Once I showed up he had someone inside shooting and he was able to work with the both of us, but spending more time with me as she was a frequent visitor of the place. Al worked with me on techniques and aim in addition to showing me how awesome the compound bow is. He told me if I wanted to bring a group that it was more than welcome in which I may do in the near future. NATIVE HISTORY The…read moreAmerican Indian Center is rich in history and culture. What I love about this center is that they open their doors to everyone and they help everyone in the neighborhood in need. I volunteer with the charity Fight2Feed and we use their kitchen to cook for the center and for street missions. I was lucky enough to get to run the kitchen on Valentines Day (2015) when we made chicken soup. It was a cold day and everyone loves a warm bowl of chicken soup. I had a great time leading the crew as we prepped and cooked. Recently my family was invited as guests to enjoy a traditional Indian PowWow and a "giving thanks" dinner the weekend before Thanksgiving. How could we pass up an invitation to share a meal with native Americans. If it wasn't for their hospitality with the Pilgrims then they would have never survived the harsh winter. It also snowed on this day too making the dinner even more special. The meal was incredible and our favorite part was the fresh squash. The squash was a 5th generation plant from a seed that was carbon dated from 850 years ago. Archeologists digging in Northern Wisconsin found a sealed Native American vase that contained the squash seed. It was so special for us to share this squash with everyone at the center. I will tell you that the flavor was incredible. It was an honor to share this squash. I also loved that the seed was not tainted by big corporate America. The PowWow also had two drum crews that took turns playing traditional music with singing. There was also traditional dancing and my little one could not contain herself. She jumped right in and had a great time. This was one of the best nights we've had in a long time. We also came back here on Thangsgiving Day and cooked meals for 400 people with Fight2Feed. Fellow friend & Yelper Kyle H even asked me if he could join in and help. He did an amazing job making the largest batch of stuffing I've ever seen. I love stuffing and I must say it tasted perfect. I'm giving Kyle H a perfect "5 Stars" on his dish. This center offers so much for the community by offering support and food for those in need. I have met so many great people and I am glad to be able to come here and volunteer. I also love eating and writing about food but I really love making food and sharing it with those who are hungry. Food is the one universal bond we all have and I am glad to have found this place 10 months ago and I look forward to many more experiences here.

I hosted a baby shower at Space 1858 and absolutely loved the space and working with the event…read moremanager was easy and manageable. The space itself is beautiful and open. The front of the space is white with a lot of windows to allow in light for any event. The windows are lined with white, airy curtains that allow light in but give privacy to the attendees. There is a cool brick wall on one side of the space. The back portion of the space includes a kitchenette (no stove) and a space for all of the chairs/tables. A long hallway leads to the back entrance where the trashcans and recycling bins are located. The management includes cleaning supplies, a broom, trash bags, and a ladder. I loved the DIY nature of this rental. You can decide to bring in your own food or have it catered by any company you choose. Since the space is small it would work best for groups of 50 or less and even less depending on the type of seating. More layout and seating info on their site. Logistics- The management puts everything in writing and explains everything in detail so that the day of logistics is seamless. The bathroom is well stocked with toilet paper and hand towels. If you decide to have alcohol you must buy alcohol insurance (more info on their site). You cannot tack, velcro, or 3M stick to their walls. If you do so, there is a fine, or you can purchase more insurance to use whatever materials you want (more info on their site). You will also need to purchase event insurance. All info on their site and on the contract. You will need to clean the space after your event. However, management does have a cleaning crew come in before each event to clean up (so the space is clean for you when you arrive). A word of advice- 1) If you host in winter, you'll need an additional coat rack. 2) If you decide on half-day rental, give yourself enough time to organize, decorate, and clean up at the end. There was another event in the evening on when I hosted my shower and we hauled ass to get everything cleaned in time. 3) Not completely ADA accessible (there is one stair up through every door). However, the bathroom is large and fits a wheelchair. Also, our guest used the back entrance to bring her chair in. It worked well for her. All in all, I would recommend as a small events venue/space.

The room is essentially a blank slate, which allowed us to do the decorating we wanted. It's well-lit. It's incredibly well-priced and they allowed us to bring our own caterer and beverages. It was easy to plug a laptop into their sound system for our wedding and reception soundtrack, and our guests had a blast. The kitchen is a bit small but it worked fine for cold appetizers. Christina was very helpful in making it available for viewing numerous times. We will have beautiful memories of our wedding day forever, and working with Space 1858 was one of the easiest parts of planning the wedding--stress-free, which we really needed!

The 1914 Club is bougie and absolutely stunning, did you know that it's right underneath home plate, um okay? First the team here is so amazing and friendly, we were given complimentary drinks and a buffet of hotdogs and pretzels and popcorn, I took a couple of plastic cups as souvenirs. Everyone was so accommodating, one of the signature drinks for the book release had rum and I asked to switch it with tequila and there were no issues. I don't know how I could ever go to another baseball game and not think of being at 1914 Club, such a cool experience, also their bathrooms are top notch fancy.

When we get to Navy Pier in Chicago, we always make time for the Children's Museum…read more There's a fire engine climber and pole that we love to play on, with hoses, a fire-station-pole, and a fire-targeting game. The fire engine includes uniforms, and there are some other costumes. There's a bulldozer with moving levers to play with. There's climbing ropes. There's a log-cabin to play in, and a colorful steam-punk horse-sculpture made of gears and gadgets. We play here every time. We never get tired of it.

We had a great time visiting here on a vacation with family. Our kids are 7 and 9 and while many exhibits are geared for younger children and we skipped (such as the seemingly favorite water play space and the little pretend village) these, there are a number of building/tinkering as well as climbing spaces that our kids really liked. You could spend probably a whole day here but it's fair to budget just a few hours to a half a day too depending on how much playtime you want to give them. The games area is fun too. They have bowling, giant dominos, checkers, and corn hole. My daughter also appreciated the tiny room with miniature versions of everything. A lot of the tinkering and building stuff relied on recycled materials which you could easily find at home so the experience maybe could inspire for after visiting creative projects. I actually myself enjoyed the painting lab. Since the exhibits change from time to time I think I would come back. I understand that kids must have an accompanying adult, but when you add the non-local pricing up, it's $100 for a family with two kids. I guess everything is expensive in touristy areas like this but it does make this visit somewhat prohibitively expensive when you could, for example, visit the zoo for free. Obviously that's hard to compare and we did have a good time here but that might be my one hesitation.
