Unfortunately this place just did not do it for me. Ribs lacked any real seasoning or smoke flavor. They were mushy and too fall off the bone. I has rays the roof with sliced brisket topped with hotlinks. It was ok but not amazing. I also tried the bologna sandwich which was better than the actual bbq. Cashier was very helpful and service was quick. The dry rub ribs were fall off the bone tender and were good, very well seasoned. Cannot say enough great things about my first visit! So enter a string of huzzahs and accolades yourself because I'm not writing a novel. I wanted some smokehouse and Ray's popped up on my map. A little out of the way from where I was at the time but I was going to drive just as far in another direction so why not. It was a great choice. When parking is hard to find you just know you've found a good spot to eat. My pick was the rib feast and included a full rack of some of the tastiest ribs I've had in the metro, a pint of mac & cheese, a pint of collards, and I added a pint of smokehouse beans extra because I wanted to try them. The BBQ sauce was just as good as the ribs so they get high marks for that. The service was fast and courteous. I was a bit shocked at how fast considering it was dinner time on a Friday but these folks made it pop! The restaurant is clean and bright inside and the next time I may come to stay instead of doing a grab and go. A plus for all of the food. A caveat, if you're looking for baked beans the smokehouse beans here are more of a chili style with great kick and flavor. Beautiful, but just a word in case you're thinking of the calmer baked variety. read more

In the late 1970's, one of Barry Switzer's stand-out defensive backs was Darrol Ray. He spent several years in the NFL with the Jets. Now he runs one of the best BBQ spots around. With locations on West Lindsay in Norman and another on South Santa Fe in Moore, they serve up consistently excellent dry rubbed ribs, lean and tender beef brisket, sausage, hot links, turkey, pulled pork and more. Sides include very tasty french fries, home made collard greens, smokehouse beans, okra, corn, cole slaw, garden salad, mac & cheese and baked potatoes. The sides are not an after thought at Ray's. We have tried most of them and all are at least good if not better. We rank the greens, fries, corn on the cob and okra as excellent. Prices are fair, servers are helpful and pleasant. The atmosphere is nice. Overall, Ray's is one of my two favorite BBQ restaurants along with Van's Pig Stand. read more

I went back to the front and was told that when i ordered it was put in as a brisket sandwich and was not offered any way to reconcile so I walked off. Can fat people eat here? Yes but the brisket was dry and I hate dry brisket 5: yes 3: maybe 1: no You will be full here but I don't like the brisket and that's what I want when I go BBQ. What better way to spend a Presidents' Day day off, than to try out a new bbq place. The wife and I have driven by here countless times, but never stopped until today and I am so glad that we did. The place looked amazing on the inside. I loved the retro decor and the soft 50's music was a welcome addition. The food was great, and I really enjoyed the Ray's The Roof Combo Sandwich and homemade mac&cheese. My wife tried the BBQ Bakers with Chopped Brisket. The food was amazing. Simply fantastic! My first time visiting the Moore location. I've been in Norman before and always get the Rays the Roof. This time in Moore we got a rib feast and added 1/2 pound of chopped brisket and hotlinks with smokehouse beans and fried okra as sides. They did not disappoint this time either. Ribs are very tender with good flavor. Hotlink is a good old school link. Just enough slice. The okra is always nice and crispy. The beans are like chili beans with bbq sauce but they were surprisingly good. Wasn't a fan of the brisket but my mom enjoyed it. Toast was good as well as nice mild bbq sauce. The cashier and other employees were friendly. The watermelon tea is very good too. Would absolutely recommend. As good as the original in Norman, which I consider to be the best BBQ in Norman. The Moore location is in a strip mall and looks small on the outside but has more seating inside than you may expect. I have eaten here and gotten stuff to go before, either way you are good. The restaurant is always clean and the walls are appropriately decorated with OU stuff, which is what you would expect from a place owned by a former player. The BBQ hits all the high notes you'd want, but my favorite meat at Ray's is the ribs. They are tender but not too tender, you don't want them to completely fall off the bone, you want some pull. Every time I have had they they are flavorful and never dry. Of the sides my favorites are the mac n cheese and okra. When you order the okra to go, Ray's punches a few holes in the top of the container to allow steam to escape so you don't end up with soggy okra. This is a nice touch that not enough places do. I would rather have fried stuff arrive a little less warm but crispy than hot and soggy. It's this kind of attention to detail that makes Ray's great. Finally, if you are a tea person, the Watermelon Swee Tea is one of the best iced teas I have had. If I am not careful I can easily drink 3 or 4, it's so good and refreshing. I love Rays BBQ! I always get the pulled pork sandwich and fries. Sometimes I switch it up and get the ribs and okra! Both are perfect. Meat is tender and the right amount.
