The setting is clean and well lit. However, the food is mediocre and over priced for what you get. I have visited several times and, in each instance, found the waitstaff to pleasant but not friendly. I also found myself repeating what I wanted several times (i.e., "yes, I am sure I do not want milk in my coffee"). There are several excellent diners in the area where the food is great, fairly priced and the waitstaff is fantastic. Go to one of those diners and don't waste your time here. read more

Stopped by for brunch with the Mister. Used to bank here but didn't realize how big the space was. The conversion into a restaurant was pretty neat. As everyone has said, the decor is cool. The front room had a very spacious feel to it and loved all the booths. However, we sat in the back room and it was tight, tight, tight - almost as if they tried to throw as many tables and chairs into the back as they could to counter the spaciousness of the front. We were stuck in the corner with two other parties/tables blocking us in. Even the waiter couldn't get through. Our service was very friendly but slower than we expected, though we could see this wasn't par for course for the rest of the room and it was packed for a holiday weekend. The omelette was good and not the usual egg-ingredient pre-mix blob but all the stuffing rolled into a neat egg roll (1.5 to 2 eggs' worth maybe, not 3?). The 7 grain toast was a nice twist. My large cappuccino was indeed large, but I had finished it before our orders arrived. Did not order coffee or tea but saw others get their own cute tiny pot of coffee/water. The Mister was going to try the French toast but heard the next couple talking about it (not in good way, probably about portion size as the toast did seem pretty small) so he skipped it. The girl next to us raved about the quiche (impossible not to hear every word). We didn't have the famous Belgian hot chocolate but saw that it came with a huge marshmallow - will have to try this next time. It seemed that half the people that we outlasted had questions with their bill - not sure what that was all about but something to keep an eye on, I guess; probably just newbie issues. The prices vs portion size were about what you'd expect based on the ambiance - as in more than a regular NJ diner but about right for a nice Ridgewood establishment - though I think it really depends on what you order. Though we did not get to experience the front room, I would highly recommend not sitting in the back room if you want to have a conversation - the acoustics were horrible for dining, but great if you like sitting through an orchestra warm-up. The Mister and I were yelling at each other even though we were touching elbows at a tiny round table and I really did not need to hear all the silly teen girl talk at the next table. Overall, a cute addition to the Ridgewood dining scene and a welcome brunch option for the times when you just don't want to worry about gigantic portions. While our meal was nothing to rave about, we also could find nothing to complain about and will most likely be back because it's just too cute of a place not to, but hopefully when it's less crowded. We were looking for a great place for brunch and this place had received very good reviews, especially for french toast which I love. Unfortunately, when I received their french toast, I couldn't even eat it because it was like eating straight oil. As I cut into the toast, oil literally was visibly draining out of it. I attempted to soak some of the oil with my napkin, but it didn't really help. The waiter got us our beverages right away, but never came back to check on us even once. I had to use my fork to stir my coffee (no spoon), I needed a replacement napkin for my oil soaked one, we ran out of coffee and water and no one came to refill. I had to go to another restaurant to eat right after. Maybe the kitchen was busy, but I have never eaten deep fried like french toast, it was awful. Would appreciate a good recommendation for brunch, but definitely not here. read more

Raymond's is seen as a fun breakfast spot, where families can enjoy each others company while eating good food. Today, it was all but that. As soon as I walked in, I eyed an empty booth. But, when I asked to sit there I was told that it was for a larger party. I understand that the booth could hold a party with one more person, but what I don't understand is why there was a party of the same size as me at the next booth and an even smaller party next to them. This set the tone for the meal. I was eventually seated at a table near the constantly opening door which made my legs almost frozen by the end of the meal. We ordered a coffee, a small juice, and a large juice- but was presented with two small juices. The food was overpriced and for what? I ordered a farmers scramble- aka eggs on bread with a Brussel sprout and an entire field of onions. The omelettes weren't as fluffy as usual and the sausage was extremely salty. Had dinner here the other night. 4 for food, 1 for service. I had the meat loaf which was great and my wife had fried chicken which was outstanding. A little overpriced for what it was, but not surprising for the area. Service was painful though. After taking our order, we did not see our waitress again for the entire meal. Had to ask a busboy to find our waitress to get the check. She literally threw the check on the table as she walked by without stopping or saying a word. Upon trying to pay with an Amex card, I was unpleasantly told that they don't take Amex and I had to use a different card. At no point in the evening did she ask how our meal was, if we needed anything else, or utter one courteous word. Went here for dinner with a friend and was surely disappointed. We ordered calamari for appetizer. For $11 we got a 'basket', which was mostly tentacles, and flavorless marinara as dipping sauce. The calamari were small and tastes most like fried breading. For dinner I was in the mood for breakfast and at a diner style restaurant I figured chocolate chip pancakes were a good bet. I was wrong. The pancakes were more like silver dollar pancakes, very thin, and had very little flavor. They weren't the fluffy and delicious pancakes I was expecting. Also for $11 I expected a larger portion than four small pancakes. We ordered fries for the table which for $5 they gave us a large bowl. You could taste the grease in every bite. Either the oil was old or the fries were old but the fries were either too burnt to eat or lumped in one big ball - horrible. My friend got a sandwich which looked good and would be the only thing I would get if I returned. There are better options in the area and this lace is definitely over priced. Went here for breakfast on a day off with the kids. Spent $60 and service and food was horrible. Eggs and pancakes, french toast were all cold because they sat too long before our waiter could be bothered to bring them out. We had to get up go find him to order and to ask for the check. Once the food was delivered, which was by someone else, we never saw him again. No one asked to refill our coffee, waters, or clear or drinks. The honeymoon is over with Raymond's now that they are open a few years. Took my youngest there as a treat for a before school breakfast on a weekday. They opened a couple of minutes late, not a big deal. Hostess sat us at a nice table then turned around and went back to her cell phone. Two wait staff walked around filling water jugs, setting up other empty tables even though we were the only customers in the place. Sat for 5 minutes hoping someone would come over, ask if we wanted coffee, water etc. nothing.....5 minutes later I was having a very nice cup of coffee at daily treat down the road.....staff at Raymond's didn't even look up when we walked out....too bad....have found them pricey but very nice service in the past.....not anymore read more

After eating in montclair and loving it, we decided to try the one in Ridgewood. We started by telling the waitress we wanted drinks without any sugar. She recomm the Pomegranate lemonade. Which was loaded with high frutose syrup Although she was friendly and attentitve I felt like she didnt know anything about the things she was serving. First time here and probably the last thanks to the blonde waitress serving us. My mother and I came in at 4:04 for some brunch, but we weren't aware that brunch ended at 4:00. My mom ordered eggs benedict and I ordered the avocado toast and poached eggs. I also ask for a side of home fries. She comes back and tells us that brunch is over and they're no longer serving eggs benedict. My mom has a bit of spanish accent but it's not that hard to understand. My mom asks what she would recommend and the waitress gives her a dumb look as if she's not understanding the question. She then looks at me with a 'wtf is she saying' face. The waitress then leaves until my mom decides and when i'm looking for her to order she looks at me then goes to talk to her coworkers for 15 minutes!!! When my mom finally orders she gives her a dumb look again. Our food took a while to come and I wanted to ask what was up and as i'm looking around for her I notice she's sitting down eating on her phone!! I've been to Raymond's in Ridgewood 3 times now and just love it. Their chicken & dumpling soup is outstanding. You can tell they use only the freshest ingredients and I especially love that they use organic pasture raised eggs...that makes such a huge difference. I love Raymond's! I've been here several times and every time, I leave satisfied. The restaurant itself is adorable! The food is amazing! I always get the eggs and grits, which is so delicious! My boyfriend almost always gets the breakfast burrito, which is very tasty. I've tried their french toast and it is out of this world! They also have phenomenal coffee. If you go on the weekends, expect there to be a wait, which should be no surprise to anyone going to a restaurant on a weekend. The wait isn't bad though. My only issue with Raymond's is that one of their waitresses is very rude and I've experienced her attitude multiple times, despite me doing nothing to annoy her. I've worked in restaurants since the beginning of college so I understand the restaurant business is exhausting, but being rude to customers is not okay. If it weren't for the rude waitress, I'd give Raymond's five stars. read more

I once found a piece of hair in my salad and I never wanted to go back. However when I did go back after a few months, I went for brunch and the food wasn't bad. well, let me just say this: i am a big fan of classic diners such as this, but usually the diners i go to know how to pick waiters that aren't disrespectful to their customers. These waiters should be exceptionally kind considering they can charge us 13 dollars for a bowl of boiled pasta with cheese. First of all the waiters take for ever to take your order and than even longer to bring your food. While i was strarvingly waiting i wanted to munch on some bread. I was with my 3 friends and they gave us 2 pieces of bread. hun can u count there are 3 of us. so i had to continually ask for more bread in order to not starve to death while waiting a long ass time for my food. my waiter had the audacity to stop giving me bread after our second basket, i kept saying please can we have more and she would walk away to go gossip about me in the corner with her little waiter friend. It is my right to get bread from a restaurant is it not? Went to Raymonds today for lunch, passed by it the other day and it looked interesting. Decor is retro, music is loud and talking over the music makes it louder. Food was okay not exceptional, desserts were very good. Service was questionable. Took my iced tea and never returned with a refill and sandwich came out wrong (avocado blt instead of a turkey avocado). When we asked for dessert recommendations were told that the german chocolate cake was very good - got the menu and it wasn't on it and it was not available. Ordered red velvet cake and a pecan chocolate tart to go...when we got home we had apple pie and the tart. Both were good but if you take out - check your order and if you eat in - have it repeated or written down! Better places in the area to eat, will not likely return. read more

Wow. What can I say about Raymond's. FIrst off, it is always my go to suggestion when someone needs a brunch recommendation. It is BYOB so we usually bring a bottle of champagne and ask for orange juice for the table. So perfect. Now, for the food. I have never gotten anything I didn't like there, nor has anyone I know! My absolute FAVORITE is the breakfast burrito bowl. The poached eggs are always perfect, the seasoning is delightful, and the crunchy tortilla strips bring it all together! Last time I was there I got the fish tacos. The fish was nice and crispy, the slaw was light and fresh, and the rice and beans were delicious. They always have great specials so I would recommend checking them out. You never know what they're going to have. Sometimes on the weekends there can be a long wait 30-45 minutes, but it is always worth it, and they'll take your phone number so you can always put your name down and walk around Ridgewood until you get a text. Raymond's has a great location on Ridgewood Avenue, and such a cute atmosphere inside with an old-time diner feel. The french toast was delicious! It was pan-fried with a crispy outside but moist inside, and served with a helping of fresh strawberries, blackberries & blueberries. I wish the coffee had been served a little hotter-they give you a small pot that has about 2 cups of coffee in it, but since it wasn't that hot when I got it, my 2nd cup was cold. I will definitely be back though; I want to try the lunch/dinner items next time. read more

I really liked this place when it opened. I think it was the novelty of it. The food was definitely way better than the usual diner fare. However, as time went by, I started to get tired of this place--largely because my girlfriend and I can never agree on where to eat and we just default to Raymond's. We would come almost once a week for brunch on the weekends. The menu typically stays the same. Even the specials started becoming familiar. I still think it's a great joint to hit up occasionally, especially in North Jersey suburbia, where corporate mega-chains roam the highways, churning customers in and out like a sausage factory. But I've since moved out to Jersey City where there are a lot of smaller, quality restaurants. Raymond's isn't what it used to be for me, but it will still always hold a place in my heart as that diner we'd go to during that time when we lived in that area. read more

When I woke up I had no clue where I was, after 6 minutes of blindly walking around I realized I was in the beautiful Raymond's. As soon as I sat down to a table I was immediately slapped because apparently I was supposed to wait to get served. I go to order breakfast expecting fast food, but instead I'm served a 1 hour course of yummy food. I tried to order a martini with my breakfast but they declined me, something about it being under 21 or something. I also never received my happy meal that I ordered to go but that's besides the point. I was extremely happy with my meal, I give it a 65/100 or a solid D (I am a teacher). read more

Absolutely loved everything about this place. We first came on a rainy day when another place we were planning to go to had no availability. I was a bit skeptical because it had a bit of a 'diner' feel to it but all the food was great and the service was absolutely exceptional. My son had to go to the basketball practice couple of blocks away and one of the waiters offered to borrow his umbrella so we can come back and have dessert. As a result of our positive experience, I have scheduled a dinner there with a bunch of friends with kids and it was also great. The service was very attentive but not annoying, the food was tasty, and the blueberry pie - just amazing. We had about 6 kids aged 5 through 7 between us and one of the staff actually came out with a bunch of tatoos and other stuff to entertain the kids. She sat down with all the girls, talked to them, applied their tatoos, etc. Honestly, the place is great for kids, the food is really good, they have enough choices on the menu, and I dont understand why it is only 3.5 stars on yelp. Eggs were OK but French toast was delicious! My latte was good too. Service slow but to be fair it was Sunday and it was busy.

This is the perfect place for young families. We are there about twice a month because they make the best pancakes and french toast. They have set a bar for my kids where no where else would do. The breakfast service is prefect for us, tons of little kids so you are made to feel comfortable immediately. The service is always fantastic. I do think they lean on the pricey side for breakfast. If you can get past that I would say to go especially if you have a noisy toddler...no one judges lol read more
