Picked up a friend in Yukon and headed to Ken's in Amber, OK. I had heard about Ken's for years and finally decided to give give it a go. We arrived at five. They open at 4:30 and there were just a few tables left. The venue is in an old vintage building so common across small town Oklahoma. It's definitely casual with a very relaxed atmosphere. There is no menu and the offerings are limited: prime rib, sirloin steak and ribs. There is a wonderful salad bar. The salad is cold, as are the plates. On the salad bar is fried Okra and brown beans. They also offer a complimentary rib for each diner. The rib was very good. I ordered the sirloin. It was cooked to order and was flavorful. Sirloin is not a cut I would order if given options. Wish they had filet, T-bone and ribeye on the menu. Jan ordered the prime rib. It was nice and she enjoyed it. Texas Toast is served with the meal. It was nice to do something different. We enjoyed the meal. The hospitality was exceptional. The service very good. The prices are moderate. From the outside the building is pretty modest, but once you step inside you immediately get that cozy, homey feeling. Another unique feature: the restaurant is only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 4:30-9:00 PM, and there are no menus. Your server simply tells you the options: * 8 oz or 12 oz Sirloin * Prime Rib * Rib Dinner * Chicken * Smoked Sausage * Salad Bar * Baked Potato, Sweet Potato, or Fries In my opinion, this is a classic approach -- keep the menu simple so the food and experience can shine. Based on reviews I had read on Facebook and Yelp, the advice was to arrive early or expect a line. Since this was our 20th anniversary dinner, we arrived about 30 minutes before opening and waited comfortably in the parking lot. Good move -- we were seated right when the doors opened at 4:30. The atmosphere inside is dimly lit and quaint, giving it a relaxed small-town steakhouse vibe. Our server Virginia greeted us quickly, took our drink order, and we both ordered the 12 oz sirloin with baked potatoes. The salad bar is simple but well done. One detail I loved: refrigerated salad plates -- in my opinion that's the only proper way to serve a side salad. The offerings included iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, onions, shredded carrots, cucumbers, chives, croutons, and dressings like blue cheese, French/Catalina, and ranch. They also offer fried okra and pinto beans, which adds a nice Oklahoma touch. Instead of rolls, each diner receives a barbecue rib to start the meal -- now that's a unique and delicious idea. Our steaks arrived shortly after. I ordered mine medium rare, my wife went with medium rare plus, and both were excellent. The first bite had that unmistakable mesquite flavor, and the seasoning was spot on. Honestly, we probably didn't need the 12 oz steaks -- neither of us finished them. Could I have? Sure. But why be miserable? The meal was outstanding and exactly what we were hoping for on a special night. The only small disappointment was that there are no dessert options, but that's hardly a deal breaker. Final thoughts: Ken's Steak & Ribs is absolutely worth the trip. What a find!! We were driving back to Oklahoma City from the watermelon festival and decided to stop here for dinner. We waited 20-30 minutes on a Saturday night. The free appetizer rib was delicious. I got sirloin steak for my entrée, but I should've gotten more ribs because they were that good. The salad bar was nice. The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I knew I had found what I wanted all along. A place that was more worried about food, service and atmosphere than all of the modern chic facades. I was not disappointed. Inside I was greeted warmly, seated promptly even though they were packed, and before I blinked complimentary ribs for the table?! Instead of having a long confusing menu handed to me, I was given a list of 5-6 options by the server. I love it! The meals all come with a modest but delicious salad bar that also has some well made baked beans and fried okra?! My steak and baked potato came out perfect and with plenty of butter & sour cream to make it my own. This place is amazing! It's totally worth the out of the way drive if you're on 44 or in OKC. First timer! Wife and I met her sister and bff at Ken's on a Thursday evening, around 6pm. They were pretty busy, but we were seated right away. (We did have to ask someone what we did because it isn't entirely clear where you wait, etc.) It's a little dark where we were seated, and pretty noisy, but not too terribly distracting. Our server was Marti. She was very polite and helpful with us newbies. She took our drink order and a basket of ribs appeared out of nowhere! The all-you-can-eat salad bar looked so good! They had brown beans and fried okra available, along with the normal salad fixings. We all ordered our dinners when our drinks were brought out. They have sirloin, grilled chicken, ribs, smoked sausage, brisket, and I'm about 99.99% sure she said prime rib as well. We ordered two sirloins, ribs, and grilled chicken. The sides are baked potatoes, fries, or curly fries. Everyone got baked potatoes except me...I got curly fries because I love fries! The ribs were terrific, and I'm not even a big lover of meat. The barbecue sauce is very meh, but they honestly didn't really need sauce. The ladies with the sirloins said they were fantastic and didn't need steak sauce. My grilled chicken was super flavorful and not dry AT ALL. Ken's does their limited menu right. Definitely worth the 45 minute trip for us! I wouldn't necessarily choose to visit this place again. My steak was really overcooked but the server didn't come back and check on us so there wasn't much I could do about it. The fries I received (curly) were like the bottom of the bag little tiny broken pieces that I ended up eating with a spoon. I did really like the okra from the salad bar and the ranch dressing. I ended up going out to the car while other people in my group chased down the check to get paid out. I hate to be that guy and rip an OK institution, but I finally tried Ken's and it was a major disappointment. Arrived about 4:45 and there was an expected line. Didn't take very long though for our group of 8 to get seated. The salad bar was ok but with the cheese not being grated and everyone having to cut it themselves it just made me cringe. The fried okra though was nice and crispy. Probably the best thing I had. Wife and I got prime rib. Good size and not too much fat but the mesquite overwhelmed it and there was no horse radish sauce with it. Both my girls ordered their steaks medium rare and they were both overcooked. Ribs were nice but again they were overpowered by the mesquite. The toast they bring with the honey was a nice treat. Our server disappeared and all drinks ran dry. Wife saw her and 3 other servers standing around when she went to the restroom. And I know this is an old place but they could stand to sand and repaint the stall dividers in the men's room. We when travel to Winstar we always make plans to have dinner at Ken's. The steak is done to perfection. Don't really have to use a knife, so tender. The ambiance is perfect. Anyways, their menu is pretty simple and I ordered a 12oz sirloin cooked medium rare with a baked potato. While your steaks are cooking you get directed to a salad bar which was quite nice. In which you could easily get full from so I'd eat light. The steak came out and it looked good at first glance, but when I cut it down the middle to check if it was cooked how I ordered, it was definitely cooked medium well. Still tasted very good but it wasn't as juicy as I prefer. Sad to say that the most exciting part of the meal was the salad bar and potato. Took some stars off cause the none of the steaks we ordered were cooked medium rare. Place was too far and I don't feel it was worth the drive. Ok, this place doesn't disappoint, the food was so good. My husband went with the classic steak, and I tried the prime rib, oh my, melt in your mouth. This little place has restricted hours, just Thursday, Friday, & Saturday nights from 4:30-9:00, and although if you don't arrive at 4:30 you will wait in line. The food is worth the wait, their baked potatoes are monster size and cooked perfectly; my husband said the steak was well seasoned, tender& juicy. The salad bar is basic, but don't eat too much salad or you won't be able to eat your meal. The rib appetizer was so tasty, we asked to take some home, at$3 per rib they'll make a great lunch tomorrow. Oh I know, the meat eaters in my life have always suggested a particular steakhouse in the Stockyards when asked what steakhouse reigns supreme in Oklahoma. Query this: What are those people going to do now that they are no longer in my life? Because I'm cutting them out! Ken's feels like home with the salad bar. It's hard to miss the block of cheese. I love the whole veggies like radishes, green onions, and jalepenos. It takes you to a simpler way of life. Don't be tempted to eat too much on the salad bar because you're about to get a pork rib app for each person at the table. The dry rub is awesome. I had the 16 oz prime rib. I was in heaven. It knocked that other steakhouse out of the park. I took the advice of the waitress and other Yelpers when I saved the Texas toast for desert. It was fantastic doused in honey. I live in Houston now, after living in OKC for seven years, but Ken's Steaks & Ribs is my favorite restaurant. Period. It still comes up in conversation, and my writing below is what I told a friend of mine who was wanted a "hole in the wall" stop between Dallas and OKC. Ken's Steaks & Ribs in Amber. Do it! There are, I think, five menu items (rack of ribs, Cornish game hen, big steak, little steak, special of the day), with the only option being what kind of potato do you want, and do you want to add a sausage link. Instead of rolls pre-meal, you get a basket of beef ribs, one for each person at the table. Then the salad bar/buffet is GLORIOUS. It has the most nutrient deficient, pale, iceburg lettuce you have ever seen. There is a gigantic block of cheese that you just have to carve chunks off of with a community knife. And soup? You bet, and it's only ham & bean. Non-salad vegetable? Yep, and it's the most unhealthy we can make a vegetable, fried okra, and you can have as much as you want. For like 4 hours after you leave, you just crave water because you consumed about three weeks' worth of salt. Worth it? 100% yes. read more

They drive from EVERYWHERE to enjoy the smoked ribs, chicken, steaks, and prime rib.
