Had dinner last week, empty restaurant, plenty of employees though all clustered in conversation. When I recieved the wrong drink, a very pushy old man (I presume the manager?) came over to talk to us and proceeded to annoy us for the next 15 mins trying to make small talk to get us off the subject ofy drink. Place felt extremely unproffessional. how can a restaurant make a mistake with no customers in the place and all visible employees doing nothing? Shame shame. I'm getting a bit frustrated because the last 2 times I have gone to Range Café for drinks and dinner (both happen to be Friday evenings) They have been closed for private parties. They are not able or willing to accommodate the public during these private events and these closures are becoming more frequent. This is unfortunate because we had 3 carloads of people meeting there and were turned away! They need to come up with a plan to accommodate the public by serving outside and or in the bar. Guess what...I am a regular patron who now feels like a second class citizen...and I will find a new place to go! read more

We went last week and were very disappointed with the wait staff. Very poorly trained waiters that just don't understand what they are doing. There did not seem to be any manager attending the restaurant, which might explain why the waiters were just hanging out. There is no interplay with the waiters when ordering because they don't know how to explain food or beverages. The timing is also very off-putting. We sat in a nearly empty restaurant with three waiters. Still, we did not get attended to for about five to ten minutes - even though the waiters were standing in a cluster, immersed in discussion. The food was served cold, probably because it was waiting to get picked up. The service was not acceptable - in so many ways. We have been to the restaurant on many occasions and will still go back since they are the only game in that part of town. Once Andy's new restaurant opens up in Loch Lomond Marina, I predict that much of Range's local business will disappear. I'm rooting for a turnaround, but not hopeful based on the fact that service has gotten worse and not better, over the past year. This review is meant to be constructive criticism. I should note that all of the service staff is generally friendly and want helpful, they simply are not properly trained and don't get it. The food was okay for some of us, but the veal parmigiana was horrible. It was soggy, not crispy, tasteless and covered with a strange cheese that is clearly not mozzarella. The service was mostly good. When we were the only people in the restaurant they were attentive and filled our beverages. Unfortunately, once it got to be about 25% full it was hard to flag anyone down because we see the staff very much. The calamari wasn't really calamari, it was a salad with a little bit of calamari on top. It was supposed to be on an heirloom tomato panzanilla salad (I saw no tomatoes). The burger was a definite disappointment. I wondered why they would ask me how I would want it cooked (medium) if the burger was going to clearly come out carbonized. I believe that there was a hole in the center of my burger (supposed to be the thickest part). Odd the menu said side of onion-bacon jam. No where to be seen. Maybe they are better normally, but I don't think I will come back to find out. So service earned the two stars because the quality of the food didn't earn them any. read more

We decided after dining at the Range more than a year ago and being very dissatisfied to give it another try. We had heard there was a new Manager that was changing things. Well sadly there is no change. In fact in many respects it's worse. The service is deplorable and chaotic, the staff is unprofessional and appears not to have been trained in the basics of service. I observed many orders were delivered to the wrong table- is there not a system of table numbers?Two in our party had to send back their food because it was cold. The place needs a thorough and professional overhaul from its management, staff, systems, to its menu offerings. Great lunch!!! Came here with my family for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food tasted. I ordered the sliders. All I can say is...JUICY! These little meaty morsels were quite literally dripping with juice with every bite. The point Reyes blue cheese was out of this world fresh and delicious. I also tasted the quesadilla which was very flavorful. My only complaint was the service. My waiter actually got defensive and argued with me. He was kind of friendly but kind of not. He never smiled... Not once. He was just sort of disconnected. He tried to be helpful but also seemed annoyed at the same time. I would definitely go back again and can't wait till I do! Well I actually got to try this new restaurant on Sunday January 8th for an early dinner. We loved the decor, menu and had a fun night celebrating an early birthday. The next day my friend's did Lunch outside and it was so lovely with the sun shining and nice food and service. We especially like John the food and beverage manager. Such a great find! I absolutely love the location of Range Cafe- surrounded by trees (and the greens, of course!), it is the perfect place for a quiet and relaxing meal. I was so surprised with the Range Cafe and their incredible dishes. I had the Chinese chicken salad and was so surprised with its fresh ingredients and big portions. They also offer traditional golf club choices, like hamburgers and sandwiches. Plus, their desserts are incredible, especially the donuts (I will definitely be returning for breakfast in the near-future!). read more

Best happy hour ever! Great prices, fun bartenders, and a really friendly and convivial crowd. One of the best parts about living in P Gap is coming here during the week for a cheap happy hour dinner and some drinks. If you are new to the neighborhood it's a fun way to meet your neighbors. We went as a party of 5 for dinner the other night. There were only a handful of tables occupied. The service was attentive. Our server seemed a little green, but he was trying to make our experience a good one, and he did a good job. The food was okay, my husband had the mahi tacos and left feeling like he could have eaten more. I had the cobb salad, which was good. Our experience was thrown off by the singer in the bar who's amp was turned way up. We could barely hear each other at the table. It was just way too loud. We used to have lunch here after a round of golf and then the food got so bad we started going to other local restaurants after our game. Today we were pressed for time and decided to give them another try. I'm glad we did. The food was great as was the service. Many good choices on the menu with reasonable prices. Quite a hidden gem. I met a colleague over there for lunch yesterday. There is a warm fireplace and a very nice bar area. My Chinese Chicken Salad was excellent and my friend's burger looked good. Thought we'd give this a try and went for a late lunch. Pretty empty when we went in so no problem getting seated. A table of women playing cards, and one other table which already had their food. Our waitress came over, very pleasant, took our drink order and said she'd be right back to take our food order. Wait, wait, wait, wait - 25 minutes, still no drinks, and when we finally saw her and caught her eye, she raised her hand and said be right with you, then disappeared into the kitchen. Waited, and when that didn't happen we walked out. Ironically on our way to the door, two other employees told us to have a good day!!!! Stopped in for a quick happy hour meal last week. The setting is so lovely with the golf course, and the bar has a nice "feel." Service was quick and friendly. I got delicious buffalo chicken wings and the potato chip nachos. The menu is small, and they don't have deals on cocktails (only beer and wine), so that is a bit of a disappointment. For those reasons this would not be my first choice for happy hour, but if I was in the neighborhood, or hitting a bucket of golf balls, it's a nice place to try. read more

My husband and I go to the Range Cafe at beautiful Peacock Gap Golf Course in San Rafael religiously every Friday evening for their fabulous $1 oysters and Happy Hour drinks! We have been going for about 3 years now, and we have to say that ever since Todd took over as Manager of the cafe, everything was stepped up a notch. The service, the food, the music above all. The oysters are just they type I love - small, delicate and creamy. The mushroom ravioli is mouth watering. My husband loves the Chico tacos with onion jam. They are really delicioso! They have $1 and $2 oysters every Friday & Saturday and I think that has been a great draw for the restaurant, as oyster lovers love eating as many oysters as possible without the $3 to $5 price tag that you get everywhere else! They have nice music on Fridays and Saturdays. Love the Chime Travelers especially. We love the servers - Omar, Alejandro, Eden, Michaela, and Cesar! read more

What a difference! After playing golf at the golf course, we decided to eat or should I say dine in the restaurant. The restaurant is filled with excitement and top notch service. We started out with oysters that were beyond good. We then moved on to the brick chicken, ribs and cioppino. All the entrees were tasteful and well prepared. The chef even stopped by our table. TERRIBLE SERVICE! Today I ordered a hot dog and fries while at Hole #8, as the sign suggested. When I reached the clubhouse, I waited a minimum of 10 minutes to be acknowledged at the bar, which was not very crowded. There was only one woman there, who saw me but ignored me as she was intent on stapling receipts. So I went to the pro shop, thinking that maybe take-out orders end up there, but was told to go back to the bar. A boy finally acknowledged me, and went to retrieve my hot dog in a box. Then at Hole #10 I opened the box to find a completely dry hot dog, without the caramelized onion relish that was on the menu. In addition, there were no ketchup or mustard packets. And the fries were very cold. I then called the cafe and was told it was my fault for not getting someone to help me, and for not looking for the condiments earlier! read more

The Range Cafe has proven to be a most welcome addition to the Peacock Gap neighborhood. My wife and I often go over for a margarita or glass of Pinot Noir with appetizers and meet with neighbors and friends before enjoying dinner. The Range reminds us of the pubs so important to the neighborhood social scene in England and Scotland. Manager Todd was away for several weeks but Samantha filled in admirably and saw to it that consistency was maintained. It's fun to go where everybody knows your name. read more

Just had food delivered from here, and it was inedible. The beetroot salad was supposed to have feta cheese and walnuts, but came with goat cheese (which I can't stand!) and no walnuts. The lettuce had no life. What was supposed to be champagne vinaigrette tasted like pure oil - and not good oil at that. The roasted butternut soup had absolutely no depth of flavor. The spices were right in your face and were cloying after the first taste. It tasted more of oil than butternut. The French fries were ok, but the accompanying aioli was disgusting. The food delivery service (Dine in Marin) offered a full refund, and are supposed to come pick it up. They haven't yet - delivery guy probably doesn't want it in his car again. read more

We just moved to Peacock Gap and decided to hit a bucket of balls and eat at the RangeCafe. We were pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was and how good the food was! The only real problem is the service but the servers and staff did everything they could to make our experience enjoyable and comped us for a long wait time. I just love this café. I've eaten here many times since it's opened. My husband claims that they have the best burgers in Marin. My son loves the chicken club sandwich. I like the Chico tacos and the Cobb salad. The Cobb is always fresh and delicious. I'm so happy to have this restaurant in our neighborhood. The décor and setting are beautiful. It's a hidden gem. It's not a "fast food" place. It's a place to unwind, spend time with family and friends and enjoy the beauty of the golf course and the mountains. read more

Delicious food. We sat outside on the patio with our dog under an umbrella. I enjoyed a watermelon margarita and the yummiest fish tacos. Like the BEST fish tacos. My man liked his Cobb salad. Angel and Miguel provided great service. Very attentive and kind, with great senses of humor. I wish they had waited to bring out the entrees until after we had finished our appetizer (ceviche), but that's a minor detail. We recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back! read more

Like others we have been waiting for something to emerge at the course that was family friendly and relaxing. The Range Cafe is a great addition. We have come several times with neighbors and our children. I'll start with the atmosphere: Very nice and clean. Inviting inside bar area. The restaurant area is just fine, nothing fancy. The outside patio with a temperamental fireplace is probably the biggest draw. There are a handful of heat lamps and a decent amount of tables. On most warm afternoons (especially Fridays), half of Peacock & Glenwood families roll into the Range. Unfortunately I dont think the Club was properly prepared for the chaos that occurs with the number of children running along the walls, rolling down the hills with new landscaping, climbing on newly planted trees, jumping into golf carts armed with keys and basically causing traffic jams and potential accidents for themselves and golfers by running through the cart path. I foresee some serious safety issues that the Club may need to address. I.e. Cart Keys should be turned into the Pro Shop/Bar upon parking. Perhaps some "stop and look both way" signs between the patio area and cart path etc.... In theory, It's great for parents to get there and let the kids run loose (mine included), but it is a golf club and needs to be considered by parents as well. Food: The Food is great. I'd give the review 4 stars on the food alone because it is good, and I think that has a lot to do with bringing people back as often as they do. The Fish Tacos are fresh and fab! The Sliders with mushrooms and 3 cheeses are better than any burger, the Chicos Tacos with Chicken are Yum Yum and the Kettle Chips with dips are a MUST HAVE starter! They have great options for the kids such as Hot Dog Sliders, Grilled Cheese and of course the Mac and Cheese that's great for adults as well! Drink selection is good - everything from Wine/Beer to Cosmos. Breakfast is apparently also very good. Service: This is where things go south. As friendly as the staff is, the poor service is a serious drawback and constant to an otherwise great experience. -The service is slow - Lack of staff & Organization -one bartender and one server for patio on a Friday isn't efficient. People were going up to the bar to order b/c the server was overwhelmed or MIA on the patio. Then unsure whether they needed to go back to the bar to get their food or hope that it made its way out to the patio. -On one occasion we were at the Range for dinner with another family and had dinner. The following day I came in with a friend for wine and the bartender recognized me from the prior night. I thought that was great, until he then told me we ran out on our bill. Shocked and offended I said we certainly had not and in fact I had the receipt in my wallet. He said, No you ordered a round of Blue Moons on the patio and didn't pay. I had to explain that we ate inside, didn't order ANY Blue Moon or beer for that matter and we did in fact pay. Regardless of specific experiences, the service needs a facelift. Its no secret...patrons are openly talking about it. Overall the Range Cafe is like Groundhogs Day... Each attempt proves to be a good neighborhood meet-up joint, kid chaos, good food and drink and less than average service. read more

We had dinner at the Range Cafe in June after a late-afternoon round of golf. Warmly greeted. Nice table. GREAT service staff - Carlos was our buddy by the end of the meal. I had the pork chop - it was great - and my husband, who is a tough customer, loved the ribs. The best experience though was the dessert. We had the donut holes and they were amazing, even better than the El Paseo donut holes. The chef de cuisine came out and explained the family recipe that these came from - the guy could've been on the Food Network - he even had a cooking tip. Really an excellent dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and look forward to coming back with our kids. read more

We live in peacock gap and love supporting the Range! We always make excuses for bad service, dirty tables and unprofessional staff every time we go because we WANT a neighborhood spot to go to and support. I get it there is an "after golf rush" but garbage on the floor, filthy tables and disgusting bathrooms is unacceptable and just plain lazy on the staffs part!! Please make an effort! I would love to invite friends out from other towns because it's a great spot and really good food but everything else needs MAJOR WORK!! There was literally garbage on the patio around our table tonight and food ALL over our table from the people before us! read more

Best fresh churros I've ever had in my life. I regularly come back just for these with my son, and enjoy the idyllic Marin sunset views as the golf winds down. Food is amazingly fresh. We have really been pulling for the range cafe, as it is moments from our home, but alas I have to say that it is a lost cause. We were able to look past previous visits where food was under cooked and the dishes were dirty, but the most recent visit was the end. We were there with friends with older kids. The kids went outside as they usually do and were sent inside by a 'manager' and told that kids were not allowed unaccompanied by a parent. No problem, I went outside with them, then the 'manager' came out and said that was just an excuse and that they just didn't want our kids outside. I was shocked but dinner was served so we sat for a sub par meal. As we were leaving the 'manager' stepped in front of me and said to another table a bit too loudly, that she apologized for the unrulily kids. I asked if she was talking about my kids and she affirmed my concerns. After that rude acusation, I let her know that she did not need to worry we would not be back. She actually agreed and said that would be best! Stunned I asked if she wanted ANY kids in the restaurant and she just smiled and turn back to the other table to say some people just don't know how to control their kids! My two little girls have been there countless times with no issue. I think this 'manager' just does not realize that she is in a neighborhood that has a heavy stroller count! We are the target audience. This place is not welcoming to families with children and I would STRONGLY recommend voting with you pocketbook like my family has. Just say no to the range cafe. read more

Judging by the star ratings, the regular menu is working well. The Mother's Day Brunch that we experienced appears to be an exception. I can only give it one star, based on food and beverage quality and appearance as well as service. Pretty pricey for what one received. read more

Our Dad is a French Toast freak & couldn't get enough when he ordered their Supreme version. Warm & friendly service to top it off makes this our new go to. What a find. read more
