I have lived in Dothan now for 4 yrs and this restaurant by far has the best breakfast. Everything was hot and fresh. Staff was friendly and quick with preparing my order. The restaurant was completely full with customers and everyone had nothing but good things to say about the atmosphere, food and service. I'm totally sold on this restaurant.

I typically search Yelp for a local place for breakfast when traveling and today, Ray's place looked like the best bet. I arrived to and found it clean, welcoming and filled with locals. Coffee was immediately offered (and needed!). Good prices and great food. Cooked exactly as I ordered! I count this as a win!!!

Ray's has been around in Dothan forever! How have I missed this place? I always thought it was just a breakfast place but it is more of a meat and three. There are some fascinating items of the decor to Ray's. First of all, there is a table in the middle of the small dining room called the "Table of Knowledge" and even has a sign for it. Yeah that's great and all but what excites me more is Paul Bear Bryant ate here. In fact, the table he sat at, has not been changed in the restaurant. Also, beside his table is his photo and signature in a frame. There are also other pictures of Alabama and that other team football stuff everywhere. Besides the usual sandwich menu Ray's has everyday, they have 5 meats to choose from with several sides. I asked my waitress what was popular and she said the beef tips are on Tuesdays. Since I was there on a Tuesday, I went with her recommendation. I would say though, it was more disappointing than good. The beef tips were in a gravy on mashed potatoes and while not bad, it really wasn't packing with flavor. For my sides, I picked field peas (very good), slaw (more creamy than crunchy, a solid slaw), corn muffin (sweet and possibly the best thing on my plate) and banana pudding (which has to be near impossible to get wrong). My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. Ray's is a solid breakfast and meat and 3 spot for breakfast and lunch in Dothan. I do wish my meat was more flavorful but it wasn't bad. The table of knowledge and Paul Bear Bryant table adds to the mystique of Ray's. I will eat here again.

    This was "made fresh".

Our server was polite and greeted us shortly after we were seated. She brought waters over to the table and then gave us some time to look over the menu. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy, but it was busy enough to keep the two servers on in a study flow. While the location is nice. I did notice that there seems to be a lack of noise control as it was quite loud for my husband and I to hear each other over a two top table. I opted for the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli me while my husband chose the grilled ribeye with potatoes and brussels sprouts. My fried chicken was amazing! Had great seasoning. The mashed potatoes are really good and the broccolini was perfectly cooked for my liking. I would definitely order it again. My husband's ribeye was cooked perfectly to that medium , well temp. His potatoes were good but his brussels sprouts were a slight disappointment. They basically had no seasoning whatsoever and tasted like mush. It would've been better have they boil them and then put them into a cast iron for a little bit to get a little bit of crisp on them. Overall for a hotel restaurant, we found the location to be convenient and decent food.

We were seated right away, but almost every table in the place was packed. Our server greeted us pretty quickly and got our beverage order started. My husband stuck with coffee and I got one of the energizer beverages the morning sunrise that includes elderflower tonic, orange juice, and period strawberry. It was delicious. I chose to order the breakfast burrito with fruit as my side. The fruit was incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. No one checked in, not even for water. One waitress even looked directly at us, said "hey," then turned to help the table next to us without actually checking if we needed anything. Eventually, another staff member noticed we'd been sitting there a long time with no service and stepped in to help. She figured out there had been some sort of miscommunication--apparently we were sat, but no one was told we were sat. We ordered drinks, but only 3 out of 4 came out. I waited another 10 minutes for mine, and my aunt had to go check on it. My mom also ordered an extra shot of espresso for her drink, which somehow took longer to arrive than our food. When the food came out, my mom's plate was missing entirely. We were told it had been dropped and was being remade. Then my sister found a hair inside her burrito. I ordered the signature French toast and was given the basic French toast instead, which I pointed out immediately. To be fair, once everything finally got sorted, multiple staff members were trying to help, and the food itself, aside from the issues, was genuinely good. It's just incredibly unfortunate how much went wrong leading up to it. Between the long wait, missing items, wrong items, and a hair in the food, the whole experience just... sucked. I rarely leave reviews like this, but this visit was extremely disappointing. I hope it was just an off day, because the actual food has potential--everything else just needs serious improvement.
