were almost as good as I remember them to be the first time we were here. When we ordered them years ago I remember them having a more robust beefy flavor. This time they didn't taste as beefy and there were large chunks of bread filler making up the meatball. The texture of the meatballs were very tender and the sauce was some of the best home made tasting tomato sauce I've ever had. It has a natural sweetness and didn't have too much acidity. The ricotta was also high quality and balanced all the flavors well. For pizzas we ordered the La Rossa and the Santo. The La Rossa is like the best tomato pie you'll ever have. It's so simple and perfect for those who's favorite part of a pizza is the tomato sauce. I don't know where they get their tomatoes but like I said previously their sauce is top notch. It's topped with garlic and basil and olive oil. The Santo comes with tomato sauce, mozzarella, pork sausage, shaved onions and chili oil. This pizza tasted pretty much how you'd expect except with elevated ingredients and a crust that's super light, crisp and chewy at the same time. I would recommend eating the pizzas right away because that's when the texture and taste are incomparable. Overall I gave Razza four stars because I feel like the meatball and bread quality may have dipped a little. Also the prices of the pizzas have gone up quite a bit over the years. Granted you are paying for one of the best pizzas in the country but $20+ for what I'll call individual size pies is the most I've spent on pizza. Having said that I'll be back for more. read more

Very high quality artisanal pizza that seems to try to resemble authentic Italian pizza. It's extremely thin and has a crispy puffy outer crust. The burrata pizza is a hidden menu item we discovered by seeing it at someone's table. The burrata is very fine and gooey and plentiful, and it compliments the otherwise standard pizza well. The calabrese had mozzarella, ricotta, caramelized onion, and we added pepperoni. The pepperoni was flavorful but the rest was bland. They gave us chili flakes and chili oil on the side. I liked the taste of both, but they both made me cough, the chili flakes from the particles and the chili oil from the spice that hit my throat The taste of the pizza was great overall and I appreciate the quality. It's official, Razza has ruined all other pizza for me. The bar has been raised, this is the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life. This pizza isn't the thick and heavy pizza most Americans love. This is wood fired, this is light and airy, lightly topped, high quality ingredients, simple and flavorful. The crust was unmatched. I have never had a crust that airy and crisp before. It was even crispy through the center which is uncommon for this style pie. The first bite was heaven and each pizza got better and better. The order we received pizzas went from simple to complex. Start with simple - La Rossa. This pie let's the crust shine and the flavors sing. You can taste the dough, you can taste the fresh tomatoes and basil and olive oil. It's so light it's like eating air. The sweet flavors of the sauce and the char on the crust makes for a balance of flavors that sends you to pizza euphoria. Add cheese - Burrata Pizza. Our next pie was like the first, but fresh Burrata was placed on the pizza after firing. The contrast of the cool burrata over the hot crispy crust was a surprising bite, delicious and again so well balanced. White pizza - Funghi. I am the friend of the group who always orders the white pizza. This was the winner of the trip. A total umami bomb without being over loaded with topping. They use 5 different types of mushrooms, cheesy and creamy. We didn't have a reservation but we arrived as soon as they opened and sat at the bar. The bartenders were so nice and accommodating. Our food came quick and we had a really nice cocktail as well. The bar is a nice place to sit, the place filled up immediately after opening. We couldn't avoid the amazing looking bread on the walls by the bar. I opted to bring one home and let me tell you, that is some of the best bread I have ever had. After hearing of Razza through social media/ a friend, I HAD to try it. I am not entirely sure if they take walk ins but I made my reservation about 3-4 weeks ahead of time to get the time slot that best suited me. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly hostess who quickly checked us in & immediately notified us that the party before us was wrapping up their meal & suggested we wait in the standing bar area & someone would come get us when our table was ready. The bar area was a nice slightly spacious area to wait. Unfortunately ( I have my suspicions why) but I was not a fan of the bar tenders. The individual who guided us to the standing area informed us that the bar tender or someone would be with us shortly to take out order if we wanted to indulge in some alcohol& we received no such service, but I did notice he went to everyone around us to make sure they were being served or needed any additional drinks. I didn't really want to let it affect my experience too much as I was there purely for the food but it did effect my rating ( would absolutely have given the place 5 stars had it not been for that). Now the main attraction was absolutely perfect. We ordered the burrata pie, meatballs with ricotta & the bread with butter. We first ordered the meatballs as an appetizer, which we felt came out about 5 minutes after we ordered it. It was absolutely fresh, presented perfect & bursting with flavor. Amongst finishing it, in what felt like 2 seconds we decided to order the bread with butter. Of course the bread came almost within minutes of us ordering it. The bread was wonderful, a nice crispy exterior with a warm fluffy interior that was delicious. Thinking that the pizza would take maybe longer than the appetizers we began to try the bread & about 2 minutes passed and out waiter came with our pie. It was everything you could ask for and would expect from this restaurant that seems to get high praise from everyone who dines there. The crust was perfectly crispy, the bottom of the pie had great consistency, was not soggy & was light. The sauce and burrata tasted equally fresh & delicious. Our waiter was wonderful, he was really attentive, provided great service & came around at that felt like the right moments to see how everything was and if we needed/wanted anything else. The restaurant had a great feel to it, great energy, had a somewhat monochrome design to it. Wonderful ambiance, it's a little loud just because the place was absolutely packed ( from what I hear it's always packed especially Fri-Sat. The NYT claimed this was the best pizza in NJ. While it was pretty good, that's a bit of a stretch to claim it's the best. We ordered the Margherita and the Guancia pizza. The Guancia was pretty good. Nice flavors, crispy guanciale and overall good. On the other hand, the Margherita was just bland. I don't know if they have a different sauce but it had nothing going on. One weird thing was they ended up serving us the appetizer and pizzas at the same time. The server mention it was a mistake but it felt really rushed to get everything at once and no apology beyond a quick "sorry". Razza on a Saturday, no reservation, means 45 minute wait for bar seating. Still better than the 1.5 hour wait initially proposed. We went over to Luna to kill time and escape from the rain. When we arrived back, the hostess was incredibly respectful and kind. She remembered us and smiled while greeting us and welcoming us to our table. Passing by her again as we were leaving, she made a memorable positive impression. Our waiter / bartender was funny and very knowledgeable. The food here is made with high quality ingredients and run by a staff who's proud of their products. While walking to or from our seats, all of the wait staff you pass acknowledges and greets you, making this environment feel welcoming and worth the value. We sat at the bar which is tucked around the back side of the restaurant, it's loud in every part of the restaurant. I didn't notice any ambient music, but lots of people just enjoying friendly conversations. The couple who sat next to us were getting married the next day. They mentioned to our waiter that this was their favorite NJ spot and while they were only in town for the wedding from California they had to come here. Prior to their arrival, a young professional was dining alone. The staff made sure to keep checking if he needed anything and lent time to discuss and hear his feedback about the dishes. We may only get paper napkins, but the service here is really impeccable. It's these small things the matter. They have an impressive cocktail list, and a decent enough bar to make any common mixed drinks. I went with an Aperol Spritz as my aperitif while my friend ordered an elderflower drink off the menu. She did mention one round was more effervescent than the next and the color of the first was slightly more pink in hue. After our drinks arrived, we then ordered the butter sampler for $18. This came with a nice sourdough and hard Italian bread. A chef came to our table to introduce the dish and discuss the flavors of each. The butters ranged from creamy and smooth to tangy and nutty. I do think the second butter tasted exactly like a triple crème Brie. My friend found it to be a little too funky for her liking. I think placing the blue butter in the middle of the plate would allow the diner to prepare their tastebuds for the intensity of the Brie butter. I absolutely loved all three. The blue butter tasted a bit like a wildflower honey to me and it blended perfectly on the hard Italian bread. If I could just order the blue butter or the Brie butter on their own, I would. The pizzas are intended to be personal pies. The slices are paper thin with black ashy bubbles and the brick oven bottom, which are a signature of NY style pizza. The dough tastes like it has had time to rest and ferment. I was able to comfortably eat three slices, but the other half of the pie had to come home with me. I ordered the Project Hazelnut ($24). I found it interesting to highlight on the menu that the hazelnuts were sourced from Rutgers University. I think a nod to JC would be nice by adding some locally sourced honey as well. While I love the texture of baked hazelnuts, slightly chewy, I was most impressed with the red sauce served on the Guancia pie ($25). The wet element of this mild sauce was missing on the Project Hazelnut. However, both pies outweighed what you get from a standard delivery pie. The quality ingredients and care in preparing the pie shine and I look forward to trying the other pizza's offered on my next visit! read more

We have dined in before and absolutely love this restaurant but decided to try them out for take-out. Took a little under 1.5 hours (as was stated in the Uber eats app) so obviously the pizza was cold. We warmed it up and it was fantastic- same quality! We had the Santo pizza which included really delicious sausage on top and the signature thin crust. I also decided to try out a loaf of their bread. I do wish it was a tiny bit less crisp on the outside but extremely fresh! It comes without any packaging so needs to be placed in an airtight container or package to maintain freshness. During the last 10+ years Razza has become a force in the world of Pizza. It has become one of the very best pizza restaurants not only in the NJ-NYC area but also in the US. It's with good reason and our visit to NJ and Razza proved it. Arrived at our reservation, immediately seated and noticed a lot of smiling and happy faces. Started with a fresh heirloom tomato salad with burrata that was so fresh and delicious. Followed up with the meatballs, fire roasted pork and beef meatballs with ricotta. Yum! Ordered two pizza's for us. The Santo is tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, pork sausage, shaved onions and chili oil. Delicious and most important the crust is crispy with the perfect amount of chew. The other pizza was equally as good. Eggplant pizza was roasted eggplant, mixed with a tomato passata and spread with fresh mozzarella and finished ricotta salata and fresh basil. Delicious! Razza has a very nice wine and beer list, we had a bottle of red wine with both pizzas. Service here is excellent all the servers working as a team with friendly useful explanations of the broad menu. Razza never disappoints and is truly a Jersey City gem! After years of living in Jersey and not having made it to Razza, I finally got around to giving it a try as a Brooklynite. I had extraordinarily high expectations after reading that somewhat controversial article by the NYT titled "Is New York's Best Pizza in New Jersey?". I came with enough friends to ensure we could try many types of pies, from simple to complex, so that I could give this place a fair evaluation. Folks, that NYT article may have been correct. This pizza is absolutely INCREDIBLE and does pretty much everything right. The crust is super crispy with just the right amount of char and a flavorful airy dough. The ingredients taste quality compared to what you would get at slice joints. The topping combos are well balanced - none of them feel like they have any one flavor that overpowers another. I have to say, Neapolitan style does not tend to be my favorite - maybe because it usually turns out more doughy and soft, but I've always preferred places like Scarr's or NY Pizza Suprema or Joe's to places like Roberta's or Fornino's. As such I was even more impressed by how outstanding Razza is. It is easily top 5 pizza places for me now and is certainly in contention for the top spot. Beyond the fantastic pizza, Razza also has a great interior setup. It has big tables with cozy seats. The lighting is on the dim side, but it is nice because you can see the pizza oven light up the room as it keeps firing throughout the night. It was a cold day and we really felt like we were in a warm, cozy cabin. Service was great too. The staff were all super friendly, everything was served fast, and they even took good pictures for us which is always appreciated. Overall, a fantastic experience and one all pizza lovers should have. Do not ignore it just because you live in NY either! It isn't too hard to get to, and is totally worth the trip. read more

Personally my favorite pizza joint in Jersey. I never have a chance to take shots of our food because we immediately scarf it down. Glad that they expanded their restaurant by the time we moved back from Seattle. I'm not a huge fan of pizza (a cardinal sin as I am a native New Yorker) but I think that the flavors at Razza are quite good. The service is always great and very quick and surprisingly, the cocktails are pretty good. We got the Bread and Butter, which features sourdough bread that they make in house every day. It's fresh but I find that it gets very hard, very quickly. I'm more of a soft bread type of gal so it was only ok for me. As for the pizza, we got the Burrata, which came highly recommended. It's simple and flavorful. My favorite had to be the Meatballs with Ricotta. I've had it before and I have to say, the second time was even better. Hype is real. Best pizzas I've ever had. We made a reservation 1 week in advance, don't miss the window! We ordered for a party of 5: - Butter flight - oh man, the aged ones with some blue cheese blend were out of this world. Had never tasted butter like this, the bread was fantastic too. 5/5 - Meatballs with ricotta - by far the best meatballs I've ever had, so soft without the typical fillers, marinara was amazing and didn't overwhelm the meat flavors, the ricotta went so well with everything. 5/5 - Burrata pizza - some of my family members don't like cheese (yes I know), but loved the burrata here. Super soft and fresh tasting. 5/5 - Funghi pizza - perfect white pie with a generous amount of mushrooms. No additional sauce means the crust stays firm. No flop! 5/5 - Santo pizza - good but not as perfect as the other two, sausages were great but a bit oily from the sausages naturally, mozzarella was ok 4/5 We finished everything and were stuffed. Love it!!! Everything, starting from the pizzas, ambiance and ending with service!! Had the ricotta pizza and jersey Margherita and both were tremendous! Thin but super crispy crust, very flavorful with plenty of cheese! For dessert we had the tiramisu which was good too! It does deserve the hype! read more
