The first time i went there i hoping for a decent Mexican food only to find it was dirty, the tables had a weird film on them, and the staff was slow and didn't pay attention either, gossiping to one another. The day me and my family went there they all seemed to be gossiping about one person, one of the hostesses Meghan. Both our server and our busser both seemed to confront her, the busser who looked about thirty made several advances on her while she seemed to be high school aged, and then once she seemed to put her foot down he left, then our server, Debbie, to leave our food behind to confront her! And then after she was finished when our food arrived it was cold, and undercooked. When we asked for our food to be sent back the waitress blew us off electing to head back to the kitchen pulling out her phone. it took the hailing of another waitress, Lulu to finally get out bill. I gotta give this place a 1 star because I hate when food has been frozen and reheated. Their rice was frozen and reheated. The server was very friendly to us she did an awesome job. The food came out fairly quick but the people in another booth waited over an hour and finally left. The ladies sitting next to us got her soup but never got her meal. Finally a quality non-fast food place to eat near Vail. The Chile Verde is absolutely delicious. The re-fried beans that came with my meal were also very good. My wife ordered their Fajitas. Great food, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, highly recommend. Been there for lunch and dinner and will continue as we completely enjoy this restaurant. The guacamole, chips and salsa are each the best we've had here in Tucson. We've been able to order enchiladas the way we like them and the chorizo dishes are to die for and my favorite as I turn the left overs from this meal into breakfast the next day. I've had some good luck dining here and being gluten free. It helps to talk to the manager, as he is knowledgeable. Sometimes the wait staff doesn't understand. After a long day of helping a friend move my husband and I ate here and had a great meal. The portions are decent and the food is delicious. We'd driven by this place several times since moving to the area, and it was always packed. We'd heard it was "ok but a little expensive", so my son and I decided to decide for ourselves on a Thursday night. The place was pretty full for a weeknight, but we were seated promptly and chips and salsa came out immediately. Chips were clearly homemade and delicious. Salsa also clearly homemade and they bring two kinds, mild and medium. The mild had a nice, garlicky flavor and I found myself wishing that one had more heat and the more basic medium was the mild. Menu is pretty standard for mexican food. My son had the kids taco plate and I had the Pollo Fundido. The kids plate was huge, enough to feed an adult and my son said it was "the best taco I've ever had!". The Pollo was high quality shredded chicken breast, no mystery meat here! My only complaint is the small amount of cream cheese sauce and the overwhelming amount of regular cheese. Otherwise, a delicious dinner. Service was attentive but not intrusive, decor interesting and homey. Maybe a little more expensive than some, we paid a total of $24 for two meals and two soft drinks, but when you're one of the few sit down restaurants in the area, you have that luxury. There were 3 other tables aside from us and service was ridiculously slow for no customers. I live in the Rita Ranch area but had never eaten at this establishment until recently. I am picky about Mexican food but had heard good things so I had high expectations. Let me just say, there is nothing worse than anticipating your first bite of a chile relleno, only to be met with disappointment because it is bland and oily. The chimi wasn't as greasy, but also very bland, it was like they forgot to add spices to their food. Food from Rancho Rustico is much better enjoyed as takeout in one's own home, than in the dining room of the restaurant. The chairs are uncomfortable and in close proximity of each other, and the tables are quite small in the restaurant itself. The food however, is pretty good. It does not top the dishes of a few other restaurants in Tucson, but it is definitely tasty! The employees were friendly every time we have ordered take out from Rancho Rustico, or dined in, and the service was very good. The fried ice cream is something that I suggest any visitor to Tucson try, it is absolutely delectable! In conclusion, while it doesn't stand out too much in a town full of Mexican food restaurants, Ranch Rustico is a reasonable and satisfying place to grab a meal. read more

The service is great. Very friendly staff. Most of their food is good but I love burritos & chimi's. The problem is they use terrible flour tortillas. When fried they are chewy not crispy. They just aren't very good, which I don't understand with all the delicious tortillas you can get in south Tucson. I do eat there and enjoy it but don't ever get burritos. Disappointed! We were trying to decide between Luckies Thai or this place. Unfortunately we chose this place since we have never been. We each wanted a salad and after reading them on the menu we were sold. Well both salads were a huge let down. One, when you think salad you think lettuce. That is usually the main ingredient. Not in these salads. There was maybe half a cup shredded lettuce. Lettuce does not cost a lot. For a huge heaping handful, I would say is less than a penny. I know this from owning a restaurant. So that was problem one. Next was the shell. I couldn't tell you how old the shell was. It was so chewy! Almost made me gag. I could barely rip a piece off, it was like rubber. The next problem is the freshness. Well there wasn't any. Not one item was fresh. It is unfortunate that this restaurant doesn't take any pride in the freshness of their food. That is what you do. As a restaurant you serve food, at least care. The chips were old too. Overall there was nothing good about the meal. It was easy to see why it is never busy. This place could be huge because it doesn't really have competition. But instead they crap on that opportunity. We MIGHT give it another shot. The portions are great like many restaurants but there was an argument with the Hispanic staff and An African American customer that did not sit well with me. It was perceived as the Hispanic staff teamed up on the African American. I question the customer service but time will tell. I gave two stars because racism is not good business in any circumstance. Not too bad. Better than nicos anyway. Stay away from the chile relleno the dough was very thick and soggy plus a pool of oil poured out when I cut into it.
