We first started seeing him…read morewhen we moved to Austin in 2003, and even though we now live on the other side of Austin, we continue to use this practice and Dr. Cox. We have never had such an attentive, thorough, and personable family physician, and we can't imagine going anywhere else. Dr. Cox's staff is always able to work us in for a same day appointment, generally with him, but if not, with another doctor or nurse practitioner. The office's nurses are also to be commended. They are wonderfully friendly and nice, and there is very little staff turnover, which is so helpful and reassuring. We have found Dr. Cox to be intelligent, thoughtful, caring and attentive. He is very open and flexible in his treatment approaches and well-informed about new and emerging treatments. No matter what may be wrong or what sort of treatment you prefer (natural, homeopathic, etc.), you won't feel awkward at all; and you will find Dr. Cox to be very knowledgable about a variety of treatment options. Never have we found a primary care physician so willing to listen to us and to involve us in the process of making choices about our healthcare. Although we had always used a pediatrician for our son, this practice and Drs. Cox and Stiegler both came highly recommended to us, and so we thought we would try it. Our son trusts Dr. Cox completely and feels very safe in his office, and we've been delighted at the advantages that come from all seeing the same physician. He knows our family histories well, and he's always well informed about what is going on in our lives -- being sure to check in on all of us whenever anyone visits. And in our time with Dr. Cox, we have seen that he and his office staff work equally well with children, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. All in all, I know Dr. Cox and South Oaks Family Medicine care about our family, and I wouldn't be happy entrusting our health to anyone else.

After filling out paperwork for 10 minutes he cancelled my appointment because I was late. I guess his time is more important than mine since I've waited more than 15 minutes for him in the past. 2) He cancelled a refill of medication I desperately needed without telling me because a computer database showed that I picked it up. I hadn't. When I suggested that he could have asked me if I had picked it up (and then confirmed it with the pharmacy), he offered no apology. He said it was the pharmacy's fault, not his. He also insisted I call him "doctor" after I addressed him by his first name as if he's above me.

Please avoid Dr. Nathan Pekar if you have any interest in living a quality life. He has been among…read morethe worst doctor's that I have ever had the misfortune to have dealt with for the following reasons: - Rushes the appointment - General disinterest - Does NOT fill your prescriptions In my initial appointment with him, he attempt to make an effort at listening to me however the entire appointment felt extremely rushed and he made nearly every attempt to end it within 10-15 minutes. Following this, it was nearly impossible to get a prescription filled by him to the point that in the last two months, my prescriptions were filled by other doctor's (despite significant efforts including calls, online messages in the portal, and online messages on the Victory Medical Klarna messenger ranging from 10 days up to day of). The staff was also deeply unhelpful, letting me know that in order to get my prescription refilled, I should use the online portal, but if I sent in my prescription request earlier than 5 business days, then it would be ignored. If I sent in later than 5 business days, it was also likely to be ignored. And when I did send it in 5 business days, it was still ignored. I have left several online messages, following up each day, in an attempt to just get a response, and in the past few months I have received none. And god forbid you have multiple prescriptions, because Dr. Pekar will maybe fill one prescription and completely ignore the others. They also look to charge your insurance as much as possible. By state law, practices can but are not required to drug test you for controlled prescriptions. Most doctors range somewhere between once to twice a year. Dr. Pekar will force you into doing a drug test EVERY month. So, not only is he an uncaring and lazy doctor, he also wants to take as much money from you and your insurance by pushing needless tests on you as often as possible. In sum, please do NOT see Dr. Pekar if you want quality care.
