I have eaten at Raymond's countless times now. Service is always top notch, and the food is delicious! The place is often packed and sometimes you need to wait for a table, though at its busiest I've never waited more than twenty minutes. If you get there and there is a wait, it's well worth it. If you want to avoid waiting for a table try a late lunch or early dinner. Now on to the good stuff, the food... Brunch is incredible; the Norwegian Eggs Benedict is my favorite featuring Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon on potato cakes. They also make a killer Steak and Eggs and Huevos Rancheros. For dinner I recommend the Moroccan Veggie Burger, it comes with a delicious spicy yogurt topping that really brings out the flavor of the veggie burger. Their meatloaf is also very good and so are the fish and chips. For Desert I highly recommend their pies (there is usually a pie special for desert). Last time I had their deep-dish blueberry, it was a massive slice of pie and the whole table shared. Raymond's is absolutely one of my favorite places to eat in Montclair. They have a good menu for every meal, and I've never ordered something I didn't like. read more

What's good: The shoestring fries and the service. What's bad: Pretty much everything else! We went before a show at the Wellmont Theatre. I ordered a cheese steak, and both the bread and cheese were stale. My wife ordered chicken with a side of fries, and got something totally different. Additionally, the acoustics of the building were awful, which meant you could hear every conversation going on except your own! And rest assured, if a baby cried or a dish shattered, it felt like it was happening right next to your ear. I felt for our waitress, who apologized profusely and insisted the kitchen read her order wrong. I came on a Wednesday around 11-12 and the wait was about ~15 minutes. My boyfriend and I were originally going to The Corner but the wait was half an hour so we decided to try Raymond's out. The wait was quicker than 15 minutes and they even text you when your table is ready so you're free to walk around even though the weather was quite brisk that day. The hostess and waitress were both very nice. We got a corner booth table and my only complaint is how close each table was next to one another but not the biggest deal in the world. We both ordered a dish including poached eggs, I ordered the Norwegian which was delicious and my boyfriend ordered the avocado toast. One of his poached eggs was completely cooked but the waitress immediately apologized and offer to remake the second half of his dish that was uneaten. We also ordered a raspberry lime rickey which is was a well-balanced drink of sweet and sour! Overall, Raymond's is a lovely brunch spot for people who don't want to wait an absurd amount of time for a table. The service was quick and food was delicious. **Update: Came back here on a Sunday! Waited around 15 minutes for a table. There was a huge mishap with not being able to sit at our table outside since it was "in the way of the waiters" but we saw a couple sitting at the same spot just minutes before we gave the hostess our name. Then, it took some time again to seat us inside since some older ladies decided to sit at the table we were originally seated... Food took forever and service wasn't up to par. They changed their best dish! Raymond's FRENCH TOAST used to be the best French Toast I have ever had! What an outrage it was to receive subpar Texas toast slices. My husband and I try to stay away from the diner scene in New Jersey, usually because the quality of the food is just "meh" and the menu options are almost always the same (chicken francais, chicken parmesan, all-day breakfast, etc.). But every time we walked past Raymond's it was packed - inside, outside, and I'm sure elsewhere if they had it! Finally, curiosity got the best of us and we caved. We went for dinner last week with a friend of ours, and besides a little confusion with our waitress over when we would order (we were trying to see if the rain that had started would pass) everything was definitely better-than-diner quality! (phew!) The decor was nice - like the classy older cousin of your typical New Jersey diner - and they have plenty of seats outside, which is always a plus (unless it's raining or too cold out). The waiters all wore trendy denim aprons and jeans with white shirts and the bar had a retro, Film Noir feel. Swanky! Our friend ordered the potato leek soup, which was not overly salty, just perfectly seasoned. I really wanted to try the chili cup and kale salad, but opted for the shrimp and grits because our waitress said it was the most popular item on the menu. Unfortunately, I feel like I should have trusted my instincts, because the grits were all but flavorless. The only bites that had any flavor at all were the ones that had chorizo and roasted tomatoes. Even the shrimp tasted like they missed the flavor train! Thankfully, the meal was redeemed by dessert. I ordered the NJ peach and raspberry crumble, which was served with a beautiful scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. It was the perfect size, too. Not too big, not too small and not overcooked, either! (It can be tricky cooking those crumbles without caramelizing the sugars too far.) While their dinner service didn't blow me away, I'll definitely be back to try brunch, because that's when the big crowds seem to flock to this place! read more

I LOVE this place. It's one of the BEST brunch places in NJ. Weekend brunch typically has a wait of 30-45 minutes at least (which good brunch place doesn't right?). It is BYOB so feel free to bring along a bottle of champagne for those mimosas! The Huevos rancheros are one of the best I've ever had, eggs Benedict & pancakes are great too. The Belgian Hot chocolate...mmm....to die for! I've had dinner here as well a few times & it's also very good, bring along that bottle of wine! The neighborhood is great, very quaint, so you can take a stroll after brunch when the weather is good and check out the cute antique stores etc. Street parking can be hard to find at times, but there is a parking garage behind the restaurant & it's really inexpensive. read more

Went again today after a little while. I swear this place never disappoints. Ever. From the service to the food to the drinks to the ambiance, everything is incredible. I had the California Chicken Sandwich this time, and despite how large it was, I devoured it all in one sitting. Bacon was nice and crisp, bread was soft, and avocado was fresh. Fantastic. I went with my mom today (who probably loves this place more than I do tbh haha), and she got her usual Burrito Bowl, which I forgot to mention as a suggestion in my previous review. It's a go-to - doesn't disappoint. Anyway, just wanted to write an update just to remind everyone who comes across this restaurant, in whichever way, that it never disappoints. We haven't been here a few years and decided to have dinner here tonight with my sister and her teenage kids (6 of us). We were seated immediately and then waited 20 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge us (it wasn't busy). It took me asking two waiters and the host for our waitress to finally greet us. Her expression when she walked over looked like she just picked the shortest stick and had to wait on us as her punishment. Service was average from then on. Food was average too. New England Clam Chowder was watery. The Fish Taco Salad was ok - the mahi mahi was a tad overcooked and the dressing was bland. My teenage daughter had the cheeseburger and fries. She said it was ok and remembered the fries being crispier. My son liked his short rib special so that was the only upside to our dinner. If you want to try Raymond's, go to brunch on the weekends. We just had breakfast there today. My husband had the French toast and I had to stop myself from stealing it from him - it was golden, buttery and delicious with real maple syrup. I had the Migas which is scrambled eggs, tortilla and salsa. The tortilla strips were nice and crunchy and the scallions and salsa bright and vibrant. Not to be missed here are the lattes. I'm a Starbucks addict but coffee here is in a class of its own. The coffee has a delicious caramel taste to it and is robust but not acidic. Service was friendly and professional. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary so I decided to go Raymond's. I've been there before with my mom and really wanted my husband to taste the breakfast burrito and french toast. When we arrived the hostess told us it would be 15 minutes but got us in there in 5 minutes. Although it was really packed in there our waiter was attentive and our food came out really fast. I was stuffed after eating the French toast, I had to take the burrito with me. Everyone sitting near by kept asking me about the burrito because it looked so good. I would definitely go back. I've only been there for breakfast. The prices are reasonable. They have some nice variations on old favorites, such as Norwegian eggs Benedict (with smoked salmon instead of canadian bacon). What's off... You know, I think they've just gotten to be such an institution in Montclair that they may have lost a half step. In the restaurant business, if you're not getting better, you're getting worse. On this most recent visit, the potato pancakes seemed a little oily, and the food looked and tasted like it sat for a couple minutes before it came out. Also, they give you a small pot of coffee with your coffee cup, it allows you to pour your own refill. But it's not an insulted pot, and my coffee gets cold in the pot by the time I pour it. I'm sure this is very helpful for a busy waitstaff on Sunday morning, but my coffee was cold. The staff is friendly, no problems there. So, I guess I'll say, GO to Raymond's for breakfast. You'll probably do a lot better than at your local diner. Nowadays, it doesn't wow me like the first time I went in, maybe 4 years ago. The relish on top of the burger tasted more like roasted peppers but it was spicy and smooth textured; the burger itself had a lot of flavor with whole chickpeas inside as well; definitely had a spicy kick to it; the bun was nicely toasted and was like a combination of croissant and hamburger bun with sesame seeds on top; Greek salad was made with watercress, green & black olives, tomatoes, and feta cheese); grilled skirt steak (juicy and tender, great flavor and not too salty) *Migas (Mexican scamble with crisp tortillas, poblanos, and salsa verde; this was pretty damn good; cheesey, not too eggy; I liked the amount of veggies, peppers, and onions they put into this scamble; flavor was not lacking at all; not salty and I enjoyed every bite; the eggs were fluffy and perfectly cooked) *pancakes (wow! how did they whip the eggs to get these little pancakes to be this fluffy?! they were buttery and rich and light all at the same time, the syrup definitely brought a whole new dimension to the pancakes too) *sparking pomegranate lemonade (tangy and bittersweet; it was good but definitely requires an acquired taste) *house ground turkey burger (the turkey itself was moist and fresh although I felt that they should have cooked the patty more, not sure if it was pink because it was a little raw, I thought the turkey meat itself lacked flavor, I thought it needed more salt and pepper, I mean I know they added some herbs to the patty but it needed something more, overall, I wasn't impressed with their turkey burger or their fries either, I think they have better breakfast) Raymond's is a great local spot with quality food. The place has a 30's feel to it because if the decor (very nice I may add), the service was very friendly and was knowledgeable of their menu. A great spot for brunch in Northern NJ. My wife and I went at 12pm on Sunday. It was only a 20 minute wait considering the place was packed. Seating can be tight if you don't get a booth but it wasn't uncomfortable. The french toast was delicious. I loved the crispy outside. The bacon, avocado, and scallion omelette was pretty good. You have the option of having all egg whites for an extra $1 but you can't ask them for some egg whites. I tried a bite of my wife's breakfast burrito that was pretty good too. I had walked out of the Ridgewood location back on Mother's day, due to a limited menu and having our name initially skipped while waiting outside. My co-workers and I have a weekly ritual of grabbing brunch after our Tuesday meetings. We found ourselves here as we'd never been and heard it was superior (being the original and all). Well, the Montclair location's menu is just as small and after taking a good glance, I saw that the food was pricey as well. I went with the quiche which came with salad for $12 bucks. It was a slice of quiche, and while good, I could find bigger and better for cheaper in Manhattan so that's saying something. Raymond's has been a pretty consistent breakfast choice for me since I moved nearby. It seems to be a happening place with a nice atmosphere and everyone we take here seems to give it good reviews. The french toast is yum! Not so enthusiastic about their dinner choices. The Vegetarian Chili could use more kick, the Moroccan Veggie Burger could use a little more heft and the Mac and Cheese is just a downright disgrace. It was so watery I had to practically eat it with a spoon. They need to take a trip to Brooklyn, eat at Dumont and then steal their recipe because they do it right. Came in looking to see if there was an open table for me and my family (my wife and I have two small children). Hostess told me that a table for four had just opened up in the back and that they should be able to seat us in "just a few minutes." I assumed this was just so they could clear the table. After some time had past (certainly more than "a few minutes") I realized that the table had not, in fact, "just opened up," because we were still standing there waiting to be seated. Perhaps they had requested the check, or maybe even paid, but clearly had not left yet. I was annoyed. I felt like I had made it clear that we were only interested in eating there if there was an open table, and I had been lead to believe that there was one, falsely. I had to work to get the hostess' attention again, only to have her admit sheepishly that "Unfortunately, the wait time has increased a bit..." I was angry now. I felt like I had been lied to. I told her we were no longer interested in eating there and were going to enjoy our brunch somewhere else. I left feeling like they had just wasted our time. This place is way overrated, overcrowded, overpriced, and the service I received from this hostess was abysmal. I would encourage folks to check out Montclair House Grill down the street. That's where we ended up going that morning, and we really enjoyed it. They seated us right away, offered super friendly service and are far more reasonably priced. read more

We've been coming here for years took a break due to COVID. Decided to come back to one of our favorite spots to only be disappointed greatly. While I loved my Huevos Rancheros I did not like the spicy Mexican hot chocolate..i was basically born eating jalapenos but that jist left me coughing more than enjoying it, a bit disappointed with that my sister couldn't even finish hers. The service was alright but no one really checked up on us and we came on a very slow day I really just wanted my bill to leave. I was expecting more from these reviews definitely. At 5.25 for a cup latte Id rather go to Starbucks or Argo Tea. So my impression was just this place is ok, but not for me. read more

We would rank this the highest quality brunch spot in Montclair. Very much a NYC feel, with thick bacon and great home fries. Last time we were here my GF got the fried chicken and waffles with sriracha syrup, and loved it. Typically will have to wait a bit on weekends, but worth the wait. Very good vibe as well. read more
