I still call this place Cominsky Park and probably always will. I wish I had photos of the old Cominsky Park but the times I was there I never had my camera. This park itself is amazing, modern, easy to get to from the highway or public trans. and they go out of their way to entertain the crowds with everything from fireworks to tons of promotional game days. Did I mention this is the home of the winning, yes winning White Sox! read more

I have been making my journey through major league baseball parks and finally made it to this one. I was immediately disappointed that youre only allowed to be on the level you have a ticket for. I have been to 12 parks and none of them have this segregation rule. I like to walk around and enjoy the views and take photos. As you can imagine upper decks are overcrowded and body odor a plenty. Park is also pretty bland in color. Also found it surprising that standing room only tickets are $75. Park does have some nice views from the ramps and was decently clean. Other than that not very memorable. read more

The good: U.S Cellular Field is pretty accessible from most parts of Chicago via the Red Line. If you are coming from the suburbs you can take the Metra to the loop and take the green line over. Parking is pretty convenient at $20 in the main lot (reasonable compared to most sports venues) and the staff does a great job getting you in and out at a quick pace if you choose to drive. The ballpark is good for Sox fans obviously and a person who just likes attending games in general. Very family friendly for younger children and pretty safe with most drunkness kept to a minimum. I've been to a lot of different MLB stadiums and the cell definitely is one of the more tame and family friendly. The bad: This stadium is pretty basic from a visual perspective compared to other MLB stadiums. If you were to do a tour of all stadiums, it probably wouldn't register as one of the more memorable stadiums. The design and overview is pretty plain compared to the other parks in the league as there aren't many features or aspects that are truly memorable. Overall: If you are a White Sox fan or a huge baseball fan you would obviously enjoy being at the park and taking in the atmosphere. Food and bathroom lines are very manageable and move quick so you wouldn't miss much of the game. Like all stadiums food and drinks are overpriced. The commute driving or via train is very convenient and efficient based on the location and setup. Good if you like smaller crowds and a more family friendly stadium but if you are looking for a packed house with a electric atmosphere you probably won't get it at U.S Cellular. read more

Love White Sox games - even though the name of the field changes every other day, the field is still the same (albeit the last renovation). The atmosphere has that southside pride, welcoming employees and an overall love for the team. Easy to get to from public transportation and lots of parking lots if you want to pay. Good food selection and great seating. Come to a game!! read more

Going to Chicago for baseball, I was pumped to Wrigley Field and went to Guaranteed Rate simply to check it off my bucket list. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised at how fun and inviting this stadium is! We went on "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day," and there was Irish music playing and lots of specials. Plus, there was a great fireworks display after the game. It doesn't hurt either that our tickets were on $5 a piece! read more

As a Northside Chicago baseball season ticket holder, you wouldnt think I would not be caught dead at the southside ballpark. But as a big baseball fan I like to go here once in awhile to treat myself to a great ballpark like "Sox Park". It may not be the greatest team, or the greatest ballpark, but dammit this is my second home and I love it. Always an incredible time once I hit 35th and Shields for a great day game or night game. Fantastic food. A huge selection of beers. Delicious frozen margaritas. And there's always some crazy event going on during a game (Elvis night, star wars night). Not so much as a tourist trap like what you're getting at Wrigley Field...these are true fans here watching their favorite team play while having an amazing time with jam packed entertainment. read more

So I live in New York, but I've always been a white sox fan. My brother chose Chicago as his bachelor party, so I flew in a night earlier to go see a game. I had pretty good seats for the price ($80 for 15 rows behind the plate) and enjoyed a few of the food items. I got the polish sausage and peppers and the Italian beef sandwich. Both were good and were washed down with a Goose Island. The stadium itself was pretty nice. I enjoyed my experience and glad I got to see my Chisox. read more

GRF is my 20th MLB park. I was prepared to dislike it based on non-Yelp reviews but was actually quite impressed. Access from our downtown hotel was simple via the Red Line. It was 40 minutes from our room to our club level seats. The park does not show its age thanks to several expensive upgrades. I rank the food options the best among the MLB parks I've visited. Views from the club level with superior and definitely worth the price. A minor critique is that GRF has a relatively bland design similar to many other modern parks. How does it compare to Wrigley? Well, Wrigley definitely has a certain aura and tradition and the Cubs are currently a good team. Guaranteed Rate also lacks obstructed views, high steps and cramped quarters. read more

Went to last night's game and took the clear promotional bag I got from a previous game. Only to get to the gate and have it taken from Mr because it wasn't allowed because it was too big. Mind you, I only had one item in it. I told her i saw other people woth the same bag and she said because they have little kids. She could have offered to hold it for me but just took it. Then I check in on my mlb app and the booth that I normally go to had a sign that said go to first game booth. I asked a worker there where that was and was directed to home plate. Get to home plate and no booth. Ask another worker and they send me to 100 which is where I originally was. Find the booth and stood in line for almost an hour. Get there and was told I couldn't get a promotional gift. I guess I expected a bit more cooperation and got far from it. I would have been happy to get my bag back or even the darn fanny pack, but no . read more

Adam and I enjoyed coming to this park for a game. We were spending 1 day in the city and we decided a game would be perfect. We were able to get last minute tickets through stub hub at a great price. Since we got our tickets through stub hub we had to go to a ticket window and shoe them the purchase. From there they printed out tickets for us. We must go through security to get in the park but it went very quickly. We were very lucky when we went that they were giving out beach towels as a freebie. It was so incredibly hot when we went that the towels were needed to protect skin that was showing and to cover our seats so we didn't burn the skin off of our legs. The food options were pretty good for a ball park. Adam and I both got hot dogs and enjoyed them. I got a cheese dog and loved the blessed lady who put the normal amount of cheese on my hot dog and then said we should do extra cheese shouldn't we? And piled it on. YES! Always extra cheese! We also go Italian ice to try and help us cool down. There was a long line since everyone had the same idea but it was worth the line. It was fabulous and just what we needed for a hot day. There are a ton of lots around the area that you can park in. We found one that was pretty cheap but a little bit of a walk it was no big deal though. Overall, a pretty good ball park. The game was great and we had a ton of fun even though we were all burning from the intense sun. read more

I like seeing games here. The stadium is not the fanciest but it gets the job done. Tickets are usually super cheap (we bought the family package which was $11 and includes a hotdog, chips and a drink!). The seats were in the upper section but behind home plate. IMO, they were great as we could see the game and see a bit of Lake Michigan and parts of South Side Chicago. Getting to game isn't too bad as well. They have a parking lot where you can tail gate at or you can take the El, which drops you right off at the Stadium. The crowd can be a little rowdy but what sporting event doesn't have rowdy fans. Overall it's a decent place to see a game. If you are lucky you might even see fire works. read more

The stadium is nice and has a wide variety of food and activity for fans of all ages. In the outfield there are several statues of past Sox players. There is also activity for children in the outfield. All the staff I dealt with were friendly. Chicken sandwich was good and Pretzel was soggy/terrible. Home team lost. I went with a small group and everyone seem to have a good time. Easy to get to by public transportation and there are a lot of parking lots across the street from the stadium. I will probably not call it Guranteed Rate Field for a long time. I will continue to call it White Sox Park. Maybe slip and call it Comisky Park (Old park before they built this one). This park seems more family friendly compared to Wrigley, were people want to be seen and party. I might be back here for Elvis Night, so they 'party' here as well. read more

The stadium itself is just fine. Good sight lines from outfield bleachers. The food prices are insane as expected. But the worst thing about this stadium is the ridiculous amount of parking spaces that fill areas where they could have restaurants and things to do before/after games. Am I a sports fan? Nope. Am I a sports food fan? Yep! Did somebody say melty cheese? I'm all over it! Nachos, cheesy fries, soft pretzel and cheese... reason enough to get me out to a game. Sure, I could get all these things and more from my local grocer, but there's something about paying a ridiculously inflated price for something you'll end up eating out of your lap within the confines of a noisy, crowded stadium that make them all taste better. No really - why are they SO good this way? I came here this past gorgeous Friday to celebrate Danny W's birthday and had an absolute blast. Getting to the stadium from the loop was a relatively affordable cab ride and didn't take nearly as long as it seems to take when I'm driving myself. If you do happen to drive, you won't be screwed by the parking situation like at Wrigley. Here you'll find several stadium lots for parking that cost just a nominal fee. We joined up with our crew for some well-planned tailgating in the parking lot. It was so nice because it was a Friday evening and pretty early in the season so it wasn't packed, the crowds weren't obnoxious, and we were able to enjoy a few brews and sandwiches before entering the stadium. The crowd here was great. Enthusiastic, friendly, lots of families and even more activities for kids. What was especially nice was the abundance of bathrooms and no matter what point in the game it was, there was never a line. I wish I'd have done a bit more exploring because while I could see that they had a ton of stuff going on, after looking at pics post-game, I still managed to miss a lot. Pretty bummed that I didn't find the stand selling a piles of nachos served out of a regulation-sized baseball helmet. Or the Mexican street corn stand. Instead, I purchased an impulse churro that was $4.50 and tasted about as good as any stick off the ground would have tasted had I put it in my mouth. It was great to see so many craft beer options here, though in hindsight I def wish I would have drank half as much as I did because A. I think I had a minor brain bleed this morning and B. My wallet seems mighty sad now. Still nice to have options beyond MGD and Miller Lite. So while I couldn't tell you a single thing that happened during the actual game, the fireworks above our bleacher seats and the whole experience were mighty rad. read more

So I'm a bit of an oxymoron. I live 4 blocks from "The Friendly Confines", yet side with the White Sox. Why? No self-respecting St. Louis transplant could ever root for the Cubs. Aaarrgh. I've lived in Chicago almost 18 months to the day now. Still hadn't made it to Comiskey, ahem, U.S. Cellular Field. My friend Krissie scored a couple free 100-level tix + a parking pass (I know-- parking!) and just like that, we were off to the South Side. Parking was abundant. The Sox' home is pristine and spacious but most importantly, they've got good beer. Yep, I'm talking premium bottles beyond the usual suspects-- the de rigeur domestics Miller and Bud. Also, they have funnel cakes, churros, and a decent sausage lineup. The bathrooms didn't scare me, and the fans were fun, knowledgeable and civilized. My first White Sox game and my ticket stub reads "Seat 1". Damn. I'm one sentimental sucker. read more

As a Chicagoan, I can't lie the stadium where the Chicago White Sox plays will always be called "The Cell". If you ask an older individual they will always call it Cominsky Park. Guaranteed Rate Field doesn't bother me nor anything about this field. I'm a south sider and this field is nostalgic. Great team. Great food. Great beer. Plenty of history in and on those walls. Get the helmet nachos. It's a MLB size helmet filled with nachos and toppings of your choice. Stop by the kraft kale for some great brews and views. There's plenty of Chicago foodie destinations in one place. Hands down the best food and MLB baseball you'll experience ever. Plenty of parking with prices starting at $14 and in Sunday parking is $10. If you're ever in chicago and want to come to a game don't hesitate coming to Guaranteed Rate Field. read more

Rate Field - Great seats everywhere - Stadiums & Arenas Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I've been sitting on this review for a WHILE because who consults Yelp before going to a baseball game?! It's like reviewing a fast food chain or something. Furthermore, this review has nothing to do with the White Sox and everything to do with the stadium and the experience while there (which, coincidentally, is usually during a White Sox game). SO, this is probably the best MODERN stadium I've been to. Sure, Wrigley Field has nostalgia (call it personality) in spades, but it has none of the amenities of the Cell. U.S. Cellular Field has decent bathrooms, good food (and decent selection), and nice seats. If you can get over all the advertisement, there are large screens to watch the game from ANYWHERE in the park. That makes every seat a good seat. Also like all of the crowd engagement they do since there's a fair amount of down time during those nine innings... U.S. Cellular Field has all kinds of options when it comes to buying tickets - ranging from Groupon deals to corporate perks. I've done it all. My favorite tickets are the ones that come with an open bar (isn't that everyone's favorite?), but you could also pay a few buckeroos and get some good ol' fashioned bucket seats and pay for food and drinks as you go along. In regards to those tickets that come with some sort of buffet and open bar - there's at least three kinds of those: 1) The ones where my company paid for us to be in the lower-level picnic area. We were right behind the team dugout. That was great. We were in a large, indoor space that had cafeteria-style tables with benches. They had a buffet of hot dogs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans, and stuff like that. We had an open wine and beer bar. We were permitted to watch the game on television screens until a certain time. At that point, we were all ushered out into our seats (regular bucket seats), where we were allowed to bring our drinks with us. 2) There are probably a range of Groupon deals for U.S. Cellular Field, but the one that I'm thinking of is WAY across the field. Like, on the other side of the outfield - beyond home base, the pitcher mound, second base, and all of that. It's been described as the ghetto of the Cell, but has also yielded some drunk wild times. It came with free beer and food. Like the picnic area, there comes a point where everyone is cut off and ushered to their seats. The only difference is that folks aren't allowed to bring their drinks with them. Chug time! 3) My favorite food and drink deal is the Gold Coast Ticket section. It is a large boxed seat area directly behind home plate. While I've been up there, at least FOUR fly balls have whizzed in at frightening speeds. Anyway, the food was really, really good. Of course there were hot dogs, but there were also ribs, brussel sprouts, fruit, and all kinds of other things from a buffet. There was a full open bar where I could get practically anything I wanted. A server came by our seats and brought us nachos, pretzels, and popcorn. Partway through the game, they switched out the dinner food and brought in desserts. LOTS of desserts complete with ice-cream and tons of toppings (including Jelly Belly jelly beans!). So yeah. I really don't have complaints about U.S. Cellular Field. They are able to accommodate all kinds of prices and experience preferences. Of course everyone can enjoy the baseball game and the entertainment during the down times of the game. read more

Okay, I'm not from Chicago, so I'm not EVEN touching the Cubs vs. Sox thing...this review is SOLELY about the polish sausage with grilled onions at Comiskular Field. I'm not a huge meat eater...but that SMELL!! They need to bottle that smell and SELL IT! I'm like a dog with my head out the window and nose in the air as soon as I hit the parking lot. Who doesn't love a hot dog topped with mustard & onions alongside a nice cold brew watching men run around in tight pants while getting a nice tan? Err...wait, some boys don't like this do they? Hmm, forget about the men in tight pants & how do you feel now? Yeah..that's what I thought. I have been a White Sox fan since birth. Yep, my momma turned my dad & her 3 children into die hard Sox fans. I refuse to call it US Cellular since it will always remain Comiskey in my eyes, but I surely don't mind the upgrades that happened once US Cellular took over. There are very few obstructed view seats unlike coughcoughwrigleycoughcough, the crowd is a good mix of families, 20 somethings, and drunk Irish Southsiders. Gotta love 'em! The hot dogs are standard, but they offer grilled onions as a topper. Yum! The beer, however, is of a higher quality than coughcoughwrigleycoughcough. I recently went to a game only to find out they had Oberon beer, which is one of my favorites. Only for $6.50 and its a 16 oz. Um, sure...I most definitely think I will. read more

This ballpark stood out for many reasons and it has a lot to do with our society today. I appreciated watching a game that had a lot of diversity and blue collar people who know and speak baseball. It didn't feel corporate like the other parks. Fans were great here and were really into the game. When getting to the park, we paid $20 for parking which was pretty reasonable as no street parking anywhere in site. They let you tailgate which is great for people that participate. When entering the park we did a self walking tour and came across the guest services counter on the top level and got our "1st time" packet along with a great conversation. The staff here I have to say are great and so welcoming with a smile on there faces. Shoot when we got the helmet ice cream the lady filled it to the top with heavy topping, 4 people could have eaten it. That said they were a little firm on the kids park as my little one had open toe shoes and they require sneakers.....but they had 3 levels of activities, a little kids dream : ) The park in general is not very flashy but good views from throughout. We had great seats btw dugout/home plate 7rows back, the only fault I would say are the seats weren't wide enough or gave you much room compared to the other parks we've attended. Food is nothing to rave about as the usual along with heavy Hispanics cuisines were widely available. Overall we did enjoy the game and atmosphere but seriously they need to change the name of the park... read more

I'm not a Sox fan, but I have to say this is a nice stadium. They have a plethora of activities for the kids and the kid zone which is cool. They don't allow you in there without a kid and check to make sure you are with the right kids which is a nice gesture. My kids enjoyed it and although I love Wrigley, the experience is not as great for kids. The tailgating is also a nice feature. We had an issue with the online ticketing system so that was the docked star. Evidently you have to attach them to your phone asap or you can't get to them later. So we had to go the box office and it took almost 15-20 minutes to get it figured out. So if you're buying tickets online and splitting, make sure everyone in the group does that asap. read more

I'm not a sports fan nor an athlete. I am not a White Sox nor a Cubs fan. I couldn't follow any sporting event if my life depended on it. But I really enjoy going to baseball games at "The Cell." The theme nights, while usually corny, are fun to stick around for. There's dog day, half way to St. Patrick's day, mullet night, and lots and lots of fireworks shows after night games. And then there's the little intermissions where animated McDonald's products race each other on the jumbotron. The McGriddle never wins, probably because he's weighed down by that syrup muffin, but I have hope that someday he will make it. All of this, on top of my favorite concessions cheese fries and yard stick vodka lemonades, are what baseball means to me. It's also really fun to tailgate here. There is plenty of parking available (yes, you have to pay, but where in Chicago is parking free?) and a special zone for buses and RVs. Every year we load up a school bus with our friends, a grill, and coolers of food and booze, get to the game about 2 hours early and tailgate our butts off. It's a really good time and something I look forward to every year. Since parking is usually $20-something, it's nice to be able to get cheapie tickets sometimes. You won't be behind home plate, but it's decent for any regular Joe. It may not be particularly pretty here like San Francisco on the bay, but you aren't going for the scenery! I've been to three Cubs games, and I could pass on it. I've been to one Bulls game, and I hated it. I've been to one Blackhawks game, and that was just okay. But I have never had a bad time at The Cell. It doesn't matter whether the team wins or loses, it's about whether or not you are enjoying yourself. Go White Sox! read more

First, I just wanna throw it out there, if I won the lottery I would buy out U.S. Cellular Field and re-rename it COMISKEY PARK, so for my sake and any self respecting Sox fan, I will refer to it as Comiskey through out the rest of this review. I am die-hard! Secondly, the food is incredible. They don't have dollar dog Tuesdays anymore which is a bummer, but it's worth every penny. If anyone is lucky enough to make it up to the Stadium Club for some non-ball park food, please try as many things as possible. I have NEVER been dissappointed with any of my selections. Another thing that's great about Sox games is the tickets are pretty cheap in comparison to the food and beer; but to be fair, no matter where you go to get drunk in this city, you're gonna pay bogus prices for a beer. I know we're in a recession right now, so buy a case and drink it on the red line or in the parking lot and save yourself some cash! They also have the kick ass margarita man that Shouts "Heeey Margarita" and you're like I swear that guy was just about to sing The Macarena. They are $7 or $9, but you get to keep the cup. Finally, the fans are the greatest!!! I have been to so many games in my life time and couldn't count how many strangers bought me a beer or shared a bite of their hot dog or a handful of peanuts. Oh yeah and we don't talk on our cell phones mid game, which is ironic it now being called US Cellular Field....What's your excuse Cubs fans? and at least they were able to salvage ONE win in the post season before blowing it....GOOOOO WHITE SOX!!!!! read more

I've met ball players, watched some amazing moments in baseball history (Hello Mark Buehrle Day!), been to Opening Day, been to Crosstown Classics, snapped candids with SouthPaw, showered (yeah, you heard me), enjoyed the perks of the Stadium Club, thrown peanuts out of the box seats (as a kid, yo!), been to private Miller parties, shopped, eaten, drank, sat in Scout Seats, gotten hammered (only once because booze was free that one time in Scout Seats), and annoyed the piss out of Ozzie (that one time I got drink). Needless to say, I love this place. I love watching the opening sequence before the boys roll out onto the field. I love singing along to the tunes. How fitting that my 100th review is of something that has so much to do with my childhood and who I am today; sports. I grew up calling this place Comiskey Park and that's what I'll continue doing. Thanks to my dad and my five, that's right five, brothers I learned to appreciate sports at a young age. My older brother is a cubs fan and my dad was a white sox fan so you could imagine the rivalry. It was bitter sweet when they announced plans on re-building the park and changing the name.As I look at it today, I'm kinda glad they did. The architects were smart to turn the space behind center field into the "fan deck" for parties (SF Giants are you listening?). The seats are comfy and just the right amount of leg space so you don't feel crammed. My fam has season tix in lower box so I haven't really seen the game from all angles. But when wondering around, I have yet to see a bad view of the field. Checkout the double deck miller lite sports bar. The beer is abundant and if you're in club they serve into the 9th inning (this is not a myth). They even have a all veggies concession (im assuming a Californian suggested this). The 2-foot long hot dog is something you just have to try for the heck of it. read more

This is a top notch ballpark for two reasons: the fans and the polish sausages. Both are the best of any ballpark I've visited. Also, the public transit options are excellent to get to and from the stadium without a car. THE POLISH! The polish here are perfect and served with grilled onions --on the concourse level only--with both brown and yellow mustard to choose from. Everywhere else besides the concourse has polish with diced onions and only one mustard option. THE FANS!....yes there aren't nearly as many of them here as there are on the north side, or at other MLB stadiums, but unlike those places, the Sox fans here are at the park for one reason and that's to watch baseball. I love that no matter where I sit, there are always baseball nerds nearby to discuss confusing calls by the umpires, or celebrate good baseball. I like that a good play by the other team sometimes gets a cheer from these fans---they appreciate the sport as well as their home team. MISC. DETAILS! This park is a lot better after the renovations a few years back...the black and grey colors and the chopped off upper deck make the stadium seem more of an actual home to the White Sox than the old 'New Comiskey Park'. The L train access makes a trip to see a Sox game easy and cheap. They also have fireworks on many Saturday night home games and plenty of gimmicky nights if you like taking your dog or elvis suit to the park. I fully recommend going to both Chicago MLB stadiums because they are both very fun for very different reasons. Just don't expect to see a win on the North Side ;-) read more

Back in the day, the city had the chance to convert the Old Comiskey Park into something cool. They could have modernized it, made a cool area around it and kept the history. Instead they tore it down and built a rather awkward modern stadium. And it's the Cell now, sorry White Sox fans. Comiskey is gone. The neighborhood doesn't add to the park, there really isn't any atmosphere except for the tailgating in the parking lot. Parking is hassle free, that is a plus to the park. The upper deck is still bad even after they redid it. The expensive seats are pretty good. I've sat in both for Cubs / Sox games which can be pretty ugly. We need to just go back to the once a year means nothing cross town classic game. The park's ok, nothing more. read more

Going to grade school less than 3 miles from the Friendly Confines, you guess correctly that I did not grow up a White Sox fan. But I am a baseball fan. I love going to games, I love ballpark food. I love the excitement when there's an awesome play. Because my husband is a White Sox fan, we've visited Cellular field many times. We recently attended a Family Field Day where we were able to play catch in the outfield, sit in the dugout and have picture ops with Southpaw. I love the lay-out of the stadium. All seats are good. No obstructed view seats that I've seen. I also love that the seating sections aren't so long so that you have to walk past 20 people to get to the aisle/to your seat. The seats seem roomier than other baseball stadiums I've visited too. The ballpark for the most part is clean and well-maintained. The concourses are wide and open and there are lots of bathrooms (never had to wait long in line!) The only ballpark food I can speak to are the hot dogs and nachos--yeah, we're kind old school that way. But I do know there's lots more offered--brat's, sandwiches, churros, and more. Fireworks, special theme days, it's a great place for a game. It's also very family friendly. I don't hesitate taking my son here because there's room enough when he gets bored and wants to roam around. They also have a Rookies club and a place for older kids to practice their baseball skills. Kids can also get a cool certificate commemorating their first White Sox Game. Pretty nice. read more
