Picked up a friend in Yukon and headed to Ken's in Amber, OK. I had heard about Ken's for years and finally decided to give give it a go. We arrived at five. They open at 4:30 and there were just a few tables left. The venue is in an old vintage building so common across small town Oklahoma. It's definitely casual with a very relaxed atmosphere. There is no menu and the offerings are limited: prime rib, sirloin steak and ribs. There is a wonderful salad bar. The salad is cold, as are the plates. On the salad bar is fried Okra and brown beans. They also offer a complimentary rib for each diner. The rib was very good. I ordered the sirloin. It was cooked to order and was flavorful. Sirloin is not a cut I would order if given options. Wish they had filet, T-bone and ribeye on the menu. Jan ordered the prime rib. It was nice and she enjoyed it. What a find!! We were driving back to Oklahoma City from the watermelon festival and decided to stop here for dinner. We waited 20-30 minutes on a Saturday night. The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I knew I had found what I wanted all along. A place that was more worried about food, service and atmosphere than all of the modern chic facades. I was not disappointed. Inside I was greeted warmly, seated promptly even though they were packed, and before I blinked complimentary ribs for the table?! Instead of having a long confusing menu handed to me, I was given a list of 5-6 options by the server. I love it! First timer! Wife and I met her sister and bff at Ken's on a Thursday evening, around 6pm. They were pretty busy, but we were seated right away. (We did have to ask someone what we did because it isn't entirely clear where you wait, etc.) It's a little dark where we were seated, and pretty noisy, but not too terribly distracting. Our server was Marti. She was very polite and helpful with us newbies. She took our drink order and a basket of ribs appeared out of nowhere! The all-you-can-eat salad bar looked so good! They had brown beans and fried okra available, along with the normal salad fixings. We all ordered our dinners when our drinks were brought out. They have sirloin, grilled chicken, ribs, smoked sausage, brisket, and I'm about 99.99% sure she said prime rib as well. We ordered two sirloins, ribs, and grilled chicken. The sides are baked potatoes, fries, or curly fries. Everyone got baked potatoes except me...I got curly fries because I love fries! The ribs were terrific, and I'm not even a big lover of meat. The barbecue sauce is very meh, but they honestly didn't really need sauce. The ladies with the sirloins said they were fantastic and didn't need steak sauce. My grilled chicken was super flavorful and not dry AT ALL. Ken's does their limited menu right. Definitely worth the 45 minute trip for us! Good size and not too much fat but the mesquite overwhelmed it and there was no horse radish sauce with it. Both my girls ordered their steaks medium rare and they were both overcooked. Ribs were nice but again they were overpowered by the mesquite. The toast they bring with the honey was a nice treat. Our server disappeared and all drinks ran dry. Got sent to Oklahoma City for three months and was recommended Ken's. Showed up earlier cause of other reviews saying how packed it becomes and they weren't lying. In which you could easily get full from so I'd eat light. The steak came out and it looked good at first glance, but when I cut it down the middle to check if it was cooked how I ordered, it was definitely cooked medium well. Still tasted very good but it wasn't as juicy as I prefer. Sad to say that the most exciting part of the meal was the salad bar and potato. Took some stars off cause the none of the steaks we ordered were cooked medium rare. Place was too far and I don't feel it was worth the drive. Ok, this place doesn't disappoint, the food was so good. My husband went with the classic steak, and I tried the prime rib, oh my, melt in your mouth. This little place has restricted hours, just Thursday, Friday, & Saturday nights from 4:30-9:00, and although if you don't arrive at 4:30 you will wait in line. The food is worth the wait, their baked potatoes are monster size and cooked perfectly; my husband said the steak was well seasoned, tender& juicy. The salad bar is basic, but don't eat too much salad or you won't be able to eat your meal. I live in Houston now, after living in OKC for seven years, but Ken's Steaks & Ribs is my favorite restaurant. Period. It still comes up in conversation, and my writing below is what I told a friend of mine who was wanted a "hole in the wall" stop between Dallas and OKC. Ken's Steaks & Ribs in Amber. Do it! There are, I think, five menu items (rack of ribs, Cornish game hen, big steak, little steak, special of the day), with the only option being what kind of potato do you want, and do you want to add a sausage link. Instead of rolls pre-meal, you get a basket of beef ribs, one for each person at the table. Then the salad bar/buffet is GLORIOUS. It has the most nutrient deficient, pale, iceburg lettuce you have ever seen. There is a gigantic block of cheese that you just have to carve chunks off of with a community knife. And soup? You bet, and it's only ham & bean. Non-salad vegetable? Yep, and it's the most unhealthy we can make a vegetable, fried okra, and you can have as much as you want. They drive from EVERYWHERE to enjoy the smoked ribs, chicken, steaks, and prime rib. Add to that the salad bar with its fried okra, baked beans, cheese chunk, etc., and you have an absolutely memorable meal (choice of potato included). I love everything from the simplicity of the place and service to the quality of the food. They don't kid around here with their steaks and ribs! I love that you can have a decent meal for super cheap! For what you get here it would cost almost $100 at a "fancy-upscale" steaks restaurant in the city. Heck, steaks and ribs are even overpriced at Texas Roadhouse and that's not fancy one bit. So, before you go be sure to check the hours. There's no reservations. You stand in line and wait until it's your turn to be seated. Once you're seated you get your drinks, and complimentary ribs! Yum!!!! The menu? There isn't one. It's simple... do you want steaks or ribs, and how do you want your steaks cooked. Then you get to choose from a few side items they have. Afterwards, you help yourself to the salad bar as many times as you want! I love the beans and the fried okra from there. The salad is simple. Nothing special and everything you can get and make yourself. Once you're done, you make your way to the front and pay. They do accept credit cards. Grab a couple of Andes mints: 3/25 cents just because they're sitting there calling your name.
