If you've never tried Ethiopian food this is your sign to go! Ras has an all vegan menu with the most incredible variety of plants that will be the most flavorful and healthy meal ever! The food is so appealing that it's always on our list whenever we are in town. The staff is friendly and we've always had a great experience. They had an outdoor seating area but city rules made them put it away and apply for a permit. They are waiting for approval and plan to put outdoor seating again.
All planted based Ethiopian food. It was so delicious and filling but not heavy. The drinks hit 5-7 is happy hour. The waitress was very pleasant The restaurant was beautifully designed gorgeous atmosphere. Can wait to come again!!
Awesome place, especially if you're vegan and/or gluten-free! Great vibes. Plenty of indoor seating and an outdoor patio out front as well. Really delicious cocktails. I got an espresso martini and my friends got flavored margaritas. Happy hour weekdays 3-7. Staff is super friendly. My partner and I split the mushroom tibs entree and the platter for 1. It was plenty of food and they gave us a whole plate of injera! They have a GF injera option too. Definitely recommend this spot.

1000000/10 such a good restaurant! The interior is cozy and fun. The bathrooms are clean. The staff were so fun and friendly. The food is delicious. The Mac and cheese was my favorite but the sambusas were also great. I don't think you can have a bad meal here. Prices are also reasonable. The noise level in the restaurant was fine and the tables are not squished together. Loved my meal here and this place definitely stands out in the plant based restaurant scene in NY.
My daughter and I eat Ethiopian food regularly, but were curious about this place and their vegan spin! We tried the mushroom tibs, ras tibs, and kitfo. The teff injera was very good and all the dishes were tasty as well as quite filling. The kitfo was the best though so different than what I expected (how do you do beef tartare without meat? They found a way!) The server was also friendly and the place felt comfortable -- so we will definitely come back. I think we'll try a few other things when we do: grand Mercato -- which looks like a combo of miser wat, gommen, shiro wat, key sir alicha, etc.
The decor is so nice! It's lively and cool with art on the walls but still very much a vibe with the bar area. Super friendly employees and everything looked clean and well-kept. I was so excited to try the food. The Chick'n sandwich (lion's mane mushroom) was a 10/10. Honestly, the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. I ordered through Seamless and picked it up since I was in the area, and I'm so glad I did. The sauce was incredibly flavorful with a little spicy, tangy, and creamy balance. The bun was soft, the mushroom was full of flavor, and everything just worked together perfectly. I was actually speechless after the first bite. It was satisfying without feeling heavy, but still substantial. The pickle added the perfect bite and brightness. I got the side salad instead of fries. It looked fresh and was a great size (I haven't tried it yet), but honestly the sandwich is the star. I'm definitely coming back soon to try it with the fries.
Tasty vegan brunch with nice service. The vibe is great! It was clean in all of the space and there was plenty of room to move around. My fiancé and his friend visited during a Sunday brunch right at 11am when they opened. We were the first ones in. Seated quickly wherever we wanted, we were given all the time we needed to order. My fiancé got a beer and his friend got the Ethiopian coffee. It was a tasty espresso served with oat milk and sugar on the side. The BEC was recommended by the waiter and it was delicious! The egg was fluffy, the cheese was great, there was plenty of sauce, the toast was perfect. I wish for more potatoes! The scramble was good. The injera is an interesting flavor! It was great as a stir fry. It's a little sour and chewy by itself. The cucumber salad was fresh and great. I'm not a vegan myself, but it's a delicious option for vegans and non-vegans alike.
As a vegetarian, Ras has been on my list for a long time -- and it did not disappoint! I went with a vegan friend and we loved everything we got. Everything was so flavorful and the portion sizes were great, we left so full! We also got a slice of cake that they had special for their anniversary, which I thought was such a sweet touch :) lovely experience overall!
We had dinner here last night. Richard Ann's I spent 7 hours today at the Brooklyn museum which is close by. Then... exhausted we found this plant based restaurant. It is a small intimate setting. We had to sit at the bar because we did not have a reservation. We ordered some drinks (happy hour) ands started with appetizers. Ethiopian food is already primarily vegetarian, but we had a kifto patty made with soy protein that was yummy!!! Then we ordered the avocado (like guacamole) served with crisp injera. I haven't tried injera fried crisp before. It was very crunchy--loud--- but what a great chip it made.
SERVICE - located in crown heights near the Franklin ave metro stop - very small interior with limited seating at tables and some space at the bar - we did not make a reservation on a Friday evening and waited about 45 min for bar seating for a party of three - the decor is intimate yet colorful with lots of candles and wooden accents - service was very friendly and welcoming - ambiance good for a semi casual meal - food takes a while to be served MENU - Ethiopian fusion selection of shareable plates - all vegan/vegetarian - average price FOOD - injera nachos (10/10): crispy injera chips coated in a creamy berbere sauce with black beans, soy crumble, pico de gallo, and a dollop of avocado. This was a great starter to share between 2-4 people. The portion is generous enough so that it feels substantial. It was a fun that fused Ethiopian flavors and ingredients into a modern dish. I really enjoyed the spicy berbere sauce and the texture of the soy crumbles. Highly recommend getting this. - kitfo (8/10): soy protein crumble with spiced oil and jalapeño. This felt like the same soy crumbles that were used on the nachos. Although I liked it, I think it was tastier when paired with the other ingredients of that dish. There was also the option to get the special kitfo that comes with greens and avocado which might be worth trying next time. - grand mercato (9/10): the platter that lets you try a little bit of everything. If you do not know what to order, get this. It lets you sample eight different menu items each with a unique flavor and texture palette. The portion is very generous and easily served two people. Highlights were the beetroot and the ground chickpeas. - coconut leche (6/10): raw coconut and cashew layered cake sweetened with dates and agave. I loved how all the desserts were nut and fruit based. This one was supposed to mimic a tres leches cake which felt a bit out of place at an Ethiopian restaurant. It was too sweet for my palette as the cashews, coconut, date, and agave are all quite sweet naturally. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! The ambiance was very nice and the food was tasty. I would make a reservation to not wait as long.
Ambiance: loved the decor, but it was VERY loud, unpleasantly so. We also had a reservation but still had to wait 15 min. Food: good. The fried injera chips were different and good. The guacamole was my favorite, which seems odd for an Ethiopian place. Out of the two platters, things seemed a little on the less spiced side- I like when Ethiopian food has a lot more flavor. The lentil dishes were best. Service: solid. Attentive and helpful.
SO good!! The rice bowl was kind of spicy but the mixture of everything was so yummy! I did food pick up but it was pretty fast and service was nice! It seems to be pretty busy most of the time and was super chic inside with bar seating and other small tables and more seating in the back.

This was my first time going to an Ethiopian restaurant. While visiting my son in NYC, we finally tried this. I must say I loved the flavor, presentation and concept of sharing. Be ready to use your hands to eat, and don't let this discourage you from trying it, it's worth it. You must try this! read more
My friend and I went to RAS at 11:30am on a Saturday. We made reservations, but they were not necessary for that time slot. However, if you do eat around more of the lunch rush, you may want to make a reservation. The interior is vibrant with beautiful murals adorning the walls and copious ceiling plants for greenery. It's great vibes all around! We ordered both platters to sample as many different dishes as we could. Each platter was $22, and I could not pick one over the other because they were both delicious! The only miss for both of us was the Key Sir with the beetroot. I wasn't the biggest fan of the beet flavor, but that's a preference issue, not a fault of the restaurant. Every curry was flavored well, the injera was delicious, and it an overall amazing tasting experience! Service was also welcoming and fantastic. Second time here and still really good! Last time we got the platters and we liked some stuff but not everything on them so this time we ordered individual entrees and apps. We got the azifa lentil dip: it taste like a mixture of a deconstructed flagellation and hummus. It has texture to it and spice, I really enjoyed it! Especially with the fried injera, yummm We also got the Dulet and Ras Kitfo: both were delicious!!! The one with the mushrooms was my favorite. It's minced mushroom with onions and peppers. It tastes like ground meat sort of but you can still taste mushrooms and it's delicious. The seitan one was good as well! read more

Easily some of the best Ethiopian food I've had a minute -- the vibes in here are so cool and it was bustling on a weekend evening. I recommend making a reservation, since it's a pretty small place. I don't usually explore this part of Brooklyn, but we stopped by for a pre-show meal since this was close to King's Theater. The waiters were really helpful in recommending how much food to get, and we really ordered the perfect amount. I am obsessed with literally every single thing we got -- the Sambusa was super unique and the Misir Wot was delicious! Highly recommend the platter and Mushroom Tibs, it's a great way to try a little bit of everything. Even my non-vegetarian friends left the meal super satisfied and they usually don't love vegan spots. I'll definitely be back! read more

Ras Plant Based is located on Franklin Ave in Brooklyn, is close to other eateries and hang-out spots, and is within walking distance from Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens & the Brooklyn Public Central Library. I have had the pleasure of visiting Ras Plant Based multiple times w/ my daughter as well as w/ friends, and the food is always delicious. Ras Plant Based is chic and has a down-to-earth atmosphere. Decor consists of gorgrous /vibrant/ colorful wall murals and beautiful lighting arrangements. There is a booth-type area where the dj has played Oldies But Goodies, R + B, Reggae, Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, etc. Good music is consistently playing whether the dj is there or not, and it has me swaying in my seat as I am rockin' to the beat - lol. Ras has lunch, brunch & dinner. Small Bites, Entrees, and their signature Piassa & Mercato Platters (one can order wither injera or brown rice w/ their platter) are on their dinner menu. The Sambusa (can order with mixed veggie and / or with lentil) on the Small Bites Menu taste great. The Mercato Platter is one that I have ordered often, and it includes the following: 1.) Yatakilt - Cabbage, carrot, onion, bell peppers. 2.) Gomen - Braised collards, sauteed onions. 3.) Missir - Slow-simmerred red lentil stew,berbere sauce 4.).Shiro - Creamy ground chickpeas, spice blend & 5.) Fasiola - String beans' carrots & carmelized onions. I usually have brown rice w/ my platter. The food is amazingly delicious! Beverages - Ethiopian Coffee, teas, cocktails, mocktails, sodas, etc are on the menu. Ambiance is very relaxed and cute. It is not a big place. Small tables. Busy the night when we were there. Service is good. We ran late to our reservation and they let us sit in anyway. Food: first few bites were surprisingly good. Every bite was very flavorful. But it kinda loses its charm on me after a few bites, probably it's not my type of food. I've always wanted to try Ethiopian food, and finally got to chance to here at Ras Plant Based. We started with the Crown Heights Queen which was light & refreshing. Both platters were vibrant, well-crafted, and pay homage to traditional Ethiopian dishes. The injera has a unique texture and slightly sour taste which I actually liked. It went well with all the dishes, particularly the ones simmered in various spices. Even if you're not an adventurous eater, I would suggest getting the injera (over rice) as it complements the flavor profiles of each dish well. All 10 dishes across both platters were mild, savory, and complex. They each offered a unique experience in every bite. Great try and I loved the colorful ambiance! read more
Love the vibe and energy of Ras. The staff's kindness reflects the ethos of a vegan restaurant. The murals on the red brick are amazing, marking this place as undeniably Brooklyn. Ethiopian food is inherently communal, breaking bread and eating with your hands over shared platters. The Mercato or Piassa provide a variety of options; the former comes with red lentil stew, my fav Ethiopian dish. Ras shines brightest on its entrees though. The Dulet, diced royal trumpet 'shrooms with onion and jalapeno, in particular, is so freakin' delicious. Also, check out the curated cocktails and mocktails and if you still have room, the raw and kosher desserts. Totally worth it. Ras has been on my to-try list for years, but I'm never in this area. Enter a Brooklyn Museum outing, and finally I have an excuse to drag people to consume plant-based Ethiopian. My Arada Bowl was scrumptious, with the Missir and Yatakilt being the best items. Traditional kitfo is my favorite Ethiopian meat dish (meat-fo? Haha), so I enjoyed trying the Ras Kitfo in the Bolé Bowl vs. the Jackfruit Kitfo in the Ras Breakfast. Spoiler alert: Both are delicious. And the Days in the East mocktail was coconut heaven. In fact, everything we got was packed with flavor and designed to satisfy every taste bud. This is where you take people who don't know how to handle vegetables, who think you need meat to flavor a dish, and who haven't touched a spice in their entire lives. Take them to Ras so their poor, deprived, bland AF palates can experience real cooking. read more

This spot is cool vibe in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. The food here is very good. Lots of natural vegan dishes... nothing processed. The servers are inviting and welcoming. The drinks here are good. If you just looking for a cool space to have a drink and conversation or to dine out for a date. This is definitely a go to. Solid ethiopian place for the neighborhood with amazing food and great vibes for a Friday night. I was able to easily make a reservation and didn't have to wait before getting seated. They have many dishes to try and if you are indecisive like I am, the Piassa and Mercato platters are a great option. Both of these options come with a variety of sides as well as injera. I love Ras! Ethiopian cuisine is always vegetarian friendly, and there are a decent number of good Ethiopian restaurants in NYC that serve the usual array of flavorful lentils, collards, cabbage, and ground chickpeas on injera. Ras stands out for exceptional vegetarian interpretations of the dishes that usually involve meat (like tibs), fun decor, and inventive cocktails. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly. Hands down one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn, certainly my #1 in Crown Heights! read more

This restaurant was recommended and requested by my daughter, who is a vegan. While I'm not a vegan, I would convert if all vegan food tasted this good. We arrived just as they were opening for lunch and we were greeted with open arms and offered to sit anywhere we wanted. Our server was TD and he was awesome. He gave us a rundown of the menu and what he recommended for us to order. The space is colorful and light with a great vibe. You feel like you're in another world, not in the the middle of Brooklyn. The music and the place gets you ready to enjoy a great fun meal. Ethiopian food is best enjoyed family style so we ordered a bunch of stuff and shared it all. Every dish was so tasty and full of rich flavors. The next time I visit my daughter, I'll be sure to stop by again. read more

There are plenty of great things to say about this place, but find it might be helpful to say from jump that the wildly high reviews may set folks up for disappointment. It's pretty good, but the hundred of 5 star reviews might actually do the restaurant a disservice with expectations. Perhaps it's a type of effect of it being vegan, where ratings are higher based on the lack of veg options elsewhere. Just want people to have normal expectations so they don't feel 'let down'. Anyways, it's all subjective. Food was classic Ethiopian, similar in quality and flavor to other spots. Some items hit or miss but overall food was good. Everything being vegan makes selecting from the menu simple and great. Liked the fresh juice options. Portions were on the smaller side but value is probably fair for being vegan. If I could give them 6/5, I would. I'm vegetarian, and I've eaten Ethiopian before but this is the best!! The menu was overwhelming in a way that makes me cry happy tears. Luckily the waitress was approachable and helpful in the way she explained how to order with fool-proof recommendations. Ended up trying the mercato platter. The braised collards were on the sour side, but they pack a punch for flavor for all the rest! Red lentil stew, chickpea, string beans, cabbage... my friend asked me which was my favorite and I couldn't come up with an answer because it was all delectable and savory in their own different ways! In terms of efficiency, I came here on a mid-afternoon with my foodie friend (who typically never returns to the same restaurant twice) and we were seated immediately. read more
My friend and I get dinner once a month, this month was my turn to choose and I selected Crown Heights. My usual game plan involves 2 or 3 savory restaurants and 1 or 2 dessert spots. After doing my research on Yelp, I knew I wanted to start our night at Ras Plant Based. We arrived a little after 6 on a Thursday and lucked out that a table was available, they were booked pretty solid. All of the staff were pleasant and our waiter was fantastic. He directed us towards his favorite dishes and they were perfect. We opened up with squash filled pastries. They were perfectly crispy and the dipping sauce had excellent zest. For an entree we went with the seitan on injera. The seitan had great texture in a wonderful sauce, certainly didn't miss meat. The injera itself was perfection, light and airy but substantial enough to wrap the seitan. By the end of the night, one of my regrets was that we didn't order more at Ras. Very cool art on the walls, nice lightning, an all around fun place to eat. read more

Finally checked this spot of my bucket list! Let's talk about food- I came with a friend and we split the Mercato. I believe this platter is supposed to be the 'spicer' of the two but I didn't really find this that spicy. I almost wish some of the options had a slight more kick. Each dish in the platter was full of flavor, favorites for me were definitely: YATAKILT (Cabbage, carrot, onion, bell pepper), SHIRO (Creamy ground chickpeas, intricate spice blend) (the most sauce/dip like), GOMEN (Braised collards, sauteed onions). We also opted to get RAS KITFO (Pea protein crumble, spice infused olive oil, mitmita), which was good, but I preferred the platter to this. For an app we tried the SAMBUSA, one veggies and one (i think was squash?). We loved both. I'm a sucker for something with a bit of crunch. Also, the dipping sauce for these was to die for. We saved this and ate it with our entree as well. The space itself is gorgeous and is a great vibe. The perfect spot to meet a view friends and chat over some delicious vegan food. Service is awesome and super friendly and helpful. I love that they made the experience inviting and were open to any questions we had about the menu. (Bati Ethiopian still holds my #1 Ethiopian spot, but this is definitely close second.) A must eat in BK and when trying Ethiopian food. 4.6/5 read more

Food is delicious but servings are small especially when delivered. So many fees. Thus this is a pricey excursion. But worth it. Service is warm & fast. The place is very beautiful. Customers seemed cool. I will return. read more
Ras Plant Based such a great place to enjoy amazing food with your favorite people! I literally have only great things to say about this restaurant, service a1, ambiance dope, food yummy af! It was a pretty chilly Saturday night & I won the tossup to select the spot for dinner I choose Ras, we make a reservation easily, arrive a tad early like 30 mins but they are able to accommodate us immediately yes! We are seated not far from the dj who is on point by the way. Our server is super chill wanted to know if we needed recommendations for cocktails or appetizers. I ordered the hibiscus chia tea for my drink yummy. We ordered appetizers and 2 different entrees to share. Everything tasted delicious, one thing to note a lot of the dishes are spicy so ensure you can handle the heat or ask to have less spice. The entire experience was on point, don't hesitate to stop in for great food in a dope atmosphere! Looking forward to trying their brunch. read more

So this was our first visit to RAS. After hearing so much about them from fellow plant based foodies. When you enter the doors it's as if you have entered a hidden paradise. The decor and the amazing painted murals on the interior walls are amazing. The rear seating area has a nice spacious layout for diners. After being seated our waitress arrived. Her customer service was not warm and welcoming. We almost made the decision to leave. Fortunately one of the owners was present and came over and greeted us. He had an awesome converssation with us and we decided to stay. The food was super tasty and arrived fresh and hot. In the end we are glad that we did not leave. If you have never dined at RAS plant based. It is worth the trip. I highly recomnend the lentil sambusa Injera ChipsSeitan TibsRed Lentil Stew. If you are dining with a large party reservations are best. read more
