I used to order here often 5 years ago, and the last time I ordered (May 2018) the food was still decent. I even catered my housewarming party from here in July 2014. Clearly there has either been a management change or their food quality has gone down. I ordered two naans (onion and Garlic), veg pakodas, Tava Chicken, Malai Kofta, and Saag Paneer. Somehow they miraculously made all these items in 15 minutes, which made me suspicious that it was made fresh...especially for Friday night dinner. The basmati rice tasted old, could be a day old or from the buffet earlier in the day. Heavy on the cumin. The Tava Chicken tasted dry and lacked flavor. The Saag Paneer was chunky consistency because the gravy was not pureed and had an imbalance of flavor (heavy on Garam Masala). The Malai Kofta came with only 3 pieces and the gravy was also heavy with cumin. All the curries tasted reheated and old. The only items that were was the pakodas and garlic naan. Onion naan was subpar. I am extremely disappointed because these reviews inflate the quality of food. Indian food is expensive as it is with small portion sizes. At least the quality should be there. I've been to Rang a total of 3 times so far and have liked it every time - the 3rd time which was last Saturday was the most memorable. The staff were so friendly as always and the food as good as ever. This was the first time I had brought my baby with me (I was pregnant the time before hehe) and everyone was SO nice to him. They surprised him with a kiddie-sized mango lassi which was so sweet of them - no pun intended. We had our usual orders of Poori bread, chicken curry, chicken vindaloo, & chicken tikka masala. They also gave us a chicken w/ veggies dish on the house and later on, also rice pudding with crushed pistachios to clear our palette. Everyone had a great time and we left happy and full. I totally recommend Rang to anyone in the area. They are very welcoming and friendly, their service is quick and attentive, and their food is delicious. It's a must-try! read more

Really good Indian food. Chicken Tikka Masala is my standby, and it was excellent. The Chicken Korma was also good, and has become a new favorite of mine. The Chicken Do-Piazza was bit mild for my taste, but I stirred in some Onion Chutney, and that did the trick. Every once and a while, they'll forget the chutney, but last time I ordered, they gave me extra chutney AND tamarind sauce. I'm a happy customer! They're on Grub Hub, and will deliver to me (I live one town over). Delivery is always faster than their estimate. I always get the same delivery boy too. Nice Guy. A perfectly delightful evening in the suburbs started off with dinner at Rang, which I'd read/heard could accommodate my celiac restrictions. I'm happy to report the rumors are true. I called to make a reservation and the gentleman on the phone said, "Gluten?? Don't worry about GLUTEN!" That was a little reassuring, but since everyone and their mom thinks they know what gluten-free means these days, I'm always wary. For some reason we had several servers this evening, but all of them were able to tell me which dishes (probably 80% of them) were gluten-free. I ordered the tava chicken appetizer and vegetable curry, while my fellow gluten-free dinner ordered the saag paneer. I don't claim to be an Indian food snob, so take it for what it's worth when I say all of these were delicious and sufficiently spicy as ordered (medium). Our other friend, arguably one of the pickiest eaters in the world, eased into the realm of Indian food with the chicken tikka masala. And liked it. Overall, I would absolutely come here again. I hate giving low reviews but after giving this place 3 chances, I have to do it. Self-admittedly, I am an indian food snob. My boyfriend is Indian and I've had the best indian cooking around - his moms! We've also tried many indian restaurants around the Boston area. We were thrilled when one open up right in our own town - so convenient! However, the quality of food is not good compared to others we've tried. We'd rather go for quality than convenience. It's been a while since I've written a review of this place, and after visiting today for lunch, I definitely felt the need to update and raise it from 4 to 5 stars. The wait staff is always very attentive, kitchen very quick at preparing meals, and the price can not be beat. I agree with Anastasia's review, so I won't duplicate but I will offer a couple of pearls: - There's a chicken kava appetizer that's absolutely amazing (and cheap). - Though they don't publicize delivery, they sometimes will deliver if you order enough and they have an extra person there. Very good Indian food and nice atmosphere. I got the Lamb Tiki Masala and my wife got the Chicken Tiki Masala. Both had great flavor. The portions weren't standard; not too small but not huge either. We also ordered the small bread basket, which came with 2 types of naan (plain and garlic) and poori. It was more than we expected and we ended up taking some home. For desert, we got Gulab Jamun, which was absolutely delicious. The service was good. Nothing exceptional, but no complaints. Husband and I have been there for both lunch and dinner, probably about 5 or 6 times total, and every single time we've had great food and great service. The food is consistent. The lamb vindaloo is spicy, as it should be. They have excellent shrimp dishes, which i don't see too often at Indian places. They have a full bar/beer/wine. Nice, clean, and contemporary interior. Our server from the first time we went there, has been there every single time since. We live in the area, so sometimes he sees us drive by or visiting other businesses, and he waves. (kind of creepy at first, but we got over that. :) he's just really nice and he's always there.) The lunch menu is varied and affordable, about $7-8 for entree, papadum, naan, and rice. I thought the size of the lunch portion was appropriate, filled up one of those metal things they serve it in. Small enough where I don't have to think about not finishing and taking leftovers home, but large enough to hold me over till dinner. Service specifics....everyone there we've encountered was really nice. Food comes out quickly, never waiting on the food/refills. If you're in a rush for the check, make that known to your server. I thought it was pretty relaxed during our dinners, understandably, but then we went for lunch, and it was the same.....we had to make the subtle combo of eye contact-head nod-hand motions for the check so we could make it back to the office in time for those oh-so-important meetings. Parking is easy in the lot across Central St. Best seats in the house are the ones in the windows! Another cool thing, you can order take out from their website! This wonderful little restaurant is a staple for us. We eat here often, both dining in and take out. It's consistently excellent quality with traditional Indian dishes. The staff makes the experience that much better. One evening last year my wife and I were ordering drinks and they ran out of a particular brand of beer on the menu. The mango lassi is a great addition to some of the spicier dishes that need a little dairy to keep the flames down. My other half and I have been going back and forth from Boston to Manchester for the last two months. On one of these trips we were craving Indian food and we'd already left Boston and we were too hungry to wait to get back to NH to eat at our usual place. I found this place googling "Indian Restaurants" on my phone. We figured "hey, what the hell? We'll try it." What makes this place interesting is that they have dishes you won't find in most Indian restaurants that span the massive subcontinent. One dish that was a featured special was the Chinese-influenced Rang 909 (409? 303? It was some number and I'm bad with numbers) -- don't even bother asking for mild, they can't do it. It's like General Gau and Vindaloo's hot love child. Tasty, but a bit too much for some with a more, how shall we say it? Fragile palate. My old standby, Chicken Tikka Masala isn't great here. It's too tomatoey, not creamy enough, the chicken was dry and overcooked and they overdo it with the garam masala. The mixed bread basket is a great idea -- after all, you can't always decide what bread you want. I was hopeful that this bread would embody everything that makes naan great: that spongy texture with a nice earthy, nutty buttery taste. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed -- the naan tasted as flat as it looked and the texture was more rubbery than spongy. The service was wonderfully attentive, my water glass was never empty -- which was fortunate, because I actually like my food hot. The decor in this place, something I don't always notice, is attractive and soothing. It actually reminded me of the many bistros in the South End of Boston, complete with a curtain to catch the draft. One thing I didn't like was the Kenny G Christmas album playing over the speakers. While I'd really would prefer to hear some Hindi instrumentals to add to the ambiance -- my main issue is that Christmas had came and went two months ago. I guess the staff just tunes it out. While it can't hold a candle to a lot of restaurants in Boston who serve the standard dishes, its menu is unique enough to make it worth a try if you're in the area. read more

A nice little Indian restaurant with a large variety of dishes and a very friendly staff. We eat here on occasion but more often, we order take-away. The decor is nice but it is often quite empty, which takes away from the ambience. Prices are comparable to what you might find in Boston/Cambridge, and I think the food measures up pretty well. The chicken tandoori is excellent, and the vindaloo sauce is hot, hot, hot! Just waiting for them to start delivery service!! 11/13/07 I am back to say that as others have noted, this place now fills up on weekend nights. I mean it is PACKED to it's 50-person capacity. They do their best to be accommodating while you wait; just ask for a beer or mango lassi to pass the time. Also, regarding lunch-- the buffet is a great deal on prices. I'll admit I was skeptical about Rang when it first opened. Stoneham's never been a culinary destination (unless you want pizza, subs, or Dunkin Donuts), and its idea of ethnic cuisine is Chinese takeout. My first takeout order removed any doubts. The lamb kebabs were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Subsequent chicken and vegetable dishes have been delicious. I have yet to order anything that hasn't wowed me. When friends come to town, Rang is the usual dinner stop--they, in turn have made trips back to Stoneham just for dinner there. Now that most restaurants try to cram as many TVs onto their walls as possible, Rang offers a quiet, comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere where friends or couples can go to enjoy good food and conversation. The place is not very pretty, or romantic in any way, but the food (the most important part) is very good with the perfect balance between flavor, texture and "spicyness" Portions are generous. We had Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Saag, rice and naan. Everything was delicious and well prepared. Our server was nice, but extremely shy/quiet, sometimes difficult to hear. If I'd have it my way, I'd be there eating right now! Defines what delicious authentic India food should taste like. The Naan, the meat, the curry, all tantalizing and the atmosphere was perfect for my family. The service was excellent and the attention to our dining experience (making sure we were comfortable, food delivered within expected times, suggestions for wines with certain foods, etc.) was second to none. We even had friends of ours who happened to be there dinning as well tell us of how often they go to there and make it a crucial component of their date night. Suffice to say hey live in Middleton and drive all the way to Stoneham for the experience. Right? ________ Ahh, I was really looking forward to what I ordered but eek, hold up. The spice was right on but the dish, not so right. I get that's how they do it there but it wasn't for me. I stick with the same Indian dish at every place and it's been pretty steadily the same consistency at the few places I've been, here though it was a chunk like consistency, not the smooth kind like I've had at others. On location, I am really glad they opened in Stoneham. They have been in town for a while but I have only went recently. It's great for Stoneham to be expanding their ethnic food offerings. There is plenty of parking to be found in the area but no specific lot for Rang, just around the area of it's location; right in the center. The ambiance is fantastic-warm, inviting-and the service from Frank, JP and Hari was attentive without hovering. Friendly and professional, Frank offered accurate menu advice. We had spicy chili chicken, saag paneer, curry and an assorted appetizer platter. All the condiments were flavorful and the dishes well seasoned. My coworker and I began working at a 6 month internship in Stoneham in January, and we found Rang's pretty quickly. Also pretty quickly, we decided we would get Rang's every Friday to treat ourselves after another week as office lackeys. The food they offer is good, prepared fresh with quality ingredients and all that....you won't regret eating here. What sets them apart is the friendly waitstaff. It only took two visits before they began to recognise us, make small chat, ask why we might have taken a week off from eating there. Once in a while they even treated us to freebies! Since I only go for lunch, I always opt for a luncheon special which is about $7-8 PLUS rice and naan. This is a great deal. I'm especially enamored with the kabuli chana, but the chicken korma is a delicious, creamy alternative. Usually I go for some poori as well. I did try a few appetizers-- the veg pakora and veg samosas were great, but the paneer pakora was pretty bland and I wouldn't order it again. Rang's is one of the few things I will miss about Stoneham. Chances are that I won't make the trip out again just for the lunch here, but perhaps I will leave a note of recommendation for the next intern. read more

I'd never had Indian food before going here with a friend of mine. She suggested the garlic naan, which I absolutely loved. I ordered Shrimp Tandoori, which I enjoyed a lot, and tried a bit of her Baingan Bharta, which was also delicious. Our server was very attentive. The restaurant is a little small, but we had no trouble being seated on a Friday night around 6:30pm. There's a parking lot right next door and it's super easy to get to...right off of Route 28 in Stoneham. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who has never had Indian food, because although I can't compare it to any other Indian restaurant, it made for a really great dinner for me. read more

Excellent service and delicious food! I got a Groupon for this place and went there with my parents for dinner. When we arrived, we saw that the place looked packed and had a line. We were about to leave when a man from the restaurant (maybe an owner, manager, or a really great waiter?) saw us and stepped outside to tell us it'd be only a 5 or 6 minute wait. It ended up being more like 10 or 15 minutes, but that wasn't a big deal. He surprised us with an on-the-house order of Cheese Pakora (yum!) for an appetizer. He had a warm sense of humor, too. Each of our dishes tasted great, and had very distinct flavors and textures from one another. We had Fish Tandoori, Chicken Chili Masala, and Kabuli Chana (chickpeas) for our entrees, along with the small bread basket (naan, garlic naan, and poori) and raita (mild yogurt sauce). We almost ended up eating somewhere else tonight, but I'm glad we didn't! I'll be keeping Rang Indian Bistro in mind the next time I want to eat Indian food. read more

I ate there for the first time today, invited out by a colleague, and it was so-so. The lunch special prices are very affordable, and come with papadum, a small order of naan, and rice. Even considering it was a lunch special, the portions really did seam on the small side: I had two, maybe three small pieces of chicken in my vindaloo, and chunks of potato masquerading as chicken, swimming in a whole lot of spicy sauce. I loved the spice of the sauce, but the flavor didn't taste like much, and the chicken was a bit dry. The naan seamed like the Indian equivalent of the prefab pizza crusts used in college dining halls, and struck me as chintzy. I don't think I'd choose to go there again myself. I certainly would *not* pay those dinner prices. For the same money or less, I can go to Punjabi Dhaba near my apartment, or even Ambassador in Woburn. read more

Rang popped up on foodler and we decided to try it on a lazy night when no one wanted to do any cooking. And I sure am glad we did. The food was simply fabulous - very well spiced, aromatic and flavorful. The vindaloo was very good as was the saag. Everything was fresh and delicious and far better than other Indian places in the area. He even joked with us and gave us a free appetizer (which was delicious, and a great start to our meal)! Delicious food - we ordered a variety of dishes, from an eggplant dish, chickpea dish, chicken, lentils and even a cheese dish and of course a big basket of naan, complete with wheat, garlic, original and spinach(?) naan. Not Indian food connoisseurs by any means. However the food is absolutely delicious, full of flavor and just enough spice. Have been looking for a half decent Indian food restaurant since moving here from Arizona and found a golden gem by mistake. Tried many places, but wanted Indian for my birthday dinner so decided to try again and I was so happy I did. The food is amazing and the dessert given on the house was perfect for a ending. Just one thing I regret......was getting it to go and not dining at the restaurant. Will definitely remedy that mistake the next time. Look forward to returning soon!!!! read more

I also waffled between giving three stars and four stars, but have had nothing but great service even (especially?) when part of my order was incorrect, so four stars it is. I moved to the 'burbs at the end of last summer, and imagine my chagrin when I discovered my new town has *gasp* no Indian restaurant! Rang Indian Bistro, next town over, to the rescue. The Kashmir naan (you may know it as Peshwari naan) is a touch on the sweet side for my taste, but the chicken korma and saag paneer (my go-to dishes) are good. My husband enjoys the tandoori chicken. I would say the food is on the mild side, but when I want things spicy, I really want them spicy. On the whole? Good food, friendly service, all the usuals on the menu. And the delivery never takes as long as the Foodler estimate says it will. It's not the best Indian food I've had in Boston, but I'm quite happy with this place. I'll definitely keep eating here. read more
