With the excitement, I quickly ran to pick up and just looking at , I was like OMG.. did I order an Italian La carte ???? Their menu don't emphasize anything about what comes each dish. Rasraj catered for my wedding last week and they were amazing. Everybody loved the food. Hemal was great with creating a unique menu for us. Since we wanted to have a safe and clean experience during the pandemic, Rasraj also provided us with a full staff to serve the food at the buffet line and clean up after. Their whole staff was great on the wedding day and the live chef was interacting with the guests which was wonderful. Stopped here for lunch few days ago. We tied several of their dishes. Their thalis have only two curries and a dal/kadhi, but have good potion of rice and bread. Taste was ok. Sizzlers are huge (compared to Milan in Bay Area), but flavors were not captivating. Chana Bhatura was ok. Mango Lassi had a strange taste. Falooda was ok. Sweets were quite good. Overall, flavors are too mild. Service can also get a bit slow. Prices are right. The cashiers are pleasant and generous for which I added an extra star. read more

I would give it 0 stars if I could for my experience there today. The guy who worked there was so rude, old Gujarati guy, I've been coming to this place for over 9 years and never had a problem with food or the workers there until now. I bit on a rock I found in my food and I told the lady that worked there and the guy was rude and offered a refund for that dish but I didn't trust their food anymore. I even told them to keep the other dish I hadn't eaten and the Togo order and give me my refund. He was yelling in the restaurant and other people were present there too. Almost whatever food we ordered are sweeter. For the manchuriya sizzler we ordered , the manchuriya is salty. When we asked about the manchuria saltier and when requested to replace the order, the manchuriya sizzler which came back again was saltier too. What should I say about Sev Puri , the sev doesn't look fresh . The taste of sev puri surely tells the sev is not fresh at all . I think I am lucky to live 10 min away from Rasraj. On the days that I crave for good, cheap, and authentic Indian food, I would call them up and place my order. By the time I drive to Rasraj, they have my order ready to go for me. Folks, I am living the life, I tell ya. Rasraj is a small hole in the wall. Don't expect any waiter service. You would go in and place your order at the cash register counter. For your convenience, there are pictures of the food that they serve hung up on the wall. There is another counter where you can get your own water and eating utensils. The food here is very flavorful with a nice kick. I usually order the samosa, Tandoori Wrap (looks like pizza with a lot of nice spices), and the Indian-Chinese dishes. My fav Indian-Chinese dish is the Chinese Bhel, which has crispy noodles with different spices. It is pretty spicy (I think my tolerance for spicy food went up 2 notches because of this dish). Tip: Rasraj does accept credit card, but the minimum purchase has to be $20 read more

Rasraj is a crowded and friendly. You will hear Indian musicals playing in the backround interrupted randomly by an older dude yelling out numbers for pick up. It is vegetarian so I advise not ordering the chicken tikka masala. If you're not surrounded by plastic grocery bags or wearing a saree you may feel a little out of place. :) You won't see much rice around because fresh naan and fried bread are the staple here. Try the Masala anything and the Saag. They come in a small styrofoam bowls and the trick is to get as much sauce on your bread as possible. Chase your lunch with a Mango Lassi, they even have sugar free ones, Whenever you see a sign that says "miss home? home style take out" you know the food will be flavorful and freakin fantastic. This was the first place I ever tried Indian Food, I just wandered in one night and was able to order pretty easily because they have a ton of pictures of their food plastered all over the walls, which obviously makes it a fast food kind of place. They have a huge variety of everything here which can sometimes make ordering difficult, for example if your really craving dosa and then have to choose between like 10 different kinds you might get overwhelmed. Their samosas are really really good, I believe they are also the samosas that are served down the street at Naz cinemas if you trying to get your samosa and bollywood fix all in one spot. The last time I went things seemed a little greasier than I remembered but I cut them slack because the ras malai and the carrot halva were perfect. Even if you want to eat at one of the nicer sit down restaurants on Pioneer, you can still stop in RasRaj to grab some snacks to take home, I love their spicy chevda, and the masala cashews. The dessert section is also pretty impressive, with standard stuff like falooda, jalebi and gulab jamun as well as sandesh, assorted burfi (sounds gross tastes good), chum chum (again sounds gross but....) and khajli. I think you can have them select an assortment and box it up for you so that you can try a little bit of each, as they can be hard to describe if your not familiar with the tastes or ingredients. With most restaurants and shops on Artesia Blvd. if your a female that is not horribly disfigured (and maybe even if you are ) expect some leering from the male employees. I LOVE this place. Honestly i'm a frequent flier, 99% of the time when i'm on Pioneer Blvd, i'm eating here. Here are a few reasons why: 1. I'm vegetarian, this place is 100% vegetarian. I don't need to think. 2. I prefer north Indian food, although they have dosas and south Indian stuff for those who prefer that style of cuisine. 3. I love their chat, their dhai chaat puri, their mogo, their thali, yum yum and YUM 4. Mitthai... I'm a sucker for chum chums.. and they have fabulous ones. LOVE THEM. 5. Ask them to make special chai on the weekends, or else you'll get crap. even if you've eaten indian food before and have your favorites, unless you are an expert, eating at rasraj is an adventure. a casual restaurant with photos along the walls and a list of somewhat unfamiliar names behind the counter where you order await a willing palate. the thali, which looks like an indian bento and consists of two vegetable options, a dal, chutney, spicy cornbread, basmati rice, dessert, and choice of starch that includes naan, tortilla, puri, is a great choice for sampling a few items in smaller quantities. the ones i ordered mine with were a spinach paneer & a benghan (eggplant) dish. the spinach was salty with strong flavors of turmeric and fennel and cubes of cheese. the eggplant, which appeared to be stewed in a tomato sauce with some peas, was sweet, salty and slightly spicy. the puri, a round, puffy bread-like but more light and airy, starch thing we selected was great for dipping into and scooping up the thick vegetables. highly spiced with green chilies, their cornbread was very intense with corn flavor and dotted with poppy seeds. in the tray, was a bright orange-red, dessert ball that tasted like a moist coconut cake. along with the thali plate, we also tried the dahipuri, which are discs a little over an inch in diameter, that are puffed, fried little dough balls whose tops had been cracked open and filled with a combination of chilled, sweet yogurt, a spicy green chutney as well as red chutney, small potato chunks, beans and onions. it was an intense explosion of sweet, sour, salty and spicy in your mouth. i really enjoyed the masala dosa, which is a huge crepe, filled with turmeric & poppy seed spiced potatoes and accompanied by two dips. one was a coconut puree, and the other was a red chili, whose flavor was initially chili pepper before the spiciness starting making its way to the surface of your tongue. in general, the spiciness of the food was a delayed response. first, you experience the combination of flavors, then zings on spots all over your tongue, which didn't stay in one place. it wasn't painfully spicy, but a nice enhancement that made you super-conscious of the many flavors in your mouth. at the end of the meal, i cooled down with a mango kulfi, a sweet, creamy, milky mango-flavored ice cream popsicle. they also have this cola, called thums up, that is like an indian version of coke that really tastes like there are some dark spices in there if you can't get enough from the food. i wish i had taken some notes when the nice guy at the counter went through the list of veggies i had to choose from for the thali and translated what they were. prices are great for the amount of food you get. will definitely return to try other dishes. excellent place for vegetarians and vegans. photos from our meal here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluepupae/sets/72157606793926415/ read more

Seems like it's hard to find good Indian food in LA these days. The interior of this restaurant could use more lighting and the atmosphere is dead. Don't be surprised if you walk in and you're the only person/party there. I'm a simple person when it comes to Indian food, ordering appetizers like samosas and pakoras and main dishes like saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. I love having chaat as a snack or a quick meal. But the chaat here tastes bland and it's heavily drenched in yogurt. If you don't mind taking you food to go, head over to Ambala. read more

I give them a 5 for the presentation of the store. The layout and big screen TV's showing the menus are nice. The service I give a 2. The guy at the register was kind of jerky. "May we have ice?"(him) "everything is cold so you don't need it." Ooookay. "May we have plates?"(him)"they're over there." Hmmm. The food is ok. This is our first time here after they moved to a new location. Between two people we ordered Tandoori Wrap, Pani puri, Chai, Papdi & Dabeli. Chai was watery and too strong. We asked for a new one since we were charged $1.75 for less than 6oz. They gave us same Chai in a different cup.....We found a hair in a Dabeli as well. He probably want me to buy the entire store worth food and spend all my money. I hated that guy.. Once upon a time (I guess in Dec 2010) I used to love this place ..but not anymore. The place rocks! Every time I visit SoCal, I definitely make a trip to this restaurant. The food is really good especially for the prices. My favorites are sev puri, chole batura and dosa. Sev puri is the best here. And the food is really fresh. They have moved to a new location, and it's beautiful! The Dosa smelled very badly. Idli was ok. Bhell puri was very bad. The thing I hate about this place is the way they talk really rude (especially the fatso with a glass and the grumpy old guy). No matter how hard I try to order something in an Indian restaurant that I am actually capable of finishing, I always fail. Their portions are just always so huge. But this time, I was really sad that I failed! The malai kofta and samosa chaat were both so good that throwing away even the small amount of leftovers (too small to really take home) felt like a travesty. I should mention that the samosa chaat was listed as an appetizer on the menu, and only cost $3.50, but was a monster of a dish, with a huge samosa buried under an ocean of sauce, chickpeas, tamarind chutney, and raita... buried so deep it took a bunch of bites of sauce to even unearth it. It was every bit as big as the 'main course' of malai kofta, which consisted of three kofta balls similarly buried in a creamy sauce. I don't quite know how to describe these dishes otherwise, except to say that they were explosively flavorful, the kind of flavor that stops you in your tracks as you lower your unbitten portion of naan back to your plate. The kind of flavor that leaves no doubt as to the amount of spices that were jam packed into your dish in the kitchen. I like that kind of forceful flavor - it's like getting assaulted with novelty. You may not. But if you think you might, you may as well try this place out. It's cheap, it's quick, and it's mountains of food. I know I'll be back. read more

Love the new location (across Postma Furniture and a couple doors down from Standard Sweets)! New location is much larger and even has an outdoor patio. Even the bathrooms got upgraded and aren't as smelly or gross as some other places nearby. As for their food, I'm loyal to them! Good food, good prices. Keeps bringing me back, it's that simple. My only gripe? With 6 TVs, please have at least one of them play Bollywood music videos or movies! When is Yelp going to start allowing 1/2 stars? Rasraj gets 3 1/2 stars from me: 4 for the food, 3 for the sweets/snacks. After a busy morning of wedding shopping for my cousin, we came to Rasraj for a quick lunch. Rasraj is a fast-foodish Indian restaurant in the heart of Little India. After perusing the pictures of the menu choices on the wall, we decided on malai kofta, paneer tikka masala (which I didn't realize existed until today), and papadi chaat. Our food was ready in no time. We started with the papadi chaat, which was flavorful and quite delicious! It was a nice mix of onions, potatoes, garbonzo beans, yogurt and chutney over pieces of papadum. It was a bit on the messy side, but I highly recommend it if you're looking to start off with an appetizer. The malai kofta and paneer tikka masala came out next. Though I've had better malai kofta and tikka masala in the past, Rasraj was definitely not bad in the way of more casual dining. Both dishes were served with a plain naan, which was just ok, but it was fine since the naan was only a tool by which we scooped up the flavorful curry goodness. All in all, everyone was pleased with our rather tasty selections and we finished everything we ordered. After we finished our meal, we decided to browse the extensive selection of sweets and Indian snacks. We tried the cashew masala (which everyone else liked, but I thought was just alright), the farari chevdo (delicious!), and the sugar-free pista barfi (it was just ok, but it's probably difficult to make Indian sweets in the sugar-free variety, so I'm going to forgive Rasraj for this one). Never even noticed this place before, even though it faces the main street and is brightly lit. You order and pay at the counter and then pick up your food at the counter. It's nice bc they have a lot of pictures of all their items, which is helpful since they have an extensive menu. They have some pretty desserts as well as cases of Indian sweets and crackers. I tried a sample of sweet curry flavored potato chips and nuts, which I recommend (although it's on the oily side). They only sell a minimum of a half pound at a time ($8.50 a pound) so I got a half pound, which was equivalent to a small zip lock bag. We ordered: -Paneer Tikka Masala ($7) - This came with Naan. It wasn't very spicy but that might have been bc we told them from the start to not make our food too spicy. It had a few slices of paneer and the bowl was kinda small. -Samosas ($2 for 2) - Even though the menu lists it as $1 each, they told us the minimum was 2 - they should list it on the menu that way then! Samosas were also not spicy and came stuffed with mainly potatoes and peas. -Tandoori Wrap - I'd say this is the Indian equivalent to a pizza. It came topped with a lot of veggies, cheese, and what might have been pomegranate chutney (very sweet). Though it was on the sweet side, it was good. -Danipoori - These came with 7 pieces. This reminded me of loaded nachos, Indian-style. They were full of potatoes, yogurt, and pomegranate chutney and came cold. They get soggy after a while so you have to eat them quickly. They were better than I thought but got to be a bit too sweet for me as there is a lot of liquid inside. I would have liked more chips with them. -Mango Lassi ($1.99) - Sweet and thick - this was yummy! I'd def go back as food is inexpensive and there's a lot to try! The only thing I didnt like was that I felt like they were talking crap about me bc as soon as I started taking some pictures, they started mumbling to each other in Indian. RUDE! read more

While I'm no expert on Indian food, I have had my share of Indian food from Flushing's Jackson Heights area restaurants to Manhattan's 6th street joints. Warning, you must be a little adventurous to eat here because the menu does not describe any of the Indian named dishes. There are pictures on the walls showing the food but you don't know what the food consists of. This vegetarian restaurant has incredibly savory dishes. They have a huge variety of foods from all areas of India and even have 17 types of Dosas! We had the Samosa sizzler which came with three veggie samosa on a bed of bowtie pasta (yes, you might say it's a sort of fusion Indian/Italian dish). We also had the Dahiprui and Khasta Kachori which were all fabulous. This is not a fancy place so you'll be ordering at the counter and picking up your food when they call your number. You'll also eat off of disposable plates and use plastic utensils but the food makes up for the deficiencies in ambiance. I highly recommend the Mango Lassi with anything you order since many of the dishes are spicy and the Lassi helps balance and neutralize the heat from the spices. read more

Horrible food , bad hygiene and to top it off a smart-!&@ guy behind the counter(we saw him be rude to some other customer :( ) Now the food; I never expect exceptional chat in the US (3 yrs and still searching) but the quality here is god awful levels. We orders three chat dishes. Two of them were beyond contempt(sev puri, papdi chat) One was barely edible(tiki chat) . Now the place itself. Not well maintained, stuffy not well aired. Feel very stuffed ( the place is big, but not very comfortable). There was places where water was as it is , un-mOpped .,the water dispenser was not something that would make you want quench your thirst.. I actually love this place and it is pretty much a ritual to take home sweets from here each time we visit Artesia. However, during my last visit on May 31, I asked for 1lb of jalebi, and the young gentleman who packed it was acting funny all the way. Didn't think much of it. When I handed the box to my wife, she noted that it felt light. So we had it weighed in the nearby grocery store and it turns out that the young guy at Rasraj was acting funny for a reason. The box, with the outer plastic bag weighed 0.8lb. Bad food is one thing, but outright cheating - absolutely terrible. Patrons beware of this practice. read more
