I've got to say , I've been to about 10 different Bbq places in Oklahoma since I moved here in…read moreNovember and this one is the best so far all around. I'm a Bbq Lover and have had it in so many states around the country. I grew up in the Carolinas , lived in Texas , lived in Las Vegas , traveled through Tennessee , Georgia , Alabama , Louisiana , and so on and so forth and have had bbq in all of them. I even lived in Germany during the 80's for 4 years when I was in the Army when the Berlin Wall was still standing , Cold War Veteran.
The employees here are friendly and knowledgeable. When I first came in I told them it was my first time and the lady gave me some tips and later we talked about the business and bbq in general. She is the catering manager and I also met the Asst General Manager. I got to learn the history of the owner when I mentioned it reminded me of Mission Bbq , I guess the owner was at one time partners with them and went out on his own. I have to say this is better than the Mission Bbq I went to in Las Vegas. I tried it 3 times with friends and each time it went downhill.
Texlahoma is a hybrid bbq of Texas , Oklahoma , and Louisiana. I got 3 Meats and a Side. Pork Rib was good and it has a dry rub with a slight line of a sweet bbq sauce on it. It tasted good and I would recommend them. Most of the places I've been to in Oklahoma make good or decent ribs. I tried with the 4 sauces on the table and it is better to just eat them as they come , no extra sauce needed. Brisket I got sliced and the moist. It had good flavor and was tender. Most brisket I've had in Oklahoma is lacking in seasoning and some were dry even though I asked for the moist. They will have some smoke flavor , but they are definitely not Texas Brisket like it is here. Texas 2 Step bbq sauce was my favorite on the brisket.
Pulled Pork has been a terrible experience for me in Oklahoma. It is always dry , no smoke , no flavor , just bland meat. The Carolinas is where you want to go to get Whole Hog Pulled Pork. I've never had bad pulled pork in North or South Carolina. Even in Las Vegas where I lived for 35 years the bbq places there make better pulled pork , more Texas than the Carolinas though. The pulled pork here is good , smokie , and a little moist , not dry. The Cajun Cowboy bbq sauce I would recommend using on it , it goes with it the best and is very tasty. I tried the Georgia Mustard with it which is refrigerated and they will give you a small container of it , was not my cup of tea and I sometimes will like to use a Georgia / Carolina Mustard on my pulled pork , but I prefer the Carolina Vinegar and Red Pepper Sauce. Sometimes I will do a tomato based bbq sauce on it too which is more of a Texas thing , but they do make it in some places in the Carolinas.
Baked Beans were good and seasoned. The lady told me they use lots of seasoning like garlic for the beans. I didn't have any brisket pieces or hot links pieces in my beans like a lot of places do , so not sure if they do this. Almost every bbq place I've been to in Oklahoma have good baked beans. Sweet Tea was good and not overly sweet , just right. The pickle slices that they have on the platter were pretty good too and you get 2 slices of white bread. You can get onions too , but I opted out of those.
They make Homemade Banana Pudding which I would've tried , but I was too full. They also make their own Coleslaw , Potato Salad , and more. They have Mac-n-Cheese , but the lady said it was one of the few things that wasn't homemade. The dining area was clean and decorated nicely. The music brought me back to the days with my Dad , playing old Country Music from the 70's and 80's. There were a few more modern songs too , but it was mostly the older stuff.
They have a total of 6 sauces. Cajun Cowboy , Texas 2 Step , OG , Oklahoma Smoke , Alabama White Sauce , and Georgia Mustard. The last 2 are refrigerated so you have to ask for. The Alabama White Sauce is for like Pulled Chicken , so I didn't try that one. Cajun Cowboy was my favorite for Pulled Pork and Texas 2 Step for the Brisket.
If you've never been here , I would definitely recommend you giving it a try. They have Daily Specials and Lunch Specials. Prices are reasonable , especially the specials. Catering is also available. I live in Mustang , but will make the drive again to come here.
