Seven years later and we decided to give Rays another try and I'm so glad we did! We ordered a cheese Neapolitan, a Margherita, cheese sticks and garlic knots. The cheese sticks were as good as hoped, chewy, tasty and the sauce was good. However, the knots were not good whatsoever. Tiny, dry and not flavorful. When the pies were delivered, I brightened up. Everything tasted as good as it looked. The crust on the Neapolitan was delicious and crispy, the sauce and cheese were perfect. The Margherita was even better. Service was excellent. It is now the Go-to place for pizza for son and I look forward to it on future visits. read more

I've been eating at Rays Pizza since the 90's at multiple locations. I love rays pizza. But today I order 2 slices (1 veggie, 1 meat) the guy says $16 but hey free drink and hands me a cup. So I'm thinking for $16 these has to be made by god himself. Well the slices that arrived for me offended me to my core. They were burned to a crisp, the veggie was average at best. The meat pizza was burned to the point that I couldn't finish it. The crust was about as thick as a credit card and was burned terribly. Never going here again. read more

I am asking myself why I've never visited this location before. I've been to Rays in Glendale many times, but never remember this location is here. Located in a shared shopping center with Albertsons there is plenty of parking. The location is small, but offers a good amount of booths and tables. You order at the counter then they bring out your food. We ordered a large pepperoni and hot wings along with a few drinks. Service was great and our food came out pretty fast. Everything looked delicious. The wings were steaming and sauced well. The wings are fried which we love and gives them a crispy bite. Pizza is cheesy, greasy (not overly) and plenty of toppings. Perfect. Crust was good and didn't flop down when picked up. Would be perfect reheated in the oven for added crisp. We left full and happy. The location was clean, no frills pizza spot. They do have one tv I believe, but we were too busy eating to watch it. Great stop today. read more

Pizza was great! We just did the classic cheese and a gluten free cheese- both super tasty. We ordered wings but they didn't show up (we were using Slice App for delivery since we were out of delivery zone)... that was a HUGE bummer. The antipasto salad left quite a bit to be desired. Got A Medium cheese pizza for $17Wow! Ask for less cheese and more tomato sauce on the pizza. Most expensive pace I've ever run across! What we got for our $17 was enough cheese for three Pizzas and a half baked crust you could hardly chew through. I was really looking forward to the East Coast Pizza for coming from New Jersey almost 50 years ago.. we tried to eat it for lunch, tried to reheat it so we could chew the crust to no avail. wound up throwing it away. The first time I tried their pizza was from work catering not knowing it was from here. I had a slice of their meatzilla/meat lovers & the white pizza (has garlic & cheese melts) Both very delicious Once I did some asking and found out the name of the place I decided to give it a try and order take out for home. I don't recall if I ordered whole pizzas or by the slice but both occasions on my slice there was a fly baked on the crust Luck? who knows would I still be their customer? Heck yes! Rays pizza is my go to place for slices. Their lunch special of two slices and a medium drink is my usual order. Almost alway go with one slice of "monster" and one of pepperoni. The monster is basically an everything pizza and it's very flavorful. It's their signature offering. Crust is thin and crispy. Sauce is a little spicy and a little sweet. Rays is my go to place for pizza. They're large pizza is huge. It's very New York style. They have great sandwiches. I love this place!

Here is a chain of pizza Resturants that deserve a great deal of credit for bringing Sicilian style Pizza to the forefront. I found it delightful and a taste of the 'ma and pa' restaurants of my youth in Chicago. There is no great ambiance to the place but the quality is very good. Used to be one of the best pizza places in surprise, not anymore when we went in there last week, the salad, we got look like it was two weeks old, the pizza had no flavor whatsoever and was extremely greasy, and the place was disgustingly,dirty, I don't know how the health department doesn't shut it down. Today, 2/8/25 I ordered from Ray's Pizza the Sicilian Thick Crust Cheese Pizza at Reems & Grand Ave. and asked to have Mushrooms and Italian Sausage added, which I've done before. The last time there wasn't enough sauce; and I like to taste the sauce, so this time, I also asked for extra pizza sauce on the pizza. Well, I don't know who came up with this idea that the extra pizza sauce should be put on the top after it's been already baked. My brain tells me it belongs where the normal sauce is, on the bottom. The pizza is soggy, and watery from not being baked with the sauce on it, can't see where the cuts are because there is so much sauce, it's hard to cut and I will have to put it under the broiler to try to dry it out without drying it out too much. Then to top it off I called and asked to speak to the manager and she said 'how can I help you' so I asked if that was normal for them to put sauce on top and her response was 'well the guys in the back have been making pizzas here for 10 years and I wouldn't question them on how to make it". Okay then, thanks! If a customer asks a question, shouldn't you be honest. I really feel they didn't realize I asked for extra sauce until after it was baked and just decided to put it on top. I would have rather they tell me 'they forgot to add the extra sauce' and maybe offer me a container with the extra sauce. That would have been acceptable; what I got isn't... Lesson Learned... don't ask for extra sauce and not sure I'll go back. read more

Visited this pizzeria today on a recommendation from a fellow dog park patron... Boy, was she spot on!!! A few of the dog owners were talking about restaurants, food, etc. Well, pizza came up. Mentioned how growing up in Queens/ Brooklyn, NY makes you a pizza snob. Since I've left home I have NEVER found pizza fitting to be called a perfect "Slice"... until today at Ray's!!! The days of Dominoes, Pizza Hut, Papa John's we're sad for the most part. Unfortunately, it was about the only option in most cases. Then there was the recent trip to Binghamton, NY. I asked the locals about pizza, and got duped. One look at those slices sitting under the heat lamps, dry, and old looking... I knew better. So, I left. Now, I have a new spot that reminds me of being a kid. Eating pizza with grease running down my wrist, and forearm, as I hold it folded to take a bite!!! Ray's, you guys have a new fan. What a day, what horrible customer service I experience; I have been ordering from Rays for over a year.  I order the buffalo chicken pizza; it tastes like someone poured salt all over it, "disgusting." I called and asked to speak to the manager, not sure of her name, but I explained my problem and what I thought was wrong with the pizza. I explain that we have ordered this pizza many times, and today, the pizza was unedible. The manager actively listens, then put the phone down, not even telling me to hold 15 to 25 seconds later, the cook gets on the phone, telling me there's is nothing he can do about the awful tasting pizza. He then jumped to refund which, I did not even want that, but he explains when you order through the third-party app via google, it's out of his hands... Consumers, please be aware. I have ever experienced such poor customer service. Management resolution was for me to return the pizza, and he could make a new one a different one. Rays Pizza does not have a delivery service, so you have to use a third-party service from Google consumers be aware we all have the right to choose where we spend our money. read more

When my Yelpquest for a primo Italian sub sent me to a bistro that had changed its hours and wasn't open, I realized I was right next door to Ray's, and figured he might offer one. I was already a fan of his pizzas, Ray's being the only place I know in the west valley (at least) that offers any thick-crust pizza, which my wife strongly prefers. Ray's Italian Combo Sub was large, fresh, and arrived quickly. It was stuffed with a generous helping of meats and cheeses. If it had been an American sandwich, it would have been an easy five stars. What I missed in this Italian were the spicier meats (pepperoni, or capocollo, or prosciutto) and the strong balsamic vinegar (Ray will provide you with a light wine vinegar if you ask, but the sandwich doesn't come with). Maybe it's another combination Ray could think about offering for fans of Italian cuisine. read more

My first time Here today and I was pleasantly surprised!! I've been searching for some good pizza ever since I've moved here. The best so far has been Grimaldi's! I seen the reviews for Rays and had to go try for myself. The smell when you walk in is Italian 101!!! I loved that I saw an older guy in the back making pizzas. Sort of told me it was old school. My hopes are getting high!! I grab my pizza and on the way out, i see this older lady at the register upfront now - to The 9's, you know old school Italian. Nice hair - you can tell from afar. I said to myself. Ok. We are looking good here. So I walked out and don't open the box until I got home. I was impressed. Pizza looked pretty fire. New York style for sure. Pepperoni with half sausage! First bite. I was like yeah man. This is good. Extra bite. Was just as good. I am going back for slice 3 and 4. Ok I have officially found my spot. Just one thing. This is not your fancy-schmancy advertised big-branded marketing joint. Ray's just delivers the taste & texture of what a true New Yorker craves for - large (I mean large, no cheating on the size here), plenty cheesy (real cheese not cheap imitation), plenty fresh toppings whatever you like, airy & awesome dough. I order mine "crispy". Mind you, not to be interchanged with "thin" crust (you can certainly order that too). Just perfect NY style crust - hot & crispy; when you fold the slice, the corner bends with the weight of its melted mozzarella. Us New Yorkers like our cheese slice greasy LOL yes, they know what I mean. It's got to have that dripping with cheese oil goodness! My family loves it! That's just the plain cheese. If greasy isn't for you then you're definitely not a true New Yorker (Lol you won't understand). However, please do ask them for less sauce, less cheese, however suits your fancy. They'll do it, because people come from many different places with different tastes & expectations & you can't please everyone's palette. This is NOT California pizza. This is not Texas or Tennessee pizza, not Idaho or Indiana pizza. This is not Hawaii or Washington, Colorado or Kansas pizza. You get the picture. Everyone has their preferences of course, if you've moved from Michigan, Minnesota, Chicago, Alaska, or wherever. I order half and half. Half cheese & half black olives, peppers, onions, mushrooms. All fresh not canned & soggy. Trust me it's packed with toppings - no skimping on ingredients here. I prefer the veggies, spinach, white, caprese, all kinds; my daughters favor the meats. So here's a tip: because there's a ton of toppings - and so it gets heavy (yes thank you Ray's) make sure to ask to bake your crust "extra-crispy". Service is excellent, hard-working staff/owners. Ray's is the real deal. I order mine to-go all the time. Before moving Westside of the Valley, I always go to the North Scottsdale by Frank Lloyd Wright & Hwy. 101. For years now, I've been ordering take-out here in their Surprise/Grand Ave. location. I can always count on the consistency. That's hard to beat! Don't be fooled by other pizzerias that claim to serve New York style pizzas. To just call it that doesn't mean squat. Only Ray's is the best kind & the best place. Ordered 2 large cheese pizzas, 1 gluten free white pizza, 1 gluten free margarita pizza, and 1 sausage and jalapeños. They were all delicious except that we found the silica packet on the margarita pizza. Pretty disappointed because they even cook it with the packet in it. We had already ate two of them when we noticed it. Really bummed out about it. Definitely will think again about returning. Always check your food like the sign they have says. read more

We have been to the Ray's in Scottsdale many times and we were excited to see one in Surprise as we have recently moved. This place was a disappointment. Very dirty, it smelled bad, everything like tables and chairs were very sticky. Christmas cards still on the cooler. We were there in July! We were not happy with the restaurant nor the food. We saw a couple pizza places to try being from Vegas on a weekend vacation and heard this place was pretty good. The staff was friendly and the place was your normal pizzeria place. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a calzone. When we received the food, it looked pretty good. Taste was ok and greasy. What you expect from pizza and pepperoni. Definitely was ok and better out there. My calzone was disappointing. When I cut it open it was like taking a small pizza and fold it over. Sure that is really the concept but was a huge bubble top and not filled with ingredients enough for my taste. Lacked a little flavor and no sauce on the side to dip. I would not recommend this place and would try elsewhere but where, I'm not sure as we are from out of town. We purchased a pizza from here last night that was very soggy in the middle. We tried heating it up in the oven on the pizza stone to make it crispier and that did not work. We brought all but 2 slices back, we had thrown the others away because we tried eating them and they were just too soggy. They told us we could bring the pieces we ate back that we had thrown in the trash, how unsanitary are you serious? We asked the owners to try it and they would not. They refused to give us a full refund. Sadly we drive 30 min just to get this pizza as we normally like them and have been here multiple times with no issues, but this was a horrible experience. We will not be back due to this experience. Advice...if you get a pizza from here that is not quality bring even the partially eaten pieces back to for a full refund. read more
