My family has been coming here for years. They have added to their menu since but we usually stick to the basics ie onion and chili uttapam, masala rava dosa, and mysore masala dosa. Filling and hits the spot. Realized I forgot to take photos of the food before I ate it.

We got here around 6:30 pm for dinner on Saturday night. Place has quite limited seating so make sure you have time on hand for waiting. We ordered one kids dosa and it came plain as is with a surprise candy inside the cone dosa! That was quite cool! The next was just plain dosa and mysore plain dosa for us but the server kept messing with the order and got us dosas with masala bhaji inside. We had to reject twice to finally get corrected order! Nonetheless the taste is amazing! Absolutely loved the sambar! Would definitely go again!

I was craving Indian food, so a friend took me to her favorite spot in Artesia. We ordered dosa stuffed with paneer, idli, and bindi masala. The portions were large and super tasty. To pick from a huge selection of dosas, I used Menuvision, a new Yelp feature where you can see what a dish looks like before ordering it. It was fast and easy to use.

    South Indian thali

Every now and then, I go to Artesia, CA to satisfy my craving for Indian food. For a vegetarian spot, I go to Udupi Palace, which references a city of the same name in Karnataka, India that is famous for their vegetarian cuisine, among other things. I ordered the South Indian Thali. A thali is a (big) meal served on a large stainless steel platter with a variety of small dishes, including rice, chapati (flatbread), papad (crispy wafer), lentils, vegetables, and a dessert. It's a "personal buffet" of sorts. I personally like to drizzle my dal (lentil soup) on top of rice. I also ordered a mango lassi. Almost everything tasted delicious except that today the chapati was not fresh because it was dry and tough. Also, the papad was undercooked because it was not crispy. If not for these two sub-par items, my meal would have been perfect. The service was good as the waiter was attentive. The place could feel cramped on a busy day because the tables are close to each other. There is no dedicated parking lot. Metered street parking is available as well as nearby paid parking lots, but this could be an issue during busy hours.

The service was pretty good, and the falooda and filter coffee was also pretty good. The only thing off was the prices, they seemed just a little too high, but other than that everything was nice!

The first time we walked past this spot, it was absolutely packed -- so of course, we had to come back and see what the hype was about. Dosa: Crispy perfection with a generous aloo filling (a rarity!). Me: 10/10 Sonny: 9/10 Chana Bhatura: The bhatura was massive, puffed, and served with plenty of chana. The portion size was no joke. Flavor-wise, I'm used to the northern-style chana, so for me it leaned a bit mid -- but still enjoyable. Me: 7/10 Sonny: 9/10 Fresh Lime Soda: Sweet, tangy, and with that unmistakable hajmola kick at the end. Honestly, it tasted so authentic it transported me straight back to my childhood in India. Also all the food came out within 5-10mins! Krrish service

Excellent vegetarian South Indian food. If you like dosas, there's is probably one of the best and very authentic. Restaurant is clean, with simple decor and service is decent.

Stopped in for a quick snack; everything we ordered was spicy. But delicious. The staff were good about making sure we knew how to eat everything and were friendly and efficient. This is not the fancy type ambiance, more very utilitarian. Parking was easy with street parking right up front.

Butter masala dosa with coconut chutney and sambar
    Poonam S.

Literally the best dosa I've had in the US. Tried the butter masala dosa and it was exceptional. The dosa was crispy and buttery, and each of the other components of the dish, the potatoes, chutney and sambar were excellent as well. In contrast, I tried Podi Dosa a week before, which was a huge disappointment, even with "Dosa" literally in its name. There the sambar was watery and flavorless, the chutneys were overly spicy and the dosa was meh. Can't wait to go back to Udupi to try the gunpowder butter dosa and other dishes. I also tried the bisi bele bath last time, as well as the idly/vada and they were excellent as well.

Tomato, onion uttapam with sambar and coconut chutney

Came here for lunch after the New Year temple visit. Ordered my favorite dish, tomato, onion Uttapam, and hubby order rava masala dosa. Uttapam is excellent, and rava dosa was good. The tomato and onions on uttapam was perfect, accompanied by sambar and coconut chutney. So good Service is good, we were seated immediately, served within minutes of ordering. I had masala chai, and ordered another for after lunch!! So good, especially without sugar. Ambiance is pretty good as well, clean and spacious enough.

    South Indian Thali
    Liya K.

I had their masala dosa a couple months ago, which was pretty good, so I decided to try the thali this time. It's a colorful and appetizing plate! If you're thinking about it, I'd recommend sharing one thali with the whole group since it comes with a lot of rice and side dishes. The curries were hard to distinguish from each other, but the portions were generous. Overall, it was filling, though a bit underwhelming. The rasam was tasty and paired well with the yellow rice, which I think was lemon rice. I'm not sure why they added extra rice as a side--maybe it's a standard thali thing I'm not familiar with. The semiya payasam was really good! The beets were a little dry but tasted fine when mixed with the yogurt. The chickpeas had a tangy flavor, probably from extra tomatoes. The chapathi was a bit tough. I thought the sambar (above the rasam) and the vegetable curry (next to the chickpeas) tasted similar, though the vegetable curry was thicker. The final side next to the yogurt seemed to be lentil curry. The pappadam was crunchy and tasty. I went during lunchtime, and it was starting to get busy. It seems like a regular, lively spot for elderly Indian folks and families, which is nice to see.

No frills, but off the hook southern Indian food. Chole Bhatura is best in LA and good enough for a meal. We also love paper masala dosa!

It is still a great value at 21.99 for Saturday lunch buffet. There is a good selection of Indian staples, chicken tikka masala, paneer sag, Muton stew. Being so busy, food is constantly replenish from the kitchen. It's one huge open room and quite hectic at lunch time. There were a lot of servers and they were good at clearing out plates, refilling water and overall vein attentive. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years now. Service has been hit or miss. But…read morenothing I couldn't look past. Today was some of the worst service I had ever seen from the front desk team. The hostesses appeared to be discriminating against a woman because of her service animal. I'm not sure they understand how ILLEGAL what they did today was. We arrived for Mother's Day because my mom loves the all you can eat buffet there and it's one of her favorite restaurants. The hosts up front seemed a bit scattered and were quoting random times to people. We were told it would be about 15-20 minutes. I think we were seated after 30 minutes. They called us up and then told us wait the table isn't ready so asked us to wait another 5 minutes. The reason I took off 3 stars is because a very nice woman had been waiting with her friends and her service dog longer than us. She was extremely patient and kind. She waited outside with her dog and didn't complain once about the wait. I heard the hosts discussing her dog and they were like oh that's a BIG service dog. It was just a normal small sized black lab. And they never began preparing a table for her. The woman finally came in after about 30 minutes to say she had been waiting and was told they were just setting up a table. They kind of brushed her off and said we will get to you. It seems like they had no intention of ever seating her and her friends. They seated multiple large groups before her. We were table of two and we got sat so we thought she would be next and she wasn't. Eventually the poor woman left. They have a sign outside saying service dogs are allowed. This is not true. And you will be discriminated against and not be given a table. I'm not sure if the hosts know how illegal their behavior was. It was clear her dog was a real service animal and the hostesses did not care for her at all. I was a hostess at two restaurants when I was younger and I have never seen anyone treat a customer so poorly before. I truly hope they apologize to this woman. - As for inside the restaurant the servers and waitstaff were extremely friendly. It is a bit scattered and you don't know who your server is so it is hard to flag people down. But they still serve water, naan, and anything else you need promptly. The entire restaurant was packed. Every table was full and the staff always had the food trays full of items. The items also all tasted fresh. All besides the Hakka noodles. That one was a little soggy or over boiled for my taste. I am vegetarian so I got their spinach and mushroom pasta which was surprisingly good. Paneer tikka was also very good. They also had channa/chole. They have street food station where they made fresh pani puri which was great. I believe this station is switched out each buffet day. The last time I was here it was dev puri. And they had someone making paneer tacos. The man making the tacos was really friendly and seemed really happy to be helping everyone. They had samosas and puff pastries as appetizers. They have wide variety of sweets such as carrot halwa, gulab jamun, jalebi, sweets, Kheer, and mango fruit custard. There is a variety of meat dishes such as tandoor chicken, mutton, chili chicken, and chicken curries. I think the only issue with this place is how the hostesses treat customers. Especially new customers. This is their first impression of the restaurant.
