Delicious food! We got a platter to share with 3 people and the garlic naan & Baigan Bharta eggplant curry. Favorites were definitely the Baigan Bharta and garlic naan. They were so flavorful. Terrible service! Grumpy waiter took our order after a long wait. We asked for dessert that didn't have nuts as that's what he came for and he said everything had nuts - what a restaurant in California that doesn't offer nut free options?! We got an unsympathetic "sorry" but on further inspection of the menu there were ice creams that were but free that could've been suggested. We ordered chaat. Sev puri and pani puri were too similar. Sev puri was not on flattened puris. Kulfi faluda was not in a glass as expected but served as ice cream. Not greeted when we walked in or left! Walls are decorated nicely. My first trip to Little India, to try one of LA's 101 Best. My first Rajasthani restaurant, and wow, what a treat! The Maharaja Thali seems like the best way to try the most food. You get rice but also lots of fried things, like bati balls and makka and bajri roti which are rare finds. The chutneys are amazing, and I would just eat them as dips, but they do also pep up the dal. Three deep bowls of dal include gatte ki sabji, kadhi pakoda, and dry sabji. I don't know which is which, but one is smooth, one is smoky, and all are good bowls of comfort. There are also a few little sweets too, little balls and squares with a silky texture that taste like they were rolled in condensed milk. Lots of apps for trying, be sure to share so you can order more. Pyaz Kachori is new to me, and I love the flavorful filling. BEST Samosas I've ever had, highly recommend! Pani Puri take a little work, but I always order them when I care because they're fun. They cover every flavor and every texture with soft potato, sharp onion, sweet tomato, crunchy bits, and fragrant leaves of cilantro. Dunk and fill with cold mint water and eat immediately. This is a lot of food for two people but we didn't waste a single drop. Some dal made it home with us but otherwise we practically licked all the plates. I can't comment on authenticity (because I just don't know), and I have no way to compare, but I'm pretty sure Bhookhe is awesome and would be hard to beat. read more

Friends recommendation on trying one of top 101 LA restaurants of 2023. The area is house of other Indian/vegetarian restaurants. Parking is free exactly in front but just for the first hour. Inside is inviting and the decor is Indian. Did I forgot to mention this restaurant is Indian/vegetarian? Mainly because most of the dishes are vegetarian. Spices are mild but can be spicy upon special request. There's several options of curry but all does not come with rice. Each customer is given a small bottle of water Order Maharja platter (most popular item), kadahi paneer (one of most popular curries) but request to be super spicy, garlic naan, pyaz kachori appetizer. The platter is huge for one person because it comes with three different curries and various of dishes while one plate has a dessert (according to the server). The kadahi pannier has onions, peppers and tofu and looks spicy when request to be super spicy. It's spicy enough to tickle your throat but not enough to burn you if you love spicy food. This was my first time going down to Bhooke but it will definitely not be my last. It is located next-door to a restaurant I visit very often (Udupi Palace) for South Indian food. Bhooke is Rajasthani based north Indian food but also has a selection of fusion Indian Chinese dishes. I didn't get to try those this time I will next time because I will be definitely eat here again. You could tell the ingredients were high-quality and that everything was freshly made. Everything was very flavorful without being oily or heavy. For example one of the dishes we got was Shahi paneer which can be very very rich but this had all of the flavor but the sauce had a lighter almost mousse-like texture...it was really delicious. There was a group of five of us for lunch, we got four appetizers, three main dishes, rice and bread. And split between the five of us came to $19.30 a person . The gentleman who served us was very nice and attentive but also very calm we never felt rushed and in fact we had to ask for the check they weren't trying to get us out of there to get the table. And they had a nice circulation of people coming in without it being overbearing. I didn't even realize they had Bollywood on the television in the background because there was no blaring music while we were there it was either very low or muted. The little tiny bottles are not large enough and environmentally a negative. They can get delivery in big bottles and serve water out of pitchers like other places. We didn't have a reservation when we came in around 6 pm, but were seated immediately as the restaurant was only about half full. Ambiance here is simple and casual. A waiter brought over menus immediately. One unusual thing I observed was that they served us small bottles of water rather than tap water in cups. My husband was starving and wanted to order a lot of food, but the waiter counseled us against the amount we were about to order (a first) and told us to order less. We got four dishes, which still ended up being a lot of food. We shared the aloo tikki chaat, and the aloo puri as appetizers. For mains, my husband had the garlic naan and malai kofta and I had the maharani thali. I can say without a doubt this is the best Indian food I've ever had in the US. The food was bursting with flavor and super filling. Prices were also quite modest. After I ate here, I was already planning my next visit and telling my friends about it. In fact the decoration brings the vibe and even plates is traditional style made out of leave. There was a short wait when we arrived, but the hosts let us know when our table would be ready. They kept coming to give us updates while we were waiting which was sweet. We ended up with the thali, mutter methi malai curry and the achari paneer. The paneer was soooooo good! Tangy and spicy and the paneer just melted in your mouth. The thali here really tastes homemade! I also love that there's so many different types of grain, like the paratha is made from wheat flour instead of all purpose. And it feels a lot healthier since there's nothing with cream in the thali. Also while it's not mentioned on the menu, it also comes with chas (buttermilk). Lastly, the mutter methi malai, was slightly sweet, creamy and savory. The portions here are large so great for sharing! My mom ended up loving the dessert (bajri ka choorma) that she asked if they sold it by the pound. Which they do! After placing our order, the server served the appetisers and after 1-2 minutes came back with the main course and was staring at us as if we were to stop eating and give him space to put main course in our already full table. Really bad service! We order Paneer Pulao and I don't even know how they came up with this idea of just drenching rice in oil, adding small carrot cubes and adding partly cooked paneer and then serving it for 10+$. There was no spices and when asked the waiter, we were told that's how it is made. This is daylight robbery and is a joke in the name of Indian cuisine. Bhookhe in Hindi means hungry. True to this name, I went in extremely hungry to them a few weeks ago. Luckily, they were open AND were serving their King thali, with multiple items on one plate. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The quantity was huge and I couldn't finish it despite my hunger. I am a fan of trying different food and relished the Rajasthani specialties- particularly the Gatte curry (chickpea flour) and the daal baati churma. Butter milk at the end was so refreshing too. I was in Artesia today to purchase mangoes from Pioneer Cash and Carry. Two blocks is an Indian restaurant restaurant listed 49th in the LA Times 101 top restaurants. I always wanted to try this place. This is the perfect time to get some food for me and my coworker and neighbor. As I drove up and parked in front of Bhookhe, I noticed how quaint and beautiful the restaurant looks from the outside. The inside is nicely decorated with images on the walls. The tables are simple that makes you feel like you're invited to someone's home. The type of Indian food on the menu is from the north. My coworker suggested I order the Healthy bread is called Bajri ki Roti. Good Millets for health. Dal makhani for you to try. With the bread above. I asked them if the dal has tomatoes. He said yes. I told him I can't tolerate tomatoes. He told me he can exclude the tomatoes because they have customers who have allergic reactions to certain ingredients. I was amazed and thrilled. Most places have their dal made and I can't have. Bhookhe makes it to order. It will take longer. But it's worth the wait. I also ordered samosas.
