First off our waitress Nancy was wonderful. She walked to the table with a smile on her face. She was attentive and helpful as this was our first time there. Food was good. Salsa was good, chunky and a little warm but good. Chips a little thick for my liking as were all the items with corn tortillas, but all still had a good taste. Did not like the sour cream chicken enchilada at all. DH got fajita's and they were very good the beef was tender and the chicken and beef both had a good flavor. Guacamole was also good and there are a lot of places in Irving that it is not. Both DH and I not a fan of the rice. Will put this in our rotation. I read some reviews on here, but wasn't certain what we were going to find when we went here on a Wednesday night. First you must be aware that every Wednesday an Elvis tribute artist named David Allen performs here. As odd as that sounds (Elvis and Mexican food) it works. The guy is a very, very good entertainer with a great voice that sounds just like Elvis, so forget the stereotypes. The other is that the food is good, Tex Mex: red sauce, beef an tortillas. Great authentic mexican food! Prices are good and portions huge. Very large dining area, great for family and kids. Has live entertainment some nights such as an Elvis impersonator. Staff if very nice but can be a little in-attentive however, if you need something just let them know! The bar area is well-stocked. El Rancho is one of the worst places i have been too. There food use to be good at one time but now its seems like they dont even try anymore. There food is dry and sometimes un-cooked. The last time a was at El Rancho I had to wait almost and hour to get my food and I had only ordered 2 flautas with rice and beans, and it wasent even done right, i dint even finish it. Also one thing that got on my nervous was their waitresses were very rude, they asked for my order by asking 'what do you want girl" WOW what kind of service. This is some of the best Mexican food I have had, and I love Mexican food. They always have a daily special, that comes with an enchilada, or taco, or something along those lines, with rice and beans for $6.99, well worth it. I like there quesadillas, cooked with either steak or chicken, either is good. The beans or very well done, black, or refried and I think you can get pinto. The fruit margarita was large and yummy! I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chips and salsa was off the chain! I over indulged. The chips weren't hot, although I wish they were. I had the carne asada and it was well seasoned. HOWEVER, that steak was as tough as a gangbanger straight outta Compton!! The prices on the menu dont always match what they charge on the receipt. I had heard this from some friends before but figured they had just changed prices and hadn't yet updated the menus but this was month ago. so we had lunch here about 4 days ago and it was the same thing. when we went to pay we asked about it and they didnt tey to find any solution. the girl at the front had to call the owner over and she said she couldn't and wouldn't do anything about it. it was a difference of about $3 but I work hard for my money and it could be $3 per ticket but if they have 100 tickets a day then it adds up for them. they have good portions of food and it tastes decent but I wont go back. plus the lighting is terrible. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE. We try to eat at small/local places... and I've been to this restaurant a few times, but only got to eat there once. Due to the service. The hours on the door and Google states that they are open until 11:00pm. We showed up at 7:45pm. Didn't get menus until almost 8:00, then instead of greeting us, the waitress says "we'll be closing in about 30-45 minutes" we stated that the door says until 11:00, and she shrugged her shoulders and walked away. For an appetizer, we got some sort of combo platter. I had the Grande Burrito. It is huge! I ordered sour cream with it. It is only 3.95 and it could've easily fed my husband and I. A delicious family owned/run authentic mexican (not tex-mex) restaurant. I frequent this place at least twice a week if i'm being honest. By far the best chips & salsa in my humble opinion, and the queso is good as well. You can't go wrong with any of the tacos, or enchiladas but my favorite dish here is the bistec ranchero. They also carry a variety of beers and liquors but the majority of customers get the michelada. If you ever find yourself in the south part of Irving you would be doing yourself a disservice by not stopping here for a bite to eat. read more

I had come to order dinner and take home tonight. I have not been in for a long time. The only thing that stops me is their service, the food is great. I ordered, paid and waited about 20 minutes. I have not seen any food coming out. I was told, by the unfriendly soul that took my order, 10 minutes. I questioned the amount of time it was taking, normally about 20 minutes, and waited another 5-6 minutes. I then insisted she go check on it. I witnessed her going to the back and brought food out for someone else. I asked another server who I could talk to to get a refund. I was simply told "yes." I waited and saw her come out with drinks for another patron. I then went to a THIRD person, Veronica. This young lady is the ONLY reason I am not giving them a one star. Long and short Veronica took charge, got my food out within 3-4 minutes and sent me packing with a full refund. Kudos to this young lady, the other two should take notes. read more
