My hairdresser recommended me to this woman for wax so I tried her out and boy wtf.... She was SO bossy, so demanding and just had a very unfriendly attitude. Anyway so I get there and I ask her about parking and she's just like UH yea?? Like being sarcastic so I'm like ooook? Cool so I'm supposed to get naked and pay u money now? Hahhaa then this happened. She said something along the lines of like stand over there and don't do this and just like overall super abrasive and rude in the way she was talking to me so I'm being sarcastic back like " yes mam' " lol and she immediately stopped and said NO I don't like that, don't call me mam or something. And I'm just like okay cool I guess I can't just walk out at this point even though it's super awkward because i wasn't trying to be weird or sexual or rude to her. I always say yes mam even or sir even though I'm not from the south because most people seemed to be charmed by it. Anyway she waxed me, we talked about my dogs and her dogs and it was just like super unpleasant and she just seemed like a b****. After the very uncomfortable wax she didn't even put soothing oil or anything after to clean the excess wax. I got home and the wax was stuck to my underwear and stuff. She traumatized me and I didn't get waxed for like 6 months after that. I recently got waxed at wax candy in Long Beach and had a MUCH nicer and a pleasant experience and boy did I miss it. Raqstar Wax is the only waxing salon open in Long Beach during this pandemic, which truly is a shame. I'm not a new-comer when it comes to waxing and this is the first time, I have ever dreaded getting a wax. The first visit, I just felt so uncomfortable and I thought maybe, it's me or maybe Raquel was having an off day. She made me feel awful for having my hair grow out so much (again, we were in a pandemic and my normal waxing lady wasn't open- what were we supposed to do?) Once, she pulled the first strip, she noticed how thick my hair follicles were and mentioned how she wanted to post that because she's never seen hair follicles that large in a while. And that just was unsettling. I also didn't truly appreciate how much of a salesperson she is. I much prefer she educate on "exfoliation and hydration" rather than try and sell me the products she's affiliated with. To each their own. I just didn't find it quite professional. Maybe consider building a relationship first and then try pitching your products. The waxing itself wasn't painful and truly such a breeze, but when I came home, I did realize that she did miss a few hairs. Again, maybe it was an off day. On the second visit, I wanted to give Raquel and her practice another chance. But again, she wasn't in the best mood, and again and I was very excited to have my memory with her etched out of my thoughts. I have gotten waxed by at least 7 people (I moved a lot) and no one has ever made me feel this uncomfortable. I just don't really understand, so much so that she was surprised that I booked another appointment with her. I thanked her for her services and she didn't even have the decency to say you're welcome. Raquel offers services to the public and is an industry professional. I just wished she'd act more like one rather than make a customer feel so uncomfortable. And again, I went home, and I still found a few strays (this is a matter of minutes). This was my first time being waxed and I was sooo nervous. I was nervous about everything, being naked in front of a stranger and just the whole process in general. I walked into Raquel's studio and immediately I felt welcomed. (Parking is a little rough, so make sure to get there a couple minutes before your appointment to find parking). She started with introducing herself and I didn't realize that the wax was on my already. She started with going over what I should expect, hair cycles, aftercare and etc. The whole process was under 20 minutes MAX. Not once did I feel uncomfortable with her, she made it such a fast process and was able to educate me about my kitty. AND EVERYONE IS RIGHT IT IS PAINLESS!! She does have some products that she sells there, she explained each and every one to me since I was a first timer.
