I found this place on a whim, but I now regret not finding it earlier. The food is fresh. The portions are not huge but well sized for the quality of the food. All the items have unique flavors. This is not your average Mediterranean restaurant. They really do ascribe to the "fusion" element and have arranged their flavor profile and menu offerings to suit. I have been wanting to try this place for a bit. Recommendations did not disappoint! Ordered the red pizza, ground lamb pizza and margarita pizza- each one unique and delicious. Shared with co workers who thought same. The red pizza was sweet with great flavor layers- margarita pizza just perfect/ and oh the crust.... Pita bread line- thin crisp - made for a less doughy pizza - so we weren't left feeling full and heavy. Came here with my coworkers for lunch, and it was excellent. And so I came back with my girlfriend, and it was superb. Chicken and lamb kebabs were juicy, perfectly seasoned. The rice was savory, the salads were succulent. The cocktails were some of the best we've had in years. Our standards are high, and Rawa blew us away. Great service, too. Our choices worked pretty well for two people (well, we were definitely not hungry for several hours later)... -Momyaldi pizza ($17): This was a lamb and eggplant pizza. It was delicious but just be aware there's no cheese on it. I love cheesy pizza so this reminded me more of a flatbread. -Falafel ($12): One of the most moist falafels we've had, plus it came with a pretty decent sized chopped salad and huge, hot, fresh out of the oven pita bread. This was my first time here as my mentor suggested it for a late lunch and to be honest, nothing about it stood out to me. I used to live in Westville and moved away right before Rawa got there. Anyways, the patronage was not diverse and the decor was quite bland. I got the Margherita (spell check)pizza and it was alright. Our waitress was sweet but took a while to bring us our checks. It's not as nice as when I used to eat in obviously -I miss the hot bread and the ambiance (they have lovely wall art too) - but it's a go-to when craving higher quality Mediterranean dishes. We were excited to try this place because of all the good reviews but was quite disappointed. The prices were a little expensive for what was offered. The waitress wasn't able to offer any recommendations on any of the drinks or food. One of the items we got was the dip sampler. It's 18 bucks for four dips of your choosing... a little pricey. And they only gave us two pieces of pita bread. Then they asked us if we wanted more so of course we said yes because it was only two pieces. They came back with one more piece and then was charged for it. Seriously? Then we got the sticker shock of the bill. I wouldn't go back ever- but I have to say some of the pros. I tend to use yelp quite a bit for researching food like everyone else but find myself rarely posting. After eating at Rawa I felt compelled to write this review. The food, staff, and ambiance is all amazing. We arrived at happy hour took advantage of the choose your dip, pizza, and a beer for $25. I went with my friends and fiancé so we ordered an array of items. For the dip we had the standard Hummus and the Muhammara. Both were fantastic. The pita bread you dip with is baked on demand and comes fresh, steaming out the oven. For pizzas we had the Red, Mamyaldi vegan, and the seafood. The Mamyaldi was a mixture of carmalized vegetables. I have never enjoyed a vegetable pizza as much as I did at Rawa. The seafood pizza though was the standout. Before I make my next statement let me just preface that I love New Haven style Apizza and I LOVE Pepe's. I believe that the seafood pizza at Rawa's surpasses Pepe's clam pie. Overall it was a very satisfying experience. I would recommend this spot to anyone who loves pizza and would love to try something a bit different. I am looking forward to next time. read more

We have lived down the street from Rawa for just over a year and haven't made it in until now. We have walked by and driven past often, but the restaurant doesn't usually look busy, so we weren't sure if it was any good. I'm disappointed we have only now experienced this restaurant, and it's a shame they don't get more business! We came in rather late in the evening (9:30 PM) on a Saturday and we were seated quickly. I had the Rawa cocktail (Sauza tequila, Cointreau, and hibiscus infusion), and it was delightfully fresh. We shared the baba ganoush, which came with fresh pita; we devoured it within minutes. For our entrees, we split the falafel plate and the chicken biryani; both were SO good. Seriously, it was the best falafel I've ever had--there was some seasoning on them that blew my mind. The chicken biryani was perfectly spicy and was magical with the cucumber mint yogurt sauce. Lastly, we had the baklava; it was super tasty, and I wanted more! Our server was terrific--she was very attentive yet not intrusive. When there was a small issue with our bill, she took care of it quickly and gave us two extra pieces or baklava for the inconvenience. Dear lord. Came here a few nights ago after a lovely day spent sightseeing/walking miles all over New Haven. Needless to say we came in extremely hungry. Although it took a little longer to receive the food (which could've been my hanger kicking in) my friend & I were BEYOND satisfied with every single dish we ordered. You could taste the love & effort put into everything- incredibly flavorful and truly homemade mediterranean food. We LOVE Rawa! My fiance and I don't eat meat during Lent, and we came to or ordered take-out from Rawa at least three or four times during the six-week period, because when we ate at Rawa, we didn't even MISS meat. They have the most wonderful "small plate" dishes for us to share, so much so that I always advocate for splitting a bunch between us (never win that argument, so I can attest their falafel is also amazing) - but their baba ghanoush, mujaddara (those fried ONIONS!! I literally DREAM about them, they are SO delicious), labneh and hummus are just fabulous, with fantastic warm pita on the side. They also have a great dine-in happy hour until 7 PM (at least on weekdays, not sure about weekends). The FOH staff, cooks, and many of the customers seem to be Mediterranean/Middle Eastern themselves, and you can totally tell from how legit the flavors are that you're getting the real deal. The service can be slow - when we came it was just one waitress covering the tables and bar - but hey, this kind of food is meant to be eaten and enjoyed over a longer period than our American sensibilities anyway, so I'm not holding it against them. I'M GAGA FOR RAWA! Only open for take out currently as they remodel the old Stonehearth. As a someone who practices plant based diet I was blown away by the options available o their menu. AVOCADO SALAD- Say what?!!? It's so fresh and leaping with flavor. Your mouth will thank you. FALAFEL- Fa La La La La So F-ing Good! They are soft, crispy, and light. Like no other. 6 tasty little reasons to order out. PITA- Warm and soft... pita perfect. HUMMUS- Nothing short of a divine party in my mouth. Fresh-fresh-fresh!
